Hey there Big Strappers. Thanks for checking out the upload. How about YOU? What's the scariest thing YOU face as a professional truck driver? Love hearing from you!
17 year 1.25 million accident free miles here. I always felt the day I got rid of any road rage (around year 3) was the day I became a professional. Knowing that everybody else on the road was somebodies mother father son or daughter and that they may have been having a bad moment or a bad day was no reason for me to act like an ass or take a life. Professionalism starts at a young age when your grandmother tells you to turn the cheek when you are bullied or taken advantage of. Practicing restraint and maturity made me an asset and not a liability.
I'm a veteran truck driver over 30 years coast to coast, border to border and lots of Canada. I'm retired now and really don't miss trucking, but their is some stories I could tell about it, but I won't . I just want to tell all of you truckers out their to keep the greasy side down and watch your six. Be safe out there
Yes!!! i am a new driver. i went to tech college for my training, the trucks we drove had " student Driver " on all sides. 4 wheeler's would cut us off , stop short ETC ... really opened my eyes. Keep up the good work.
My new fleet manager graduated high school in 2011. I was chewing him out a couple weeks ago, and I asked him if he remembered the line from the movie, "Help me, help you!" After I left the building, I realized that he was only 4 when Jerry Maguire hit theatres. His job security lies in the fact that they would have to pay an experienced fleet manager two or three times what they pay him.
I loved driving a truck but I am so glad to be retired. I did 25 yrs safe driving and count my blessings that I wasn't taken out by a 4 wheeler. Keep it between the ditches and I'll be praying for all truckers.
You nailed it. I am lucky on the dispatcher part though. My dispatcher actually drives a truck himself so he knows what he's doing and even gives us heads up on road conditions and such.
You are a man after my own heart, straight to the point. Be nice to hear more of you about trucking. I once worked in the states driving trucks all over the country back in 1997. I once worked for pullen Bros. They screwed me good.
My company started sending me out in the company truck a F550 flat bed with loads up to 20k (stone slabs) I know it's way smaller but these videos are teaching me a lot. I've always had and respect big riggs on the road and honestly I'm grateful for these videos.
My Uncle was telling me about the Swift Driver's license fiasco in Tennessee in the late 1990s when the company owned driving school was graduating drivers and the State of Tennessee was granting them CDLs like water. The incident even including the death of a State Driver's Center employee.
I would say 3 things, the whole interstate is dead still bout time you see and luck sent you a way out,in mountains- ice or black ice- on a step down grade @ night,or any uphill on ice spinning to the top, woundering would you slide black down the hill and survive
You're smart to get out Gary, the way things are going these days. Good health and a good marriage is invaluable and not worth losing for any price. And not worth losing for what trucking pays these days for sure! Dave
Dave ! You are perfect for these informative and humorous vids. Thanks for passing on your knowledge, experience and the funny parts too! Truckin has its antics and laughs along with all the other challenges and obstacles. Good job.
I agree about dispatchers "Fleet Managers". I am a dispatcher with over 10 years of experience. I drove for over 10 years prior to dispatching. New dispatchers should have a certain amount of road time before telling other drivers where to go so they understand what it is like out on the road.
Great stuff Dave, you took a serious matter and made informative yet funny. BTW I am going into truck driving because I could not get a job at Walmart, seriously.
I'm with the others on the Swift thing, not all of the drivers there are horrible lol. I did not get my training there but did go to work with them because they were close to my home, I couldn't stand it because every time I went to a truck stop I knew all eyes were on me lmao.
We need you to open your own company, I'd drive for you in a heart beat. I started in this business in 1973,every thing you say is absolutely true.I am 64 and retiring in November, I feel for the honest hard working drivers just trying to make a living in this industry. You are right in saying that the industry has to collapse and be rebuilt in order for it to be fair to every one.
