Welcome to the annual recap of the best and worst music gear of 2020. Thank you for all the support in 2020 everyone, I really appreciate you being on board. There are a few things mentioned you'll see pop up before the end of the year if it's not already on the channel. Usually, these videos come out on the 14th of the year, but I was a little behind schedule! There are timestamps and links to everything in the description below. Thanks again for all the support and if I missed anything let me know. I wanted to spend a little more time talking about the gear in this video than just making mention of it. Rock on and all the best for the rest of 2020 into 2021! 🙏🏻🎸
Dont know why people complain about being left no on and by no one I mean almost no one looks better with a jaguar then a lefty cos that's first lefty I seen playing and had a jag Kurt's left handed jag is just how to look the muts nuts with a geetar and like I said almost no one after all johny marr is a cool as jeff becks sammy bar and Jimmy Hendrix's fuzzface combined but exept johny no one rocks a jag like a lefty and if you a right and you think you look the nuts ya entitled to ya opinion ya wrong but good on you for daring to look silly congrats but leftys and jags just go together like men and pedals factingtons
Another year gone by, but what a challenging, frustrating year 2020 has been. Firstly, I hope and pray everyone stays safe and condolences to all who have lost friends and family this year (myself included). Shane I was definitely looking forward to the major trip to the USA, however you made an excellent effort to keep this channel on track! One thing I’ve learned from watching this channel is you have shown gear here that I didn’t think I’d enjoy and I end up buying it!! The ToneMaster Twin and the soon to be purchased 60s Les Paul Standard are just two examples. The epic live streams with Ric during the late spring/early summer definitely entertained and was a great distraction!!!! Hoping 2021 brings us back to normal and we get more live music around the world! Shane, thank you for all your hard work!! Cheers!!🎸🎸🎸🎸😎😎
I hope you are doing okay Devv. Thanks mate, it was hard to keep motivated here during the Worlds longest lockdown but I turned the inability to do anything else into something hopefully positive :). Rock on mate and all the best.
your reviews are always appreciated. Incidentally, your chops keep getting better and better. Just happened to notice. Peace and Happy Holidays, Shane !
Another Great no BS honest review of a good variety of gear. I've become an instant fan. Thanks for taking to time to do this, and keeping us informed. Cheers!
Hi Shane I live in south Wales UK and am a subscriber to your channel. For me your reviews are awesome, informative and, most important, totally unbiased and honest. I would like to wish you and your family a happy New Year and look forward to your shows next year.
Totally agree about New Year celebrations. I turned down a NYE gig because I plan to just go away somewhere for those few days and be happy to see the arse end of 2020. Man I hope this virus pisses off soon and people do the right thing to make it so. Seriously miss playing live and travelling overseas. Let’s hope 2021 gets back to something we recognise. Have a great Xmas and New Year Shane, thanks for your work.
Great video man. I like the Kiesel Tele and here's why. About 30 years ago I bought a brand new Carvin T style with a set neck and ebony fretboard. They were the predecessor of Kiesel, made in California. Great to see them getting good reviews.
@intheblues Thank you & a Happy New Gear Year. I do not understand why, in your opinion, the Captor X is better than the Torpedo LIVE (the latter I own and use since it is on the market). Isn't it more or less identical tech? Cheers!
I picked up a Gibson Les Paul Special in TV yellow also a couple months ago. I walked into a local store and they had a used 2019 in mint condition hanging on the wall. I only wanted to play it out of curiosity but I was just blown away by it. It was one of those moments where you just connect with a guitar. Playing it through my DSL40C is just heaven.
Some great gear there, totally agree with the whole Amp Silo thing, love mine. Oh, and thanks for guesting on my channel earlier in the year, may have to do that again in 2021 😁
We all want this year to ust go away. Michigan in the USA has been pretty much closed as far as being a musician goes. Lots are really hurting and it sucks. We have to get people back out playing. UA-camrs like you have got us through the year. Thanks. Happy New Year.
