He literally went back in time to fix his broken timeline/future & nearly killed Sonic multiple times... and he did nothing in Forces. Sonic Boom & Sonic 06 are their own bad and while Sonic Generations & Sonic Colors (wii) have barebones storytelling it makes up for in amazing, replayable gameplay. Sonic Colors (ds) fixed wii's story by including other characters in each world. Besides that I do agree with great cinematics and heavy drip marketing. They look amazing, but I hope the pre-ordering doesn't detour them to cut corners and not flesh out the game just for a quick cash grab on nostalgia. The base game is great already, but it feels like they're using Sonic Generations to promote Shadow like how they did with Sonic Forces with Sonic Colors/Sonic Generations...
I really don't understand why so little people are aware of this. Sonic Generations and Shadow Generations are in 2 different engines, Hedgehog Engine 1 & 2 respectively, and the same frameworks built with it. This is why Shadow can't drift, and he has the double jump. It's built of of Sonic Frontiers. This is why the jump balls are the same, 360 air movement is the same, graphics are the same, boost effects are the same, air boost is the same, and the combat is the same. It's in the same engine and framework as Frontiers, and different to Generations. Edit: I have been informed that the Hedgehog Engines are just for lighting, and the gameplay was just made along side it. In that case, my point still stands, but I'd just like to make that clear, so I edited the og comment to highlight it. Thanks to everyone who corrected me. 🙏

Many people have said that it controls very well, and Fadel says it's "like cyberspace but good", which is just the open world.

I don’t think it would make sense for Shadow to have the same dialogue as he did in the time eater fight because the games are supposed to take place at the same time. If Shadow goes through all that. it wouldn’t make sense for him to just be like “You got this Sonic”. Idk why but i also feel like Silver is gonna have a role in this somehow. Maybe not an entire Story but i feel like he’s gonna have a DLC story. Hopefully if so they bring back Pete Capella

