It is not about the guitar, it's the player, Tomo shows this every day. what a lovely way to start the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Mr Fujita for this review, and your playing of course. It is a real blessing.
Glad you enjoy it!
The Sterling looks and sounds way above that price point. The sound is likely all in Tomo's fingers but it shows the guitar has potential.
He is also using one of the best amps ever for that tone. But I agree with you that the Sterling Cutlas would "hold back" very few musicians.
Great sounding guitar!
EXACTLY
Got to play one yesterday for the first time. Amazing amazing amazing guitar.
And how exactly do you hang a price on something subjective.
What you just said was that this gutar is underpriced based on what you heard .
It has a bottom adjusted truss rod, locking tuners and a roasted maple neck for $500.What a great time to be a guitar buyer.15 years ago this guitar would be easily $1500.
Your mix of blues, funk and jazz (three children of the same mother) is really nice. Arigato Fujita-san!
Thank you!
Really liked the tones from the neck pickup. Adding the middle pickup gave it a bit of a nasal intonation. Really nice tones when you make it sing. Thank you Fujita-san!
Thanks for sharing!
tomo, i'm gearing up to transfer to a university (almost done with my associates degree), but i've been absolutely enthralled by you and your playing over the last few years! i haven't felt this way about a guitarist since i first heard joe pass when i was 14. I hope to god that i can study with you once i transfer to berklee !!!!
So awesome! Thanks so much! Hope to see you at Berklee!
I love that jazzy walking bass thing! Great playing as always and simple enough advises.
Thank you!
Much love from New Mexico Tomo. Hope all is well. I just got a squire 60s classic vibe and its amazing. Love your channel.
Awesome! Thank you!
I just love the little jazz runs you do. You get so many cool sounding notes just out of one small area of the neck it’s mind blowing.
That's so great to hear that. What kind of jazz run do I do? Maybe I can turn it into as new lesson...
@@TomoFujitaMusic I’m not sure but it is when you hang out in the G B and E strings. You will stay within a space of like 4 frets but you got so many colors ( tasty notes ) coming out I just know it is jazz. You get so much done without hardly moving it’s like a roller coaster. It’s truly fascinating to watch.
@@TomoFujitaMusic I’m sure it is arpeggios all linked with simplified triads or something in that nature but it is absolutely fantastic just to watch you do it. It leaves me truly scratching my head thinking this dude is super bad ass.
@@anthonyjohnson4734 Okay! That's jazz M3 5 b7 b9 run like Charlie Parker.... sprit is same as a minor pentatonic! Very easy to play! Thanks so much! Let's call " A Roller Coster Scale "
@@TomoFujitaMusic I also know it was years of practice and ear training because you know where you are going and what expect. You do it in the grooves that sound like the song JUST A GIGOLO.
I'm always inspired by you and your playing. Thank you!
Thank you!
I really like the sharp snappy tone of this guitar, one day hopefully I can own this guitar
Thanks!
Thank you Tomo for your excellent demo. Because of your demo I have finally decided that this will be my next electric guitar purchase. I have been looking for an affordable strat-style electric guitar and was not really sure which one to get.
Great to hear!
The best kinds of guitars are certainly the cheap, yet very effective in quality! Thanks for the showcase.
You're welcome!
@@TomoFujitaMusic Cheers!
I love the way you play. Normally youtubers who review guitars do demos that sound awful to me so I can't really tell what it'd sound like for something I'd like to try playing.
With you though, you play exactly what I like!
So happy to hear that. Thanks so much!
@@TomoFujitaMusic I bought the CT30hss on Sunday and it supposed to arrive on thursday. I hope it’s close to being as good as the ct50
That's beautiful , sensei ! I love that guitar
Thank you very much!