Mel, if you were trucking in the 70's you were lucky enough to see trucking at its best! I was there too. The reefer guys running the coast had beautiful rides everyone was making good money, the fuel was cheap and freight was plentiful. I'd love to see it come back to that again! Dave
Smart-Trucking.com yes that is when we were supplied with clean Lennon , paid a predeium for our meals when we were stuck some place we went on the clock I think it was 8 on and 8 off. But back then you could make a good living driving until deregulation came in killed the industry I was with alltrans express when that happened, and the company started to try to gut the line contract which ended with them going out of business because we would not back down, in the end it didn't help any
So true lol I've been out here hauling aggrates for 43 years 80000 gross every load. I get a kick out of Swift drivers comming around tailgating the car or truck in front of him hauling a load of pillows with every electronic gadget he can fit on his head lol
Good points, I was in Daily City Ca around 2003 at about 3am and stopped at a traffic light. Some Mexican gang banger jumped on my passenger running board and smashed the window out with the butt of a knife. He was screaming Spanish/English profanity at me. I noticed another approaching from the driver side so I dropped the clutch and started grabbing gears. The one on my side jumped on and I'll never forget all the tattoos on his face. Tear drop, three dots.. A bunch of scripted text. I hit high range and he bailed but the guy on the passenger side was half in the cab and slashed me a couple times with is knife. Not deep cuts but enough to send me into panic mode. I made a hard left turn not even sure where the street lead. All the while mashing her to the floor and grabbing gears. I think I was around 40mph when he bailed, I couldn't see well in the dark but I'm pretty sure I ran over his foot with the trailer as he rolled and tumbled... Not sure? I stay intra state now and I pack.
Uh, I take exception to #5, I drive for Swift. But I've had my CDL for a while and have been driving a CMV since 1995. I've been backing trailers all my life. My trainer focused on SAFETY which I take very seriously. I've seen the SWIFT BEST IN CRASH VIDEOS and so far I've witnessed a PRIME DRIVER take the top crash spot. Yeah, I'm a 47 year old rookie, but my skills are better than some of the other seasoned drivers out there. You are dead on about the Four Wheelers and those Soccer Moms. I hate 4 wheelers. You have also hit the NAIL ON THE HEAD about Driver Managers and Driver Leaders, they don't know jack squat. Yes, I've been to too many Subways since going out. Only a few of those girls behind the counter looked worth hitting on, but they are way too young for me. I like my women just a little bit older. OK, now name that tune. I've enjoyed your videos and have been a subscriber for a little while now. Your advice has been valuable to me. I won't hold your swipe against me against you. Besides, I have family in Canada too. I got a good laugh out of this. Keep on trucking. Your SWIFT DRIVER from Texas, Charlie.
Well obviously not all SWIFT drivers are that way, but I started driving in the middle 1960s when trucking was fun and you didn't have all these idiots out screwing with you and yes I've noticed Prime drivers getting a little stupid as well, be careful and smart out there drivers and thanks guys and gals
I was in the restaurant of a T/A the other night. In comes two Swift drivers arguing up a storm. A couple minutes go by and one of them pulls out razor. Fortunately there was no place for him to plug it in near by.
Whew if subway was good eating road food, I'd be keeled over in a ditch puking. I've tried about every sandwich they make ,and without fail about 2 hrs later the heartburn kills me and a whole bottle of rolaids barely works. It's gotta be something common in every sandwich they make. Do they still have the yoga mat bread? Maybe that's it.
Hey Dave, cool channel. Thanks for posting videos. Quick question, is it possible to take action so that you're always safe and not stressed as a trucker, regardless of crazies on the road? Thanks.
Well-Said, Dave! I'm particularly subject to the part about Subway. I drive a regional route for a food distributor in California that supplies Subway, and every week my customers always set me up with whatever I want. Couple of times when I was single instead of a sandwich I did take one of the cute Humboldt State girls back to the motel with me haha. Anywho, thanks for the vids sir, catch you later on down the trail
I lost it laughing at the Subway comment. I'm not even OTR, but being a Regional Expedite driver, and even being home every night, i barely have time to cook it seems before im back on the road and i've been living on Subway . Hilarious.