5:23 I've really gotta stress that the removal of lives means you can restart stages, without losing lives, similar to Unleashed in which if you wanted to grind a stage for a better time, you needed a huge stack of lives cause if you made a mistake & restarted, you lost a life, but it's also extremely monotonous having to exit & reload an entire stage over 1 mistake, if you're tryna save your lives. The removal of lives in this remaster fixes that issue entirely.
I bought the deluxe edition along with a shadow plush to celebrate the year of shadow this is the most hyped Ive been for a game before and I think they will make a boss per game shadow comes from so like a sonic heroes boss, 06 boss, and shadows game boss they could also add rival fights like sonic vs shadow, mephiles vs shadow and shadow vs black bull or somethin so this game has a lot of potential lets just hope it turns out how we expect it
I'm not even sure why I bother commenting anymore. I'm so jaded about sonic as a franchise, I started with adventure 2 and I understand a lot of people started in the 2D era of sonic games and want that but I just want a serviceable 3D sonic game. Sonic Mania was a good 2D sonic game and it took a studio that wasn't sonic team to make it happen. The control of your character just feels awful now, the boost formula sucks. Why can't they just do a game that isn't completely broken like sonic 06 with spin dash, homing attack, and maybe even bounce? They could make the bounce better then it was in adventure 2 if everything else felt good. I also can't stand the whole switching from 2D to 3D thing they do constantly, just make a fully 3D GOOD sonic game. It can't be THAT difficult. All the same I like Shadow the character, I didn't even realize this was just a remaster of the old generations with an extra shadow campaign. The odds of it being good are so low >.> even though part of me wants to give it a shot. Also the chao garden, it made SA2 so much more replayable imo certainly when I was younger. It's like they put chaos on the promotional poster just to screw with me.
I forgot to mention, you are 100% right on the japanese boxart being much better. The american one is a lazy, lame edit of the original Gens' boxart adding Shadow in the middle, with neither of the Sonics even acknowledging that he's there. Meanwhile the japanese one not only does it have actual new artwork for Sonic, and not only it clearly shows that the Sonic and Shadow portions are separate, it's a clear reference to the logo of Sonic Adventure 2. It's absolutely fantastic.
There's no need to hate on the American boxart. Both are incredible the way they are, one is a evolution of the original game's art, and the other gets its creativity to the next level! 😊
Bro if they simply remade Generations. This would be worth it I been wanting solely Generations for like 13 years. Now I'll have Generations and a 10-12 hrs Shadow game too. As one of those kids who like Shadow The Hedgehog. I didn't believe Sega would ever let Shadow be an MC again. The way people dog on the game for issues all the adventure style games had. And cause he had a gun.
Chao being the new wisps would be hilarious and at least give chaos a stab back in the series. They are sorta magical so it wouldnt be too farfatched for them to have an unknown ability. And maybe Maria was an artist in her life and that collectable is for artwork and why the paint brush isnthe icon. Also pro tip, print out the Japan cover and slap it in your physical box
I’m going to write some bullet points about Sonic Generations Remastered as I watch -The Drop Dash will be a ton of fun for Classic Sonic but I have no clue how I’ll utilize it for Modern Sonic, maybe it’ll be helpful for the platform heavy sections like in Sky Sanctuary, Crisis City, and Perfect Chaos’s boss fight -I’ll give the Frontiers controls a shot, those might be more comfortable for this game, especially since I like going for perfect runs and have to do some precise boost jumps and stuff -I am actually really glad they’re getting rid of lives for one main reason: you lost a life every time you restart the level, and that gets on my freaking nerves and makes perfect runs incredibly frustrating to go for (since when you reach zero lives, “Start Over” is grayed out so you have to manually back out of the stage to restart) -The Chao acting as a companion along with the skill system ALONG WITH alternate skins is going to make customizing Sonic a ton of fun -Thank god they added a display for Red Star Rings, 100% completion will be way more fun now! Hopefully they make it to where you don’t have to beat Green Hill Zone to get Red Star Rings unlike the original game, that was a really weird and arbitrary change
Skill points (and the Chao card) are all in the base game, and used to buy trivial upgrades like an instant recovery after damage or increased boost gauge, so I wouldn't bank on that too hard. I'm thinking the paintbrush might also be concept art from Adventure 2, Shadow '07 and Shadow Generations, but as you mentioned, the music notes already had that covered in Sonic Generations (though Sonic Generations also gave concept art for red star rings, which are missing from Shadow Generations). As for Shadow Generations omitting the drift, its most likely due to being built on Frontiers, which doesn't seem to have a good handle on drifting just yet, delegating it to gated zones in cyber space.
Not my 9 year old self who was obsessed with Sonic Adventure 2 with friends back in the day being unable to control themselves and pre order the Limited Run Collector's Edition of this, lol....The Chao Garden was the ultimate replayability

I’ve NEVER got to play the original Sonic Generations, so, I’m EXCITED for it! I pre-ordered this game about a week ago, and I got the Digital Deluxe Edition for this game. So, I’ll be able to play this three days early, starting on the 22nd! I’ll be getting ALL the pre-order content stuff!

I think the final boss for Shadow Generations will be Black Doom because the Sonic X Shadow Generations Official website says "Use all of Shadow's abilities to defeat Black Doom and save the world!". Maybe in his Devil Doom form, but considering so far we have only seen his eye, I think that's all that's left of his body after Shadow beat the crap out of him when he tried to take over the world last time.
I can totally see them adding shadow themed levels, first easy stuff like prison island, and the Ark, but then the floating ruins from Shadow the Hedgehog and maybe the black comet.
I'm fairly certain the paintbrush is just concept art, much in line with all the collectables that base Generations had for collecting Red Star Rings, or the notes in the hub world. Makes sense to me, but it would be cool if there was a customization area in the hub where you can make Shadow look a certain way. Though, I doubt it, considering they're giving players DLC for a skin to make him look like Terios, or for Sonic to look like his polygonal model from Sonic Adventure 1

As an avid Sonic Gens player, I’m so happy lives are being removed from the game. It just saves me the trouble of needing to go to the shop and buy some lives after I’ve been speedrunning a stage and restarting over and over so I can get that perfect run lol. And I personally think Shadow Gens looks amazing, and it’s potentially the best Sonic game since Sonic Gens which is very fitting. So I have no problems buying this game…
Shadow getting his own standalone adventure in more than almost 20 years is truly incredible and the only reason to truly buy this. Sonic Generations is a classic as well everyone should play.

