    Questo era Giuseppe Di Stefano pieno d'umanità, in nome di quel suo rapporto unico, elettrizzante pronto a tener fede al suo destino di voce, di uomo di teatro che porta su di sè la forza della vita, della morte e dell'amore.

    Year? Sounds like it was recorded before the 60's What a pleasure. Every word couched in that magnificent mezzo voce of his is unforgettable.

    It's difficult for me to accept anyone but Di Stefano as Des Grieux. While the tenor's voice is in much better condition here, he actually sings this aria better on "Portrait of Manon", the recording with Anna Moffo. I suppose it's a matter of interpretation, tempo--something. All I know is I prefer his later version even though Pippo's top notes had gotten pretty stentorian by then.