lol I hate being 18, everyone bashes on people my age, I'm a diesel mechanic, me and 3 other mechanics are in charge of maintaining and repairing 55 semi's and 190 trailers, I drive a brand new f150, any money I have left over I send it to friends and family who need it, I was recently charged with a dui for sleeping in my truck outside my friends house while I was drunk with the keys out of the ignition and 4 feet away from me, so yeah I guess people my age are stupid, but hey were gonna continue living our lives as everyone makes it out to be till the day everyone stops harassing the shit out of us, sure ive done some pretty stupid stuff but I'm also getting my life in line, moved out of the town I was living in, got tired of selling drugs, being addicted and getting in fights all the time, trying to better myself and theres a lot of other teens like me trying to do good but it sucks when we get thrown to the curb like were still little kids
Ah, the growing pains of the late teens. There's a lot of temptations, including loose knit "friends" that can get you off track real easily. I've been there, done that. Being a mechanic at 18 years instead of flipping burgers is an excellent start on what most teenagers have accomplished in life. My recommendation, get all the tech manuals you find and become the best damn diesel mechanic on your team. Trust me, you're not missing out on any of the so-called teenage fun. When you're in your 20s and 30s, building a nest egg with a woman that will stick by your side, you won't miss any of that BS. Having a loving family, vehicle that's paid for, house in your name, and hopefully living debt free... that's the place to be.
all I hangout with is 20 and 30 year olds lmao, I drive a brand new pickup, got my own place, getting by I guess, me and some of the people I consider family decided to get out of drugs, we lost 2 close friends in shootings, after us seeing our best friends die in our arms, it was just kinda the end of that, I still get caught up in some things though, still a lot of close friends that do some bad things and guess whos the one getting dragged in to make sure they don't get hurt...this guy, to some people who never experienced that kinda stuff its hard to believe it actually happens but its reality, people see shit on tv and movies and think its all made up, the same kinda shit happens in reality
I'm a truck driver for a major U.S. hauling company and I love watching your videos because I don't have a problem sitting at the feet of much more experienced drivers to take in some of their wisdom. One major question I have is, how do you deal with numb skull 4 wheelers and maintain your sanity on a daily basis? I see stupid moves everyday and wonder how do the salty dogs handle morons on the road. Please help! Best of wishes for you and yours!!
Man, good question and one of drivings biggest challenges. I almost always ran west and part of that was to avoid that eastern seaboard traffic. The more 4 wheelers the more stress. I ran long because I couldn't deal with fighting traffic on a daily basis. These days, where it seems you're in idiot traffic every day all you can do is drive slow, putter along and hope one of them doesn't hit you. The traffic and idiot 4 wheelers were one of the big reasons I chose to retire. Dave
Went to work for Swift once...Their driver wanted me to use two log books... Then when I quit, they tried to say that I still owed them for learning to drive with them... Had my license before I even went to Swift. But what did I expect when they also said that I would get a "check ride" before the end of their orientation weekend? (Never did get that check ride).
Hahaha this is funny and very true I agree with you and I want to wish you and your family a Mary Christmas and a happy New Year hope you have a good and safe holiday
The only time I was truly concerned was a ghost driver i80 wy during a blizzard. They were driving in 6in of snow on top of ice. I had ice. Passed each other and called high way patrol. Stay safe drivers catch you on the road.
Okay I agreed with the first one, about the four wheelers. I lovingly call them locusts, because all they do is swarm around you. Other than that, I was thinking of things like, losing your brakes going downhill, black ice , Etc, you really took me off guard with your list!, especially about the love at the sandwich shop. LOL😂😂😂
LOL While not a driver, I have family who have been or still are, and I know a few tales of dispatchers finding out that the driver just gets more pissed off the longer he is away!
I understand this was an attempt at humor. But I for one am sick of listening to negative, complaining drivers. Always have some trash to say about new drivers, 4 wheelers or the dispatcher who's ass they want to kick. Maybe the problem is YOU and YOUR ATTITUDE. we all face the same problems out here. Be professional , push your fat belly away from your plate and go for a walk. It will do wonders for how you view the world. And turn off Rush and Sean and CNN, listen to a positive podcast. Stay safe.
Great, more Swift shade. I thought this channel was better than that. Swift is a mega carrier...meaning a HUGE carrier, so of course they have more reported incidents. Swift has been great to me, and mine. Fair pay, great culture, excellent driver support, quality equipment. I'm starting to see that the haters are actually just probably jealous, or else they just like to complain constantly because they are personally unhappy. I am happy, and Swift has a lot to do with that, thank you very much.
