    Keyboard shortcuts in Mastercam can help speed up your workflow. This shortcut also lets you to take advantage of a setting most don't use, the Snap to Views in Dynamic Rotation.
    That's a bit of a mouthful, but in short what this function allows you to do is easily snap into a view of a plane by just rotating the view close to that plane. So if you were rotating your part and it was just slightly off of the Top view, with this setting enabled, Mastercam would take your close view and automatically snap it to the exact view of the Top plane.
    Typically, this setting is turned on in the Configuration. Under the Screen-View menu item is the check box to turn this on. Once enabled, you also gain access to a setting that controls how close you have to be to a plane for Mastercam to snap to it. You can set this value between 0.5 degrees and 45 degrees, while 25 degrees is the default setting. There is also a setting below this, Motion Controller Velocity. This setting controls how fast you have to move the part to have it unsnap from the plane. Values between 0 and 1 are allowed with 0.3 being the default.
    Now, as nice as it is for your views to snap to a plane, it can be annoying if you are trying to skew the part slightly and you are near a plane, as Mastercam will snap when you really don't want it to. So, with this downfall, most leave this setting turned off. But, there is a way to use Snap to Plane without enabling it in the Configuration.
    Now comes this secret keyboard shortcut. With Snap turned off in Config, you can temporarily enable snapping by holding down the S key while rotating. This gives you the same behavior as if the setting was enabled, but only while holding down S. Keep in mind clicking S alone will not make it snap, you have to hold down S while rotating.

    Feels too 'finicky' using the S key + camera movement compared to just using the alt 1~7 keys. Weird how mastercam just doesn't have a "normal to face" operation.

    Interesting to see the comments. Good tip. My template has 4 planes for EVERY face of the cube. Thats a total of 16 planes to make Mastercam behave like ZBrush. Again i would like to see this behavior for free without having to man handle Mastercam to do this. I hope and pray it will be coded in eventually.

      All we can do is make suggestions to CNC Software. Pretty sure their list is long but like they say, squeaky wheel...
      And thanks for the idea for the video!

      @@CamInstructor i feel like with every mastercam release we find new bugs that really shouldnt be hard to find. Stuff that even mastercam cant explain why it happens.
      Ik its a rather cheap software and good for simple constructions and milling but it can be so annoying...
      Thanks for the vid tho :)

      @@D3nn1s There isn't one piece of software out there that doesn't have bugs. Sure, its frustrating when a bug directly effects your workflow but I promise, the developers at Mastercam don't break things on purpose :)
      If you find something broken, let them know. They will fix it.

      @@CamInstructor yeah sure i get that and im sure theyre busy, yet none of our feedback has made a difference yet as far as im aware.
      Other cad/cams ive used like fusion and solidworks are not even close to the amount of randomness and buggyness of mastercam. Tho admittedly theyre backed by larger companies and mastercam is a pretty easy program to get into.

    So next pesky little inconsistency... when choosing a wire frame colour the whole solid changes colour??? Wt. thats not right. HOW can i choose a wire frame colour and how can i choose a solid model colour? Without one disturbing the other?

    • @CamInstructor
      @CamInstructor  3 роки тому

      If you want to change the wireframe color of existing wireframe, make sure you do not select any solids when doing so. Same for solids, no wireframe selected. I'd suggest using a quick mask or something else so you only have the type of entity selected that you want to change the color of. If you select both, the color selection in either wireframe icon or solids icons will change the color of both.
