Great garden tour!💚 Just wanted to ⚠️warn you (in case you didn't know), about the very aggressive Mexican Petunia. It's beautiful, always blooms & bees love it but it will take over your garden beds & is nearly impossible to remove. I would only put it in an area that it can run wild & take over or keep it potted with a paver underneath so the roots don't escape. It's sold everywhere even though the state of Florida lists Mexican petunias as “highly invasive.”
The Mexican Petunias that are being sold in garden centers are supposed to be a variety that is non-invasive. Maybe yours are not the invasive one! The invasive one is illegal to sell. The invasive one WILL invade (unfortunately I was thrilled to plant it years ago before I knew....)
Lovely garden. This spring i'm finally starting my first garden here in Florida. The property already has a lot of bamboo but aside from that nothing but pine trees, not even a single palm.
@@IslandsnHighlands Not at all, It's been a lot of fun so far. Today I just cleared a bunch of shrubs and trees mixed in with the bamboo and it's a 1000% difference. I have a couple of areas i'm going to concentrate on to create busy foliage spots and a couple of palm trees all mixed in. Each year I plan to add to it until I have my own jungle.
@@IslandsnHighlands hey great idea. I think I'd enjoy sharing my little protects on social media. I just discovered you need to peel bamboo. It's fun pulling back the dry old skin and revealing the emerald stalks. This was from clumps buried in brush for years. I think ill buy some heavy duty bamboo and palm thatch and convert my deck into a tiki hut.

I put stones on bottom over liner as there’s no drainage in these wood one. I germinate plants from seeds..lemon 🍋🍒🍎🍠🌶️ I sold house in Kissimmee FLORIDA which I had a huge Liana screened plus vinyl windows. I really miss that. My Liana here isn’t too big, but at least I have it. I had several Plumeria plants + Elk horn which I left at house. No way to care for, but I do want another plumeria. Any ideas you might have for me.❓ TY
Thank you so much for the sub! If you like spinach- the longevity and Okinawa spinach are so good and quick to grow. Both grow easily from cuttings! It’s not quite as tender as sweet spinach but it is perennial! Everglades tomato would do great in there also-or other varieties you can try playing around with. The only tomato I’ve have luck with is that one-but my neighbors have had luck with other cherry varieties and even a beefsteak type. Everglades reseed itself and go year round for us. We use tomato cages and it helps it grow into a pretty shape. Keep your eyes open in your area if you have landscape debris pickups-people put out plumeria all the time or if you have a neighbor with a pretty one ask for a cutting! We get so many plumeria cuttings for free all the time. That’s so fun you germinate your produce seeds! That’s always such a fun garden experiment. Thanks so much for stopping by! Didn't get to watch it all but looks like a great start! The loquat tree will get much larger, wider and taller. It's too close to the screen in pool area to be able to grow well. They can be dug out and moved easily without hurting them though. I love them. They can be kept any size or shape, easy to trim. But not trimmed as small as it would need to be where yours is. I just found out recently that the fruit is great dried (like an apricot). Otherwise, once they are harvested, you have to eat them within a few days which can be hard to do.

@@rea8755 only an estimate but loquat trees get about 15 ' tall (looking at mine to estimate) and maybe 6 ' wide. They can be trimmed easily with loppers if needed to keep them a little shorter and narrower. I just trim branches that are in the way here and there. I've seen people trim them into more neat formal shapes and keep them like a large bush. Even without a lot of trimming they have a nice fairly even growing shape.
@@rea8755 Out looking at my trees and realizing they may be even taller and wider than I said--maybe more like 20 ft tall and 8 ft. wide? and if you want to be able to harvest the fruit then the lower branches need to be left on somewhat or else climb a ladder! We let the top ones stay for the birds, and the very bottom for the chickens. The squirrels will eat from any level--grrr and we need to get them quickly before they get them all!
You bill this as an organic garden, but you get most of your starts from unknown sources. So I hope you are cleaning the plant leaves and stems thoroughly before planting, especially if those parts of the plant are edible. Also, you seem to indicate that the plant you call milkweed, which is showing orange blossoms, is the edible variety. It is not and do not eat it any part of it! The only edible milkweed (common milkweed) has pink or purple flowers. But keep up the good work you’re doing by sharing how you are creating a wonderful garden from foraged cuttings. Just remember that your audience may be new to gardening, especially organic gardening, and do your research before recommending eating something you foraged. You caught my interest with your video showing how you round up plant cuttings on your neighborhood brush pick-up day. Thanks for that tip-I never would’ve thought of it.
From the time plants enter our property they are raised 100% organically. Not sure we have ever indicated that milkweed is edible, but thanks for watching!
How do you keep the orange butterfly from laying its eggs on your passion fruit vine? My vines are inundated with the caterpillars from the butterfly eggs( the only vine this particular butterfly lays their eggs on). I have sprayed but now my vine is so tall I can’t reach the top
Hey Melinda! Actually part of the reason we wanted to grow purple passion fruit was to host the Gulf Fritillary and Zebra Longwing larva. We had so many of them when the plant was young but I haven't noticed them this year. Our vine is climbing so high up in our cabbage palms now I can't tell if the caterpillars are on there or not. It doesn't seem to be affecting the growth or the fruit in any way on ours. It is an amazingly resilient plant. We have never sprayed our plant, it was pretty pitiful looking for 2 years but on year 3 it grew maybe 30 ft and full of fruit. We have ours growing in sugar sand and don't even fertilize it. We don't have as many insects here however as we do inland Florida (except lots of noseeums lol) so our experience could be very different than someone in a slightly different environment. If your vine has climbed so tall that you can't reach it, it sounds like it's happily growing. We have African Blue basil growing around ours to bring more pollinators. Best of luck!

How big will it get? I started some from seed. They're 8ft now.