Merry Christmas Shane! Thanks for a great year in reviews and videos. It's been a "breath of fresh air" to have such a chill place to hang with such a hip "bartender" amidst the worst year in most of our lifetimes. I can always count on you for sweet vids, sick licks, and an all around decency worth noting. Keep doing you dude! It's appreciated. CHEERS!!!
great to c an honest opinion on Harley Benton guitars.. love ya honesty mate.. I was in the market for a blues jr.. but I pulled the trigger on the Artist Tweed 20.. loved your review.. and I'm buying Aussie made..🤘🤘🤘
I went in to Sky Music for the first time today. I half expected to see you there! They do have a great range. No doubt I'll be back, might see you there next time! 😀
The shop is so good hey, loads of good gear! I go in there once every other week or so :). I am all done for the year now video-wise but no doubt I'll end up back there over the break.
Love that Tokai man...I just got my Luxor LP custom back after 7 years Better than most of the Gibson LPs I've had But do have a proper Gibby SG Jr a 66 w a 59 pup in it Love em both Good demo man Have a good new year 👍
I love your Kiesel man! I've spec'd out thousands of different models and options on their website and one day I'll have enough money to own one! You always inspire me man keep up the good content! And hope y'all have a great Christmas Holliday!
I really appreciate your review of the Joyo Jam Buddy. That's probably my favorite piece of gear that I bought in the past year. I've used mine almost everyday since last April.
If the jack socket nut keeps coming loose then check that it is on the right way round (Some have a smooth side that looks good and a rougher side that grips) and that there is a locking washer somewhere on the thread. When I service guitars I always tighten the socket up and then put the smallest dot of superglue onto the thread. I use the cut off end of a 10 guage string to pick the drop of glue up from a drop out of the bottle. Trust me, too much glue is a pain to clean up. I have yet to have any guitar come back for it's next service with a wobbly socket in ten years. Great video, nice to see honest opinion.
Hello Shane i hope you're well and safe, i really enjoyed your video. I'm also gonna do the treble bleed thing, my guitar is at the luthier right now for some pickup changes so i might as well do that too. If you ever do the tube screamer video please get your hands on a Hardwire CM-2 Tube Overdrive, i'm not much of a tube screamer fan but that one is so underrated. It's sort of more than a traditional tube screamer. It can also go down near bluesbreaker territory and also almost reach distortion levels. Two modes with bass and treble knobs. Such a great pedal.
Love your reviews. Love your modesty, knowledge and willingness to explore affordable gear. Re the LP Special...I’ve got a Collings 290 with P90’s and would love to see you do a comparison with those guitars as well as a comparison between higher end/lower end pedals. Keep it up Shane👍😎
Great Channel Shane , high quality content throughout the whole year I’m sure it was a lot of work to do but very resourceful and great to watch ( a lot of channels polluting UA-cam- yours is a breath of fresh air) , disappointed that you didn’t like the Fender Tweed Blues Junior much - It’s a brilliant amp.
I love this!!! Great to remember all the cool gear over the year. I hope you’re able to get to the states in 2021. You’ve made this horrible year so much better with your videos. I really appreciate it. 🎸🔥🎸🔥🎸🔥🎸
Tell the folks at MLA that your video sold a Peacock overdrive here! Ordered a couple weeks ago, and (im)patiently waiting for it to be built and get here!
Great video Shane, not to be a downer but I always appreciate when reviewers are somethings down on a piece of gear, its pretty rare but when it pops up I know I can trust that person to be honest with their rave reviews. You are must watch tv for me this year and dont see that changing anytime soon. Cheers fr Canada.
Hey Shane FYI if you ever decide to change the wrap around on the Special Sometimes they start to dip with age The Faber HyBridge is fantastic I put one one my 66 Jr and it rang out so much more than the original plus it was dipping or leaning in like the old ones tend to do But yours being brand new All good Best wishes for 21 Mate 😀 Watching as I comment yes the Am originals are fantastic Best of both worlds Doesn't get much better 👌
Great year on the channel if not in other ways. Hopefully next year will be better for everyone. Have a good Christmas and all the best for 2021. Oh, and if you’re doing fewer pedal reviews, how about a couple of licks videos. I love the stuff you play and would really appreciate it or maybe pick one lick each video review and just do a quick explanation. Cheers.
