I have one of these. My Father brought it back from battlefields of Europe in WWII. It was stored without being used from about 1946 till 1995. I inherited it. I had a gunsmith look it over. Don't think he repaired anything in jt. Cleaned and oiled it. Shot 2 or 3 rounds through it and it's been stored again since. It had an extended barrel put on it at some point then that was sawed off some. Can see the hacksaw marks still. It has about one inch of the barrel extending out of the gun. Dad never talked about it that I recall. So I'm not sure what country even he got it in or if he just found it on the ground or found it on a body. He was in the medic core and was usually behind enemy lines.
My ruby .32 is a french army veteran. It's very heavy and eats all sorts of ammo and my handloaded ammo without fail. It's surprisingly accurate. Keep up the good work. I do enjoy your attitude and delivery!
I have a Beretta .25 Bobcat that I carry habitually..I will add another gun to my pocket if I am worried about things..but, the Bobcat is very reliable 😉 It will run through a clip with out a issue, although it is kinda finicky with Hollow Point ammo- I carry 50gr RN FMJ in it and it runs perfectly!
My grandpa who served in the Spanish navy used to have one like this for self-protection during the times of ETA terrorism in Spain. Beautiful weapon. Great video.
Very interesting.. do you have any stories of his toy would like to share? Anything from him would be quite interesting to me. Of course if you would rather not I totally get it too.
I have one of the last Duo's that F. Dusek made before his company was nationalized and folded into CZ in 1948. Dusek was an interesting man who refused to make firearms for the Austro- Hungarian empire and later the Third Riech. The Germans confiscated his company and made DUO'S under their own name and many were made with the eagle and swastika on the grip panels. Which makes it a very popular collector's pistol. Dusek was best known for making sporting and hunting rifles based on the Mauser 98 bolt action. Along with his very popular Duo vest pocket pistol.
I am a fan of the Colt 1908 Vest Pocket .25 ACP Pistol and have a very small collection if you would call it that. I call them "deadly jewelry" like maybe some collect watches but these are instead quality little pistols. Enjoyed this review and your work in general. Great channel.
These are really cool, I've seen variants of the 25 ruby with a very long grip that takes 9 round magazines. My example is similar to yours; but has a trigger pull much heavier than even any revolver I've ever fired.
IIRC, the resemblance of many Spanish revolvers and pistols was due to Spanish Patent laws, which weren't changed until after either (I don't recall which) WW1 or WW2. Unless you went to Spain and filed your patent, regardless of where else you filed it, then it effectively wasn't patented.
I found one made in France, That has the name UNIS on the frame but looks exactly like the one in this video. Fun little gun to shoot. What's amazing about this little pistol is how similar it is to a Sig P938 in the way the trigger and transfer bar engage the sear. Take the left grip off and compare the two, if you have a copy of the two to compare them , Makes me wonder is Sig borrowed the design ?
'Unique' firearms (in France, near the border with Spain) was began and owned by an ethnic Basque gentleman. Which is the same heritage and society as those who made guns in Spain. Not really shocking the design was similar.
I've tried to justify owning a .25 acp but I just can't. I keep remembering that one story (pretty sure it was confirmed though) about a cop who got shot point blank with one right in the forehead. He then drew his service sidearm and plugged the guy. basically bounced off his skull. He had a neat like .25 inch scar on his forehead the rest of his life, a headache the next day, and the ultimate shut up if anyone made fun of the scar
I wish you would have showed the break down of this pistol in your video cause I only did it once and forgot now. I don't see any other videos on this gun. I could probably figure it out maybe, but I'd like to see a video. Thanx
Biggest constant problem I see is the safety requires both hands to operate. A separate but sporadic problem is the inconsistent quality control and the inconsistency of the steel used. Also, the outer shape of the pistol is quite similar to the Colt 1908 pistol (and the Fabrique Nationale 1906 pistol, both designed by J. M.Browning and essentially the exact same mechanics); however the inner working of the Spanish and 'Unique' brand guns are markedly different in the trigger arrangement and the disconnector. However, other than a cruder finish, lower cost and the tendency to maintain them rather casually, they are quite functional. Other than the safety. One must also recognize this is a person defense arm. So anticipated ranges are rather close. This is obviously NOT something to carry when in the woods fearing any animals larger than a rabbit. These pistols were made in the city of Eibar, Spain; which became thought to be the manufacturer.
