Ecco on Dreamcast took me a solid six months to beat. Ive tried since and never been able to get through it again. I speedrun the first Ecco, but this one was huge and brutal.

I discovered this game as a kid waaay late in like 2012. Saved up to buy my own ps2 and the game and never could beat it. I had to use cheats to see all the levels lol, but I was obsessed with this game. It's so weird, kinda scary, the lore is interesting and I just love dolphins. There's no other game like it. I'm so sad they never got the chance to make another one. An Ecco with today's graphics and overall technical improvements would be amazing and terrifying. I'm replaying through it now and it's still fun, and I've actually made it over halfway through (with help from a walkthrough cus oml this game is still hard even as an adult)

If you have a chance to get your hands on the game guide, it's a nice handy tool to have with maps for the levels (with the exception of Hanging Waters later in the game).
Glad to see Ecco get some love.

Also, the raw emotion, insight, and frustration of attempting to accomplish any task or subdue any adversary, overall views on the presentation = (*chef's kiss*) the perfect formula for a flawless review, and then some!

I have the perfect guide to it. I still use it every time I play it. Fun fact- there is a sequel to it called "Ecco: Sentinels Of The Universe." However, it got scrapped after a few levels were produced. Basically, you can download a demo of it.

    • @JanelleWaz
      @JanelleWaz 4 місяці тому +1

Yep! I've played through the demo. You can glitch into certain areas and see more of the map, but if you die, the game basically freezes.

I got this game back on Dreamcast around Christmas 2000. I feel mostly the same about the game as she does: needed a guide for perpetual fluidity, loved the graphics, loved most of the game in general except for a few cryptic things you had to do, such as some of the convoluted puzzles.
I recently found out that there was a sequel in development, but by that point, Dreamcast had run its course and Sega didn't continue developing it for other systems. Personally, while I liked the game, I do wish there was a sequel to Tides of Time, which ended on an unsatisfying cliffhanger that never got resolved

I grew up with this game! It has a few rough edges, but I also love it for the reasons you mentioned, and also the fantastic soundtrack.
Did you know that there was going to be a sequel for this game called "Ecco II: Sentinels of the Universe"? Sadly it got canned when the Dreamcast went under, but there is some footage of the unfinished game out there. Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/EShMZlIPuP8/v-deo.htmlsi=Q61eQJcCjQft132a

Yay! Someone else knows about this game!
I did know about the sequel, and I've even gone through a prototype of it on an emulator. It didn't have all the levels that are in the video and parts of it weren't exactly stable, but it was still great to play through it. It was like playing a new/old Ecco game!

@@JanelleWaz Nice! I haven't actually played the demo myself, but I'd like to at some point. The video seems to have originally-made music which I'm glad was preserved. I just played through Abzu recently (highly recommended!), and it got me thinking about how a sequel (or remaster, or spiritual successor) of this game might look and feel in 2024. If only! I think DOTF is the last of its kind really - more recent aquatic games don't really scratch the same itch. Would love to see a studio pick up this concept again!

Not fully accurate. The old shows are still worth the watch. And Christopher Eccelston doesn’t get the fair shake his time deserves.

@@chainsawsubtlety9828 Most everyone's THE Doctor is the one they were introduced on. Tom Baker / Peter Davison for my intro to the world. And to be clear Nu Whu is anything from 2005 to the present. So not all an abomination, but when the show became more fairy tale than sci fi it lost me. The current run over the last 6 years or so; yeah that got a one episode watch and than I was out. Not a fan of shows that tries to tell you "what" to think as opposed to giving a different perspective to consider.
Capaldi was a great doctor, his time was hamstrung by Moffatt's head cannon love affair with Jenna Coleman and turning the focus away from the title character. The second Capaldi companion could have been good if they had eased up on the message she was always on about. And not I'm not dragging that community, I'm just saying that Bill Potts was defined by a single aspect of her personality that had very little and in most episodes "nothing" to do with the story being told. A one note companion is always a drag on the show.

And, FWIW, my "introductory Doctor" was Eccleston. I just happen to like Tennant better. He's been good in everything in which I've ever seen him.
Capaldi's 'Zygon Inversion' speech was a high point in the series, for me.