You should really add a 6th one. One that comes from inside the cab. Ive been driving for the best part of 7 years and the thing that scares me the most is the isolation. If anything bad happens at home, I got 5 or 6 days alone to stew and over think it.
I know what you mean Dave! LOL. Four wheelers seem to think they are something super if they cut us off. What they don't know is that if they have to slam on the brakes in front of that 80,000 thousand lbs. truck and they had cut us off, it is going to be impossible to stop that truck in that amount of distance! I see it every day and it bothers the crap out of me, especially since I am a future trucker. I say DOT should have a skills check alongside the road for four wheelers, that way it keeps us TRUCKERS safe! God bless!
Your #1 reason was on point sir, great video funny but also very true, last fall a girl in her early 20's was responsible for causing an accident (her 6th accident) on i-5 by Tracy, Ca involving another car & truck, long story short she was charged with vehicular manslaughter chp found evidence she was on her phone, the truck rolled over on shoulder to avoid hitting other vehicles, not sure if the trucker died or someone in the other vehicle.
Back in the late 70s I was running refuse cans to Detroit. I had just got on the 401 at Woodstock when I heard on the radio that the highway was closed. I looked in the mirror and sure enough they closed it just behind me. Smokey got on the CB and asked me if I wanted to back up to the truck stop because it was solid ice all the way to Windsor. I told him that as long as there were no idiots on the road I'd be fine. When I got to my destination they said they expected me to be much later because they heard the highway was closed. I said I could only do forty because of the ice but at least there were no four wheelers to piss me off.
Had 7:32 on my 14 clock. Had to go from Brooklyn Park, MN, to North Mankato, drop and hook, go to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, then back to Aurora, IL, by 8 am the next day and wondered why I could not make it there by 8 am. Do the math...it would have left me with 1:30 to go from Cedar Rapids to Chicago.
I was thinkin' that you could write a great, fascinating, informative book, which could be a Best Seller. But after watching this video, I think you also have a promising career out there as a stand-up comedian! Go for it! ~~:-D
BMW, Audi, and Mercedes crossovers don't come with blinker fluid from what I've heard. They need to get some of the primo stuff that can get 3000 blinks
lol, I'm starting to see, stickers saying lot lizards and Swift do not come with in 100 ft of this rug on both doors. they add Swift cause that was his 3 rd hood. in one year. He said a friend told him to move out of swifts lane areas. now that is scary.
Hey dave, I like your channel, very informative. Im still new at this, 2 years in. Never any accidents, im very careful. Yes soccer moms and fast and furious ones scare me the most, plus crotch rockets. There sucide crazy. I've seen some really crazy stuff happen since I been trucking, both from truckers and 4 wheelers. Just wanted to say hi and thank you for shareing your knowledge you have been a help to me. Oh yeah, dispatchers, I have had exactly what you described. Some fresh out of h.s. kid living with mom thinking he knew what he was doing. Yes very bad things happened to me because of his dumb ass. So you hit the nail on the head with this.
Hey there Big Strappers. Thanks for checking out the upload. How about YOU? What's the scariest thing YOU face as a professional truck driver? Love hearing from you!
You're like the mentor I never had. Thank you for teaching us rookies.
17 year 1.25 million accident free miles here. I always felt the day I got rid of any road rage (around year 3) was the day I became a professional. Good letter, good input! Thank you for writing in!
I always go into deffensive driver mode when I see guys in jacked up pick up trucks. they tend to be the worst drivers on the road.
At least you said "tend" I'll let it slide haha
I'm a veteran truck driver over 30 years coast to coast, border to border and lots of Canada. I'm retired now and really don't miss trucking, but their is some stories I could tell about it, but I won't . I'm scared of angry soccer moms too.
We all are! Dave
pumpkincontest I know I'm absolutely scared sh%+less of soccer moms.
yes i have nightmares about them.
get V how do you get VIP in GTA Online for your bunker
i heard and saw a swift truck grind two gears in a row
I died when he said "the 75yo woman slapping the Pastrami on your sandwich is lookin' pretty good to ya" lmao
You've stayed out to long when your alarm goes off at home and you're puzzled as to what warning alarm is that!
