During coreys expropiate extra turn he would have the upkeep trigger granted by noble Heritage as it Grants the ability to commanders owned by Jeremy (which is controlled by corey now)
Corey giggling as he Casts Narset and Winfall makes me think that he needs to do some Legacy and Vintage Streams some day, I think Corey would giggle madly if he ever got to go off with Legacy elves.
this felt like the equivalent of 3 friends playing casual edh and the 4th nerd shows up with their 4000$ cedh deck, and I'm not even half way through the video O.o
So I guess you are new to this channel ? This happens a lot here. Classic pod: 3 people play their "i play all cards with trees in the art" decks and last one is playing "well lets try thrasios super value deck... lets see what happens".
Incidentally Backgrounds continue to effect commanders that you own but do not control. So Jeremy's Noble Heritage would still effect Wilson even when Wilson is controlled by Corey.
For all the extra turn haters: remember this is a show meant for entertainment. In a normal group/pod that player would be focosed down a lot harder (at least in mine) Focused*
The issue that I have with extra turn decks is that they durdle and value for 40 min too long THEN manage to win by doing tiny bits if damage on each of their turns after having gotten rid of all blockers. At least with cards like Villainous Wealth they will win on the spot if they have haste, the next turn if not.
Ooh so I had to check how backgrounds work... Corey should have been getting triggers from Wilson's noble heritage since it says commanders you *own* and not commanders you *control*
The only times Vegeta and Goku did the fusion dance were in the movies.(Im not counting video games bcs thats just too confusing) Thats when they became Gogeta. In the series they use Potara earrings to transform into Vegito.(until Boo turns them into chocolate, eats them which separates them, then Vegeta crushes one of the earrings because he didnt want to fuse with Goku again) The actual fusion dance was invented by the Metamorans who Goku met in "the other world." He then proceeds to teach it to (present day)Goten and Trunks. The Ginyu Force were a group of "elite" mercenaries Frieza hired. They had a weird dance but it was ceremonial. It was a series of poses meant to impress their leader, Ginyu.(but always failed to impress)
I'm glad Corey got his first win. People can whine all they want about it but Corey came ready to play. The Commander VS crew plays on the same power level, if people slack off on their deck-building they should be prepared to lose.
As a person who has built a deck around villainous Wealth (and laughed manically while playing it) and a person who has built Lier turns, I can say that you are right. Both playstyles are suffocating to play against. (Side note neither of these decks exist anymore)
@@jamesdavis5081 I think both are fine, honestly - but need to have groups that are fine with that style of play. But yeah, they in principle have to be the same, right? "I do everything while you do nothing."
Yeah, but Jeremy is the kind of toxic player to seep vile amounts of salt when things happen TO him but not if they're BY him, he's been pretty vocal before about knowing and loving when he's getting to have all the fun. So of course watching someone have his fun get him complainie
I miss Justin Parnell, maybe he and Corey can alternate representing team blue every week ie Corey one week Justin the next week then back to Corey then back to Justin and so on. As for Saturday Morning Cartoons Wizards should do as Magic cards, 90's X-men, or Power Rangers!
So many people whining in these comments, some going so far as to call for Corey's replacement! WTH people... this was better than the ten thousand stax decks they've had that make everyone stop playing
So the backgrounds say they apply to commander creatures you own. So wouldn't the effects continue on an opponents board. Specifically wouldn't Corey have gotten the effects of Noble Heritage during his extra Expropriate turns as the Wilson would still have had that effect.
21:10 Already now, I want a podcast from the CMDRVS crew called "Leaned Back" in which they all sit in their chairs, leaned back, and talk about random stuff like "What the heck is Blox?" xD
Hating on an elf being red but forgetting about Radha and friends on Dominaria, any of the other jund/naya elves besides bloodbraid, the handful of red elves on zendikar, all the other DnD set red elves, and now (can't remember if SNC was out by the time of this ep or not) all the red elves on New Capenna. Like, it's definitely not the most common elf color, and the vast majority of red elves are gold cards that are also green, but it's not something that's well outside of any kind of flavor at this point.
Corey's one of those players you have to watch like a Squadron Hawk. Liable to sneak a Cheatyface in somehow. 01:07:18 Someone finally said it. Thankyou, Stephen. Also $5 says he had a Time Walk in that deck and just didnt want to show them.
Yay! Corey won and its in honor of Justin wish he found nexus of fate to honor him further. You guys should do a cedh week just to show Corey his true calling 😂😂
As much as I'm not a blue Mage, I massively respect Corey for the deck he's built as a new commander player. Remember Corey had only played competitive magic formats prior. I do miss Justin but I'm loving Corey a whole bunch
This episode was so much fun. Not for the deck of Correy unfortunately but all the rest: the comments, taking a nape and begins to talk about play on phone 🤣 And thank you to show us the backgrounds cards
yes!!! Baeloth Barrityl + raised by giants... my favourite combo. I do plan to build that deck. this will give me some ideas of how it plays. Gale + Scion of Halaster is a very good combo too, it is cEDH powerful. I saw it on play to win where it just went off. I know Jonathan picked raised by giants, but I think it's a missed opportunity for Jeremy to not play the same, you get a giant grizzly bear, that's super fun :) I've typed this comment before I've seen the full video. just looking forward to seeing John's and Cory's decks go off, now on to the video :) Edit after watching: Well, Cory's deck went off. there is a reason it's cEDH powerful, that was nuts. But whoever built this deck forgot something. Did they put in Thassa's Oracle and not demonic consultation? why? the deck list is solid otherwise, but demonic consultation needs to be in there, you have Jace, wielder of mysteries and Thassa's oracle. Another cool combo is "professor Onyx" and Chain of Smog. I see Professor Onyx is in the deck, so add chain of smog and you kill everyone :) with the planeswalker's static ability which says "when you cast or copy an instant or sorcery, each opponent loses 2 life and you gain 2 life. Chain of smog can be copied infinitely if you target yourself with it. also, that jace, wryn's prodegy does nothing for your deck, take it out and put an opposition agent in instead because that's always fun ;)
I hope you have better luck with Baeloth & Raised by Giants than I did. My opponents just kept removal for that enchantment, and it just became too expensive to keep casting. My next attempt will be Baeloth & Noble Heritage. :)
Corey has been in the last place seat for like two seasons so I was thrilled to see him get a full pop off game even if it did look like he was playing commander solitaire!
My Cartoon of choice...David the Gnome if anyone remembers it. Too be fair Corey is newer to the format and deserve to try this type of deck at least once to understand why a lot of people don't play them with friends in commander. I hate the extra turn deck but everyone needs to try it at least once.
This is why only 1 deck I have contains extra turn spells, and it only has 1. Karn's Temporal Sundering is the only extra turn spell I play and only in Hinata because it's honestly too good not to. Lol
I think this game epitomizes why I dislike extra turn cards. The random one off is “ok” but when a deck is filled with them it’s just miserable. I’d rather see them out of the format as a whole
Boom, decklists: articles.starcitygames.com/magic-the-gathering/commander-vs-296-who-has-the-best-background/
Jeremy cast his commander 4 times one was from his hand.

