- Arctic Monkeys Dance Little Liar Humbug
I heard the truth was built to bend
A mechanism to suspend the guilt
Is what you will require
And still you've got to dance little liar
It's just like those fibs to pop and fizz
And you'll be forced to take that awful quiz
And you're bound to trip
And she'll detect the fiction on your lips
Dig a contradiction up
And the clean coming will hurt
And you can never get it spotless
When there's dirt beneath the dirt
The liar takes a lot less time
I'm sure it's clear and plain to read
It's not an alibi you need just yet
Oh no it's something for those beads of sweat
Yes, that will get you back to normal
And after you have dabbed the patch
You'll breathe and then proceed to
Scratch the varnish off that newly added calmness
So as not to raise any alarms too soon
And the clean, coming with the hurt
And you can never get it spotless
When there's dirt beneath the dirt
The liar takes a lot less time
To decide on his saunter
Have you got itchy bones?
And in all your time alone
Can you hack your mind being riddled with the wrong memories?
And the clean, coming will hurt
And you can never get it spotless
When there's dirt between the dirt
Copyrights goes to Domino Record Co.
I think this song is one of their masterpieces.
Nice name
Mardy Bum Every song of theirs ( with only few exceptions)) is a masterpiece, in my opinion!
Almost certainly the most underrated song of all time
Truer words were never typed. This track is a 5-course meal!
"I heard the truth was build to bend"
Bruno Farias "A mechanism to suspend the guilt"
mt ... ok I guess we're doing this
Is what you are requiring still
"You've got to Dance Little Liar"
i honestly cant understand how someone be such a good songwriter. this song is magical
This.. this is more than art. Alex is a pure genius.
probably, right.
He is just a lyrical genius i can't even...
mt I know... I know...
mt its like the lyrics makes no sense but the conact somehow...its amazing!
It is amazing, and the lyrics actually do make sense! Look them up on the Genius website and it will show you the meaning. The words are metaphors and it's incredible :)
mt I love how his songs seem to tell a story. No repetitive crap like pop songs of today.
Mark Gover Yes! I love it too! And with all the metaphors it's even more unique
Fucking perfect lyrics. I would chop a finger for them to make music like this again.
Well, if you didn't know already, they're in the studio recording their next album. :)
Yeah but we will probably not see something similar to humbug , though i would really like.
It's their greatest album to date musically and lyrically. Hands down genius.
Incredible lyrics, incredible.
Hace tu top five de las cancioned que más te gustan, quiero saberlo!
De Arctic Monkeys? Ufff, la veo dificil de hacer jajaj pero respondeme y te digo.
Escribilo aca!
Cristhian Duran Muy dificil nombrar solo 5 pero el mio seria mas o menos asi: 1- Ibet you look good on the dance floor 2-Crying lightning 3-Dangerous animals 4- Potion approaching 5-Knee Socks... El mejor album para mi es sin duda alguna Humbug
Goddamn Humbug is just a masterpiece from start to finish. Never gets old!
Dad's a music teacher
Mums a languages teacher
Add them together and you get Alex turner, the greatest fucking songwriter in history
+Henry Tedds hell no.
yes!
His dad used to teach in my school
massive exaggeration but he's pretty good
Massive exaggeration x2, he's good, but will never be the best xd
Why is this not a regular in their set lists. Massively underrated!!
Posting the lyrics here so I wouldn't have to look them up all the time I find myself listening to the song here.

Scorched7879 he’s doing it for attention
Scorched7879 so he can get likes
Scorched7879 “people only try to get likes when they want people to see what they wrote”
that bass at 1:54 omg
Those drums are bae
💙
Hi Julia, to me the drums are like a fairy-tale too. I never heard your expression " bae" though. Can you tell me what it means? Happy new year! Stephane
Marjan K naaa she didn’t mean gay😂. Bae basically means fit. Kinda anyways
Marjan K ahahah ok whatever want to believe man 😂
Ur mom
Alex Turner is an awesome composer
So whats not to like ? every part of this song from the vocals, percussion, bass line etc- is bang on. Nice one lads.
