  • This is a how to video. This video will show you how to clean your Mass Air Flow Sensor and throttle body without going through “learning” or “re-learning”. Here are the cleaners I used on this video:
CRC 05110 Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner: amzn.to/2YDoTEU
CRC 05078 Throttle Body and Air-Intake Cleaner: amzn.to/2LFTCNZ
The car in this video is an Infiniti QX80. This is how you clean the MAF Sensor and the Throttle Body on an Infiniti QX80. he first part of this video: We took the car for a drive or spin. The car hesitated a few times and a sure symptom of a dirty mass air flow sensor and a dirty throttle body.
This procedure applies to many FULL size Nissan like Armada - Titan and other Infiniti vehicles
It is best to do this maintenance on a cool engine. Let your car sit for a while 30 to 45 min at least. Best to wait 2 to 3 hours before starting on this project if you can.
Start with removing the Mass Air Flow Sensor aka MAF Sensor. Spray it - clean it to your heart’s content. *Important! Let it dry for 20 minutes or more. The longer the better. 2 hours have elapsed when I did mine (ate lunch and did throttle body job).
Work on your Throttle Body next (while you wait for your MAF Sensor to dry).
*Reminder: Cool Engine only. Spray the CRC Cleaner until clean or to your heart’s content. Then... LET IT DRY!
Then wait a good amount of time 45 minutes or longer before turning your car on.
I would consider this how to a “low risk” as I did not disassemble the throttle body and did everything to avoid the learning process. Having said that, for all of my DIY video, use at your own risk… insert disclaimer here. Make sure you know what you are doing.
I made this video for entertainment purposes only... ok with the intent to help people who likes to save money, take risks, or for those who cannot afford to take their car to a dealership.
    **See warnings below!
If you are looking for a video that includes re-learning, relearning or learning… this is NOT it.
A few words of caution! WARNING!
    1. DO NOT use any other cleaner! Brake Cleaner, Carburetor Cleaner, Spirits, Alcohol, and other MAY damage your car or expensive auto parts!
    2. DO NOT Touch the Throttle Plate aka Butterfly! You will need to go through the headache of “RE-LEARNING”!
    3. Sure, you can touch the butterfly or disassemble the throttle body even more and give it a more thorough cleaning (the other side - internal side of the butterfly)… BUT… do you really want to go through learning?
    4. Learning, if you are lucky… you just need to do a few steps and time (time duration of learning may take as short as 30 min, 24 hours, or a couple of days)…
    5. Learning, if you draw the short stick… your car will not run properly. You will need to go to a dealership to get your car running smoothly again.
    6. Better... if you turn off power on all accessories using power (AC, heater, radio, etc...)
    7. DO NOT TURN engine. put the car on Accessories mode aka ACC mode only.
    8. Half a can? lol... checking if you are paying attention. Read the back of the can for directions. RTFM!
Press the gas pedal and see if the butterfly opens and closes. Best to have WOT when using damp rag (with TB cleaner). This Infiniti QX80's throttle plate does not open when pressing the gas pedal. This car's butterfly only opens by turning acc on and off.
Good luck with your project! I wish you success and I hope this video (and tips in it) helps you out.
Tools used: 10mm socket and flat head screwdriver
Car status: During the unplugging of the mass sensor= battery connected and car is off.
Car status: cleaning the throttle body= battery is connected but car is on acc it accessories mode (engine not running).

I've had my G37 for over 8 years now and have left the throttle body connected cleaning all inside and outside with a rag and have never had a issue with rpms afterwards. Going to do the same on my QX80 today. Just thought I stopped by and see if people still worry about that on this platform. At the end of the day it's another VQ so I'm going to do the same

I noticed that you did not scrub the inside where the black residue is built up. I have been doing this same procedure on my Land Rover Lr3 and now my QX80. As long as you dont open the throttle Body plate completely, you will be fine. Also ,I used a new wire brush to scrub the residue, then wipe clean with a rag. Never had a issue. Good luck!

I cleaned mine like this...exactly like this... and damaged the Sensors. Gently sprayed them and it was enough spray force to screw them up. (2018 infiniti q50 $300 each, I have two)Be carefull people doing this method to clean MAS sensors. My mechanic said this is a very risky way to clean them because they are very very sensitive. Just don't spray too close or saturate them with too much cleaner.

Hi I just cleaned the throttle body over the weekend per your video instruction and afterwards on acceleration my RPMs were jumping all over the place. Did the relearn procedure and it seemed to straighten everything out. But still have some hesitation. Wondering if I take off the entire throttle body to clean the other side well and then complete the relearn if that would make a difference? Just wanted to see if you’ve gone this route at some point. Also saw in another video you replaced the Mass Airflow Sensor. Was it acting up after you cleaned it? Thanks!

i think you can turn the key on and hold down the gas pedal all the way, that opens the throttle plate, then clean the throttle plate

Ok. two things...does this work for an Infinit Q40 that has two air filters. Second, do I turn on the car and then spray and cut off after I spray... Can I do this even if I am not having any problems with the car. Do you recommend doing this after I can the filters?

I have a few questions for you regarding the throttle plate 1. If in ACC mode and you step on the gas pedal, does the throttle plate open and stay open? If it does, it would make cleaning all around it a breeze. 2. If I disconnect the battery and wait an hour or so before manually opening the throttle plate will that not be okay? It shouldn't cause any fluctuations in idle afterwards. What are your thoughts on the two ideas?

I’m having the same hesitation that you are describing. But I notice this hesitation at 1300-2000 RPM. It’s as if the rpm needle is floating or being suspended in mid air while going up RPM. Is this the same problem you had before ?

    • @dejanvidovic409
      @dejanvidovic409 4 роки тому +2

Just a quick update on my situation. We ended up having a faulty throttle body. The difference is night and day. The RPM was hesitating really bad at 1300-2000 rpm. It was not a cheap fix as I wanted the OEM throttle body. But it’s fixed, FINALLY.

You have to clean the inside of the plate, all dirt is inside not outside..

    • @MrPatdeeee
      @MrPatdeeee 3 роки тому +1

Amen, amen and AMEN. He needs to remove the Throttle Body and clean the back side of the throttle thoroughly. Most do not do this and it is why the cleaning doesn't last long. Because as you say, "all dirt is inside not outside".
I believe you meant, "MOST all dirt is inside not outside". There is dirt (carbon) on the inside and outside of the flapper, but MOST is on the inside. That is almost impossible to clean thoroughly, if you do not remove the Throttle Body and clean that back (Inside) of the throttle body.
      For what it's worth.

Have you ever personally used isopropyl alcohol or brake cleaner to clean maf sensor or throttle intake. ? I have. Since the 1990’s. It doesn’t damage them, just another product to make money off people . Not trying to be a prick , just the truth .

You can press the accelerator pedal to open the butterfly. You can also get in there with a rag and clean the butterfly as much as you wish, then just fillow the idle "re-learn" process.

Search in you tube infiniti learning or re-learning. There are plenty of videos of that. My title of my video included "without learning"... it is funny for some people as they think "without getting something out of this video"... but once the throttle bidy get touched or repalced in your case... the car system needs to re-learn. Good luck. If you can find what your are looking for doing youtube search... hit me up again. I know I have made notes / manual on how to re-learn. Thank you for watching and question.
