A great place to find some ingredients would be nice
Besides critical mode. Data boss fights against the real organization, some type of coliseum/mirage arena, more original Keyblades like oathkeeper and oblivion, more cutscenes and interactions such as Riku and Terra, links with other characters during the Keyblade war and just balancing the game similar to how 0.2 was.
A bit wishful, but I'd like a Colosseum mode where you can pick a guardian of light and battle Heartless with them and party members of your choice.
I don't understand why we're still doing Final Mix versions of KH. All of the stuff that people were upset about being omitted should be in the base game. Not sold to us via DLC.
Of course we need a FM, that post game is super weak

I much prefer Xehanort's original reason to seek out Kingdom Hearts: Curiosity.
It shows how much a man would go so far and lose himself just to seek out an answer.
True, this one instead shows what happens when a man is so obsessed with his end goal, that he allows himself too be consumed with apathy, leading him to not care for the lives he ruins in pursuit of his goals.

Right, so the plot of this game is that Xehanort was Revolver Ocelot the whole time.
I'm guessing Xehanort was more like Liquid, Luxu/Xigbar is Ocelot; now that the cover job is done he and the B&B Keyblades Corp can move on to their true goal. Which is to revive The Master of Masters, Big Boss.

@Godly_ Ice Big Shell/Arsenal Gear would be the world that never was (Referencing the part of KH2 where Xemnas transformed it into a dragon mech) and shadow moses would be Daybreak Town/Scala ad Caelum because that's where the Keyblade war/Kingdom Hearts (The heart of all worlds moon version) and Liquid Xehanort started and its the first place you hear about M.O.M AKA Major Zero and his Patriots.

You silly billy. This is a Kingdom Hearts game. No one can actually die.
The only thing that bothered me in this game was how hard Kairi got shafted. I thought that she would finally get a moment in the spotlight, to stand on even ground with Sora and Riku, but no. Relegated to a plot device once again. She gets completely upstaged by Xion of all people.
To be honest, I think she kinda deserves to get upstaged when Xion has actually had a fulfilling arc in a single game while Kairi's done almost nothing all series except be a plot device.
STILL making her just a plot device, yeah it's annoying, but I don't mind Xion taking her spotlight in a single segment because it doesn't surprise me.

In all honesty I personally feel like kingdom hearts 3 was absolutely just sloppily written. It all felt rushed where things were thrown in conveniently just to poorly progress the story.
TrackForField I think we need to admit that the series as a whole was never really well written. I mean the most of each game is just retelling Of the movies. And whenever it’s not that it’s just the characters saying exposition lines. There are loads of emotional moments absolutely but in terms of good writing, the series was never really good at that

I’m disappointed with how much talk of how another Keyblade War would cause unspeakable destruction, at the end of KH3 barely any long lasting effects are felt on the universe at large.
Because that wasn't a Keyblade War.... Xehanort was just using the m to recreate the x-Blade.

Apparently Disney was really hard to work with this time around, which is why three of the worlds were forced to follow the films.
Also the Xion thing: They remade her with no memories, once she came into proximity with Sora (since part of her is in his heart) she regained her memory and sense of self and immediately joins the good guys.

To be fair, it's already hard enough to follow At World's End. The world itself is great, it's just too bad the movie it was based off of was bad.
Disney has always been hard to work with, in terms of how they want their properties to be portrayed. Even then, at least in KH1 and KH2, a lot of the Disney worlds have kind of always been retellings of their respective movies, just with Sora, Donald, and Goofy thrown in there. Not all of them, but quite a few, so it's not like it's a big surprise when the world scenarios play out like the movie.

Not gonna lie: seeing Mickey's Keyblade and Xenohart's anime ball energy clash in dramatic fashion brought a smile to my heart. It was so ridiculous and somehow completely awesome too.

Kairi does get so badly used in the series, she could’ve at least got killed while fighting back.
And yeah Xeanorht having any kind of redemption, particularly with a man he murdered, is quite forced although Xeanorht’s plan is more remake the world because it’s crap rather than anything good intended

The dialogue certainly made it seem like Xehanort was meant to be sympathized with (Mostly cause we've seen that motive archetype plenty of times) and quite frankly it's still stupid regardless.
His motives are meant to be taken from a REAL WORLD perspective cause frankly the KH worlds' only hubris is how isolating they are.
A nice enough character motivation would be looking at the "Great" Disney and Pixar worlds that are beloved in the real world by "us" and have some in game KH characters actually resent them. Cause those movies are more so symbolic and metaphoric rather than ones being real. They are made to build stories around to convey messages coupled with neat animation.
But to look at them as 3-dimensional people would lead to bitter resentment and childish innocence to shirk and ignore real life struggle.
That's how I feel others would see it from an antagonistic standpoint
They did no justice for Lea & Kairi in this game. Both had been training in Merlin's Hyperbolic Time Forest only to get their asses handed to them & do absolutely nothing. Kairi's the biggest offender to this since they spent so many games trying to build her up as a possible strong ally only to end up a worse version of Sakura Haruno. Kairi's a textbook example of Wasted Potential.

The “true motivation” Xehanort revealed in the end of the game is a shoehorned version of that character archetype in the most laziest way possible and it’s much worse when you go back to his previous retconned motivation in Birth By Sleep.

People say that the original Kingdom Hearts 2 didn't have much post game content as well, but yeah, we have 13 years of game design since then, a more powerful system and development time. The game felt unfinished for me.