Great playing as always. Love the roasted maple neck on that new Cutlass. My favorite strat for practice is a cheap 3 color sunburst 2012 model Squier SE I got from Goodwill for $117 shipped. Barely weighs 7 pounds. Came from the factory with a AA flame maple neck! Soldered in new cts pots with push back wire, .033µF orange drop tone cap, orange drop treble bleed .001µF w/ 150 kΩ Metal Film Resistor, crl switch, switchcraft jack and clearance GFS sss pickups. New Fender tort pickguard, cream pup covers and knobs and hipshot locking tuners. Needed a few high frets lowered, crowned and polished all frets, put some conditioner on the rosewood fretboard and set it up. All in cost $314. Freaking thing is a tone monster. I on the other hand am a permanent beginner guitarist lol.
Thanks for sharing!
I bought a squier classic vibe and invested some money in the pickups and it’s a great guitar. Great video!
Awesome! Thanks!
I just love listening to you play the walking bass line!
Thank you!
I just bought the HSS Cutlass version in excellent condition for 300 dollars (great deal in my opinion). In my opinion it plays better than my Fender Deluxe Strat.
Awesome!!
I’m sold. I watched your previous unboxing video and then did my homework online, and I need a 3 single coil S type, so I believe this is the one! So far good for sure! This guitar is a beauty, sounds really good (especially in a master’s hands😊), and has way more going on for it than just $499. I’m also a sucker for that shade of blue! Locking tuners, roasted neck, cool headstock design.....what’s not to like?
Update an hour later after creating comment: just purchased this guitar and hopefully soon it will be in my home making happy music!
Awesome! Thank you!
That cutlass sounds amazing and looks awesome 🔥🔥
Thanks!
To be honest, I didn't expect you to play lovely chord progressions right after the video begins
Well thought or coincidence?
Yeah that was wonderful 🙌
Does anyone have the chords for that progression? It sounds sublime.
Sounds like
Emaj9, G#7b13, C#min7, Bmin9, E7, Amaj7, F#/G#, G13, F#min7, B11
Sounding great Tomo! I love music man guitars. I was leaning towards a mm cutlass, but I ended up with the mm Albert Lee sss. I absolutely love it better than any strat I’ve ever played too. Wish I’d had it 20 years ago lol
Thanks for sharing!
Wow the guitar sounds really nice, loved the middle-bridge pickup the most.
Also that Princeton reverb is something else, best sounding amp!
Glad you like it!
Came for the guitar, stayed for your amazing skills! Chapeau👏
Awesome! Thank you!
I've heard other people play this guitar...but a Master can pull out a million sounds out of it that others have not.Sounds amazing Tomo 💯❤️
Thanks so much!
I absolutely love the sterling/musicman neck feel/tone/look
Everything about them is great! Along with prs Ive never picked up a bad guitar from either of these brands but I love my prs se22 I got for 200$ used original price was 550$
Awesome!
My cousin gave me a sterling a few years back and man when I tell you it’s been the nest playing electric I own. The neck as you said feels great they are in a league of their own.
In your hands it's looks and sounds beautiful. Makes me want to pick my guitar up and try to improve.
Thank you!
I own gibsons, fenders, and the one I like the most is a Sterling cutless that I picked up second hand for 300 bucks
Awesome!
Dang that Princeton sounds awesome! You always do.
This Princeton is great one! With original power tubes!
Sensei! That rendition of little wing! Sweet🥰
Thank you!
I know this was basically an advert for a guitar, but I could sit and listen to this for hours.
Thank you!
Thats a lovely sounding sterling! I bought a Harley Benton HP-42 Signature TT Roasted last year and cost 400 dollars. its wonderful guitar for the money, has locking tuners, lovely frets, p90 neck and humbuckers bridge with split coil for the bridge and out of phase for middle and bridge also a flame baked maple neck and fretboard. It is such a nice guitar to play, and I play it all the time along side my Gibson SG. These days a 500 dollar guitar set up right and looked after you could trust to gig for your whole career!
Thanks for sharing!
Sounds Great! Always enjoy your practice time. Maybe you can talk about strumming technique some? Basics to advanced. Many thanks!
Great suggestion!
Amazing playing!! Wow
Thank you!
