The Sterling looks and sounds way above that price point. The sound is likely all in Tomo's fingers but it shows the guitar has potential.

Great playing as always. Love the roasted maple neck on that new Cutlass. My favorite strat for practice is a cheap 3 color sunburst 2012 model Squier SE I got from Goodwill for $117 shipped. Barely weighs 7 pounds. Came from the factory with a AA flame maple neck! Soldered in new cts pots with push back wire, .033µF orange drop tone cap, orange drop treble bleed .001µF w/ 150 kΩ Metal Film Resistor, crl switch, switchcraft jack and clearance GFS sss pickups. New Fender tort pickguard, cream pup covers and knobs and hipshot locking tuners. Needed a few high frets lowered, crowned and polished all frets, put some conditioner on the rosewood fretboard and set it up. All in cost $314. Freaking thing is a tone monster. I on the other hand am a permanent beginner guitarist lol.

This guitar is a beauty, sounds really good (especially in a master’s hands😊), and has way more going on for it than just $499. I’m also a sucker for that shade of blue! Locking tuners, roasted neck, cool headstock design.....what’s not to like?

I bought a Harley Benton HP-42 Signature TT Roasted last year and cost 400 dollars. its wonderful guitar for the money, has locking tuners, lovely frets, p90 neck and humbuckers bridge with split coil for the bridge and out of phase for middle and bridge also a flame baked maple neck and fretboard. It is such a nice guitar to play, and I play it all the time along side my Gibson SG. These days a 500 dollar guitar set up right and looked after you could trust to gig for your whole career!

I think if you’re going to compare to the silver sky, you need to look at the USA cutlass. The Sterling is an excellent guitar at the price point, but the full blown Cutlass is a top quality guitar, to rival custom shop strats etc. If you are looking for an entry level guitar, you can’t go wrong with the Sterling .

my primary instrument is the guitar, which I've had to give up playing after a car accident in 2007. my hands and fingers just don't do it well anymore.
but my heart still swells when I see and hear a good guitar.

Hey I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, and I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but, would or could you consider playing a brass instrument like a trumpet or a trombone? You don't need a lot, if any, finger dexterity for those instruments. And you can still play jazz/blues/soul/funk on them.

Great video as per usual Tomo, BUT maybe you could let Sterling/Musicman know that the guitar isnt available for sale as yet here in Europe( i have sent a few e mails to sterling/musicman requesting further info, but alas no reply) and, using google brings up more than a few stores that say that this guitar has been discontinued(i am NOT mixing up the CT50 with the CT30)..... i kid you not!

That guitar sounded surprisingly good right out of the box. Very Strat-like, & there didn't seem to be any weak tones at any position of the 5 way switch.
Also..what was that second pedal you plugged in? It's the one where you said 'effect off' then played with it on again. Man, that was sweeet! It sounded like a tone booster with the best compressor in the world added on. It wasn't distortion because it was clean but just really robust, with great sustain. That pedal sounded AWESOME😁
