What an excellent model Peter. Too early to confirm, but perhaps this 1/48 B-26B Marauder kit from ICM is a candidate for model of the year. Good clean well detailed plastic without much need for cleanup (the rivet counters will probably beg to differ). This scale is my preferred choice for modelling and I am very tempted to buy one for the future, or would it be best to wait for the “Flak Bait” version in the near future? I do like the way ICM presents its plans in the step by step route. Not too little or too much per construction step. I wonder who produces the colour painting guide for each version. Whoever it is they get a big thumbs up from me. ICM are getting up there with the big guns of model manufacturing with each new model they bring to the hobby market. Thanks for another enjoyable and entertaining review Peter. Keep wearing the vinyl gloves as it is part of your trademark for presenting videos. PS Have you seen the new Das Werk 1/35 Vomag with Flak 88mm? It’s a good one!
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Just bought the Vomag with Flak 88mm. A fair few parts (not for the novice modeller) with clear instructions and a special book for the first edition, which gives a history of the real thing and a model review by one of the test model builders. It’s not cheap at around £70 to £80, however the first version to be made in plastic kit form. An interesting and obscure model to make.
Thanks for the in-depth open box review Peter. They left out all the riveting and only included fasteners for the access panels. In my opinion, that's how it should be done on anything 1/48th and smaller. Besides, if you look at any picture of a real B-26, you'll be hard pressed to see a single rivet. At first sight, I thought the cowlings were a bit off, but looking at photos , ICM got them correct. The clear parts look about as nice as any I've ever seen from any manufacturer. I'll replace all the guns and the bomb fins with AM, but I'd likely do that with any kit. Looking forward to receiving my copy. It's on the way!!
I really agree with you about the overdone riveting seen on many kits. Just look at a real airplane, at a realistic distance, and see what rivet detail you see. Most, but not all, aircraft from that era, were flush riveted.😮
Someone once told me that ICM kits had no middle ground, or they were terrible or they were magnificent, but when I see this B 26 I see that it has good quality.
Hi peter been waiting for a long time for this kit and you have done a fantastic review video, I liked the addition of the paint review,i must purchase this set and give them go ,its a pity they didn’t include the neutral grey for the underside ,but i digress thanks again for your video, well done mate.
Mine received this week, very nice kit. A new 1/48 Marauder was overdue already for years. I will order another one. Love the kit. This kit will sell well. Good choice from ICM.
Tanks Peter it’s a lovely kit I think it’s going to be a must have kit for 2024 for me. By the way I love your long reviews the way you go through it all in detail. Is important when you invest time in buying a model. Got the Anson for my birthday another good kit and again your review helped me choose it.
Great review. Been waiting A loonnnngggggg time for a new one of these! Looks like it was worth the wait. I like the ICM paints very much, bought the big box set and they are very pleasant to use. I just wish they would provide a larger bottle of clear. Also looks like we are in for more goodness from ICM next year with a Handley page Hampden in 48th!!!! Hopefully these kits arrive down under before 2025! Only just managed to obtain an Airfix Gannet.
Another great kit from ICM! Thanks for the review Peter. Keep your kit reviews as is please, I’m sure I’m not the only one who enjoys the detailed reviews. Best regards
Good review Peter, it certainly looks like a great kit. FYI the paint set you have shown doesn’t include neutral grey (gray) which is required for the underside of “Ladies Delight “. I’ve checked the instructions on Scalemates and colour U shown on the video at 23:34 is neutral grey.
The B-26 was likewise heavily used in the Pacific; a squadron of Marauders was based at Midway and attacked the Japanese carriers with torpedoes, most of them being shot down with no hits scored. They were a key component of the Southwest Pacific Air Force, with a number of squadrons based in Queensland which conducted low-level strikes in the New Guinea campaign. Like the B-25 they were lethal in the anti-shipping role. Great kit, excellent review as always.
Hi Peter just had an idea this kit would hit the jack pot. 10 out of 10 for the kit and 12 out of 10 to you. It sure does look pretty good. Added to that the paints look very good too. Thanks again Dean.
Tricycle landing gear is considerably easier to handle than conventional tailwheel type landing gear. The issue they had was due to the nose gear being a bit on the weak side, leading to collapsing on the runway, especially on hard landings.
Will get that one for sure. Monogram‘s 1/48 Marauder is childhood memories 🥲 that was the first kit I somehow glued and painted with a brush when I was a kid
Easy sell this one Peter. I think everybody is looking forward to building this kit. Just ordered mine and I think it will go to the top of my build list when it lands. 👍
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab I’m sure I will, it’s a great subject and the kit looks superb. The only thing that might knock me off course is the imminent arrival of the HK 1/48 Grand Slam Lancaster but it appears to be still on back order with Hannants. So Marauder it is then.
I find it quite astonishing that there are several Ukrainian companies turning out new kits, despite the circumstances. But in my country, the United States, with over 300 million people, no longer has anybody making new military kits. Speaks volumes....
Looks like a good chunk of plastic to have to hide from 'er indoors Peter. Looks very nice, but I'm still holding out for a good 1/48th Wimpey. The price point seems to be around the £70 mark rather than £50 though. On a side note, I wonder now much their sales of the older completely unrelated (and confusingly re-named from A-26) *Douglas B-26B Invader* of the Korean War will go up now as people order the wrong kit? Not that the older kit looks at all bad. Typical Americans using the same designation for many different things.
Yes, very confusing indeed! Also, I got one thing wrong, it's not £50 but £70 at present so definitely one to be smuggled in the house as contraband! 😱 Next year ICM say they are going to create a 1/48 Hampden! 👍🏻
Great review Peter, I think "Flak-Bait" would have been a great B-26 decal option as it was famous for completing 200+ bombing missions over Germany and the low countries - most of it still survives and is currently undergoing restoration in the U.S.
@@markhill4526 Wouldn't that just be a change in decals? After-market decals are available for "Flak Bait". Sure, it's additional cost but they are available.
Great review, thank you. Just one thing I am a bit disappointed with is the lack of an interior in the radio operator's compartment behind the cockpit, as well as a lack of detail in the rear (closed) bomb bay. I know that these won't be seen (and in the case of the radio operator's area) will leave little room for weight.
Great review. Always encouraged by your enthusiastic demeanor. Check out 1941 short film "Building a bomber". Shows the production of an early Marauder.
Yeah, I watched that film a couple weeks ago. Fascinating for sure. They were building the early B-26A models with the shorter wings and vertical tail fin.

What a great kit, still amazes me how ICM are managing to produce these kits with the aweful situation they find their country in.