Certainly one of their best lyrics.
How to make a masterpiece with three constant notes. Fucking geniuses
Matt Helders, a true musical master.
...and the whole world is dancing.
This has to be the most genius song and lyrics of ALL TIME 👏🏼💙💚
This shit is crazy .... I've never heard so many songs before that are put together close to the word if perfect ....... There's not a word u can put on it ....theses songs and lyrics and musically put together instruments ... The way they do it ., is masterpieces
Sexy drums Mr. Matt Helders (;
Definitely. I was just thinking to myself that the basic beat he uses pretty much towards the end is the best. No fancy beats, a simple marching beat to compliment the guitars and base. Perfect
This song is dope
I listen to it while stoned & driving in the dark. Creates an eerie atmosphere.
endangering the lives of others. impressive.
@@LucaVincent driving while high is different for everyone
What a feeling, yess
say perhaps to drugs
@@bryan.2bc but technically still under the influence of drugs, so no lmao.
Budweiser ad: "let the music take control!!"
Me: NIGGA IM TRYING
Humbug > AM
No shit
Oh year
八月August I don’t think humbug is better than AM because I’m trying to be hipster I just find a lot of the tracks on AM a little bland and not the kind of music I like from the monkeys while I think humbug is a masterpiece of an album
Of course
@八月August No one says AM sucks. I love the album but Humbug is just better. Calm down.
03:19 to 04:04 I'M DYING 😵😍😍😍🙌🏼🙌🏼💜💜💜 let's take a minute to appreciate this MASTERPIECE GUITAR SOLO
Asma Bendalla argh tumblr
THIS IS HOW YOU KNOW IT'S A GOOD SONG, YOU GOTTA LISTEN TO IT SEVERAL TIMES TO REALIZE HOW GREAT IT IS
This song is so good it makes me want to cry.
Alex at his best, no doubt.
Was
I would chop one of my fingers for they to sound like this again.
TBHC BABY
hell yeahhhhhhhhh
4 years later and I don't know what kind of magic your finger had, but it worked
BOY DO I GOT SOME NEWS FOR YOU
L. F. Tranquility doesnt sound anything like this lmao
1:55 THAT BASS
X T R A T H I CC
Arguably his best lyrical work
The solo kills me. Love it
Another good song from the Humbug album. The ending reminds me of Muse.
This song has the best solo.
yeah beybee
One of the best songs ever
This song is just too good
Fuck.. I love Nick's bass lines!
People call this the most underrated song of all time. But that's not true. When you take away the singles off this album, this is everybody's favourite song.
This song is slept on!
"That newly added cornerstone as not to raise any alarm too soon" reference👊
* that newly added calmness so/ as not to raise any alarms too soon.
The song cornerstone
Dylan Murphy walter
2:08 awesome bass!!!
This song gives me chills. Too gooood
Once I broke my left headphone and in the solo part at 3:18 suddenly the song stopped and I was like “what happened!” and saw that the song was still playing I thought that maybe there was a glitch in my phone or something so I kept listening the song and all the time got cut in that part and then continued after the solo ends. Then I bought new headphones and again I was ready for the “glitch” to cut off the song again...and then I realized that in this part you can only hear the first part in the right headphone and in the second part you can only hear it in the left headphone! I was amazed they made the song in a way that right and left side have their own part to be listened.
"Humbug is my shadow". i love that!
In my top 5 of AM songs, fucking chooon that bass, that drums and that fuckin soloo
Underrated song and underrated album
Happy birthday Humbug :,)
I am SO GLAD i discovered this album.
hands down best song on the album. the temp switches, the heavy guitar! and of course the fucking drums!!!
