      IT IS a fact that alcoholism is a serious problem among Russians. The average Russian is reported to consume around 15-18 litres of alcohol a year, more than double the World Health Org. considers life threatening (8 litres). Average life expectancy is 60 years, the main killer being alcohol related diseases. A study in 3 Russian towns reported that 52% of deaths between age 15-60 were from alcohol abuse. Russia has one of the highest numbers of alcohol related mental disorders.
      This isn't a new thing either. In 1648, 1/3ird of Russian men owed money Kabaks (taverns). In 1860, Vodka was the source of 40% of the governments revenue. Legend has it Russia rejected Islam only because of its ban on Alcohol.

      Most honest reporting? Where did vice even gave a counterpoint, I really used to like them but now i see they are as biased as any other media there, they are focusing on the negative parts of the side they disagree, they didn't even consider that the other side might have a right to have that land they live on and to chose to join it to other country, why isn't vice reporting on what things Yulia timoshenko said about the Russians("Nuke Then[Russians in Ukraine]"), why didn't vice report on the rampant Ukrainian nationalism and the laws that ignore the wast Russian population in Ukraine and especially in Crimea, Ukraine has not allowed Russian language to be thought in schools, they do not give a f***that kids have to learn this language while in the midst of beginning to learn Russian, can you imagine US banning black American slang? And only allowing for "Normal English"
      Ukraine dose not give a F*** that the war veterans only speak Russian in Crimea and have to learn a new language, and the wast majority of people as
      Besides why didn't they admit that Crimea is a Russian land, that was given away by a politician, why is it so hard to understand that thous people want there land to belong to there nation. ITS THERE RIGHT!
      If London or LA was given away to the french would the people there become french? NO ofcorce not, and if Russian have to leave the Crimea because it belonged to Ukrainians some long time ago THEN ALL AMERICANS SHOULD PACK THERE STUFF AND LEAVE AMERICA TO NATIVE AMERICANS!
      So either put up or STFU!

    • @tigerclaw1000
      @tigerclaw1000 10 років тому +3

      ***** A bit west biased? The title of this series is: "Russian Roulette: The Invasion of Ukraine"
      They have made up there minds up that Russians are the bad guys who INVADE the innocent Ukraine before they went there!
      If there wore really reporting on events as the are they should have made the context clear first of all! Which is that Crimea is a Russian majority region and it is for a long time. Russians wore there as long as American settlers wore in America.
      Curiously no Americans today calls that an INVASION and demands that they leave, a bit hypocritical maybe?
      If you do not provide a proper context the rest is misrepresenting the events already and not honest reporting.
      And if they wore reporting fairly they would not show the bad side of only one group, why don't they show the blunders of the Ukrainian side but rather focus on the struggling people who just want the people of there region to be heard, and have a vote to decide there destiny if that is not democracy then i do not know what is.
      Its what the America war for independence was all about, "no taxation without representation", the Russian population is being taxed yet it is ignored by the Ukrainian government that is mostly Ukrainian not to mention nationalistic Ukrainian.
      And i realize its not black and white, i hate Putin for his anti-gay laws, i think its a step back to the middle ages for Russia.

    1:34 "Donbas is Russia. It always has been Russia." That is a seriously Orwellian statement. In fact, Donbas has been part of Ukraine for more than 20 years. This is simply more Russian soldiers occupying another Ukrainian city ahead of a hostile take-over.

People by SBU were never bothered to learn history, they were grown as Soviet people and always sure that Moscow is their capital, even young people learnt on monther's knees. They want Russian language as official, cause they are lazy to write some official application sometimes in Ukrainian, but they even can't speak in Russian correctly. They are mostly drunk and rude.. Please, dont think that we want to Russia. Most of local people are afraid to go out and show they are Ukrainians, that is also a shame for me.

Whatever they chose in the end they will be dragged in a trap to attack. and that's better for Russia and gives them a reason to act.

    "A Russian warplane made several close-range passes by an American warship in the Black Sea over the weekend, in what the Pentagon is calling a "provocative" move amid escalating tensions in the region.
    The jet, a Russian Su-24, made numerous low-altitude passes on Saturday over the USS Donald Cook, a guided-missile Navy destroyer in the western Black Sea, the Pentagon confirmed.
    According to officials, the jet made a total of 12 passes over the course of 90 minutes. It did not once respond to multiple contacts and warnings from the USS Donald Cook, despite the fact that the U.S. Navy ship was able to reach the cockpit directly."

    Seems like Russia is looking for a fight. Soon they may just end up biting off more than they can chew.

