You are doing it right. My husband is President and CEO of five banks in Dallas. I was a minimalist and much less stressed until we moved to a high end neighborhood and then the pressure started. I found myself trying to catch up with the Jones. Then we bought the largest home in the area and I’ve always done remodeling since I was 23 years old. Therefore, I have beautiful things, a massive home, and much I don’t need! I’m 57 now, and I feel very overwhelmed and am trying to part with some things to simplify. My kids are grown and one of them has sold everything he owned and is traveling the world for a year. My husband has not excepted this at all and considers my son a failure. On the contrary, my son is very intelligent and this is an amazing opportunity and learning experience for him. We did not do public school but private. I absolutely agree with you on home schooling. The public schools in this country are horrible. Your children are healthy, happy, and having the chance to BE A KID. I see these young people now who have nothing to look forward to as adults because the are so indulged. It is creating a very sad and spoiled generation. Thank God for people like yourself. I’m hoping you and your new book will influence other young couples. You are a breath of fresh air. I do hope YOU WILL READ THIS! In my heart, I know, if we had not lived so extravagantly, my children would be far better for it today. I know you will not get caught up in all that, as you are a very right thinking person. Kerp doing what you are doing and you will be the envy of most. Congratulations on the wonderful land and Farmhouse. I could see myself doing this! I love to sew as well and am I lover of all things blue and white. I apologize for this lengthy message but do hope you will take the time to read this. Oh, and I’m extremely organized like yourself. I guess I would be a crazy person if I were not at least organized. Can’t wait to see your new kitchen and get your book. Sincere best wishes, Lisa Lowe, Dallas, TX.

I was homeschooled and went to public school. Homeschooling was BY FAR more efficient, more enjoyable, and prepared me more in life and time management. Public school was fun but I also dealt with some unnecessary insecurities and unhealthy friendships because of it.
I’m such a huge fan of homeschooling and will be home schooling all of my children! It’s so customizable and there is so much more learning you can incorporate!
    You’re such an inspiration!

I was raised in public school, but am a retired homeschool mama. Our son began public school, but we pulled him out before his 5th grade year because the school he was going to was so rough and I was DONE was having to deal with the constant harassment he got from the other kids and his inability to appropriately handle it plus all the calls I was getting from the teachers, etc. We joined an active homeschool support group in our area and we never looked back.

I was raised in a family of 10 and homeschooled. I definitely have a memory from high school of wanting to go to public school REALLY badly. And there were plenty of times I wished I didn't have so many siblings 😂 But as an adult (and especially as a mom) I'm so thankful for my unconventional upbringing! The sister I fought with the most growing up is now my best friend.

Having grown up a homeschool child from a family of seven children, I can attest that homeschooling was the best way to grow up. I do not regret being homeschooled one moment. My parents were always there for us. Also as far as education and socialization, we have grown up to be much more functional adults than most of our public school friends. Of course my parents were very involved at church and in our community, and we had no shortage of friends in the neighborhood who we played with after school. I don’t I feel like we missed out on anything. In fact from my observation we had a much better education, and opportunities, because of the setting of our homeschooling. We started college at 16 and had an associates degree by the time we graduated high school. Homeschooling, if you are willing to become a home teacher, is amazing. It’s not for everyone, but if you love to learn and to share that with your children it is a wonderful opportunity to create an even greater bond with your children.
Thank you Lisa for all you share on your channel, you have given me so many great ideas.

I totally get it...but you soooooo had a real adult job after graduating college.. being a wife and mother. There are no vacations, no sick time, no 15 minute breaks. It's 24/7-365...and it's awesome! it's not the choice I made but I so admire the women that do :)!

tracey jackson I appreciate this comment! It frustrates me that many feminists push the idea that women working outside the home like the man is somehow superior to at-home moms. True feminism should be elevating at-home moms to be EQUALLY important & valued as men who have full time jobs. As a SAHM who has worked from home too, I sometimes wish I could clock in to a job where I get paid, respected, promoted, & could clock out at night. It would be easier than being at home with my 6 little ones many days! Many moms don’t get the true value of being a SAHM (which is sad), yet our mothers do so much for society & the health & well-being of ALL children inside their homes & in their communities. It’s sad that so many don’t see the value in motherhood or feel like less of a woman because they choose to stay home & not be the main breadwinner. We should all love & support each other as mothers, regardless of our professional resume differences. We as women are so much more than that. Thank you to all the mothers who love & care for your loved ones & the children around you. I appreciate you all...job or not. 💗💗💗💗

John Piper is a favorite here as well! Thanks for sharing this. I love that you value motherhood and display so well living passionately and fulfilled as a mother. Something that breaks my heart about our current culture is the growing disregard for motherhood- like having children dumbs down your life- when nothing could be further from the truth! ☺️ When does the book release?