Ordered the CT50 HSS w/ maple here early last week but its on back order. I already have a Player in SSS so the Cutlass with a HB was something with different bridge tones i wanted. The dual action truss rod, locking tuners, roasted maple and 12 inch radius are all pluses for me.
Awesome!
Thank you very much, Tomo. Excellent demo, it sounds very good. I know it's your hands, but it doesn't feel as this guitar had much to envy to the PRS Silver whatever you played for us some time ago.
You're welcome! Thanks so much! I love the PRS too!
I played a Silver thing at a music store and thought it was a very nice strat copy. Nothing wrong with that. However, it's waaaaay overpriced. Used is definitely the way to go and it'll still be overpriced. Considering every aspect of it, $1,800- $2,000 is the most fair.
Thanks for sharing!
I think if you’re going to compare to the silver sky, you need to look at the USA cutlass. The Sterling is an excellent guitar at the price point, but the full blown Cutlass is a top quality guitar, to rival custom shop strats etc. If you are looking for an entry level guitar, you can’t go wrong with the Sterling .
really nice sounding may consider this for my next guitar
Something will be available around June... big surprise!!
Glad I found this guy,,great player and teacher..
Thanks!
@@TomoFujitaMusic ur welcome,,uve help me alot lately...
Honestly the best guitar I've owned so far was only 250 dollars. Prices can be deceiving!
I wonder what brand is that
@@aung1406 Epiphone
Awesome!
i wish other guitars were as comfortable as my Yamaha ERG 121 from 2001
In Nov 2019, I picked up an Ibanez GSA60 off of the local classifieds for $75. Some teenager had it and didn't want to learn how to play guitar after a while. I put a $18 'High Output' Guitar Madness pickup (DiMarzio clone) in it and the thing screams! It's VERY comfortable to play and SO lightweight!
Serene improvisation on Lenny Tomo san! ❤
Thank you!
I've fallen in love with CT50 HSS lately. Versatile sound, stunning colour and roasted neck with locking tuners. Have you tried them? Love your playing Tomo. Cheers!
Awesome! Thank you!
Yes there awesome I want one then I want to put a jb in the brigde.
I got myself one and love it. Mine has a maple neck and plays so sweet.
Awesome!
Beautiful playing mate
Thank you!
Made me think of sitting by a lake with my first cheap bad guitar. An older boy who was a classical guitarist was walking by and stopped to play my guitar a bit. He got some good sounds out of it before his fingers started hurting too bad.
Thank you for sharing!
I have bought an under 500$ Bacchus superstrat last December... that's the guitar I play the most nowadays, despite having several expensive guitars in my arsenal. Just a good, inspiring instrument. Even the electronics are ok.
Awesome!
Wow, that R&B-ish progression starting at 0:28 had me feeling all squooshy inside.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I want to quit my job and just play guitar.
Thank you!
Please watch these~

@@TomoFujitaMusic Thank you for pointing me to this. I had already started working out what some of them were before you posted this, and I think I'll continue before looking at your video, because I think it's educational for me to try and figure it out myself first.
The progression reminds me a bit of 70s jazzy R&B, like EW&F or Stevie. Which is some of my favorite music in the world. But after playing around with the first few bars, it became obvious to me that my main weakness here was the rhythm and muting. The chords will probably come more quickly than the rhythm will! :)
Thank you! Please join my Guitar Wisdom.
Man but that amp sounds amazing!
Thank you!
It’s a nice guitar and all, but the real pleasure is in listening to Tomo playing it.
Thank you!
Just got one today... but in SSH... freakin' amazing guitar for the money! I was actually testing out some Fender amps, including a Silver Face reissue '68 Princeton and a Lacquered Tweed Hot Rod Deluxe... two great, and totally different amps... couldn't decide on which amp... but I walked out with the guitar! 😎🤘🎸
Great to hear!
Thank you Fujita San for shedding light on this wonderful instrument. I'm so disappointed that guitars like this don't make it to the Canadian music shops. i.e. Long and McQuade. It really doesn't need to be this hard to get a fantastic instrument into the hands of the people dem. Import!
