There is no better closing song on an album besides maybe A Day In The Life on Sgt. Pepper’s. This song isn’t some sappy and melodramatic tune about a certain romance you had with an ex. It’s about a certain romance we all have with our hometowns. The whole album is a perfect front to back observation of how these kids viewed Sheffield, and Alex just writes one of the most touching love letters to a hometown in this song.

+TheDOMAN127 your techinical explanation might explains why I can't stop listening to this song or stop thinking about it. When I think about Arctic Monkeys, this is one of their song that popped in my head.
I was in the 2nd grade when this album came out. I remember being obsessed with it and i remember thinking that the man on the cover was Sandler and that he had just formed some amazing rock band out of the blue.
I’m not saying that the Arctic Monkeys new material is bad but this here is what has made them what they are. The describing and personification of the British public as raw and real as it should be.
I hardly listen to their old stuff. There are a lot of Humbug/AM/TBH+C only fans. Not faulting their old music but it's not for me (this song's pretty good though).
Because this song was written whilst the were part of British society. Nothing against them and their success, but once you've become the band of a generation it is hard to wrote songs like this. This for me, is a song that perfectly sums up with experience as a youth growing up in the UK and for me, will always be the best song ever
Love this song and band so much. the outro makes me feel so many emotions, but that's the power of music for you. If there was a movie going to be made about British teens then this should be the credits song. I swear, if my friends don't blare this song at my funeral then they were never true friends.
Ryan Dempsey I started with AM(do i wanna know to be precise) now i've listened to pretty much every song on their other albums.(and of course oFluorescent adolescemt is my fav atm.My point is..everyone's gotta start somewhere.:)
I’ve listened to a lot of music spanning so many genres across time and I can honestly say, being aware of the likes of Lennon and Hendrix, this is a possible contender for the greatest song ever made.
If everyone could stop complaining about AM, that would be great. I think we all get the point now. I only discovered arctic monkeys because of AM, but i love all of their older stuff equally as much. If you were true fans you would be happy for them and their success rather than complaining in the comment section of EVERY video
Dont trip buddy. First song i heard was fluorescent adolescents and every one called me a bandwagoner... fuck em.. great music am doesnt happen to be my fave but some song i love. Great band people wamt to act cool is all.
Vincenzo64 lmao im pretty sure discovering music doesn't have an expiration date...you can't really stop people from discovering music...in america am were totally 'unknown' till AM came out...ha
People are entitled to their opinion, and AM might not be their greatest album, but imo still great. Just let other people complain and don't give a shit. That's what I do.
Everyone's complaining about the new Arctic Monkeys... and honestly, yeah, there's been a big change from the first album to now. But every band, artist, etc. changes over time. If they didn't, they'd be forgotten, like Avril Lavigne and Linkin Park. They're still the same band, same types of lyrics.... And even if I didn't like the new album, which I do love, I'd still buy it to support them.
This is my favourite song it has always been with me... Brings me back to my 14s and 15s when me and my brother traveled to England to study English and buy the music that we loved (their music) but was not available in Spain... This song will always be a safety point to return at anytime
and the bass sounds so freaking happy and sad at the same time, makes my heart melts,it makes me feel kinda crazy or idk that feeling you can't said with words
the best song to start a show, i just can imagine the lights off then the drumms and suddeny a spotlight in the middle with that spectacular guittar solo.. puffff amazing!
I love this song. But it's a good illustration of how humans are prepared to forgive the most heinous of crimes as long the the perpetrator belongs to their little group.
Peter Timowreef that is actually a great analogy. I've always thought that he meant that no Artist/bands make meaningful music except for him different outlooks I guess 🙃
i think what makes this so iconic and infact the full album is just that as someone who grew up going to sheffield alot and running around getting trams and being in city centre in 2000-2013 its so reminiscent and perfect.
Con está canción me liberé de mis demonios y mi pasado lastre, comencé a vivir, comencé amar, y entender todo lo que tenía, adónde quería llegar. Gracias.
so im at a friends house with a few others and we are proceeding to play some music through the speakers. i decide to play this song. for a few seconds in the middle everyone stops listening and i get the feeling they really like the song. of course This mood is broken when one says its really bad, another says theres no emotion, and another says the album covers weird. *sigh*
Love this song SO MUCH. Forgot about it for the last few years... HOW COULD I ?! Saw them live @ Wembley arena a few years back... fantastic from start to finish... bass guitar EPIC
"Well oh they might wear classic Reeboks" I've known known and loved this song for almost a decade, there are fewer songs that I have felt as much as this one, still only today I found out what he is actually singing in the first verse
It's strange, isn't it? I grew up in a pretty grey small city, but this songs brings back so many good memories it almost makes me want to miss those times.
This is my teens, 20,s and 30's. I'll always look after mine, fam or otherther wise. This album reminds me of being a youth in London. Always a pacifist until stuff went.. Sad to say then I became a pack of pringles.
+jay ehh, cobain is amazing... not taking ANYTHING away from the guy... but nirvana wasnt as good as the world makes em out to be. prett basic instruments with some monotone ass vocals.. some good lyrics though... "smells like teen spirit" not being one of those songs...

