  • Hello. Greetings from Boonary. In today's topic of bizarre news, we will see "Thailand's railway market". A train passing right through the middle of the market where you will find vendors selling on its either sides. Unusual isn't it? Wanna know more? Then watch ahead.
In the country of Thailand is a place called Bangkok, that is the capital city. About 60 kms away from this place is a market that's called the Maeklong Railway Market. This market is famous all over the world. Why? Because it has a train running right through the middle of it. Now that's why this market is unique. Right down the middle of the market and close enough to those standing on its adjacent sides. This market has stalls of meat, seafood, veggies, fruits, as well as flower shops and one can also get clothing here. A lot of tourists visit this place, not just because they want to shop but also to see how the train passes right through the middle of the crowd. Wanna know more about it? Take a look.
A little while before the train arrives, just around 3 minutes, a warning bell goes off over the speaker system and the announcement is made. Immediately the vendors pull back all their stuff and their specially designed awnings before the train comes. That’s why the market in their local language is also known by this (ตลาดร่มหุบ) name, which means “Market Umbrella Close" and is literally translated locally as the Talat Rom Hoop. The train’s horn announces its arrival just as it reaches closer. The train passes by and to the sides are the vendors. Once the train passes, the vendors immediately put the awnings back into their original places and get back to work. If you want to visit this place, what are some preparation tips? Take a look.
This place is usually very hot and people walk on the rail tracks. So it's like a single lane and it's crowded. Hence, it would be a good idea to carry some water and a fan with you. If you want to see the train pass through, check the train timings. Arrive early at least 10 to 15 minutes before because if you reach there late and miss by just a few minutes, you might have to wait for another hour and simply get your time wasted. As an alternative, you might also prefer travelling by the train than watching it pass by. Watching the vendors on either sides of the tracks is also an interesting sight to watch. This market experience while watching the train pass by right through the middle would indeed be a different experience altogether.
Short video clip source : Great big story.