As much as I hate to see life systems going, really the only time I even burned lives in Generations was resetting the level because I missed a ring that was in a particularly difficult spot to reach consistently, like that one after the first building jump on the board in City Escape. I feel like they work for more demanding games, but they're tedius here because it really only "challenges" your ability to find the collectibles. I feel like if this game were harder it would be more of a loss. The quality of life changes definitely add to the value of the game. The old trick system could use some polishing up, and I prefer the new controls for the main Sonic campaign. Going between Generations and Frontiers is...jarring without remapping buttons.
idk about the chao garden meh, don't think having the red stars show up while you're playing the zone is a good idea it just creates more screen clutter its not hard to know while playing how many you've collected and seeing it in the hub zone it's easier and I think it will create a less quality of life and just more screen clutter or approach lets say you've collected the 3rd red star and have the star hub show up for a few seconds as you collect the star it fills the star position so you know what you've collected and then the star hub disappears again. Also great idea maybe they should create a theatre mode were with one click of the button everything in the hub disappears and its just you sonic and the zone. Hope they port a shadow game in that would be cool. Yea agree the Japan version looks cool! And YESSS let the fans play and show off the game not the others!!!
On the lives argument, I only ever game overed as a kid and then I'd either give up, get pissed or both. I've recently gone back and messed with the "classic" modes within 1 and 2 in origins with lives to find they had become trivial.

5:55 I only game over a lot because of the stupid system that you lose a life restarting a level. It makes for Mario because it’s more casual. But Sonic’s a franchise that thrives on replaying levels. Removing that goes against the point of having a restart option to begin with. Ngl, I do know Genshin is really easy to S rank. But I personally just like time trialing Gens more. Sonic games are really fun when you time trial certain ones. It’s why I liked that Frontiers, Advance 3, and now Dream Team as well, ranks you for how fast you go in a level. Time and Score Attack are really underrated modes most players are never incentivize to do them in games. Unless it’s an old game like PAC-MAN.

Thing about lives was that it cost you a life to restart a level, which when you're trying to PB on a stage like Speed Highway with a demanding initial skip you do a LOT. Lives added nothing to the game and only mildly hindered your progress while trying to PB, so removing them is only a good thing

Japan typically gets the best stuff, If we could preorder the collector's box for $70 most of us would. I expect Radical Highway to be a stage & you should note that Shadow's wings are in the same place as Metal Overlord's. The Japanese Boxart is a direct reference to Adventure 2 artwork.

I'd like for SEGA/SonicTeam to go back to "multiple characters", rather than constantly playing as Sonic. Sonic games, to me, are games that involve Sonic and his friends. If Frontiers 2 comes out, or ever comes out, i'd like for them to make speed being first and combat being second for Sonic but combat being first and speed being second for Shadow

I'll pay full whack just for Generations being remastered full stop. The original is good but I find it nearly unplayable on PS3 due to sub par frame rate and low resolution. Not being an Xbox owner I was unable to try the 60fps backward compatible mode there on series X/S. A game that truly needs a remaster for me.

I would love to give all of my trust to this game but I feel like it's gonna be a bit of a ripoff. The audacity for sega to call Sonic Generations a remaster when it looks exactly the same. And we don't want to accept it, but the Shadow game is gonna be composed by like 5 or 6 stages (And that's saying a lot). The fact that it's coming packed with Sonic Generations forcefully and not as a standalone title rings all the wrong bells. Guys, we're gonna be paying full price for a product that 70% of it is not new. SEGA gets a lot of love and for good reasons, but let's not be blind. Let's see how the finished product looks like before preordering.

I am a sucker for art books, but am also somewhat concerned about locking levels behind the digital deluxe version. I'm hoping it's not plot or story relevant, because that would be unfair to people who didn't want to shell ten bucks for what is otherwise just cosmetic content.