You're welcome! Thank you!
I ordered the 2021 roasted maple neck & fingerboard in firemist HSS last week from L&M here in Calgary. Its back ordered but will get here soon ihope!
Thanks Tomo
You're welcome!
Hi Tomo that guitar sounds great.
Thanks!
That's sweet Tomo. Had a Sterling Cutlass. Gigged with it all the time. Reliable. Great ST tones. They are more improved.😊👍
Good to hear!
That neck is really nice for the price range! and locking tuners.. at first glance you would think it was a high end Music Man.
Great feel neck!!
Tomo San inspires the musical beasts in all of us.
You're very welcome! My pleasure! Thank you so much!
oh man, your playing makes me love more the instrument to be honest
Thank you!
Looks and sounds like it needs a good set up. Thank you for sharing.... --gary
Thank you!
You’re fantastic.
Wow, thank you!
Is this a sub model??? Thanks and well done as always. You are truly inspiring
Thank you!
Please make a video on what you did at the beginning ❤️ it was amazing
Thank you!
Which one? Where?
I bought a Jackson warrior with a wood finish for £320 and it's my favourite guitar.
Awesome!
Nice sounds, on your hands looks so easy. I need more practice.
You can do it!
Wonderful Tomo 😊 I owned the MM Cutlass - great guitar but, for my taste, the tension was too slinky - Silver Sky tension felt better. Feel/tension importance would be a good video sometime (even same scale length guitars can feel different) - Thanks 🙏
Thanks for sharing!
Tomo I bought one and loved it (at first). Took it to a luthier and they told me the neck was bent bad enough that the Truss rod could not make proper adjustment without breaking. Sadly had to send it back and they are now sold out
Then you can return it! Thanks for sharing!
Wow... so awsome sound
すごええ!
Thanks!
Thats how I feel about my G&L legacy tribute
Groovy as usual!
Great!
I love my G&L Legacy Tribute too and my G&L ASAT Classic, after years of buying and selling my guitars , I got have only these two electrics and I'm very satisfied.
@@marksystemed4678 Awesome! Great job! I am working that part. Gear diet! Less things better!
Thanks for showing how those that can’t afford the big ticket items, can actually get a good guitar fir less... 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍
You're welcome!
honestly mr Fujita..I play for like 38 years now and have been pro..jazz funk bossa rock etc..I've sold all of me expensive guitars and now mu guitars are 500 euro max value..got some..35. with a good setup and few mods all these axes sounds fantastic. I matter really more of a good amp..well few of them..solid states and tubes. sound comes from your hands mind and heart. love ur channel. Jeff from france
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
@@TomoFujitaMusic secret one..the last guitar I bought is a Hartwood revival..335 style..it's a real bomb for the price..next one is gonna be the libretto same brand
@@drno2141 Thanks for sharing!
my primary instrument is the guitar, which I've had to give up playing after a car accident in 2007. my hands and fingers just don't do it well anymore.
but my heart still swells when I see and hear a good guitar.
Hey I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, and I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but, would or could you consider playing a brass instrument like a trumpet or a trombone? You don't need a lot, if any, finger dexterity for those instruments. And you can still play jazz/blues/soul/funk on them.
There are many other ways to play guitar! Please be kind to yourself!
i mostly make electronic music nowadays. but i have indeed been itching to pick up the guitar once more. who knows what the future holds? and this channel is very inspiring.
@@rkomada88 i appreciate your suggestion!
@@AllanKoayTC Thanks so much! You can play just one finger phrasing style... slide guitar? Many ways!
Oh come on...be real, I could totally see you shredding on a cigarbox guitar you are totally awesome when it comes to this instrument a true professor of the trade thanks for the video
Wow, thanks!
Great video as per usual Tomo, BUT maybe you could let Sterling/Musicman know that the guitar isnt available for sale as yet here in Europe( i have sent a few e mails to sterling/musicman requesting further info, but alas no reply) and, using google brings up more than a few stores that say that this guitar has been discontinued(i am NOT mixing up the CT50 with the CT30)..... i kid you not!
