- When it`s my turn to do a drum solo in my Ken Loomer Jazz Trio, I want it to be dynamic and exciting. I`m using my 1968 Slingerland vintage small jazz kit with the 14x20 bass drum, 8x12 tom, 14x14 floor tom, and the 5.5x14 inch Slingerland Artist model snare. In this type of an open drum solo, very important to have excellent hand technique so that your idea`s on what to play will be clearly heard. During this solo, I did a lot of just snare drum playing. Using all types of accents on the snare to give the sense of a fast swing feel. I never over look my cymbal playing which is so important to me. The people will let me know in real time how my performance was. So great to do these live concerts with my outstanding jazz musicians.
After watching this i am now ready for drum lessons , great Technique and the sounds of church bells that was cool .
A must is taking drum lessons so your teacher can help you with your drum technique needed to be good. Then of course playing with live musicians so you will know if you have what it takes to make the music feel good, and that musicians want you as a drummer. Doing live performance is so wonderful because the people will tell you in real time if they enjoyed what you played. Just so great to see a standing ovation. Thanks Albert for your comment and best of luck to you with your drumming.
GREAT playing and amazing drums!

AWESOME, and a sweet kit!
I enjoy playing on these classic 1968 Slingerland jazz kit. Great sound for the type of jazz I play with the trio. Thanks for your comment.
Great sounding as usual, Ken, have you ever played in other genres, like blues, rock, etc?
In my early days as a drummer, I have played in many rock bands. I also have played in all latin bands, done work for the Florida Symphony, did broadway shows in New York and of course worked as a studio drummer.

Nice, do you play any other percussion instruments?
@@jasonpp1973 When I was in the latin band, I played the timbales. Of course with the symphony I played the timpani.
3:16 cymbal starts
I love the sound of the cymbals. Got to play them always by them self in my solo.