Yes!!! i am a new driver. i went to tech college for my training, the trucks we drove had " student Driver " on all sides. 4 wheeler's would cut us off , stop short ETC ... really opened my eyes. Keep up the good work.
You too! Be careful out there, the road is full of nuts. Dave

Yeah, scary to see what trucking has become. Kids with computers. Dave
It ALL boils down to the $ .............
I loved driving a truck but I am so glad to be retired. I did 25 yrs safe driving and count my blessings that I wasn't taken out by a 4 wheeler. Keep it between the ditches and I'll be praying for all truckers.
Lmao I love that we can hear his wife laughing behind the camera. keep em coming boss
One thing more scary than everything you mentioned. Hauling logs in west Virginia in the winter. If that's not enough, then add all 5 of those things.
Love this guy what he speaks is so true. We're a dying bred
You nailed it. I am lucky on the dispatcher part though. My dispatcher actually drives a truck himself so he knows what he's doing and even gives us heads up on road conditions and such.
Just when you are preparing to hear a calm polite and thoughtful piece of wisdom...some road truth finds it’s way out;))
Great job!!!
Thanks Anton! Dave

The worst thing ever is brake checks
if there's one thing I've learned its don't work for Swift, even if you are a great driver there, everybody will still hate you
the GOOPER it's not hate it's all the broken hoods, and accidents in lots, ditches, and stuff. not hate, fear.
+Benjamin Duke true, I didn't think of that
Schnieder * lol
Or CR England.
the GOOPER used to JB Hunt.
I would say 3 things, the whole interstate is dead still bout time you see and luck sent you a way out,in mountains- ice or black ice- on a step down grade @ night,or any uphill on ice spinning to the top, woundering would you slide black down the hill and survive
So funny but so true!!!
TheCraftyTrucker never drove a big rig, but you drivers have all my respect and then some...
I'm thankfully retired after 30 yrs, 1 Million accident free miles, 1 ticket.
Driving was killing my health and my married life.
You're smart to get out Gary, the way things are going these days. Good health and a good marriage is invaluable and not worth losing for any price. And not worth losing for what trucking pays these days for sure! Dave
I quit driving a year ago. I'll be a certified welder in a couple months. Never looking back.
Good move! Dave
I said that too, 5 years ago. Now it's on my mind ALOT.
Timothy S Fitzgerald what’s on your mind? Leaving? Getting back into it? Welding?
In funny and amusing way, Dave always hits the target. Happy New Year !
Thanks! Happy New Year to you. Dave

I used to fix cash registers... nothing scarier than angry Truckers who can't pay for fuel at a truck stop because the register is broken.
Of all the trucking channels on utube you're tops as far as I'm concerned. Much knowledge and professionalism.
Thanks, you advertise much needed professionalism to the trucking industry.
We need you to open your own company, I'd drive for you in a heart beat. Lol yeah all them idiots got those bluetooth devices. Those are the worst.
R E it's almost impossible for a Swift Driver to tailgate all these big companies have bedix systems in their trucks
Remember what SWIFT stands for
S URE WISHED I'D FINISHED TRAINING right!!
You nailed it. #1 is STILL #1!
Straight up and in your face. You tell it like it is Dave. Thnkx

And it's stories like that, that you realize they're not paying you nearly enough to deliver your load in an area like that! Dave
You've helped me a lot Dave! I appreciate it! I started OTR now I'm doing regional hauling frac sand in the Permian Basin.
hauling frac sand should be a good deal! Enjoy,Dave

Ah Dean, got a laugh out of me there! Thank you!
Lol, truth. Enjoyed your blog as always. Have a Happy New Year
A Happy New Year to you as well! Dave
I noticed this was published on Dec 31. After the thought of the 75 year old lady I think Oct 31 may have been the perfect day! Timing is everything!
Whew if subway was good eating road food, I'd be keeled over in a ditch puking.

Hey Dave, cool channel. Thanks for posting videos. Quick question, is it possible to take action so that you're always safe and not stressed as a trucker, regardless of crazies on the road? Thanks.
Very good video I started in trucking in 1969 and man could I tell some stories just like we all can
I had some good times and I bet you did too, Ray. Thanks for writing in! Dave
I love this guy!!!!......25 yrs as a trucker so I know he tells the truth......4 wheelers will get you killed if you dont pay attention.
