The game is actually based on the ketamine trips of the some crazy scientist, who worked with dolphins. His surname was Lilly. This is not a joke, that’s why the plot is insane 😅

this game has some of the most gorgeous pixel art. Could use any screencap as a desktop

You are so very right about this! I don't think this series got enough credit at the time for being gorgeous to look at, especially when they transitioned into the Dreamcast reboot. It gave their artists an incredible canvas full of colors and things we've never seen in games before. And when it comes down to it, I think that's why I loved Sega in the 16-bit era. They were in a spot where they were willing to try just about anything, even if that meant a mostly-serious dolphin simulator that involves aliens and time travel. How do you even pitch that idea? I love that they gave us something that was unlike anything else on 16-bit consoles at the time.

Ecco is a brilliant game, and it makes me feel so afraid.. specially the dreamcast game.

This game is awesome. The storyline is unique and the music on both the Genesis and Sega cd versions are great. The only thing that kills it is the difficulty, it throws people off including myself.

This and Vectorman were my go to Genesis games when I was a kid.

Loved Vectorman! I sure do wish those games had better endings so I could cover them here, but I recall those having awful conclusions.

It has nothing to do with taking a vacation or something like that, but Mega Man 4 always reminds me of the summer vacation between 4th and 5th grade, summer 92. I had borrowed it from a friend and my brother and I played the heck out of that game.
Oddly enuf, it also reminds me of how when I was a kid I was deathly afraid of tornadoes. One day when we where playing MM4, we had a super outbreak of tornadoes. In fact, that summer seemed chock full of em.
So, whenever I play it with my bro we talk about that summer vaca.

This was interesting. I prayed some of this game years ago, and its sequel, but never got that far. I didn’t realize the story becomes that batshit insane later and you fight a scary big alien.

Uh... I never been on a vacation. I mean I have had time off sure but I never been on a vacation not even when I was little. Soooo uh...yeah... How was your vacation feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the new year?

    • @DefunctGames
      @DefunctGames  5 років тому

I had an incredibly relaxing and refreshing vacation, thanks for asking. I realized while at the beach that this is the first time in well over a decade that I've gone somewhere that wasn't work-related. Thinking back, it seems like every "vacation" I took was somehow wrapped into work, such as going to E3 and other gaming events. I wasn't just there to relax, and that's something I desperately needed. As somebody who works at home, it's easy to just be working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and that isn't healthy. I didn't know it at the time, but I definitely needed to get away and just disconnect from everything. I wasn't checking my email, keeping up with work and playing games, but rather spending the days watching the waves roll in and dogs play in the sand. It's everything I needed.
      Vacations. I recommend them.

oh well glad to hear it yeah it is important to just get away once in awhile, granted i have never really had a vacation myself but not working from home once i am off work im off work so yeah i do have the benefit of getting away. but yeah it sounds like you had a great relaxing time and that it was well over do. i should try and vacation one day but i dont even know where i would go, being aqua phobic things like a cruses or a beach are out of the question. closes thing i have had was summer vacation from school where i would just sit around all day playing wave race 64.

@@filialuvssquigly7447 wait a sec... You are a afraid of the ocean yet u spent a summer playing a game where you ride water motorcycles on the...OCEAN! I'm just playing, I hope I didnt come across as a jerk or being mean. I just read ur comment and found that part weird.☺

@@jamergamer0076 lol naw it's all in good fun. And to be fair as great as the water in wave race 64 looks it did not look to real. Water segments in games these days give me anxiety and mini panic attacks that I have to deal with every time I play them.

My only question about this game is about the vortex queen like is it an alien and where did it come from

  • @Jeremo-FD

I have an overly contrived theory that the story of the second game contains a falsehood about the time travel. I think the asterite is just wrong when it tells Ecco that the timeline is split. The first game pretty clearly shows Ecco traveling without changing history. The asterite is already missing its globe before ecco travels the first time, indicating a closed loop.
I also think the second time he travels, Ecco is once again completing a closed loop. Which would mean, at the beginning of the game when Ecco avoids the vortex, theres already a future Ecco getting sucked up & when you travel back to be sucked up with your pod, past Ecco is also there, avoiding the succ swirl.
In the second game, i believe that the "good future" is the actual future and the "dark future" is a just a completely separate parallel universe & not an alternate future. The Vortex queen somehow had access to a parallel world where earth was conquered & stashed the last asterite globe there as the best spot to hide/protect it. But she couldn't stay there permanently since there was presumably another vortex queen ruling it.
Idk if, under these hypothetical conditions, the asterite would have been lying to Ecco about the split or just simply mistaken.

Saw a Let's Play of Echo from Dena aka CyborCat, so I did know how it ended, but was still nice to see. As for your question, can't think of any that reminds me of being on vacation, but a game that might be best to play while on vacation I'll say is Sims. At least for me, since I get so much into it, I lose track of time. 😉😂

Need to play through this again. Only got one play through in on that sega cd disc with the four games on it.
Since I like hiking and nature games that remind me of being on vacations stuff like MGSV (the Afghanistan map) and Lost in Blue.
