I would never by a John deer mower to cut grass. Bad choice. Commercial z turns are the only way to go.

Bad Boy makes a tough mower. Made in Arkansas, they cut rocks with it.

Nah you don't need a zero turn, unless your yard has several obstacles. My Cub Cadet went 17 years before I started having issues. It cut my 1/3 acre trouble free for years. It came with an 18hp Kohler.
