Erin, you are so much fun to watch! You have a great attitude toward gardening and make me chuckle with your additional notes you put up on the video when editing. I love that you don't take anything too seriously. I really enjoy learning from you and also appreciate that you are frugal. I love to garden but I have 3 kids to put through college so I have to be realistic in what I spend. I want it to look good but not break the bank. That's why i loved the Christmas tree tip! So smart!
Slanted Pot definitely Not designed by a Gardener 😁 I watch Laura too, that's how I found you. I actually live in Eastern Iowa just a few hours from you. We are having terrible winds today. Laura forages for her greens. I can't do that, so I LOVE the idea of buying a inexpensive Christmas tree. Never thought of that, thanks for the tip. Love your videos.

I love putting winter pots together. Mine are similar to yours. This year I filled my orbs with pine cones.

She did, but you inspire too. Yes! Juniper causes me a rash, but then so does the latex glove. :)
Fill up your deep container with bottles and milk cartons from your recycle bin. You won’t need to put as much dirt in. Junipers give me a rash , too. Love the red twigs!

For the lights, I use little fairly lights all over the place. They are battery operated, and I can shut them off with a little remote without having to go all the way outside when it's too cold. What I like about them is they don't increase my power bill, and I can still enjoy the twinkling lights. Some of the fairy lights also have built in 4 and 6 hour timers. I have one set of those and will get more of them next year.

Buying a tree on the cheap is BRILLIANT!!! I have no idea why I never thought of that. You just saved me a tidy little sum! Your taller pot just seems a tad more contemporary than other things in your garden. I like it and what you did worked but it seems out of pace a little bit. I am sure in summer with all the glorious things growing around it it fits in fine. Never noticed it until it stood on its on.
You’re totally right: it’s all wrong in a bunch of different ways. Guess I have some shopping to do!

I like and I've been jamming pots too. If you have a birdbath like I do that can be jammed. Thank you simple and pretty to look at all winter.
Great idea on the bird bath, I was looking at them and wondering if I can do something with them. Some people just turn the top over for the winter and I did not want to do that.
@@myracamilo7826 Thank you. i fill them with a little dirt and moss and push some evergreen branches in horizontal and and a few upright. i sometimes add a few fake birds and some red berry branches. Merry Christmas to you

Love the orbs. I want one. Love watching people do winter planters. I try to challenge myself and not spend any money decorating mine. I use everything I grow. However this year I added some bulbs and ribbon from Walmart.

When I saw the second pot, I thought the black lip was a design in the pot. I thought it looked cool, but it does present a problem with the soil! :) Discovered your videos not long ago and enjoying them a lot.

You are so right! You do not need to be gifted to make one of these, I love it because as long as you can stick things in there you are good to go :) I saw Laura's video early this year and I made my own from her tutorial, I wish I could find some metal ones but the "wood" ones are so real looking... I LOVE yours thou! Buying a tree idea is genius!!!
I love the way you put the berries in, upright. With the angle pot, I would put a smaller pot in there that sinks in, on top of another pot or something else like wood blocks to support it. It’s a beautiful contemporary container, it would look nice on your deck too.

Beautiful! If you wanted, You could get outdoor battery operated fairy lights with a remote control for pretty cheap. They look great without lights too.

Thank you for this video! I live in Southeast Texas so we can grow flowers here in the winter. I put a small Christmas tree (3 ft) in a container and surrounded it with Provers Winners red phlox, white pansies, dusty miller and Mexican gold sedum (lime green) for draping.

You can use solar powered fairy lights! Available on Amazon. They work great, come on automatically when it’s dark, and don’t require power.

You are right, just stick them in and they look beautiful. I wandered my garden in search of greens and was amazed at the variety that I could use. I planted a red twig dogwood a few years ago and was able to use that as well, it isn’t anything special in the summer but WOW in the fall and winter it’s so pretty. Worth having! Love your videos!!!!

Yes I get a rash as well. I use gloves but lightly coat hands with petroleum jelly. Laura from Garden Answer has the metal ones and then made the ones from hoops as she could not find a source for the metal ones. I have two metal ones but in Southern Ontario Canada. Do you have a source for them? Fabulous idea to buy a small tree. Super idea. Thank you. 👍🇨🇦💝
Nice job, I found it hard this year to find materials, without spending money. I do like your idea about getting a Christmas tree using the branches from the bottom than the top for a center focus in another planter. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊

Awesome idea getting a whole tree and cutting for pieces. I agree the Big Box Stores are making a lot of money on the sprigs which shamefully I have paid for in the past. And love your winter containers 👍.