Being able to have the freedom to explore their gifts and talents, being curious and pursuing many different interests will help their confidence, and find their God given purpose. When I homeschooled my older 2 children we had lots of structure. Our youngest born 10 years after the older 2. Started homeschooling 6th grade thru 9th. She set her schedule had more freedom to excel on what she was interested in. Her passion was writing. She did her best work from 10 pm to around 1 am. She also read the whole syllabus for required reading for Jr high thru High school. Staying up all night.

I know that this is an old video, but I so relate to your feelings on jewelry! I love it that you embrace it and don't worry about wearing a "fake" ring. I sometimes feel self conscious of mine (also fake and very cheap), knowing that others take the price of engagement and wedding rings so seriously. This is really refreshing. My husband recently bought me a real gold ring with real emeralds, and I'm always so nervous about losing or damaging it!

I was homeschooled for most of my school life, but I also attended a small public charter school for middle school, and another for parts of high school. There were even times when I was hybrid (homeschool for most classes but also enrolled in several outside courses including one at my high school -- they allowed me to take just one class there, and it was awesome!). My parents revisited the choice with us every year and allowed us the freedom to continue homeschool or attend outside classes, depending on our comfort level and also based on whether we needed supplementary assistance.
For example, I always needed extra help with math -- it did not come easily to me but it's a necessary subject to learn. So when my parents realized that our homeschooling wasn't sufficient for my learning style in that particular subject, they tried other options. We got me a tutor for a couple years, and I also took math classes at the high school even while being homeschooled.
I really REALLY appreciate the approach they took where it didn't have to be ONLY homeschool or ONLY public school. We always had a choice, and I still consider myself a homeschool kid since that was my predominant experience throughout. I had no trouble acclimating between the two "worlds" because I was raised with a loving foundation and had a great support system (family relationships, friends from church, and friends from my homeschool co-op) to rely upon which made it MUCH easier to handle the ups and downs of the public school social scene. 😜 I always had a sense that there was much more to life beyond just the nuclear popularity contest -- and even that wasn't too extreme in the smaller schools my parents chose.
Homeschooling gave me countless incredible advantages for life, one of the greatest being my ability to teach myself anything I want to learn. And spending all those years at home with family gave me such deeper and closer relationships with all my siblings than what I typically see from friends who grew up divided into ages/grades for most of their growing up years. I couldn't be more grateful for all the benefits that this arrangement provided.
I definitely went through a short phase in my teen years where I was convinced that my family was "dysfunctional" and a bit too awkwardly weird and counter-culture, haha! But like you said, Lisa, we all go through that and it was very short-lived for me. I find it amusing, looking back. My family is very close to this day and not a one of my siblings regrets all that homeschooling and family time we got to enjoy.
I plan to implement the same approach with my own children: strong preference for homeschooling but with an open mind towards a need or desire for public school experiences, especially in the higher grades which are harder to teach and learn. I personally feel that if someone is planning to homeschool for awhile but not the whole school career, it would preferable to do the homeschooling on the earlier side, while they're still younger and really benefit from a home environment for learning. As they get older, they will retain that early foundation even while entering the "outside world" of school. Also, just to be clear, we did not "stay home" the entire time! We went on very frequent field trips and also got to watch our parents handle everyday life experiences such as purchasing a new vehicle or planning and preparing a meal. We also stayed involved in several strong social circles (including the homeschool group I mentioned and the church family). Overall, I believe our experience was priceless and made us who we are today. I hope my "Homeschool Testimony" will encourage you, Lisa, as well as anyone else interested enough to read this long-winded comment of mine. 😄 I don't think homeschool is the "only way", but I definitely believe it's one of the best ways. Basic essence of my approach is that you customize it for each child, each year, and make sure it's always what will meet their needs best. And it definitely sounds like you do that, which makes me very happy! I loved homeschooling and highly recommend it, provided that everyone involved is up for the task and benefiting from the process. It's wonderful. ❤️

