    Hey Everyone! In this video I show you how I built my own portable sled pop up ice house using basic materials from my local hardware store for less than 37 bucks! Stay tuned for Pt 2 and as always, Thanks for Watching!

    UPDATE: I have retired this specific ice house due to safety concerns. On the ice houses last outing I had taken a small sunflower style heater along in anticipation of sub zero temperatures. After setting up and using the heater for a short amount of time I began to feel light headed and nauseous. I had cut ventilation slots in both walls previously before my endeavor in anticipation of the heater which proved to be inadequate. I had also set a small section of the tarp on fire due to the tarps natural flammability which was unknown to me at the time. After this very brief outing I had come to the unfortunate conclusion of abandoning this project due to these safety concerns and bought a used suitcase style icehouse which has proven to be much safer. I strongly discourage using a heater of ANY kind within a homemade temporary structure and would not recommend attempting this specific icehouse project. If you do attempt this project you are at your OWN risk!
    I know, its a bit of a buzzkill and I too wish the project would have had a happier ending. BUT, I would hate to hear of anyone being injured, or put at risk from watching my videos and would rather you take into account my experiences and challenges so you don't learn and find out the hard way like myself.
    Stay safe and stay smart - Dave

      Maybe an all in one diesel heater but another couple hundred

    This is pretty sweet - even with your mishap with the tarp material/inability to use a heater - I wonder if its due to the tarp being polyethylene or just heater fumes?

    • @MissionForFishing
      @MissionForFishing  2 роки тому

      I'm fairly certain the flammability was directly related to the polyethylene tarp and the nauseous feeling was due to inadequate/poor ventilation design. I think the idea and build was 90% there, but those two factors were just too risky. It was an interesting project and I learned a lot, but if I were to do it all over again I would just spend the extra money and buy a used insulated ice house.

      @@frosty9457 i think i use tarp but some other type one 🤔 it all depends what i find...
      It would be fun to use tarp and some other fabric and combine them

    • @MissionForFishing
      @MissionForFishing  3 роки тому

      I could see a movers blanket soak up water and freeze making it difficult to manipulate on the lake. I also could see where it would be more challenging to ventilate and would be less wind resistant. I agree with the combination comment, an outer tarp with a blanket layered inside would be most ideal but the biggest challenge would be adhering them to one another.

    Could you send / post schematics? I’d like to build one - just with bars long ways instead of parallel to the sled - so it can be a two man. Thanks!

    • @MissionForFishing
      @MissionForFishing  3 роки тому

      I don’t have any schematics, the only sketch was drawn up and shown in the video for a few seconds. I was going to make it a two man but then the center poles would need to extend out.

      I did not want it to look like just an average tarp on the water so I went with a color that would somewhat blend in.