Now that's Good Stuff !!
The one thing that grates my nerves is the "Yellow Light", then bums on bikes/e-bikes and all else you mentioned.
Holy shit this is so FUNNY 😂 I literally laughed so loud I think I woke the good buddy sleeping in his truck next to me
You're a legend Dave 👍
Only in my own mind, and not even then! Dave
Funny and true. Thumbs up.
Thanks! Dave

lol I hate being 18, everyone bashes on people my age, I'm a diesel mechanic, me and 3 other mechanics are in charge of maintaining and repairing 55 semi's and 190 trailers, I drive a brand new f150, any money I have left over I send it to friends and family who need it, I was recently charged with a dui for sleeping in my truck outside my friends house while I was drunk with the keys out of the ignition and 4 feet away from me, so yeah I guess people my age are stupid, but hey were gonna continue living our lives as everyone makes it out to be till the day everyone stops harassing the shit out of us, sure ive done some pretty stupid stuff but I'm also getting my life in line, moved out of the town I was living in, got tired of selling drugs, being addicted and getting in fights all the time, trying to better myself and theres a lot of other teens like me trying to do good but it sucks when we get thrown to the curb like were still little kids
Dave
I currently run freight and this shit is SO on point!!!
The 75 year old slapping your salami!!! I’m dying!!!😂😂😂
104 Swift drivers gave this a thumbs down.
You're the MAN...‼️🚛🚒
I really like your very helpful videos... thanks 👍😃
Too true, too funny! Great video. Happy New Year and go safe!
You too! Dave
I drive for swift & #5 was still funny af 😂
Two swift trucks trying to pass one another. Thinking the other swift guy has a heavier load going uphill.
hey, i used to drive for Swift, i am also military, i USE MY MIRRORS and i care about my company truck.
Terry Tackett the best majority swift drivers suck
banshee2014 swift is a place where you learn right from wrong.God bless Swift for a training ground type company as long as nobody gets killed.
Terry Tackett I drive for swift also always use my mirrors and goal.
I doubt you drive at all.
Im watching this after ordering a footlong from Subway
man I like your videos you have a good sense of humor
Thank you sir! Dave
Hahaha this is funny and very true I agree with you and I want to wish you and your family a Mary Christmas and a happy New Year hope you have a good and safe holiday
Same to you Kevin! Thanks! Dave
Buffets are fine dining when I’m on the road lol
Thank you for saying a truth.
And yes honey, I have moved freight in your country.
January and February is around the corner.
Before a passport.
The only time I was truly concerned was a ghost driver i80 wy during a blizzard. They were driving in 6in of snow on top of ice. I had ice. Passed each other and called high way patrol.
Stay safe drivers catch you on the road.
This guy always saying the truth about this industry 👌🇲🇽/🇺🇸
Mirrors?...We don't need no stinkin' mirrors...(apologies to The Treasure of the Sierra Madre...:) )
That is very accurate .... lol Billy Big Rigger lol
Truth be told my man!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I understand this was an attempt at humor.
The subway sandwiches! You can hear the camera guy trying to hold his laughter! Hahaha
God bless!
LMAO at Swift. Around my area it's also McLeod you need to look out for .
Goin down the mountain.
(Not up)
& Yes, the 4-wheels, YES.
Let's get that big ol PETE in outta the snow.that's scary.
I hate it when 4 wheelers hang ten in your mirror giving you doubts about changing lanes and the lack of communication they are blissfully unaware of.
thank you for the information sir that was very informative!
Thank you! Dave
couldn't get a job sweepin at Walmart ". . . Chew on dat!" ❤love it
That's the real talk but the truth hurts well done, Old school you better watch out for anger soccer ⚽️ moms lol 😂
I hear that. Dave
The worst is the driver managers, they dont know nothing about anything..frustrating when you try to make some miles..
I watched a swift driver attempt to cross a muddy median just to skip traffic and get stuck lol
Just business as usual for Swift! Dave
lol, I'm starting to see, stickers saying lot lizards and Swift do not come with in 100 ft of this rug on both doors. they add Swift cause that was his 3 rd hood. in one year.
Thanks Jason, drive safe! Dave