Be safe T & keep the highly enjoyable vids coming

dang! tbh, it's a matter of hands.. it sounds so good

I love my Strat, but a Cutlass! I learned to drive in a 69 Cutlass which I later bought from my Dad. Cutlass, hmm this old guy wants a new Cutlass. Touche!
Awesome!
"Armed and Ready" #3ll Yeah ... new here and you shocked me. thought you were going to play some Eric J on the first distortion which sounded great btw, but you fooled me
Yes! Thank you!
Hi! Can you do a review of epiphone sg special ve? Btw greatt vidd!👏🙌
If I have one, it's possible... I don't have that one. Thank you!
Nice!
Thanks!
That guitar sounded surprisingly good right out of the box. Very Strat-like, & there didn't seem to be any weak tones at any position of the 5 way switch.
Also..what was that second pedal you plugged in? It's the one where you said 'effect off' then played with it on again. Man, that was sweeet! It sounded like a tone booster with the best compressor in the world added on. It wasn't distortion because it was clean but just really robust, with great sustain. That pedal sounded AWESOME😁
Thanks so much! I put all gear information in the description.
I like that little bit from Lenny by SRV
Thank you!
Just bought a Greco 335, the other day I played a real 1965 ES-335. I honestly prefer mine! Price/brand means nothing. It’s what feels best
Awesome!
Tomo can make any guitar sound good..
Thank you!
Tomo pulls out a screwdriver to modify the pickups on the guitar and the music keeps playing in his head and comes out his mouth instead of his fingers. Wonderful!
Thank you!
Typically I don’t like S type guitars at all. This one is making me reconsider. Beautiful.
Thank you!
What do you mean by S type guitars?
@@xealzy944 I'm not 'guitarista', and I'm reading the comments before watching the video, but I'm guessing S type means (Fender) Stratocaster type guitars.
@@SeekerNJWC And you'd be correct.
Tomo, I know you did a video on playing the blues with no backing but, can you share what is your approach? Do you play arpeggios with approaching notes? Do you use scales? Just sounds beautiful
Thanks so much! Glad you liked my approach!
Hi Tomo,
Incredible playing... may I ask what that opening riff/song is that you are playing? it’s amazing, would love to hear more! Thanks..
Thanks so much! Please watch these~

Always funky, no matter what guitar. Is it me, or is that wall of amps behind you growing fast?
Thanks! miraclegro!
A real guitar player for sure
Thank you
I got that exact guitar used in excellent condition for $400 and I am happy to know that if it doesn't sound as good as Tomo's playing, then that is all my fault and I can no longer blame my gear.
Please enjoy!
Incredible guitar for this price
Awesome!
Do you have a video about strumming lesson ? I want to learn the basics again but I dont know what title you put if you have any videos about it 😅
I have this "noise" when I strum a chord and I find it hard to make it sound smooth when I play any chord.
I have many detail lessons at my Guitar Wisdom.
Superb playing Maestro!... I’ve one question though.... This Cutlass or a new Classic Vibe Squire.... which would you say would be the better overall choice??... Squire has a lot more options to choose from but if you had to choose??
Great question! You should ask more people about this! Thank you!
Thank you for the beautiful demo...
Guitar sounds amazing, really like the head color and tone is amazing too...
But I guess most of it is coz who is playing it...
I didn't noticed, wah wah sound and that was something really cool what you did to correct it, atleast for me..
Amazing ad libing in btw...
God bless..
Thank you too!
Sounds good. Any chance you can compare it to one of your favorite Fender Strats? How’s the tremolo? How’s the tuning stability with or without tremolo use? Sounds really good on this end, especially considering the price. Thanks for the demo.
Great suggestion!
Original strings? Sounds good! Adding it to the list!
Yes, I did not change anything!
man how do you do that muted funky strum thing that you do? sounds amazing
Thank you! I have many detail lessons at my Guitar Wisdom!
nice!😎
Thanks ✌
Tomo, a turn to that guitar company thanks!
Thanks!