I'm guessing you're American. It's about rough areas, poverty. And Alex's love-hate relationship with these people. Not Britain as a whole.
ROADTRIP MUSIC
I was thinking the same thing
v
My favorite song of all time. Enough said.
I used to think that the guy in the pictures it was Adam sandler hahahahha
Holy shit, me too! Hahaha
Hahahahaha fuck
Fernanda Quiñonez lmao fuk u fernanda
Fernanda Quiñonez Me too lol
Fernanda Quiñonez same haha
Love this song and band so much. the outro makes me feel so many emotions, but that's the power of music for you. If there was a movie going to be made about British teens then this should be the credits song. I swear, if my friends don't blare this song at my funeral then they were never true friends.
this makes me so nostalgic... I don't know why, but it reminds me of when I was a child
His voice sounds so young here now, like a teenager singing
thats because he was a teenager -.-
you should listen to no buses, he sounds even younger
Diego Jerez vem
He was a teenager
+Victor Franca of course he was
let's see how many legends here listening this year june 2021.
I wish I had someone to fan-girl about this awesome band with:l
Go on tumblr! There's plenty of fangirls there(:
me? I know im a lad but still
Ryan Dempsey I started with AM(do i wanna know to be precise) now i've listened to pretty much every song on their other albums.(and of course oFluorescent adolescemt is my fav atm.My point is..everyone's gotta start somewhere.:)
Ryan Dempsey AM wasnt even their best album. It was good but not the best. This was my favorite and where I started.
Ryan Dempsey i a girl and my fav song of theirs all of all time is fluoresent adolescent
If you were true fans you would be happy for them and their success rather than complaining in the comment section of EVERY video
pienso igual !
Dont trip buddy. First song i heard was fluorescent adolescents and every one called me a bandwagoner... fuck em.. great music am doesnt happen to be my fave but some song i love. Great band people wamt to act cool is all.
So where the fuck have you been the last 10 years?
And even if I didn't like the new album, which I do love, I'd still buy it to support them.
absolute genius of a song lyrically and musically
This is my favourite song it has always been with me... Brings me back to my 14s and 15s when me and my brother traveled to England to study English and buy the music that we loved (their music) but was not available in Spain... This song will always be a safety point to return at anytime
working class lads with a raw talent...we keep producing world class bands...
fucking master piece
Straight up, one of the best songs of all time.
and the bass sounds so freaking happy and sad at the same time, makes my heart melts,it makes me feel kinda crazy or idk
that feeling you can't said with words
started listening to them when i was 3 now 12 and still my favorite band accept their new album
Wow, hey special, thanks for telling us ;)
ahh sweet memories I was 18 when I discovered artics now I'm 29 and still love this song
i've been listening to this song all day its perfect!!
This song is PURE nostalgia and I can't stop listening.
the best song to start a show, i just can imagine the lights off then the drumms and suddeny a spotlight in the middle with that spectacular guittar solo.. puffff amazing!
I think it's the perfect song to end a show.
+Joseph Nguyen agree
Superb tune. Can't imagine how anyone who aint English can fully appreciate this album!
you may be right thats the thing about art/music, its open to interpretation
Gracias.
Here because yungblud, so glad he opened my eyes to this song :) 💗🖤
never bored of this... ever
so im at a friends house with a few others and we are proceeding to play some music through the speakers. i decide to play this song. for a few seconds in the middle everyone stops listening and i get the feeling they really like the song. of course This mood is broken when one says its really bad, another says theres no emotion, and another says the album covers weird. *sigh*
lol story of my fookin life
You have shitty friends
I hate ignorance when it comes to real music
+SweeneyMan Kill them, kill them all and save yourself
+paranoid android56 yes you will I love Radiohead nice username BTW its my fav Radiohead song.
One of their best songs for sure
It might sound weird but they were my summer soundtrack in NYC in 2007, beautiful memories!
I grew up on a council estate in Halifax and this song reminds me of it every time I hear it
This song was inspired by Can't stand me now by Libertines
Nolan I definitely see that now
Love this song SO MUCH. Forgot about it for the last few years... HOW COULD I ?! Saw them live @ Wembley arena a few years back... fantastic from start to finish... bass guitar EPIC
Best ssong ever, gives me nostalgia to the time when i was listening to this song for the first time and it was going on too
That outro is like someone touched the depths of your feelings