Thanks for a great year of fantastic content. That loose nut; use locktite thread locker BLUE don't use the Red as it's permanent! (Ask me how I know lol)
Hi Shane, firstly I must say that I have no affiliation whatsoever to Harley Benton or to Thomann. Earlier this year we purchased the Harley Benton SC450 Plus as a birthday gift for a very good friend who I teach to play guitar. I have to say that I was so impressed by the quality and sound of that guitar. We had the opposite experience to you inasmuch as the guitar was in perfect condition and was pretty well set up, only requiring a slight dropping of the action, which I did for him and much to my amazement resulted in no fret buzz whatsoever. I wanted a bass guitar for myself to learn on and use when recording so my wife purchased for me a (lefty) Harley Benton Rickenbacker style bass. Again quality is excellent. Just after receiving the bass I had to have major surgery carried out on my head as a result of having been assaulted at work several years ago. This was the latest in a long line of head surgeries and unfortunately things did not go according to plan and I have been left profoundly deaf in both ears. I am going to have Cochlear Implant surgery in the New Year (probably late March or April) and after prolonged speech and hearing therapy should hopefully be able to enjoy music again. In the meantime I thoroughly enjoy videos likes yours using the Closed Caption (subtitle) option. Take care and have a great New Year!!
Nice Video! Love the year end recaps. You got a lefty Kiesel! How did I miss that? I’m a long time Carvin/Kiesel fan. That Hyland model is high on my wish list. Kiesel makes great guitars! A great place for lefties wanting something special or unique. Gotta go look for that video now!
I have been looking forward to your review, you always do a wonderful job and I greatly enjoy the end of year gear review. You have the best guitar channel on UA-cam!! Merry Christmas Shane.
Super nice and informative video. Thanks for going into detail, I was raving on the Nux Mighty Lite BT along with you when it came out! The newer Mighty Air is super nice too but can't be in the best due to the amp rattling at even 50% volume on some settings. The Mighty Plug however, is one of the best practice devices! Personally ended up getting a THR10ii and turned out near perfect.
You literally SOLD me the Gibson LP Special. Before I saw your video I never really noticed much about that model, actually, I thought it was just a cheap version of what an LP should be. OMG, how wrong was I, and with your video, something caught my attention and had to look for it, and I tried it and it was FANTASTIC! I recently tried for the first time an R9 and a 1992 Les Paul Standard (one exact one that appears in Greg's youtube channel), and both were very good of course, however in playability don't know why but the LP Special is the most fun to play IMO, and quality-wise feels as good as any other high priced LP I have played or tried. So thank you!! I don0t think I would ever have bought it if it wasn't for your video, and I'm very very happy with that guitar. Lol, even a friend who likes gibson very much, in particular customs, and that has tried a lot of high-end guitars the 2 times he has played the Special he has said he likes it very much, in sound since he loves P90's, but also the neck is great too.
@@intheblues Lol, yeah I know what you mean. Yes, the Gibson smell is great. There is something with Gibson that at the moment you open the case and have the smell, makes it such a great plus! I had a Gibson before that I sold, and I really missed that, and was also looking forward to that on this :) By the way, have you ever tried a Suhr guitar? I got a Classic S HSS this year (was a dream guitar of mine and they are scarce and expensive here in Chile), and WOW. Quality and playability is just amazing! Like an Ibanez AZ in a way but with a chunkier neck and everything is just perfect built. I would love to see your opinion on Suhr guitars since when you play it DOESN't feel like a fender, it is something different. And that's why I love your channel, we have similar taste in many things since I have a Blues Cube Hot and it's a great amp! Also this year I got the Spark Amp practice amp. If you can I would love your opinion too. It really is very fun to use, and actually have played more thanks to that. I have it on top of my work desk, lol. Sounds good and it's just very easy to choose a tone, a backing track or song a just play. If I ever go for a tube amp, the AC10 I have been very interested and was close to buy, but got the Blues Cube Hot last year, only because I play at home.
I really agree with the “fun-to-play” aspect of the Special. It’s really kind of intangible in a way and I can’t tell you exactly why, but even without it plugged in, it’s just a gas to play.
@@papadopp3870 Yeah! It's hard to explain. But definitively for me the Special is the best Gibson you can get for the money. I had a Traditional 2018, great guitar by the way, but with the Special I have never felt that I don't have like a "Real" Les Paul. It's just a monster guitar, very very good Gibson.
@@onlyguitars There is a kind of liveliness to the Special, for sure. It is very responsive and if you play it acoustically, unplugged, it sings. You can really feel that. My ‘97 double cut doesn’t feel like that at all. It’s what I always thought playing a Gibson Les Paul would feel like. And the P90s are simply awesome... nowhere near as noisy as I expected, just a very slightly higher noise floor than my humbucker guitars.