Really loved this episode even if it was a bit one sided! Dont worry Corey im still a fan ;)
When 3 players bring a knife and the other brings a machine gun. Corey went neutral evil.

Corey played the most Jon Suarez deck ever and Suarez was salty af. You gotta love it.
i was expecting commanders + backgrounds to be Susan (random selection) episode...
Incidentally Backgrounds continue to effect commanders that you own but do not control. So Jeremy's Noble Heritage would still effect Wilson even when Wilson is controlled by Corey.
they also misplayed burakos bc he guarantees at least 4 treasures each turn

I mean for taking so many turns he didnt really do very much. Didnt advance his board or get much land out. It was alot of do nothing turns.
Steven Greene is wrong on DBZ but it's not a big surprise lol. He's thinking of their strange poses.
Oh wow, 25 minutes in and I am loving this. Corey living a blue player's dream
Corey was like a kid in the candy shop
I love the background mechanic from this set. I have a Ganax/Haunted One Rakdos Dragon tribal deck that is a blast to play.

Im a simple man. I hear Corey *bleep* out of frustration, I upvote.
Yea. Scion of Halaster doesn't trigger if you don't have Gale out.
Funny enough they caught the one time but missed it the first time
.
I noticed that too!!

Mr. Jeremy "cast villainous wealth 1000 times" should not get to complain about taking a bunch of extra turns. It's the same principle.
As a person who has built a deck around villainous Wealth (and laughed manically while playing it) and a person who has built Lier turns, I can say that you are right. Both playstyles are suffocating to play against. (Side note neither of these decks exist anymore)

As a Corey fan, it is good to see him come out on top for once. I knew when I saw his commander combo it was going to be really strong.
Jon with the Ronin Warriors deep cut! 🤣🤣 I haven't seen that in eons! Almost forgot that show existed
Hell Yeah Jon Suarez with the Ronin Warriors reference. That's one of my favorite anime
I love seeing how Corey grows as a commander player. Great episode.
loved the vid and corey's deck reminded me of my muldrotha deck! :) love winning with looping time warp with eternal witness and a sac outlet

Technically Corey could have put counters on his Notion Thief since he was in play by the time that trigger resolved.
Looney toons universe beyond 100%. The amount of goofy things you could get out of that would lead to some hilarious brews.

When Corey resolved Expropriate:
The backgrounds give abilities to Commanders *you own* on the field, so Wilson still had the Noble Heritage ability.
Omg Cory!!! Lol. Yup seemed like everyone else was having alot of fun! ;)
37:17 Commander VS new motto: "We play by the rules (sometimes)!"