Those drums tho
I fucking love this song so much
the subtle backing vocals from 3:00 - 3:16 are simply amazing, haunting really
Such an eerie melodic song!! Wonderful!!
this song is soooooo underrated
First time I heard the song I actually got annoyed on the beginning, then I thought "this song has to be really good to redeem itself"
I swore, when the drums started my jaw dropped and after that I knew this song would be my favorite.
(still dk why I thought the beginning was annoying, since nowadays I don't mind it at all)
Carol A A I used to find Brian Molko's voice annoying when I first heard every you, every me. Now Placebo is my fav band.
This song-it's just different and so smooth, never heard anythin quite like it.
this album is from heaven it is so pure and perfect I love it. Alex Turner you lyrical genius
Humbug is the peak of Arctic monkeys for sure, that’s not to detract from later records but I think they really tapped into something truly special with humbug
This drum beat style reminds me of Smooth Sailing by QOTSA, I love the connection between the two bands haha.
Its probably also due to the fact that Josh Homme was the producer at most of the tracks haha
***** Only My Propeller? I thought he was behind most of the tracks, at least thats what it says on the internet. Then again, internet is not trust worthy...haha
Omg I loooove that song 0.o
Whenever i listen to this song it chills my hair without exception
@lololpwned "humbug is my shadow." That is a perfect description of this album. Perfect.
I heard the truth was built to bend
A mechanism to suspend the guilt
Is what you are requiring still
You've got to dance little liar
Just like those fibbs that pop and fizz
And you'll be forced to take that awful quiz
And you're bound to trip
And she'll detect the fiction on
Your lips and dig a contradiction up
And the clean coming will hurt
And you can never get it spotless
When there's dirt beneath the dirt

I'm sure it's clear and plain to me
Its not an alibi you need just yet
Oh no it's something for those beads of sweat
Yes that we'll get you back to normal
And after you have dabbed the patch you'll grieve
And then proceed to scratch the varnish off
That newly added calmness
So as not to raise any alarms too soon
And the clean coming will hurt
And you can never get it spotless
When there's dirt beneath the dirt
The liar takes a lot less
Time to decide on his saunter
Have you got itchy bones
And in all your time alone
Can you hack your mind being riddled
With the wrong memories
And the clean coming will hurt
And you can never get it spotless
When there's dirt between the dirt
I don't even comment on UA-cam usually but thought this song deserves one. A masterpiece!
That ambulance solo
That machinegun-handed guitar solo always makes my hair stand on end.
Since there's no music video about this mind-blowing song.. I started to imagine one. Bear in mind I'm a total amateur and just sharing some thoughts about a potential plot.
I was once laying down on bed in the evening, and randomly listening to my fav band's songs, where all I was left with was my imagination.
1st part: So the plot, it opens with a dull, dark and gloomy street, where you can find the silhouette of a man, being crouched and walking in total despair about the burdens accumulated in life. Only the white area of his eyes are noticeable. His heavy steps make all his body move lifelessly(Watch Stromae Carmen song for a depiction of this figure). He look from right to left in the hope that someone might find him and save him, but no one, and he look back downwards and continue to walk with those heavy steps.
Chorus, some people start to appear on the street and he finds some hope, he look at them, but they are too busy to notice him. He held his heart cause its aching too much and felt hurt a bit more.
2nd part: He gets back to walking in despair again alone, no one on the road. But this time, there's some cars lightning flashing on the road randomly and some lights turning on in apartments and buildings behind.
Chorus: entry of people while he hold his heart again, but they still don't notice him. Until a girl passes by him. The girl, very seducing silhouette, with long hair, and mini skirt, a little top and long and gorgeous legs. He eventually feels attracted and follows her.
Climax: She leads her to a bar where she starts to dance on a pole-dance, with lights flashing, red, yellow, green, white(The girl tries to lure her a bit like in the I wanna be yours song by AM). He starts to smile cause he think she's his saviour. And when the dance is almost over, he just couldn't resist to the temptation of grabbing her arse. The girl, in total dismay, gave him a big slap.
