Each episode is growing harder for me to watch as I know his time is ending his land lock home, but like a child graduating and going off to start a new journey, you’ll take us along with you. You’ve got me a hip replacement and walking once more, thank you Alex and Alan!
very excited to see him head into the water and start his adventures northward! have just purchased a celebratory laptop sticker in Alan's honor. am also doing a (significantly lower stakes) boat build over the next few weeks and have specifically been wondering how to implement a rudder; I appreciate the inspiration!
When I started watching this series I couldn’t sail. Now I have my day skipper and my own first yacht (which I’ve refurbished, painted etc and just put in the water). Hurry up Alex. (Only joking. You have been an inspiration. Love watching your series).
I know from experience that what they say about owning boats is true. One is that a boat is a hole in the water that you shovel money into, and the 2 happiest days in a boat owners life is the day he bought it and the day he sold it. With that being said I can't fathom how much you sunk into this project so I felt compelled to donate to your fuel fund and urge others to do the same.
I feel there is a little pause in the sentence at the beginning. "You will see me scrabbling around beneath Alan......the life boat". Made me LOL. Don't mean anything offensive to anyone . Keep up the good work. Best of luck
I like the parts without the narration, too. Would love it you made longer videos by combining or slowing down some of the work parts - external noises and all. :)
My boss once had me service and clean up a really fancy CAT backhoe for sale. I used Tar and glue remover all over the gel coat body panels. Right before my eyes it all cracked, like a shattered windscreen. He lost his head completely. I shxt myself 😂 It ended well though as he instead decided to employ me as his onsite joiner, project manager, fitter, fabrication extraordinaire. Ive never thought of it like that, actually it helped me get back to my trade i trained for.. then i fell off his roof and broke my leg... a good do if you ask me.
I would like to ask if You have a bilge pump or pumps .. I seem to miss that one in all of the episodes.. Anyway its looking amazing and almost ready for adventure 😊⚓️
Alan actually barely has a bilge. There's two tiny zones at the far bow and stern, and beneath the engine. I do have a number of 12V and hand pumps though.
Hi Alex. Enjoyed the video. Could I ask a question? I'm trying to work out a way of attaching lacing hooks to my fibreglass Lugger hull just to hold a dinghy tent down over the gunwales. Do you think the EP650 is up to the job? I know theres only one real way to find out but just wanted to see what you thought first.
I'm not familiar with EP650? If an adhesive, I'd be nervous about not using mechanical fixings for anything that's going to be 'yanked'. Perhaps save for something bonded across a large surface area with 5200 or a good epoxy.
@@AlexHibbertOriginals I had a good look online after last video but turned up nothing! What’s his model and manufacturer? I’ll see if I can track one down!
Will be interesting to see how quickly the shiny epoxy slimes over and then starts with small crusty creatures. From dingie experience I'll say 1 week until slime and 3 weeks until creatures adhered and causing drag
Just glad the package was received before the voyage started. American companies are so wasteful. Those things are $60.00 dollars US, and up, per connector. One companies trash is Alan's treasure.

This is the best bit of having a boat. Finally getting it in the water proper
When is it going somewhere? Did I miss a launch date somewhere?
"Goo Gone" works swimmingly on leftover sticky stuff from stickers.
I believe naphtha also works well, if I remember correctly
Drop of petrol. Nothing beats it
Oh glorious sanding!

Cheers, Alan. Enjoy.

Over the years I've become adept at doing a lot with a little, but yes it's not cost a fiver. Oh, and then the time...
Nearly there. Looking forward to the sea trials. 😊
Kick ass! Take my money

Greatings from 🇵🇱 I keep my fingers crossed for the success of your trip :)
Just found your channel - fascinating project & brilliant videos.
Cheers
Safe travels!
Thank you - great and exciting update.
Will you make a spare rudder for the main trip, just in case?
I don't think so. The prop guard provides steering, and the emergency outboards can steer.
I feel there is a little pause in the sentence at the beginning.

I can't fault that story
So close ❤
That color was called Armageddon and Grimaldus approves.
Why not use safety wire on some of those critical bolts?
Depending on the use, the nuts onboard have Nord-Locks or nyloc inserts.

I cycled past Alan in Benfleet Creek this morning - when are you leaving the Thames Estuary Riviera?
Trying to align diaries and commitments. Very soon I hope!

@@AlexHibbertOriginals Hi Alex, so sorry must have been going mad, I meant the JB Weld that you use in this video!!!
great video, have you ever in your travels came across a 3d model of alan? would love to 3d print him!
Not yet!

Those head bolts aft could use some hydrodynamic tips really
The keel cooler itself is more of a drag!
the paint job looks great. The colour difference looks minimal on youtube

Many, many boats don't use anti-foul. It'll depend on the frequency of cleans, water temperature and how near a sewerage outlet Alan is...
🤙

Appreciated!
@@AlexHibbertOriginals I want to know if they will help with improving Alan.
