  • Arctic Monkeys Dance Little Liar Humbug
I heard the truth was built to bend
A mechanism to suspend the guilt
    Is what you will require
And still you've got to dance little liar
It's just like those fibs to pop and fizz
And you'll be forced to take that awful quiz
    And you're bound to trip
And she'll detect the fiction on your lips
    Dig a contradiction up
And the clean coming will hurt
And you can never get it spotless
When there's dirt beneath the dirt
The liar takes a lot less time
I'm sure it's clear and plain to read
It's not an alibi you need just yet
Oh no it's something for those beads of sweat
Yes, that will get you back to normal
And after you have dabbed the patch
You'll breathe and then proceed to
Scratch the varnish off that newly added calmness
So as not to raise any alarms too soon
And the clean, coming with the hurt
And you can never get it spotless
When there's dirt beneath the dirt
The liar takes a lot less time
    To decide on his saunter
    Have you got itchy bones?
And in all your time alone
Can you hack your mind being riddled with the wrong memories?
And the clean, coming will hurt
And you can never get it spotless
When there's dirt between the dirt

Once I broke my left headphone and in the solo part at 3:18 suddenly the song stopped and I was like “what happened!” and saw that the song was still playing I thought that maybe there was a glitch in my phone or something so I kept listening the song and all the time got cut in that part and then continued after the solo ends. Then I bought new headphones and again I was ready for the “glitch” to cut off the song again...and then I realized that in this part you can only hear the first part in the right headphone and in the second part you can only hear it in the left headphone! I was amazed they made the song in a way that right and left side have their own part to be listened.

Since there's no music video about this mind-blowing song.. I started to imagine one. Bear in mind I'm a total amateur and just sharing some thoughts about a potential plot.
I was once laying down on bed in the evening, and randomly listening to my fav band's songs, where all I was left with was my imagination.
1st part: So the plot, it opens with a dull, dark and gloomy street, where you can find the silhouette of a man, being crouched and walking in total despair about the burdens accumulated in life. Only the white area of his eyes are noticeable. His heavy steps make all his body move lifelessly(Watch Stromae Carmen song for a depiction of this figure). He look from right to left in the hope that someone might find him and save him, but no one, and he look back downwards and continue to walk with those heavy steps.
Chorus, some people start to appear on the street and he finds some hope, he look at them, but they are too busy to notice him. He held his heart cause its aching too much and felt hurt a bit more.
2nd part: He gets back to walking in despair again alone, no one on the road. But this time, there's some cars lightning flashing on the road randomly and some lights turning on in apartments and buildings behind.
Chorus: entry of people while he hold his heart again, but they still don't notice him. Until a girl passes by him. The girl, very seducing silhouette, with long hair, and mini skirt, a little top and long and gorgeous legs. He eventually feels attracted and follows her.
Climax: She leads her to a bar where she starts to dance on a pole-dance, with lights flashing, red, yellow, green, white(The girl tries to lure her a bit like in the I wanna be yours song by AM). He starts to smile cause he think she's his saviour. And when the dance is almost over, he just couldn't resist to the temptation of grabbing her arse. The girl, in total dismay, gave him a big slap.
After climax: he gets out of the bar, and has a change of mind. The slap was the small drop of water that made the vase overflow. And he starts to run, then starts to smile at the relief he finally got. He realised that the only person that can save him, is no one but himself.
Also, the meaning behind the song title is the illusion of the girl as his saviour. Which was a lie.
Thank you all for reading this.
Music video inspired: Stromae Carmen, Arctic Monkeys I wanna be yours

The amount of times I went like :"Fuuuuuuuuuck...that's genius" when I finally understood the lyrics is fucking insane. I seriously think they're so underrated and the fact that Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj and all those booty-shaking, attention-seeking "artists" are more famous than Arctic Monkeys makes me lose faith in humanity. They're not even worthy of being on the same planet as Arctic Monkeys...

I'm surprised that nobody has commented on this yet, cause this is incredibly accurate of how our humanity is just unbearable because of the lack of decent music with deep lyrics and an actual melody that is being replaced by Nicki Minaj singing about her big fat ass and 'Michael who used to ride motorcycles'. Honestly, you're actually so understanding of how I feel.

Guys, check out Metallica's "One" drums in the solo. Maybe Alex Turner took that same pattern for his guitar strumming in Dance Little Liar's solo.

I mean, arguably The Strokes are better musicians in general but there are few lyricits for the "Post punk revival" that can compete with Alex Turner. If not, ask Noel Gallagher.