After climax: he gets out of the bar, and has a change of mind. The slap was the small drop of water that made the vase overflow. And he starts to run, then starts to smile at the relief he finally got. He realised that the only person that can save him, is no one but himself.
Also, the meaning behind the song title is the illusion of the girl as his saviour. Which was a lie.
Thank you all for reading this.
Music video inspired: Stromae Carmen, Arctic Monkeys I wanna be yours
Love From Mauritius🇲🇺
OMG i totally love it !!
@@roxanne4752 Thank you so much!❤️
I didn't appreciated this album in the beginning but now I love all the tracks of Humbug.
happy 10th anniversary to this beautiful album
one of the best songs I've ever heard without a doubt
The foreboding is palpable. I still shiver hearing this track, many years on. A masterwork. Smush the like button if you're ripping this one in 2020.
Lyrics in this song are unreal
The amount of times I went like :"Fuuuuuuuuuck...that's genius" when I finally understood the lyrics is fucking insane. I seriously think they're so underrated and the fact that Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj and all those booty-shaking, attention-seeking "artists" are more famous than Arctic Monkeys makes me lose faith in humanity. They're not even worthy of being on the same planet as Arctic Monkeys...
I'm surprised that nobody has commented on this yet, cause this is incredibly accurate of how our humanity is just unbearable because of the lack of decent music with deep lyrics and an actual melody that is being replaced by Nicki Minaj singing about her big fat ass and 'Michael who used to ride motorcycles'. Honestly, you're actually so understanding of how I feel.
+AddictingxiPod You're ABSOLUTELY right!! And that song is FUCKING AMAZING. Your last sentence was brilliant!
couldn't have said it better
Couldn't agree more
can u tell me the meaning please
2:58 so this is what's called an eargasm
Perfect, but heartbreaking...
Guys, check out Metallica's "One" drums in the solo. Maybe Alex Turner took that same pattern for his guitar strumming in Dance Little Liar's solo.
3:20 *me after exposing a liar. Making him/her dance*
Alex Turner's voice is amazing!
I loved this album on first listen as well. I didn't even know that it was hated by some fans until I saw the comments here on youtube. I'm glad they evolved.
i think its really good that people are saying the first time they heard humbug they did'nt like it but it grew on them. thats the sign of a great album. everytime i listen to it it keeps getting better and showing different qualities.
it's a perfect song to use in a glamour photobook !
Masterpiece Mr. Turner
When the doctor says that you only have 4:37 of life.
this album is one of my all time faves
the best album hands down, and favourite worst nightmare
That guitar solo towards the end..
You can tell Josh Homme produced this, the drumming sounds very similar to that of Queens of the Stoneage... In a good way!
This and 'Pretty Visitors' made Humbug for me, lyrics are top notch and musically some of the best tunes they've produced.
they did the same at birmingham last night. was amazing. the thig with the curtain was genius, especialy when it started opening as the drums rolled. everyone went mental at the end for the heavy bit, was immense.
I think this is my favourite music from them, ever.
Alex turner and Julian Casablancas, They are the best of his generation compostires
Alex turner>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Julián.
In my opinion Julian is best, but is just my opinion
+carlos amezola I love them both, but I do think that Alex is better lyricist. He is a songwriting genius.
I mean, arguably The Strokes are better musicians in general but there are few lyricits for the "Post punk revival" that can compete with Alex Turner. If not, ask Noel Gallagher.
Alex - better lyricist
Julian - better musician
It's pretty simple to see!
Overall they both are one of best songwriters of this century so far!
I dont have words to describe this awesome song.
Haha the best
thank you for ever josh homme
How is this not a hit?
It took me 4 months to adjust to! I totally relate! I was shocked and confused by the album when it came out and only listened to My Propellor for the longest time. But then I got used to it and it's way wya way underrated.
love this cd