I love magnolia leaves! I’ve used them on occasion but I have to order them if I want them. I wish we had them here.
I used Magnolia branches from my tree minus the dried out leaves. It has the little fuzzy buds on it and looks sweet. Next year I’m going to try preserving the leaves, hopefully they will stay pliable and fresh thru the holidays in my arrangements.
I loved your containers with the two different dogwood twigs.I like to use some of my dried paniculata hydrangea flowers along with my cypress fronds with some old thin red bamboo sticks. Just a sidenote, I planted a birds nest spruce and the next day couldn't figure out why I had a terrible rash. Put two and two together why. You are not alone.
The rash thing is weird, right? At least I know it's not just me. :)
I just use a premade wreath which is easy. Ha, you just mentioned that. I use a string of solar lights, too. They last long enough for me. Laura couldn't find a source to recommend for people to get those orbs, so she offered the embroidery hoop option. I found them on Wayfair and bought a pair for my entry planters
It's always a good day when there's a new TIG video! I wish we were neighbors but cold weather is evil so I am afraid you are just gonna have to move south. No? K, I will accept a giant floofer Newfie in recompense. Still no? Oh well, was worth a shot.
Maybe try cheap solar lights. They probably won't last long, but they don't have to.
I bought a pair of the wire fairy lights that are solar powered. They charge during the day, come on automatically at dusk (there's a light sensor, I think), and stay on for 4-6 hours, depending on how much sunlight they got that day. If I could place the solar cells in a spot that got more sunlight, mine would probably stay on for 6 hours consistently. Highly recommend! I think I found them on Wayfair or Amazon.
In Michigan we call it Red Twig Dogwood. It is a natural plant here. We love it!
We also call the native one red twig dogwood. I think the "cardinal" twig is a cultivar.
I love the way your containers came out, very true you do not need to be a genius to create a container. I’m glad you watch Laura from Garden Answer, she is my absolute favorite and Tube Queen in gardening. You said you leave your containers like that until like March or April I believe. Do your winter green stay green with styrofoam? I use floral foam or soil, so I’ll have to give that a try too. Thank you

Maybe paint that angled pot a color that would blend into the landscape to make it less obtrusive.
I have the rings from old wine barrels that fell apart and I want to make globes like this with them to put in my pots. I was hit with nearly 3 feet of snow this past week and it has put a damper on my garden things I had yet to finish.
Dear Erin, did you know that Laura at Garden Answer (and her followers which are following you too) have been looking for a sphere like the first one everywhere? Don't get surprised if the most common question on this video would be where you got the sphere from.

I know! I think it’s the exact same one and I totally didn’t realize that until I saw her video again AFTER I bought it. The good news is that they exist and are out in the world but I have no other info on it, other than that it was available in three sizes and this is the large size. Anyone in southeastern Wisconsin call Johnson’s Gardens in Cedarburg and see if they have more!

You can find solar fairy lights on Amazon for $9.99, I use them in all my outside decorations because having an old home (102yrs old) there is no power. But the fairy lights are awesome they are on a wire.
My mama always said if you cant say something nice don't say anything at all so...that white planter is tall. That's about all I can say about it, lol!
I’m in zone 6 and bittersweet is ridiculously expensive for decorating. I don’t see it along roadsides anymore so I planted some, variety Diana, (female, Hercules male) to have bittersweet for my arrangements. 🤷♀️

Have you ever tried one of those pruner tool belts that Floret Farms sells? It might be really handy, especially when you are wear a coat and pockets are hard to get to. If you get one and try it would you do a review of how you like it.

I been looking for sphere topiary frame but is hard to find it. I have the skinny tall metal frame , I'm planning to use that instead and buy a cheap live tree , cost less , because small leaves package is $19.99

I love that you used Eucalyptus. I'm growing a baby blue in my garden just so that I can cut branches from it. It's still quite small at the moment though. Do you know what type of eucalyptus you used?
I believe she used the seeded eucalyptus if it had flowery tips like on them.

I’ve been trying to find an obelisk since I watched Laura a few years ago use one, do you have a source for them?
Laura made her globe using embroidery hoops and then sprayed them black.
I think it was the urns at her mom’s house, maybe a couple years ago. It was one of those things that I completely forgot about until it popped up on my feed.
Laura did make orbs out of embroidery hoops. She does though, have the same orbs Erin has in this video. Laura can’t find a source either.

I've enjoyed your channel for a couple of years,, as well as Laura's Garden Answer. The pots are beautiful. Seems like, Laura, mentioned a spray that keeps the greens from drying up for a longer time. Do you spray yours?
I don't because I've never had a problem with them drying out, but I do use that spray for live greens that I bring inside.

Haha you crack me up. When using styrafoam, does it have to get moistened to keep greeens looking good?
It isn't OASIS that you need to moisten to keep flower arrangements alive. They look Similar but are actually 2 different materials.
No, and to be honest, I’ve never had an issue with that greens going bad until it starts warming up again in April or so.

Made a day of it by checking out Cedarburg ... many cute shops, plenty of great food & several really good COFFEE shops ... actually went to 3 of them ... gotta make a return visit when Johnson's has their greenhouses up and running ... Thanks for all your inspiring videos ... always find a take-away tip from each one ~~