I’ve bought the Joyo American Sound and the Caline Snake Bite reverb pedals because of your videos. Love them both and damn cheap. Thanks heaps Shane for your great videos.
You should check out the line of products from Vulk Audio! He’s a one man shop out of Scandinavia, and I’ve just ordered a pedal called the Glory Chord! So keen to try it out but he’s mentioned there’s not much interest in Australia yet, which I’d love to change! Thanks for the vid, loved it!
As far as Pedals go after seeing your Vid on the NUX Cerberus Pedal it’s become my GO TO. Everything in one works Great for me. The only down side that I’ve found is the Overdrive, there’s not quite enough of it. Thanks Shane.
Dude, I never knew you had demoed the Time Delay. I bought it blindly because there just weren't a lot of reviews out there. But wow it is seriously good. It has a far nicer tape delay sound than my Timeline and my DD8. It just nails that sound and when combined with the Electromatic (which you should buy by the way), I get a rocking Brian Setzer thing. Great pedal, you should definitely upload a review of that pedal.
It's been in about 30 videos this year as the delay on the amp. CTC makes some of the best pedals I've ever tried. I wanted to do re-do the video with some better playing coming up so I'll shoot a new review video of it early next year. :)
@@intheblues Nice, I look forward to hearing people's opinions. But yeah CTC does have some great stuff out there. I really dig the Stardust through the DSL40CR in the clean channel. There's not many pedals that can actually get a convincing 6L6 sound through EL34s but it somehow does it. You're right, those Greeks are making solid stuff these days.
How many Agro puppets can you make out of the amp silo. ;) Thanks Shane; for the brilliant content in 2020, thoroughly enjoyed it during lockdown when there was bugger all to do. Looking forward to seeing what you surprise us with in 2021 man.
My $270 guitar from Monoprice was perfect out of the box playability wise. It's their top of the line model and they send every one to a Professional Luthier in California to be set up when they arrive here, and before they go to the customer. The guitar in my avatar was a perfect example of that. Whoever did it was extremely talented and set my guitar up beautifully. It needed nothing, including strings. It came with D'addario strings on it! Zero high frets, as check with my feet checker. Ends rounded and polished. Bone nut cut perfectly. Stays in tune without question. Relief was almost 0. Action was exactly where I'd have set it myself. I couldn't believe it. Especially being $249 +tax USD. Unbelievable. So I just bought another one. This one has the sunburst finish and flame maple top. $249 again. I'm expecting this one to be just as incredible as my gold top. It's an Indio 66 DLX Plus from Monoprice. They're made by World Sound Music, who makes guitars for all sorts of companies. Dean. Harley Benton. J & D Guitars. Whatever the house brand is called at that one store in Germany. The Music Store? And some others. 👌
You obviously chose the Roland Blues Cube Stage over the Hot, but sound wise, do they sound that much different? Is the extra $ worth getting Stage over Hot? Do both of them do well with high gain distortion pedals?
I bought the Danelectro 64xt It has a single coil and a double lipstick humbucker with a split coil. I've played out a lot and loud through amps. It's a great guitar, and I've gotten many compliments on it. No problems at all with the pickups, they really sound good
I shy away from any gear that relies on a computer. Because you're always just one OS away, or one obsolete USB format, to having a once beloved doorstop. If the support goes away for any reason, you're screwed. So if you use it and love it...just don't get too attached to it. ...Remember the Commodore computers?
Just wanted to say I appreciate your videos. Even though I'm never going to buy this stuff, I always learn something from watching your reviews. Much better than all those 'comedy' double act guitar channels.
Aww bummer about the pedals, I love your pedal reviews especially on the less expensive stuff, no one else really covers it as well as you do. I bought so many pedals because of your reviews of them as I was skeptical about them, but they all turned out to be great.
IMO Thee most honest reviewer on YT too many don't want to upset the applecart ... PS When will someone do a review of Nik Huber's Orca 59 , Any chance of reviewing Spaceman Effects Pedals ...i've never seen done by the usual suspects
hi shane, happy new year from scotland, love the vids mate...,,...your purchase of your les paul...i personally think that you should not have to pay extra to fix a vital part of a guitar, especially at the purchase price, it should come in perfect condition. if you dont mind me asking shane, why didnt you e-mail andrew again and have this rectified???