I am deeply intrigued. It has that clean utilitarian look that I love and the flutes in the barrel are very cute. Did they make anything bigger than 25ACP?
They made every kind of arm in Eibar. Shotguns, rifles, handguns of just about any imaginable configuration. Spain had a patent loophole that said if you didnt exploit your patent in their market, it was up for grabs. So pretty much every pattern of firearm (except maybe lugers) got cloned in either Eibar or Guernica to one extent or another. Star was an Eibar consortium, pretty sure Astra was too. But there were hundreds of small cottage industry producers, some also made parts for the consortiums, others just specialized in a flavor or 2 of clone/semiclone arm, some turned out FINE shotguns, some in-house original designs. Spanish military rolling block rifles, and mauser pattern rifles were produced in Eibar, as an example.
It's an old gun so replacing the springs won't be a bad thing, not to mention that the quality control on those springs originally might not be the best. By loose do you mean it seems to open too easily, or it wiggles laterally and/or vertically? If it's the latter springs probably won't help. Also if the slide is just wiggly that's not really much of an issue; these are not a precision instrument and it's probably fine.
I have one of these little pistols and need instructions how to disassemble it for cleaning. I note that in your video you state that the disassembly is a litttle tricky or time consuming. Can you give me a few pointers? I do appreciate your channel.
@@mwf19073 Remove the magazine. Place the gun on safe, then pull the slide until it catches on the safety. The rotate the barrel until it releases and slide the barrel and slide forward off of the frame..
Hey any chance you could do a complete tare down? I just found one in a estimate sale gunsmith bundle it was at the bottom of a tool box and I’d like to get her back up and running thanks in advance.
I don't know that you can, sad to say. Since the magazines for these are nearly identical to the Colt Vest Pocket you might get lucky pawing through a random magazine bin in a gun or pawn shop and find something that can be made to work but other than that the options are not going to be inexpensive. Hopefully someone else might have a better solution.
@@gerardorivera9947 definitely not, but enough of the magazines from the Spanish guns are close enough that they can be made to work if you are at all handy; they seem to mostly be based on the Colt 1908's magazine.
Nothing wrong with a back up mouse gun tucked away in a pocket for a rainy day. Thanks for sharing this one with us.
Cool, it is also pretty similar to the .25 acp Baby Browning. I inherited my Mom's Baby Browning and it is quite reliable, not that I would carry it.

A lot of things. Google the Ruby pistol too, some interesting history there. In later times Star and Astra made some very nice guns.

Me too!
great looking pistol.
Yo can you do a field strip on it I have a identical one and I'm trying to see the firing pin I'm missing mines
Hey Tink i got the same one but mine seems really loose in the slide area. Do you think maybe some new springs would tighten that up?
It's an old gun so replacing the springs won't be a bad thing, not to mention that the quality control on those springs originally might not be the best. Could you possibly do a video of full disassembly ? I have one that I dried fired a couple of times and seems to have broken something inside
I can try to field-strip it and see what we see.
Non of the 25s are cheap anymore. Just got lucky on a titan recently .
Do you have a disassembly video?
I don't, but it disassembles essentially like a Colt Vest Pocket, so if you can find a video on that it applies.
I have one of these little pistols and need instructions how to disassemble it for cleaning. I note that in your video you state that the disassembly is a litttle tricky or time consuming. Can you give me a few pointers? I do appreciate your channel.

I'm afraid that I don't know. Sorry!
Where can I find spare mags for a decent price? I looked on their website and the magazines are way overpriced. 42 dollar mags for a 58 dollar gun.
