It's always great to watch the moments when Sohyang takes reactors' breath away, especially from someone like you who knows how difficult and what kind of dedication singers must go through to reach Sohyang's level. There are videos of Sohyang's earlier years where we can see just how far Sohyang had progressed, technique wise. She's not just all about techniques either, as you felt yourself with this videos. She's so highly emotive in fact, I often advised reactors to bring tissue when I made recommendations to some of her performances, just in case. 😁 It all fits what Sohyang said recently about although there are singers who may not have good techniques, they are still great singers because of the way they communicate or tell their stories. For Sohyang, her main communication/message is to comfort or give solace, although she can and does sing varieties of genres.

Arirang Alone (Korean folk song about reuniting Korean ppl and their spirit, absolutely amazing), Everyone (this is unbelievable), Dream (these 2 are her original songs, one of Dream's performances has her highest recorded mixed belt which is C#6), Fate (pain, sadness, hope, everything...), I have nothing (cover of Whitney Houston), Lean on me (Michael Bolton was there and was crazy about it), O holy night (which is different from others), You raise me up (Shane Filan was amazed as everyone else), It's only my world (raspy rock vocals, which is very rare to hear from her), As i live, all King of Masked Singer performances where she sings with a mask on, they are the gem in my opinion - Dear Love (this just explodes your heart), Mona Lisa (absolutely insane rock cover of Guckkasten 2012 version of Mona Lisa), Home (my favourite, she takes you to heaven straight away), Breathe, Hug me (this makes you cry every single time), also there are other live versions of this from 2018 which are arguably even better Day Day (rap/hip-hop!), some other stuff like I can only Imagine, of course My heart will go on (trio of Mariah, Whitney and Celine are her favourite singers), Fate, Wind song, The beauty and the beast, Childhood dream, Running to the sky, Only one thing, Let it go (main song from Frozen), some other songs which i don't remember right away and the list is already reeeeally big anyway I'm quite jealous for everyone who has the opportunity to listen to her for the first time, it's an amazing experience for sure :) Also some facts about Sohyang :) She is cancer survivor and therefore cant have kids and is very vulnerable to diseases, She is devouted to God and sings for God, and God was her first love even before she was diagnosed with cancer (many people mistakenly think otherwise), She listened to Music Box for more than 1000 times and uses Mariah Carey songs as a warm-up(!), She rehearses her new songs for an insane amount of times, more than 100 tries at least, Despite that she is very nervous before all her big stage performances, She finds high belting really tiresome, She refused label contracts and sings mostly in churches or for charity and on special occasions, She is very humble and down to earth person which doesnt look for fame and money, She has published 2 (or 3, i'm not sure) novels and she is really good cartoonist which was her childhood passion, She gave lectures in Korean university about singing and song arrangements and how to fit a certain style, Her Arirang song was used by Korean Skate Dancers at the last Olimpic Games and they met Sohyang after the performances in a church :) And many many more... Wanna watch her vocal masterpiece? It's "Everyone". It's in Korean but there are subtitles. She still gives the gospel feel in this performance. She even said thai it's her most difficult song. It's amazing! I definitely recommend.

It's an iconic performance to me and I have listened to it (along with numerous reaction videos) hundreds of times, yet each time her voice shakes me up. While many voice coaches talked about her technique like control, placement, belting and transition, I have to give you kudos for pointing out how Sohyang uses backphrasing to enhance the emotional context of her performance, also how she internalizes the feelings of the music in her delivery. I appreciate your observation on how Sohyang interprets the music through her voice. Great singers abound but I rarely (ever?) see anyone else who can touch my heart Sohyang does. You just gave me some insight on how she went about that. Hope to see you visit Sohyang again. She has many masterful performances available on the web. Once again I have to tip my hat to the production of the show....something that none seriously paid attention to it, but...the band, the choir...sound and light engineering did totally eser job and helped her to give her very best in here!!! Bridge Over Trouble Water is indeed an epic song, one that I love very much. While saying that, I don't think it is in my list of top 10 SoHyang's songs. She simply has too many great songs for me to select from. The best for me are those from King of Mask Singer series and recently, I enjoyed very much her little sigh in The Day Sunlight Kissed Me.

I would suggest checking out her cover of Everyone. It's an old Korean pop song from the 60's, and if I recall correctly (I can't seem to find where I first read this) the original was written by the original singer's brother, and is about essentially the relationship between singer an audience. The lyrics speak of how the singer gives the audience a voice and holds them up during hard times, but that the same goes for how the audience supports the singer through the difficult times in their own life. Sohyang's cover is incredible, and she has gone on record saying that that song was the most difficult performance to prepare for, technically speaking.
She speaks fluent English. She sings most anything, but her main genre is CCM, Contemporary Christian Music. She has been in church all her life. Hard to believe but not many Christians in Korea. Still many in her own country who have never seen or heard of her before.

Completely destroyed the whole mood of the song, sometimes because you can belt doesn't mean you should, like those National Anthem singers that add a hundred belts and rhythm changes, it's like hearing a completely different song.
Did you skip the first two minutes of the song? So Hyang gave everything you need in an epic performance. Nobody wants to hear the same melody for the entire song.
She often says, "It's not I but God that sings inside me." I think this is why I feel something indescribable when I hear her sing songs.
