I remember being on a train journey with a girl I liked and she said “oh you should hear this song” (I wasn’t really a fan of Arctic Monkeys). Every time I hear that bass line I think of getting really excited, thinking it was her way of saying she liked me. I think I said something like “ay, romance in the title, are you suggesting something?” She replied with “you do realise it’s a song all about how there isn’t any romance?”
It never ended well with her, I’ll be honest. But fuck, what a song.

I was once consumed by Heavy Metal Spirit. The heavy Lyrics about Worlds complex problems, grungy feeling, Heavy guitar riffs and most of all the Growling and those voices. After some time u get tired of all that. Cuz that represents a part of u that is broken, that gets comfort when u listen to metal songs sometimes even overshadowing what you truly are.
And then i listened to Arctic Monkeys and Foster the People and i changed.

    Lyrics:
Well, oh, they might wear classic Reeboks
    Or knackered Converse
Or tracky bottoms tucked in socks
But all of that's what the point is not
The point's that there ain't no romance around there
And there's the truth that they can't see
They'd probably like to throw a punch at me
And if you could only see 'em, then you would agree
Agree that there ain't no romance around there
You know, oh, it's a funny thing you know
We'll tell 'em if you like
    We'll tell 'em all tonight
    They'll never listen
Because their minds are made up
And course it's all okay to carry on that way
'Cause over there, there's broken bones
There's only music, so that there's new ringtones
And it don't take no Sherlock Holmes
To see it's a little different around here
Don't get me wrong, though, there's boys in bands
And kids who like to scrap with pool cues in their hands
And just 'cause he's had a couple o' cans
He thinks it's all right to act like a dickhead
Don't you know, oh' it's a funny thing you know
We'll tell 'em if you like
    We'll tell 'em all tonight
    They'll never listen
Because their minds are made up
And course it's all okay to carry on that way
    But I said no
    Oh no
Well, you won't get me to go
    Not anywhere, not anywhere
    No, I won't go
    Oh no no
Well, over there, there's friends of mine
What can I say? I've known 'em for a long long time
And, yeah, they might overstep the line
But you just cannot get angry in the same way
No, not in the same way
Said, not in the same way
    Oh no, oh no no

There is no better closing song on an album besides maybe A Day In The Life on Sgt. Pepper’s. This song isn’t some sappy and melodramatic tune about a certain romance you had with an ex. It’s about a certain romance we all have with our hometowns. The whole album is a perfect front to back observation of how these kids viewed Sheffield, and Alex just writes one of the most touching love letters to a hometown in this song.

i feel like im part of a very specific niche audience that really gets this song. you really have to be from the north of England and have lived in a lower class area in the 2000s, thats the nostalgia this song gives off and its sort of amazing how much it seems to accurately represent it with both the lyrics and the song its-self. It really paints a picture.

I'm a huge music fan, and the stuff I listen to spans across several genres, decades, and complexities.
This is legitimately one of the best songs I've ever heard.
The whole thing is expertly composed and interesting, especially the drum track. It's harmonious, melodic, and catchy to all respects--I can see a full stadium singing this song and having the time of their lives. Lyrical content is a strong suit for this album in particular. Just listen to some of it, it's a tongue-in-cheek commentary that really makes you think, and then makes you laugh. The structure is awesome--I especially love the utilization of the bass during the near-silent part after the second chorus. Then, you've got the explosive outro that just makes you (or at least me) smile every time. In the end, it winds down and builds to one final slow-strummed chord and culminates one of the best albums of the last 20 years.

Everyone's complaining about the new Arctic Monkeys... and honestly, yeah, there's been a big change from the first album to now. But every band, artist, etc. changes over time. If they didn't, they'd be forgotten, like Avril Lavigne and Linkin Park. They're still the same band, same types of lyrics.... And even if I didn't like the new album, which I do love, I'd still buy it to support them.