Your Keizel guitar would be an awesome one to use if yo ever do any tutorial lessons on how to play guitar. The stark white finish allows the viewer to see what your picking hand's fingers and motions are doing in relation to the music being played.
RE: Treble bleed cap mod All the received wisdom about what value volume pots to use with what pickup type is true...UNTIL you roll the volume back. Higher value pots only reduce loading on the pickups when up full. The moment you turn down, you are inserting resistance *in series with* the pickup, which introduces loading. If you only turn your guitar's volume down because you think you hear the phone ringing, or you want to chat with a band-mate, then skip the treble-bleed and vaya con dios. But if you work your volume control at all when you play, you need a treble-bleed cap.
It's been a year that seems to have brought out the best and also the worst in people. The InTheBlues community all seem to be good people. That doesn't mean we see eye to eye on everything or even share the same political or religious views. But great to be able put all that aside and share our common ground of love of the guitar. That is way the world SHOULD be. To focus on our similarities, not our differences. In 2020 it has been reassuring to be able to come to sites like InTheBlues and see us all from all over the world getting along like we were old friends. Many thanks for that Shane. You are a great guy and you should take pride in the contribution you have made in helping us get through a tough year. Best wishes to all.
My tip; a 12AU7 in the V1 position of the AC-10 makes it even better, it makes it possible to set gain and volume at 12 o'clock and be at a more tolerable level. I have played an original 60's AC-10, and this mod gets it much closer to the original ;-) Merry Christmas to Y'all ;-)
Like the idea of the Missing Links. As I recall, Duane and Dickie both had (probably ‘61) SG pickups. For what it’s worth, I can attest to the ‘61 SG tone , and they’re even more Allman-y in a heavier Les Paul.
Hey Shane Happy Christmas any chance you could do a review of Supernatural Peter green pafs I’d like a independent view before shipping a set to the UK from Oz and I thought your down there
Hey sorry for the multiple comments but you should add some Analogman modded TSs I've had mine from when he first started and it's still going strong after 30 years and I keep coming back to after trying new stuff Thanks
Think you missed the best thing of 2020 which was the connection of the online music community. Whilst this year has near killed me, the connections that have come through guitar building and messing around playing are a revelation. There's some silver linings that have come from this year and strangely most are from connecting with others even whilst in LockDown. I guess everyone went searching, been some cool connections made. Take care brother. You and Ric have helped keep us sane 👍✌😎🙏
So completely well said! That attitude will get you very far or at least help when the going gets rough, And help you get to the next crest of the wave!

Stumbled on your channel and I love it...great, REAL comments too. Rock on bro from sunny Brisbane.
Actual links in the description, a real pro. Thanks for your channel, it’s gold!
love your end of the year rap-ups... thanks for all of your hard work... merry christmas
Got me a 2020 Gibson lefty tobacco burst satin tribute to help cope with 2020.
2 new guitars, 2 new amps, a Line 6 Pod Go (which is awesome), 8 new pedals. Since covid is still around, I need to start my list for 2021.
Thank you Sky Music & Shane ! You are great for the Blues Guitar Community 🎸. Thanks again and Blues On....💙 PS. Awesome video.
That amp silo reminds of the trick of placing a pencil in front of a vocal mic to stop 'plosives...similar idea! LOL!
Cheers.
Many many thanks Shane! Stay well, stay safe and all the best for next year.
Hey Shane! On that kiesel use a little lock tite to secure the jack plate holder in place
Great Shane - massive thank you to YOU too! Have a great 2021, you the best!
Happy New Year! Love your channel 🥳🎸🎼
Thanks again Shane for sharing more information about guitars and gadjetz 👍 God bless you and more Power to your channel
Thanks for the support Jaysom. All the best to you to mate.
Tx Shane for another great wrap up. Best wishes for 2021!
Great show Shane. I have really enjoyed watching you over the years. Thanks for the great content. Peace!
