I don't think it stacks. Your better off casting it at 2 different enemys. Also, since when can a wizard twin cast cantrips? I thoguht only sourcorers and some warlocks could do that.
@@nickm9102 But warlocks have vitually no spellslots, and eldrich blast is not worth selling your soul for. Expecially when firebolt or a heavy crossbow does the same amount of dammage and has the same range; althogh I admit force/immunity resistance is alot rarer than fire resistance/immunity.
Illusionist’ bracers does not require the cantrip to be cast with your action, but rather it says “Whenever you cast a cantrip”. That would make it work with Tasha’s Bladesinger’s Extra Attack, and would probably bump it up on your list.
It would be especially powerful if you have a bladesinger paladin multiclass and make one attack and two booming blade attacks with smite on all of them.
Will you be doing a list of artifacts & legendaries? Either for each class, or however you feel it would be best organized. Edit: another list concept would be top ten non attunement items.
Elven chain can be really good for wizards. Getting AC 14+Dex (up to +2) with no worries about armor proficiency is great. And it doesn’t require attunement like the bracers of defense.
the way it is worded it can only only absorb 50 levels. that's it it doesn't say it can only have 50 levels in it. if you absorb one lvl one spell every day and then use it that day once it absorbs that 50th spell it can no longer absorb any more even if it only has 1 spell level in it.
Cody McFarland Yes, I am well aware of that, however that does not make it a consumable. It’s closer to wands and staffs with charges. It only has different specifications as to how it regains “energy” and how it is no longer able to.
The downside is you can't then use bracers of defence and you can only add +2 from your dex. May not be worth it, especially compered to just getting a stack of Scrolls of Mage Armor.
@@Treblaine While you make a fair point, the big difference, at least in my opinion, is that it's either a one time purchase of EC or multiple purchases of a 1st lvl spell scroll. Also BoD is better suited for your monks and barbarians since they need as high an AC as possible

I believe either a subclass or the Class itself recieves the ability to ignore race class and level restrictions for Magic Item use. So some can at the right level.
Can loaded spellgems be saved between long rests? Also, can you put spellgems on a staff of adornment, and use it like a wand of whatever spell you put on the spellgems?
Spells known does NOT count for wizards. It’s been clarified before in passing in a Todd Talks I believe. But every group I’ve played with counts it as partner to spells prepared.
Super cool fact: you don't need to be attuned to a spell gem to cast the spell, just to cast a spell into the gem. Attune to it the day before and imbue whatever spell you may need, then have it ready the next day.
Well, with Mage Armor and Bracers of Defense you are at 15+ Dex. Then with Shield a temporary +5. AC could go all the way up to 22, but most likely 20, depends if you maxed your Dex or not. Most Wizards will Max Int and have a Dex of maximum 16 or if they are a High Elf or some other class with +Dex.
If you are looking to have high AC on most casters you want Staff of Power (+2), Robes of the Magi (base 15), and bracers of defense (+2) so AC 19 before DEX or any other fun things you can get. Plus you could ask the Cleric to Shield of Faith the frail, little wizard 😢.
Mage armor (base 13+immunity to magic missile) Bracers of defence (+2) Dodge bonus (+DexMod: ussually between -1 and +5) Staff of power (+2) Sheild (temporary +5 for 1 attack, at cost of a reaction and a lv1 spellslot.) AC=13+2+2+DexMod(+5 when using sheild) AC=17+DexMod TempAC=+5 Up to AC=22-27 if you max your dex. 27 is if you casting sheild, and 22 is if your not.
@@agsilverradio2225 Mage armor doesn't grant immunity to magic missle. That's shield you're thinking of. Plus shield lasts the until the start of your turn when you cast it.

I find that it is often nice to spec into one or two levels of fighter for the proficiency's and the abilities after all even with 1 levels in wizard you can still regenerate a 9th level spell slot per short rest and most of the high level abilities aren't super useful
Are you referring to Arcane Recovery? It specifically states you can recover spell slots equal to half your wizard level (rounded up) and you can't recover higher than a 5th level spell. So not sure how you'd recover a 9th level slot with 1 level in wizard. And to get a 5the level slot you'd need at least 10 levels in wizard.

