I wonder if anyone saw him filming this and thought that he was crazy because he saw a giant hole in the ground...

I asked me the same xD
after learning to motion track:
*sees a high contrast object*
Dayum, dat tracking point
ignacio murillo LOL
It's camera tracking :D
Can you remake this for 2.8? I'm having a bit of trouble finding the commands.
Same Here
*YESSS*
yes please
you can download an older blender version as a zip file, then you can use multiple blender versions
CG Matter, Ian Hubert, CG Geek, and others. It's easy once you do it enough.
I love this! can you make for 2.8 and above tutorial?
I also would like this
@@InvalidSE2 the ui looks scary
@@ADEPS.not scary when you have used blender for a while, if you haven't already do the blender tutorial by blender guru
@@InvalidSE2 thank you
For anyone coming here from the future, watching this video first can give you a good overview for 2.8, then you can come back and watch this one for the details :)

Here in brazil, you don't need to use blender to get this result, the holes are natural :D
Great scene, I you will certain use the camera tracking
concordo kkkk
Now, you know how to fill them ! :-)
Indonesian too

An updated tutorial would be awesome
+emsiardy Its basically the same thing...
JBpiification Menu items are not in the same place. Some features have been deprecated. If this works for you then fine, but for me I could use an updated video.
True
+emsiardy that is the upset of blender you get used to one version and the next version has different menus and tabs, you try to recreate something from a tutorial and you get forever stuck.
An updated tutorial would be awesome
Am I the only person here to learn camera tracking, 10 years after uploading the video.?
no i am also watching
@@focusedstudent464 im watching too
😂😂😂.. Am with you
Me too
i honestly thought it was real, i thought you were going to animate some monster coming up out of it or something. But was shocked when the hole was not real. The texture looks very organic.
Cabin Porn :DDDD
I got "solve error: 0.109". I'm a very happy man now.
You mean "very happy" boy... right?
uhm..... I wrote "very happy"... ?
Spore Denstore wat i meant was are you not a "boy" and not a "man"
why did you put the very happy within the "" then?
Spore Denstore to quote you ""
What I learn from these tutorials is how much I overthink and how often I go the hard way around. When I first watched the clip I thought "Maybe he's tracking that cigarrette, and some grass... and maybe? .... hmmm". It never came to my head that the trackers could be where the hole is. :/
zerosonico, also that country loves their smokes. Well for sure the people on that block.
my solve error was 59.7............
mine was pretty high too
Mine was 93.6
delete tracks that move abnormally
Mine was .236
yeah that happens sometimes
even after a lot of practice sometimes i get numbers as high as yours
I forgot to set the frame to one and by the time I finished adding markers I realised it wasn't on 1. Aw that's painful!
Edit: Finally done it, oh! ARGHHHHH SOLVE ERROR 2.8
Edit: Again... WHAT 204!?!?! This is Madness
Edit: Getting better, 201 *Sarcasm*
Edit: Wait almost, 1.6
Edit: 1.4... *Heart is racing*
Edit: NOPE! back to 181 :P
Edit: I give up, 1.4 is good enough
Edit: *lies to himself* YES I got 1.1, for real this time
Edit: Iv'e done it! I may upload it on my channel once done rendering. Thanks Andrew Price :D
can you show the finished result please?
"Where is the tutorial? In the hole."
Anybody get that reference?
Ey
What?
It’s a tomska joke normie
26:00 What if I am using my mobile phone's camera? Please answer!
Very helpful tutorial... Thanks a lot..
But.. It's a bit old for now. A lot of new features have popped up in blender through this time.
My solve error is 1.96
Yup, you fooled me
Russian roads!