Wow beautifully said ! I’m so happy I came across your channel dear sister. Yes exactly the only thing that matters in this life is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God bless you for coming out of Roman Catholicism. As I came from an Irish Catholic family myself, I have come out of darkness and into the marvelous light simply by surrendering my life to Jesus not a church, or a pastor, or a Pope; but simply to Jesus Himself. I read His word daily and obey what it says.
I praise Him everyday for changing my nature and lifting all my addictions and burdens. He is the true and LIVING God May all people come to know Him in SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH, before it’s too late.

On traveling with so many children, Jordan Page from Fun Cheap or Free, here on UA-cam, has a video about cheap traveling with kids. I used one of the websites she recommends and got a plane ticket to Nashville for 1/2 of the price I had checked on earlier. It was AWESOME! :)

I’m with you about the diamond wedding ring thing. I’ve never cared about having a big rock sticking up on my finger since I’m constantly working with my hands. So I wear a nice wide sterling silver band and that’s it. I love other pieces of jewelry but can;t bring myself to spend money on expensive pieces. I love making my own most of all.

Love your honesty and for being real,,,,,,
We also homeschooled our 3 youngest and we don't regret homeschooling at all.
Our children saw for themselves the benefits of homeschooling!
We did however send our oldest to a small Christian school, and I dont regret that either because he was 11 years old b4 we were blessed with more children, so he enjoyed the time spent interacting with his school friends.
I feel that was important for him ,and he loved school !
Now he is married and has 3 children and they plan to homeschool!🙂
God bless you and your growing family!

I commend you for your parenting style. Everything from your choice of education to not catering to a child's picky eating. It's very 70's style and much needs a comeback. Also, would love for you to share more about your faith, though personal, it's so important and helpful for others. I understand the not wearing jewelry too. It's one more thing to take on and off. You are super cool. ❤️✌🏼️ Happy Mother's Day!!!

I know this video is older but it’s just so nice to hear other moms talking about homeschooling. I never thought in a million years I would be the type of parent who could homeschool my kids, but with the help of one of my friends I’ve started because of the last two years. Even if none of that happened I believe I would’ve ended up homeschooling anyway because of what young children are being taught in school now. My daughter is in fourth grade and could hardly read at the beginning of the year, she refused to work with the teachers at school but as long as we continue to do language arts all summer while I’m on maternity leave she will be at a fifth grade reading level like she supposed to this year. I have prayed so much that we could find a way to catch her up and that answer to o ur prayers was homeschooling. Thank you for being such an encouragement for other parents.❤️❤️

My husband was homeschooled and I went to public school. He loved being homeschooled and is so grateful to his parents. After talking to him and his siblings and comparing our schooling experiences I have to say I'm pretty envious lol. I honestly can't see any negatives of it to be honest.
You get all your work done in a few hours and have so much freedom to play
You don't deal with mean teachers/bullying like I did
Less stress and learning is more fun (School was always extremely stressful for me. I remember having anxiety attacks even in elementary school).
You can get as much or as little socialization as your family desires. My husband was super involved in church/sports/co-ops/tons of fieldtrips with other homeschool families. (He honestly got just as much if not more more socialization than I did)
We will definitely be homeschooling our children!

Great as always! Always love your content. I just had a baby in Feb with CHM (Christian healthcare ministries), I am not sure if this is who you are with, but I only ended up paying $500 for our home birth, this included all prenatal visits, labwork, and ultrasounds, plus a visit to the hospital due to early contractions. This was my 5th home birth and the first time with CHM... Least amount I have ever paid....,.btw, Happy Mother's Day!

I get your stance on jewelry. I rarely wear any & when my husband & I got married, I insisted on a small white gold band with a CZ Stone. I wear it when I go out in public, but that’s the only time & only piece I wear. My ears are pierced, but I’ve not worn earrings in almost 10 yrs. I don’t even wear makeup that often anymore, though I do try to eat well & stay in shape for health reasons.