I guess the US one is more to my preferences, since I like how they are all running towards the camera and don’t have the same stylized detail as the JP one. Even then, I do think the JP one is significantly better in every way. Even then, one thing I can say the US box art does better, is that it actually advertises Classic Sonic. It’s so weird that he’s not on the JP box art.

Hedgehog Engine 2 is a lighting engine. The physics the boost games used was called Havok Engine which they don't use anymore.

All the same I like Shadow the character, I didn't even realize this was just a remaster of the old generations with an extra shadow campaign. The odds of it being good are so low >.> even though part of me wants to give it a shot.
Also the chao garden, it made SA2 so much more replayable imo certainly when I was younger. It's like they put chaos on the promotional poster just to screw with me.
I forgot to mention, you are 100% right on the japanese boxart being much better. The american one is a lazy, lame edit of the original Gens' boxart adding Shadow in the middle, with neither of the Sonics even acknowledging that he's there. Meanwhile the japanese one not only does it have actual new artwork for Sonic, and not only it clearly shows that the Sonic and Shadow portions are separate, it's a clear reference to the logo of Sonic Adventure 2. It's absolutely fantastic.
There's no need to hate on the American boxart. Both are incredible the way they are, one is a evolution of the original game's art, and the other gets its creativity to the next level! 😊

Bro if they simply remade Generations. This would be worth it I been wanting solely Generations for like 13 years. Now I'll have Generations and a 10-12 hrs Shadow game too. As one of those kids who like Shadow The Hedgehog. I didn't believe Sega would ever let Shadow be an MC again. The way people dog on the game for issues all the adventure style games had. And cause he had a gun.
My fave part about the chao in the cutscene, is that the NiGHTS chao is included alongside the spirit chao, Chaos Chao, and even both hero/dark chao
Chao being the new wisps would be hilarious and at least give chaos a stab back in the series. They are sorta magical so it wouldnt be too farfatched for them to have an unknown ability. And maybe Maria was an artist in her life and that collectable is for artwork and why the paint brush isnthe icon. Also pro tip, print out the Japan cover and slap it in your physical box
I’m going to write some bullet points about Sonic Generations Remastered as I watch
-The Drop Dash will be a ton of fun for Classic Sonic but I have no clue how I’ll utilize it for Modern Sonic, maybe it’ll be helpful for the platform heavy sections like in Sky Sanctuary, Crisis City, and Perfect Chaos’s boss fight
-I’ll give the Frontiers controls a shot, those might be more comfortable for this game, especially since I like going for perfect runs and have to do some precise boost jumps and stuff
-I am actually really glad they’re getting rid of lives for one main reason: you lost a life every time you restart the level, and that gets on my freaking nerves and makes perfect runs incredibly frustrating to go for (since when you reach zero lives, “Start Over” is grayed out so you have to manually back out of the stage to restart)
-The Chao acting as a companion along with the skill system ALONG WITH alternate skins is going to make customizing Sonic a ton of fun
-Thank god they added a display for Red Star Rings, 100% completion will be way more fun now! Hopefully they make it to where you don’t have to beat Green Hill Zone to get Red Star Rings unlike the original game, that was a really weird and arbitrary change

Skill points (and the Chao card) are all in the base game, and used to buy trivial upgrades like an instant recovery after damage or increased boost gauge, so I wouldn't bank on that too hard.
I'm thinking the paintbrush might also be concept art from Adventure 2, Shadow '07 and Shadow Generations, but as you mentioned, the music notes already had that covered in Sonic Generations (though Sonic Generations also gave concept art for red star rings, which are missing from Shadow Generations).
As for Shadow Generations omitting the drift, its most likely due to being built on Frontiers, which doesn't seem to have a good handle on drifting just yet, delegating it to gated zones in cyber space.