I am glad you are digging the guitar Nicolas, I love mine mate. Does yours also smell like vanilla? haha I always laugh when I open the case :)
@@intheblues Lol, yeah I know what you mean. Yes, the Gibson smell is great. There is something with Gibson that at the moment you open the case and have the smell, makes it such a great plus! I had a Gibson before that I sold, and I really missed that, and was also looking forward to that on this :)
By the way, have you ever tried a Suhr guitar?
That "Gibson smell" is the nitro finish - very addictive.
Yum.
Pretty much the whole year on one vid :) thanks for sharing Shane. Great content as always.
well done bud your review of the donner delay and chorus mini pedals was helpful i bought them for my amp1 fly rig,
Dude, I never knew you had demoed the Time Delay.
Love the channel Shane. I love the idea of having the 2 notes piece of kit, trouble is I’d have to sell a guitar to pay for it 😬
Shane, you are a f@cking legend. Merry Xmas to you and yours
I picked up a Joyo Jam Buddy based on your recommendation. It is an amazing device, especially at the price. As you said, it sounds great.
Great to have this on a Saturday to watch, thanks Shane
Thanks, Rafael. Hope you are well mate.
At last! I was kind of waiting for this one.
I usually release these on the 14th every year but I must be slipping in my old age haha.
You obviously chose the Roland Blues Cube Stage over the Hot, but sound wise, do they sound that much different? Is the extra $ worth getting Stage over Hot? Do both of them do well with high gain distortion pedals?
I bought the Danelectro 64xt
It has a single coil and a double lipstick humbucker with a split coil. I've played out a lot and loud through amps. It's a great guitar, and I've gotten many compliments on it.
No problems at all with the pickups, they really sound good
I've had 2013/2015/2016/2017 Gibsons and they were all fantastic biulds! Now i want that TV yellow!
Happy holidays Shane!! Your content is awesome! Greetings from Brazil.
Same to you! Thanks, Arthur. :)
hi shane, happy new year from scotland, love the vids mate...,,...your purchase of your les paul...i personally think that you should not have to pay extra to fix a vital part of a guitar, especially at the purchase price, it should come in perfect condition. if you dont mind me asking shane, why didnt you e-mail andrew again and have this rectified???
I also bought a Mustang III because of your review, and I LOVE that thing! I have both pedals, and that is all I carry most days......
Really enjoyed this. Have a subscribe. Best wishes from the republic of Yorkshire.
Great stuff, Shane. Between you, Burgs, and Chris Brooks, we have everything we need right here. All the best for 2021.
Thanks, Peter! :)
Thank you for all you do man. Happy Holidays!
Cheers, Shane and hope to visit Australia someday once we can fly again ;)
Been using the Graphtec Ratio locking tuners. They are sooo nice! I want them on all my guitars eventually.
Thanks for another great video
Happy Xmas mate
Your Keizel guitar would be an awesome one to use if yo ever do any tutorial lessons on how to play guitar. The stark white finish allows the viewer to see what your picking hand's fingers and motions are doing in relation to the music being played.
Great recap video Shane and happy holidays!
Good video sounds great audio sounds guitar 🎸 great show.
As always another great video ! Thank you again for all your hard work.
Great pickups and pedals! The pickup video is coming up shortly it's already scheduled. Great work I love the pickups.
RE: Treble bleed cap mod
All the received wisdom about what value volume pots to use with what pickup type is true...UNTIL you roll the volume back.
G'Day, Mate...
Does the Dano 59 NOS have the substandard lipstick hums?
Been looking at it for a little while now.
Thx....
Jimbo
I have played an original 60's AC-10, and this mod gets it much closer to the original ;-) Merry Christmas to Y'all ;-)
So glad ur doing good man.Keep up the good work.
Like the idea of the Missing Links. As I recall, Duane and Dickie both had (probably ‘61) SG pickups. For what it’s worth, I can attest to the ‘61 SG tone , and they’re even more Allman-y in a heavier Les Paul.
Have you tried stone locktite on the jack. A little bit might give you a enough lock to hold it down? Visit to bunnings should sort you out.
Well said mate. The lockdown sessions were a huge help for Ric and I as well. Rock on mate and all the best. :)
So completely well said! That attitude will get you very far or at least help when the going gets rough, And help you get to the next crest of the wave!
Use a little bit of Loctite thread locker on the nut retaining the input jack.
Thanks!
Love this video. Need this info since I am back into playing every day and haven't been shopping lately. Tks mate, cheers.
