  • In October 2022 I had a freak accident playing basketball and broke and dislocated my finger. Before having surgery, I asked my doctors, “Will my finger ever be normal again?” They told me, “Well, you may have a finger that sticks out a little bit. And if you want to do things like play the piano, you’ll probably need to tape your fingers together.” Then they took me to the operating room.
It was tough. Woke up from surgery in tons of pain, not knowing if I’d ever be the same again. But I refused to accept that fate. I didn’t care about what the norm was for recovering from this injury. As I suffered through all the pain during rehab, I kept my eyes forward, visioning myself back to normal.
When I learned this piece, I was trying to do more than just play beautiful music. I was trying to tell a story. A story about resilience - about rising up and creating your own fate. A story about me. My comeback story.

Hey! This was at the Flower Piano event at the San Francisco Botanical Garden. For the event, they bring 13 baby grand and grand pianos to the garden, and anyone can come by and play on them in front of everyone. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you are ever in the area around September!