i was wondering why that hole looked pretty fake... it was made with blender internal
Too me I thought it was real XD
Allways criticizing. He could do one with better quality, but it would take much more hours to rendering just to doing a tuturial.
yeah
Can you make a tutorial for motion tracking andrew bro
You can use the META DATA from the jpg to see the focal length.
Smart
if i click on metadata nothing happens
@@spo0ds152 Meta data only shows it, if the camera you use records and safes it to the file. Smartphones usually don't do it
@@aim__freakz8499 oh i just looked at the info for the video and my phone does save the focal length. thanks for the tip!
@@spo0ds152 you welcome! My phone doesn't show it unfortunately. But I got a cheap 100€ phone that might be the reason^^
I'ved testet sooo much but....its bad.....I watched 10 milion videos but no good result.....please help....new tutorial? shorter? easy to understand? please (I know that is hard work but your nice! You can do that your great!)
I have already seen this tutorial long ago but I was new to blender at that time, but today I watched it again and found this tutorial as awesome. god bless andrew for sharing such wonderful tutorials
Small thing: The difference between previous frame and keyframe, is that keyframe will try to match when you started tracking. Previous frame will match the previous frame. If your thing doesn't change much you can get away with keyframe.
Can you please tell me how to render this scene in Cycles? I made a scene with one object and I put a plane for the shadows, and then I rendered that with Cycles. The plane was on the scene, I can remove it, but then the shadows are gone too. How can I make it invisible and keep only the shadows?
You will help me a lot by helping me to achieve that!
Can anyone else help me? Thanks!
I hope you already found out, but in case you didn't: turn on 'Shadow catcher' under object settings.
G I've been here since the beginning 🤣🤣🤣 imagine going back to old blender... also lots of love to you man you've helped a lot of aspiring 3d artists get to where they are now and still going!!!
When i render, the clip does not show up :'( any help?
mine doesn't either
oh! I just worked out how to do it- lower the factor on the first alpha over node in the compositor
@@Wolhellm six years too late my friend
@@qazzaaqq i know. I just said it for incase someone else had the problem. I'm suprised you replied though!
u are real guru, I can't even imagine to compete with you even after years with 3d
Is there a 2019 version of the video or is it the same
@Conley Dawson really? I tested this, don't work, now I use holdout shader for this
It didn't look real, everything was too "clean," since there would have been dirt and debris around and in it, if it was real. Also, a REAL sinkhole would be more fragmented. Oh, well...
Does the camera tracking work with cycles render?
4 years old comment but, yes!
For anyone who wants to get the source video today, here's a valid link: www.blenderguru.com/s/BlenderGuru_Tracking_SourceFiles.zip
I got an error of 56. I quit
Mine is 9823.79
i got 114...
this was very inspiring! Blender will be installed and played with as soon as I finish building my new PC in a few days.
Just for tracking, couldn't you set the video to black and white and crank the contrast way up, then use the regular footage for compositing?
I wonder
Yes, just import your special footage and replace it in the compositor later on.
I'm no expert so forgive me... but wouldn't that corrupt the tracking? Dark spots in one frame might suddenly become white in another when ambient light bouncing off an object hits the camera lens at the right angle.
Theory aside, why bother adding that extra step when you can already use the environment as a marker for tracking?
Brilliant! may work