"Well oh they might wear classic Reeboks"
I've known known and loved this song for almost a decade, there are fewer songs that I have felt as much as this one, still only today I found out what he is actually singing in the first verse

You’re allowed phones into them?? Wtf
Love the Ska sounding Chords :D

How dare this song make me feel homesick for the shithole I grew up in
It's strange, isn't it? I grew up in a pretty grey small city, but this songs brings back so many good memories it almost makes me want to miss those times.
Im so happy that there are people out there who can appreciate good music.

This song pretty much sums up northern England. Very relatable
best song in the album !!!!!
This is my teens, 20,s and 30's.
I'll always look after mine, fam or otherther wise.
This album reminds me of being a youth in London.
Always a pacifist until stuff went.. Sad to say then I became a pack of pringles.
Such A great song. I listen this when I am sad, and happy, and angry, always. Helps me through everything. I will use it on my channel playlist!
Alex, bring back your heavy Sheffield accent, please.
The lyrics are pure poetry, perfectly captures England.
I miss this
This is the best song of all time.
Sorry that's just my opinion, *cough* FACT *cough* ;)
This song.. There are no words that can describe how amazing it is
My favorite song off "Whatever People Say...". So many great memories!
that guitar bit at the end.
Artics back to basics,a lot of their songs 3 mins long, brilliant lyrics to, geniuses and it works.😎❤❤❤😎B.
This tune is so underrated.
I think ima ask my band if they want to play this at the end of the year at our school...seems right
YES
+3KingGaming this song is perfect for school festival or year end. Kind of song that makes people just dancing like crazy or singing together.
Better than smells like teen spirit!
FIGHT ME!
Truth 🙌
+Gabe Azevedo Opinions are opinions
I do not agree whatsoever nirvana will always be the best but doesnt take away the shine this song gives off its still golden.
+Gabe Azevedo Shut up -.-
+jay ehh, cobain is amazing... not taking ANYTHING away from the guy... but nirvana wasnt as good as the world makes em out to be. prett basic instruments with some monotone ass vocals.. some good lyrics though... "smells like teen spirit" not being one of those songs...
This song expresses so many feelings
I was 18 when this album was released, this is definitely my favourite track on the album even still to this day 🤘🤘👐
Oh Arctics, I hope you're not becoming the monsters you're talking about in this song.