ranged wizard. ;) There is a gish subclass that got a lot of love with Xanathar's that'd have a slightly different list of must haves.... (just consider how Tenser's Transformation plays with the fact that Bladesong & Song of Defense aren't spells... 50 temp hp and it works out to as much as 415 extra hp by burning spell slots to soak damage at level 20 while still hitting 25ac, though you'd be a fool to not also cast Foresight... me wants a scimitar of speed...)
It was a toss up, I landed on Wand of Magic Missile, but I could have gone Robe if Stars, I really do love it. I think I want to give it to one of my players actually...
@@NerdImmersion Honestly I feel robe is just miles ahead of wand (6 level 5 MM is pretty crazy, plus the escape when things get dicey ability in addition to the boost to saving throws all in one item).
With the rod I think it is the prepared spells for the wizard not the whole book. And the Ring of Spellstoring should be on everyone if you can get it. I have had DM raise encounter levels because the entire party had one. Druids and Rogues Hellish Rebuking, Warlocks with Spiritual Weapon and every melee having a BA Smite spell or 4. This = Bald DM
A party that has a variety of spell casters a ring of spell storage is amazing. We have just one but our paladin uses it by having me (sorcerer) mix in shield spells along with shield of faiths. Our paladin with plate and a +1 shield and cloak of protection has an ungodly AC and now can focus on smites only because of that ring.

My understanding is that the Rod of Absorption can only absorb 50 levels of spells ever. This means that it will not ever be able to absorb that 51st level of spell energy even if it isn't "full." Think of it as a battery that has a limit on the total times it can be charged, not as a constantly reusable battery. Once it has absorbed a total of 50 levels of spell energy, it can never absorb any more. That's my understanding anyway. Otherwise it would be too powerful: BEYOND Legendary.
I would argue that you can not use the rod to absorb a counterspell that you are the target of. If you read the text of counterspell. You attempt to interrupt a creature in the PROCESS of Casting a Spell. My argument would be that in order to use the rod, you would be using a reaction to absorb the counterspell. If you are (as the text reads in counterspell) in the process of casting a spell, meaning V,S how can you then do something else in the middle of casting a spell. It seems to me that using your reaction while in the process of casting a spell would mean that you have to stop casting that spell to use your reaction.

My argument for this would be that you're no longer casting the spell. The idea of counterspell is that a reaction is so split-second that you're stopping a 6 second action from taking place. With the quickness that a reaction is, there is no problem with a wizard using his/her reaction to stop the counterspell, because if they already see the counterspell taking place then their own spell has technically already ended. Thus, why counterspelling a counterspell makes sense
@Nerd Immersion.. Don't understand how a Spell Gem is so much better than a Ring of Spell Storing. It looks like the only differences are the max spell level and set spell DC and attack bonus.
Whatever spell cast into it can be cast out of it as an action and when cast out uses no components, so it cant be counterspelled. So spells like: Find Steed Prayer of Healing Leomund's Tiny Hut Geas Etc. Can be cast as an action, which makes them more useful
You can get spell gems that are only uncommon but only hold 1st level spells, so get them at much lower level than a rare magic item like Ring of Spell Storing. Also you only need to attune to them when casting a spell into them, you can de-attune and free up an attunement slot as you only need to have a spell gem on your person to cast a spell from it.
I would like an eduring spellbook for my divination wizard, because he is obsesed with both discovering and conserving imformation for future generations. Robe of usefull things would be good for my friend's cojeration wizard.
omg a wizard lvl 18 could take mirror image as their spell mastery l2 spell, cast if on themselves 50 times and power up the rod to max hahahaha if you go 18 wizard and 2 paladin you could have unlimited smites using shadow blade or something....
When I've done every other class, it's kind of hard to not have duplicates. But also, wizards are great and versatile, so they can do a lot without items
Sure damage is cool but have you considered double casting ray of frost and lowering the targets speed by 20?
The Warlock still does better, reduce by 20 and knock away 20-80

I'm surprised that Elven Chain wasn't on here since it is one of the few magic armors that gives the wearer proficiency with it
yeah, its basically permanent mage armor, with no attunement, it frees up a prepared spell and a lvl1 spell slot(not really that much)

Being a bladesinger also increases you ac equal to your int modifier when you bladesing. Up to +5 ac for 1 minute twice per short rest is nice.

An honorable mention would be the staff of defense. Increase to AC and you can cast mage armor and the shield spell for free
Yup, but the shield spell is for ation, not reaction so basically useless. And mage armor is 1 spell slot but if you have any armor, also useless.

I really don't consider the rod consumable. As long as you make sure you don't burn it out you can keep refilling and draining it.