      I am an American. Flying a jet like this in a provocative manner is dangerous. The US Navy could take out the Russian Navy easily. Sure we would lose some ships, but we have 10 aircraft carrier battlegroups and hundreds of ships and submarines and bases all over the world. How many Aircraft carriers does Russia have?
      Dont forget that an Attack on the US, any US ship, is an attack on NATO.

    this is why the people in the USA NEED to support the 2nd amendment, this is why we have it, its not for hunting or recreation its to protect our country from anyone including our own Gov if they become to strong and try to take over. i would expect they would ask the UN to send troops here before they send the coast guard, they would claim martial law and say the troops are (peaceful, just like the Russian troops in Ukraine) we NEED our guns, it is the ONLY thing that guarantees all other rights. never give up any right, no matter what the Gov or whomever claims, the Gov will claim they can protect you at only the cost of liberty, liberty is only guaranteed with guns, The Gov can NEVER fully protect you no matter what. only you are with you at all times.

      SoulAssassin militia is not a single person, it is a group of people mostly not trained in military tactics, but most of us hunt game, which is the next best thing especially when defending you land, in fact the militia that one the revolutionary war were just hunters and farmers, they took down an army that was trained to kill people and had better weapons and tactics and cannons even cavalry using only guerrilla warfare, the militia actually out numbered the American military. it doesnt take much to take on troops in you own land, the USA learned that the hard way in Vietnam and Russia learned that when they invaded Afghanistan, and their militias barely knew how to use their weapons. even to this day guerrilla warfare is the best tactic to defend your homeland, you can train someone how to use a rifle and they can be effective with it, thats why whenever you watch videos of soldiers in iraq or afganastan fighting while using cameras on them, they never really see the enemy no matter how hard they get hit, you just ambush hard and flee, the enemy has no time to counter attack and all your guys make it out alive. there is no way in 1000 years any army will take over the USA with troops and no nuclear weapons, ever, and im proud my forefathers were smart enough to right that so clearly in my constitution.

Both are totalitarian states and Russia being a counterintelligence state run by an ultra-nationalist fascist named Putin.

    Simon, I hope you read this. You really need to know that your reporting there is unparalleled mostly because of your crews ability to be in crucial places at crucial times. You are excellent at asking excellent questions and you are brave. And the style is groundbreaking because you are almost, so close to being impartial. I know it is difficult to see the Russians in a good light since they are the aggressors, and you clearly have strong ties to the west. But if you try and reduce that as much as you can by showing the Russians in a slightly better light it would improve your credibility by exponential degrees. I'm not saying to change the bias, just to inject a bit of the pro-Russian Ukrainian story because it is impossible that all pro-Russian Ukrainians are hostile. Know'm saying?

    • @JackTheCarver
      @JackTheCarver 10 років тому +7

      And you're one uninformed guy. Those uniforms are not anything rare, the people at the Maidan were also in military uniforms, you can get those pretty much anywhere, especially German Tarnfleck. And the equipment comes from police stations and army depots that were taken over as well as from police and army units that defected to the protesters. This was in the news.
      Apart from that:
      1) It would be unbelievably retarded for Russia to equip these guys with Russian equipment. If they sent them there, it would be much smarter to have them equiped with other gear. I'm reasonably certain the FSB could do that...
      2) More importantly, over 70 of the armed separatists were taken prisoner a few days ago when one of those buildings was taken back. There was not a single Russian among them.

Nothing had changed. At Maidan were lot of nationalists and right extremists, which everybody could see. It is a scandal to back them and to restist the legal right for eastern urkaine.

    Here's what I find Hypocritical beyond comprehension: So Russia supports Regions in another sovereign country to have referendums to leave the country without support from their government. However, when the same thing happens in Russia, not only is it not allowed, but they will send in the military & destroy everything in the Region trying to secede.
    I.E. Chechnya, Dagestan, etc. How is that fair?

      the west is quite similar, and there are comparisons to the west being able to "rightfully" interfere in conflicts like in Kosovo and make them succeed from another nation, but if Russia uses the same argument it becomes illegal
      also America has invaded many countries in the past and no-one sanctions them for it, or condemns them, but if anyone else does it they get sanctioned and condemned because its against UN charter

      It seemed to be fair minded. I felt it showed both sides well. It's a difficult situation. You have people that identify themselves as Russians, and people that don't. Russia doesn't want Ukraine to break out in a civil war, that goes on for years to come. They have an economic and military interest in the country. To me it seems you will need strong local government that will meet the needs of its specific region. You can see why ethnic Russians are concerned with being discriminated. So far there hasn't been a blood bath. I think this situation requires strong diplomacy. There has to be a "win, win" some where in all of this.

    • @НиколайТодоров-и9т
      @НиколайТодоров-и9т 10 років тому +2

      Yes it is a tough one. Still, I do hope there won't be a bloodshed, I mean a real one. A civil war, instigated or not, is a terrible thing as history showed in Yugoslavia, Syria and Iraq.

    just think something.... when albanians in Kosovo held a referendum inside an area of the legal government of Serbia for independency (and the referendum was called illegal by the government), the EU and the US backed the albanians and helped them creat a new state by recognizing it in a region that was for centuries serbian. On the other hand here when the pro russians held a referendum which was called illegal by an illegal central government (because of the illegal overthrow of Yanukovich) all the west world was stenchly against it despite the fact that this area was russian for centuries....
    how hypocritical can that be?