I'm fairly certain the paintbrush is just concept art, much in line with all the collectables that base Generations had for collecting Red Star Rings, or the notes in the hub world. Makes sense to me, but it would be cool if there was a customization area in the hub where you can make Shadow look a certain way. Though, I doubt it, considering they're giving players DLC for a skin to make him look like Terios, or for Sonic to look like his polygonal model from Sonic Adventure 1

As an avid Sonic Gens player, I’m so happy lives are being removed from the game. It just saves me the trouble of needing to go to the shop and buy some lives after I’ve been speedrunning a stage and restarting over and over so I can get that perfect run lol.
And I personally think Shadow Gens looks amazing, and it’s potentially the best Sonic game since Sonic Gens which is very fitting. So I have no problems buying this game…

As much as I hate to see life systems going, really the only time I even burned lives in Generations was resetting the level because I missed a ring that was in a particularly difficult spot to reach consistently, like that one after the first building jump on the board in City Escape. I feel like they work for more demanding games, but they're tedius here because it really only "challenges" your ability to find the collectibles. I feel like if this game were harder it would be more of a loss.
The quality of life changes definitely add to the value of the game. The old trick system could use some polishing up, and I prefer the new controls for the main Sonic campaign. Going between Generations and Frontiers is...jarring without remapping buttons.

idk about the chao garden meh, don't think having the red stars show up while you're playing the zone is a good idea it just creates more screen clutter its not hard to know while playing how many you've collected and seeing it in the hub zone it's easier and I think it will create a less quality of life and just more screen clutter or approach lets say you've collected the 3rd red star and have the star hub show up for a few seconds as you collect the star it fills the star position so you know what you've collected and then the star hub disappears again. Also great idea maybe they should create a theatre mode were with one click of the button everything in the hub disappears and its just you sonic and the zone. Hope they port a shadow game in that would be cool. Yea agree the Japan version looks cool! And YESSS let the fans play and show off the game not the others!!!

I only game over a lot because of the stupid system that you lose a life restarting a level.
It makes for Mario because it’s more casual. But Sonic’s a franchise that thrives on replaying levels. Removing that goes against the point of having a restart option to begin with.
Ngl, I do know Genshin is really easy to S rank. But I personally just like time trialing Gens more. Sonic games are really fun when you time trial certain ones. It’s why I liked that Frontiers, Advance 3, and now Dream Team as well, ranks you for how fast you go in a level.
Time and Score Attack are really underrated modes most players are never incentivize to do them in games. Unless it’s an old game like PAC-MAN.

Thing about lives was that it cost you a life to restart a level, which when you're trying to PB on a stage like Speed Highway with a demanding initial skip you do a LOT. Lives added nothing to the game and only mildly hindered your progress while trying to PB, so removing them is only a good thing

Not being an Xbox owner I was unable to try the 60fps backward compatible mode there on series X/S.

I would love to give all of my trust to this game but I feel like it's gonna be a bit of a ripoff. The audacity for sega to call Sonic Generations a remaster when it looks exactly the same. And we don't want to accept it, but the Shadow game is gonna be composed by like 5 or 6 stages (And that's saying a lot). The fact that it's coming packed with Sonic Generations forcefully and not as a standalone title rings all the wrong bells.
Guys, we're gonna be paying full price for a product that 70% of it is not new. SEGA gets a lot of love and for good reasons, but let's not be blind. Let's see how the finished product looks like before preordering.
Idk if it’s just me or does it seem like Sega took some inspiration from spiderman for the shadow portion, Idk if you noticed in the new gameplay of the cutscenes to stage transitions and it’s so sick, or the venom wings etc, has a hub open world.
I am a sucker for art books, but am also somewhat concerned about locking levels behind the digital deluxe version. I'm hoping it's not plot or story relevant, because that would be unfair to people who didn't want to shell ten bucks for what is otherwise just cosmetic content.

Am I’m shocked that I still prefer the US box art over the JP one.
I guess the US one is more to my preferences, since I like how they are all running towards the camera and don’t have the same stylized detail as the JP one. Even then, I do think the JP one is significantly better in every way.
Even then, one thing I can say the US box art does better, is that it actually advertises Classic Sonic. It’s so weird that he’s not on the JP box art.
