I'm studying for my final exam on Anthropology of Religion at KU Leuven's Faculty of Social Sciences, and your video has helped me A LOT. Thank you for this!

(However, I'm not really sure why you're defining people suffering from racism and so as "marginalised" and "living on the margins of society". I mean, most people in the world have a hard life; most people suffer from racism and other types of discrimination, and, for example, less than 10% of the world live in Europe -if you wanna call those people "the non-marginalised"? or what "society is"?-. So, at the end, the "priviledged people" are the ones living on the margins of society, not the other 90%. I feel kinda offended by you defining your white European context as "society" and every other thing as "living on the margins of society"; too Eurocentric to be true. I really liked the theoretical part of your video and I found it really helpful, though.)

Hi Juan, when I'm referring to marginalisation, I'm discussing it within the context of European societies. Generally speaking, ethnic minorities in Europe are marginalised i.e. they lack the rights, opportunities and power of other social groups. I can't find the part of the video where I'm referring to Europe 'as society'.
I see what you mean by saying Europeans are the minority in global society.
Thanks for supporting the channnel :)

Good day sir, thank you for the video
May I ask in today's intellectual context, might durkhiem's or Karl marx's view of religion be closer to that of how Machiavelli viewed religion
I would be inclined to think that the social solidarity function makes Machiavelli and durkhiem concept closer, in today's context

Interesting. I see the link you're making. It seems Machiavelli recognised that religion is a ruling class ideology that can be used to control the masses and bind a nation together. I wasn't aware of Machiavelli's view till now. It seems like he was ahead of his time.

Sir, would like to ask if Karl marx's theory of state opression or social conflict is applicable today
If so, might you be so kind as to give some examples

After using Durkheim and Malinowski to establish their views what would be an interesting way to incorporate them into an essay about function of religion

You could consider how applicable their ideas are to moderns societies. Religion still seems to perform some psychological functions e.g. a significant proportion of UK funerals are still religious. Durkheim was concerned that the decline of religion would lead to excessive individualisation and anomie in modern societies. Some sociologists would argue he is right e.g. anomie has been linked to depression. Then evaluate whether religion really performs positive functions for individuals e.g. religion often seems deny the rights of marginalised groups, even if benefits society as whole. You could also bring Bellah's concept of civil religion into an essay.
