This is a great comment as Negraneauxeau might be the only poker personality more nauseating than Polk. Seriously, I love Doug's videos but his interaction with anyone else is so horrifically "holier than thou" I can't even get through 20 minutes of this interview without having to take breaks. WTF, Polk? Is it a situation where Polk can only be socially normal when hammered or what? Good grief.

At around 36:00 Polk speaks about the beauty of doing this publicly on camera. Well, how else could he have cheat otherwise? It was only due to the card reader and Postle's access to either the live feed to his phone or the audio receiver in his hat.
As to the why; aside from the profit split 2 with Stone, the publicity would have garnered a larger viewership thus adding to the exposure and traffic to the facility and Postle profiting further from other revenue streams - books and shows.

But HEARING him express himself now leaves me no doubt that this articulate, thoughtful man is more than an intellectual match for his detractors. His poker style may well lead him to some spectacular losses, but I now suspect these derive NOT from basic errors, but from an analysis not even considered by his critics.

Playing devils advocate! Which doesn’t need to happen in this scenario. What is the “postability”,this guy just had 18 months of sick reads with any number of non cheating strategies. I will tell you this. It only happened 1 time over about 1000 sessions I’ve played live in my life time about 13 years of playing. I played on my birthday! I took a .8 of straight molly. Excellent quality molly from Belgium as a gift from my friends for my b day. I played at Foxwoods. I built a 5,000 ish stack in about 8 hours at 2/5. I wasn’t playing a bad strategy or bad pre flop ranges. I was able to see things I had never seen before because of the drugs. Honestly. I was seeing sweat in spots where ppl were bluffing huge. I was seeing neck throbs which still need to be interpreted. I was betting small and check raising huge. I couldn’t be beat for 8 hours. HOWEVER I started coming down, way down. Sweating on the rails! Having trouble focusing as well. I could then hear the whole room better than I could hear my table. Which was the complete opposite effect I was having over the first 8 hours. My friends were trying to get me to come party but when they saw what was happening they didn’t want to interrupt this Bday heated. Longer story short I have gave back most of it and cashed up up 2,300. Is there any chance he was using drugs or micro dosing perfectly. Because I can tell you, pure mdma if you can handle it at the table. Can create amazing recognization of peoples emotions and fake emotions. Hence why I was making perfect plays for about 7 to 7.5 hours. Obviously I should have left b4 I did. So much so that a gentleman who was writing a book asked me for an interview once I told him what was up he no longer wanted the interview! I was speaking to him like
Poker comes in waves and you have to ride the waves lol. This is a 100% true story

Software Developer here, the problem is fairly simple to solve. You encrypt the RFID data and set a timer of say, 5 minutes. Then have the first stream on a 5 minute delay as well. The data will only be unencrypted after the 5 minutes and applied to the video then. Then after 25 more minutes it's send to the commentators. No one at all would see the cards then for 5 minutes. Not even the engineers.

How many atoms in the universe? The best guesstimate is a good illustration of the extraordinary increases in value that are not so apparent when comparing numbers expressed to the power of 10. So average human cell has about 10 to the 14th atoms. The ENTIRE universe? Low estimate is 10 to the power of...78! Raising the exponent from 14 to 78 and we go from atoms in one cell to everything. Wow.

It strikes me what strong witnesses poker players will make for Mac in the unlikely event this case goes to trial. I'm sure they've thought of this already, but on the off chance they haven't, I think Mac ought to play this angle up in terms of trying to push for a favorable pre-trial settlement. Crossing a witness like Matt Berkey must be the opposing counsel's literal worst nightmare.

He then went into the commentators booth and asked the commentators “what happened with that PLO hand where there were only two cards picked up”. How would he know the gfx only showed two cards unless it was after 30 minutes had passed. It could have been more than 30 minutes, but we didn’t get info on the amount of time that passed when that hand ended and when he went into the booth.

On the RFID thing. If the cards actually did use RFID, then basically any half decent cell phone could read the cards. Granted the range would be short, maybe 6" tops. But you can buy after market dongles and make that range turn into 6'. Have it in your sleeve, have feedback system to phone/head thing.

My solution is simple. Have a hole-hand reader (RFID or one-way glass) that all folded cards are read. When a card is in play, no one can see the player’s hole card except the player. But once a player folds, it must pass through this reader for registration and delayed analysis.

  • @1650dunbar

I played in a high stakes Nor Cal game @15 years ago - a dealer played in the game and always sat in the 2 seat. When he drew to a flush a straight or a tiny set he always hit. That means he folded the flop when he knew he would miss. The dealer can flash the 2 seat the turn a river when he drags the chips to the middle of the table, rolling the deck, his thumb on the corner of the deck. I thought something was up when he always sat out on a left handed dealer. I started watching more closely and saw it w my own eyes and stopped playing in the game. If you know the turn and river card and are drawing to the nuts you don’t have to care what your opponents hole cards are. Anyways interesting apostle like the 2 seat.

Same here, just a little less time. You forgot one important thing: Someone only cracks if they're being pressured. Don't forget this is in CA and they have the most corrupt and incompetent system in the country outside of the federal system. I don't see this ever being criminally investigated. Not only because they just don't give a damn in this jurisdiction, but also because if they did they could easily be bribed to look the other way. The damn CA gaming commission (the very agency that's supposed to investigate and prosecute crimes such as this) refused to even acknowledge the situation and interview a few people. They said to call the DoJ. Really?! This isn't a federal issue, it is a state issue. Why exactly would the DoJ be investigating a cheating scandal at a local casino regulated by CA law? Outside of the civil suit nothing will ever come of this.

Likelihood of not cheating even estimated at 1 in a million is a major underestimate in my opinion. Compare just 100 hands of consecutive perfect river play to flipping a coin 100 times and correctly calling heads 100 consecutive times. What are the odds? Then also consider that many might believe that the correct river decision maybe less than 50% each time given the circumstances of play in each hand. Then factor in that "value" or ideal bet sizing was also seemingly accomplished with exactness. The true odds of not cheating is in the the astronomically rare range...ie number of atoms, grains of sand, identical snowflakes. etc etc