Thanks for the sharing the file.
wow
This is by far the best Camera Tracking in Blender How To that I have ever seen. Awesome! I wish more people knew about and used this software. It has opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities in video and video editing. Thank you!
i did this and whenever i rendered the image it turned my text i tracked into a shadow!!! please help! the only thing that works is the cube that comes with the "setup scene"
probably a little late now, but try to move your object you want to have as a real object and not as a shadow to layer 1(the layer that has been set in the foreground tab). probably your text is at layer 2(the "shadow layer") at the moment.
Change the layers ;)
These tutorials could have been easily made premium, and trust me the sales would be pretty high!
your saying its pronounced kaSH (cache)
As a software dev it hurts me every time he says "kayshed". It's like in money: CASH.
He's good at Blender but not very bright.
Its not how we say it in Australia

Andrew, really. We need to talk. If you keep making these awesome tutorials that are useful and clear and easy to understand, I'm going to die of ingesting too much awesomeness! You need to be careful.

I remember when this came out. My intro to camera tracking.
Its fairly quick you say? tell that to me, with a 2gb computer XD you have 16gb
It's been 7 hours since the time I am just following the steps, but still I don't understand how to just show only the inside part of the pit. :(
Use a holdout shader to make it transparent.
even thou, you sound like a student...I think you should start teaching animation...all my blender help is from you....:)
i came from 2024
how do you add reflect the world on shiny objects?
Every time I try to track my scene, practically all of the trackers are INSIDE the camera when you view it in the 3D View. The scene is literally just a right to left pan, but I wanted to track to try and take the guess work out of getting the perspective and speed right. But my camera is pretty much moving at half the pan speed it needs to even though my camera solve is 0.185. This is incredibly frustrating as I've already redone the entire tracking multiple times at this point.
I wish you could simply transport your brain, into mine. that way i could make several million dollars. instead of the chump change I make.
after effect of 2012 but still alive
How do i set as background in the new version?
blimey... had me fooled! :-(
TIL you did this 6 years ago and it's been in Blender since the 2.60 series :-D will still watch to see what changed for 2.80 - for one thing, the solver seems much better, I'm sure you could get better tracking nowadays!
EDIT: Yeah in terms of UI it's pretty much the same thing, wow :-)
The tutorial is good, and I like how it turned out. But one thing that gives it away as a fake is the amount of 'blurring' in the video. The Hole is really sharp and clear but the video is a bit blurry. Is there a way to blur the render a bit so it matches?
I tracked my scene but in the latest blender version I can't seem to figure how to put the movie clip as the background and then insert something to see how well it looks in the scene
maybe you are in the perspective view mode, to see bkg image or clip you need to change it to ortgraphic view mode in "view"
Found out I had to view it thru my camera view (numpad 0)
FesliyanStudios ok good that you figure it out:) you can set in properties panel(to open hit N) axis:all views, not axis: camera so you can see it in every angle;) gl.
Adrian Sowiński Adrian, do you know why I can't add textures in cycles render mode? I go to the nodes view and click the "Add node" for texture, but it is all grayed out. :/
Yeah i know
all u can do is set it back to blender 1.69
thats wat im doing right now
blender 1.70 is cracked/messed up so u cant really use it
Wooooooooooooooo!
Hope i helped!
C YA!
At 35:36 or so, when I make the floor with my 3 points, my camera moves into position above the points looking down at them. I'm using Blender 2.7 What am I doing wrong?
same problem! please help!
My points are inside the camera WTF?!
Did some ungrateful Locust make that hole?
I made extremely complicated scene using this technique and then it crashed. I feel like kicking something. But thank you anyway Andrew!
😂 🙌. March 8th 2012! This shouts for an 2.80 update 😁
yesss
This seems to be a poor tutorial for me. I would like you to tell us what it can do and why to do camera tracking. I would like that.
thank you! 언제나 좋은 강좌 감사합니다.
My average error rate = 37.44 =(
my cube doesn't stay on floor, it moves together with the camera motion. Any suggestions how to fix it will be very appreciated.
Nice tutorial by the way. Thanks for that.
I can't find the specfications thingy for my ipad mini O_O
9 years ago, damn
Needs softened, your camera isn't that sharp.
Yes, this was my very first thought too. A good motion blur would improve the final vid much better than cycles render. Cheers!
thanks this really helped!
Well done andrew price. Now every troll with a decent computer is going to put tonnes of hoax videos on the internet. Thank you.
If I were you I would've used the cell fracture: crack it add-on for the cracks
cabinporn xD man you are soo funny m8 !
Amazing tutorials. Thank you , Andrew :)
when i click on the link to the video source your website tells me that it cant find the page im looking for. What shall i do?
Well... I uh, can't change my Memory Cache Limit to any more than 1024.... and I'm guessing that's why it's been taking about a half hour to track one point.
I did it! But my computer isn’t great. At all. It took me 4 hours of waiting for it to render a nine second clip
Who in the world would dislike this video? Some people are such jerks..
очень круто, но почему не наклеять яркие контрастные точки отслеживания на дорогу?
My computer can't hold cycles very well. can you explaind how to get realism with blender internal render on this version?
Nostalgia :' )
I didn't know that blender was 11 years old 😶
i think its more than 20.
Download the source video link dont work anymore :(

Does anyone know if this is possible in Blender 2.69? I´m using exactly the same trackerpoints and am following along as well as I can but my cube doesn´t move, it´s enormous(?) and the camerasolve is at best around 1.600. I don't understand what I can do more than following along exactly. Anyone else have the same problems?
Now i know all those ufo crap vids in youtube are fake...
The beginning... it was great, but the thought of what people might have thought made me cringe. lol
Thanks for the tutorial. Right now, i animate video games using SFM, and i want to switch to blender soon, so i can make higher quality videos.
I got an average solve error of 0.0000
um.. that shouldn't be possible right? I used a lot less points and they were not nearly as good as his... I even had one point that didn't track all the way through (it would get lost)

Cached or cache is pronounced kash'd or kash. its used to describe a temporary store for quicker retrieval. In this case cached video is stored in RAM to allow the user to rapidly scrub through cached footage in the timeline

I have beeen watching yr video for hours i have a problem! when i press the camera motion button all the points are put IN the 3D camera! plus when i switch to 3D view by default I see the cube not like u have it on yr video
Hi Andrew, could you please explain again about the keyframe_a and keyframe_b?
I'm trying to solve a tracking that I did, but it's not working very well, the depth it's wrong...
thank you man!
I think the reason we're having trouble is because his video is highly compressed. Just go and film your own little footage with an HD camera, good lighting, and good markers. It should work much better.
I like it but haven't tried it. TIP: Blender Is Much Much MUCH Cheaper Than BooJou
