This Bass once appeared on the market in 1976 was actually developed then by King Leo Fender & Sir. "Slap & Pop Thunder Thumb" Louis Johnson, as far as the one and only Bernard Edwards who's unique fingerstyle bass playing funked up the entire planet with countless grooves!
Cool video with precise infos. But at 3:03, it may be useful to say that the Classic Stingray and the 70 Retro Stingray are two different models. You can have two models with a 70s old school look (coated neck, headstock logo, bridge with mutes) : - Classic Stingrays made in early 2010 which blends modern features (6 bolts, modern trussrod) with 1970 specs (slab body, thin frets, 7,5’’ radius). There is also the Old smoothie (larger pickup) which is a limited edition. - Retro 70 Stingrays (with 3 bolts, bullet trussrod, more accurate logo) made in 2023. The 76 reissue is actually a Retro 70 limited edition. I hope it helps.
Very cool review! You do a great job of going through the features and the different tones. These are great basses, I’ve got a 77 one and end up using it on all the recordings I do purely because it records so well. They’re really heavy compared to more modern basses and it’s heavier than my Jazz bass but the sound is worth it!
Nice! Glad you liked it and that you’ve got one. Definitely a classy instrument. I do love lighter instruments for playing live, but for that tone, totally worth it!
Waiting for mine next week... Wait for it for almost 1 year ! :-) Can't wait. I have an Old Smoothie 2016 also. I will put the Hipshot BT-1 drop D tuner also because I use it a lot.
Nice! I hadn’t heard of OLP, good thing Talkbass is a thing. I have a deep appreciation for the folks that can take a cheap bass and turn it into something way better with some ingenuity!
It is! Those are all bass grooves that I've published on my channel. I thought about putting links to them, but then I got lazy. Maybe I'll go through and do that today.

Thanks for the info! Good stuff to know
And the background music is fantastic
Gotta keep using those grooves, right?!
Its THE bass, its THE look :) Have 3 MM`s, love them!
3? Wow. Found the bass you love then.
Love it! Awesome, thorough, honest review with some fun history, well done👏🏻
Thank you kindly! Such a fine instrument deserved a thorough review.
Great review. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks!

Nice! That’s a long time to wait though. Hope it makes it all that much more sweet.
Cool!
Thank you!
and here comes the Sire Z3s and Z7s 😁
The resemblance is uncanny.
It sounds exactly like the OLP I modded with a custom made alnico pickup wound to 4.5K and a Stingray preamp I built myself

@@TrevorWatsonBass The bass cost $80 from craigslist, pickup was $100 and preamp parts total was $12. Thats a whole less than $4,000 lol
@@Steve-mp7by very nice indeed! That is some pretty amazing cost savings. And I’m sure it sounds amazing!
@@TrevorWatsonBass I have to admit the sound is surreal and have been told also. When I play it its like a celebration of tone
Unfortunately, delivery to me is postponed at the end of this month... Normally I should have the bass at home for september the 28th ! 😞
That's quite a wait! Hopefully it turns out to be worth it.
Woah, I know you!
How do we know each other?
@@TrevorWatsonBass This is Alex Vincent from BYU. Loved seeing this pop up!!
@@mightymangalore Oh hey man! Long time since I've seen ya! We should catch up sometime!
@@TrevorWatsonBass super down!!
Imagine hearing this bass for the first time in 1976, there was absolutely nothing like it. Come to think of it, there still isn't.
That would have been something, indeed!
Is all the background music original? I assume it is...

For that price you can find some late 78s and 79s
They definitely are pricey, for sure.