Yeah, Vanilla KH2 literally only had Sephiroth. And if you're that desperate, I GUESS the Hades Paradox cups, but neither of which are post-game when you can access them before the end.
Final Mix, sure, but I've had people groan at most of it being Org refights. Being straight fights for the Chain of Memories members wasn't enough differentiation for one friend with it. I don't mind personally, but really only because *I never got to play it from my PS3 2.5 copy not working properly.*

@@AniGaAG DBZ initially wasn't too bad with this back when Piccolo dying equalling his other half Kami dying equalling the Dragonballs turn into useless stone equalling everyone is fucked, and you could only be wished back once with only each of the sets of Dragonballs. That shit goes out the window when Dende now takes hold of Earth's Dragonballs and apparently characters can be resurrected without then anyway. Even worse when it's revealed Whis can just reverse back time incase the Z fighters fuck up.
@@philithegamer8265 In general, DB(Z) (and whatever all its spin-offs are called) is a show I've _seriously_ grown out of over the years. As a kid I loved it... but when I tried to rewatch it as an adult, I didn't even make it through the Freeza Saga before I was bored and annoyed out of my mind.

They should have made Sora go to different worlds to recruit Disney and Final Fantasy characters for the battle with xehanort WHILE trying to get his powers back. That way going to different worlds would have an actual purpose and the final battle would be more spectacular.

The reveal of Xehanort being a good guy was dumb. Not necessarily in idea but in execution.
He was never revealed to be a good guy, he is chaotic neutral, willing to sacrifice for the greater balance and completely apathetic.

kirbyboy92 but the are ways they could have executed it better instead of just making things just happen for convenience. Especially Xehanort’s reasoning, or the power of waking, or just the fake hey lets just happen to have replicas readily available for everything.
TrackForField yeah but this series was built on things happening because of convenience. It’s what happens when you try to tell an epic story with no real plan.
My favorite part is that he killed kairi and the man doesn't even apologize to you he just leaves. Hell Terra should have punched him in the face at least once.

Nobody forgave his ass. Eraqus convinced him to finally give up, but none of the heroes actually forgave him for a damn thing, and especially not Sora.
Except they kind of did, no one really showed any strong resentment towards him at the end and he even got to go off with they guy he killed.
Things were over, and there was still a job to do. The scene does not imply that Xehanort was forgiven by anyone other than Eraqus.

But the game never implies this. At all. The group just moves on to what they had to do next. With Eraqus appearing, it seems clear that they let him handle things.
The telling part is how Sora interacted with all of the other Organization members. He did not exhibit the same actions with MX.

Christ, KH3. The game's pretty as can be, but the pacing and character resolutions are absolute garbage. Which is saying a lot for a series that, while I enjoy playing, makes the overarching story worse and worse with each new entry.

This series is an accurate representation of why Nomura should stay with character designs & away from story telling. It feels like he wrote himself into a corner after KH, you can arguably say KH2, & he was mad libbing his way through the series in hopes it would all make sense when he put them together. Everything about this game feels feels rushed & disjointed from the story & characters to the entire game itself.

It makes little of an excuse, the story still lacked impact and was pretty rubish in the end(making sense of a plot point does NOT mean it mends all the problems it carries with it nor will make people sympathize with this character, which is what the framing of the scene was clearly going for).
My real problem with KH is that the plot is so much fluff and style but unfortunatly little substance. People are always talking on the vaguest of terms about dreams and friendship and light and darkness all to give you the impression there's something deep going on, when in reality that's it; the "talk" itself about that stuff is all that there is to it. False rethoric about vague concepts to fool you into thinking something smart is going on there

The problem I find with the overall KH plot is that it falls in love with itself. You look at KH & it kept things simple. Boy's home was destroyed & he's now going to different worlds to try & find them while also fighting against the these evil entities known as the Heartless and fighting Disney Legion of Doom. Sure, there were some complicated things. But the overall plot was simple enough to understand. You look at everything after & everything gets so convoluted from thing like Keyblade Wars to Time Travel that you start feeling numb to the entire story at this point.
Y'all say that but KH3 takes multiple shots at itself throughout the game. I mean "Organization Rehash"? Sora quoting almost every org member's actions when they actually enter a Disney world and seem to be doing something of relevance ever since KH2 as "What, you'll just spout some mumbo jumbo and disappear"? I mean come on. KH3 on it's own knows what kind of story it is. The only truly "deep" parts are if you enjoy the characters and what they go through. Granted that leaves a lot to be desired in this game's case but nonetheless I think it succeeds in that department.

Man.......it hurts me as a fan that everyone is divided on KH3 and to be honest I understand their criticisms and I to wish the game was a lot better. Maybe because we are so used to the final mix versions of KH1 and Kh2 thats what many people were expecting but never happened. Here is the thing, for me personally, I thought the game was great but I will admit it does have flaws. Like the worlds feel too big and leaves you lost trying to figure out what you need to do next, the pacing is really bad because a lot of is just "Sora you need to get the power awaking" and then at the end its like "Oh lets go save all the characters that we were suppose to save", and the game feels too easy even on Proud Mode I never once died in this game. I feel like a lot of these issues can be addressed in a Final Mix version or if the director wants to make a DLC for it.
Not to mention there was no Final Fantasy character game at all. Most of it was more Disney focused and I saw that many people had issues with that and I can see where they are coming from. The story while for the most part tried its best to answer a lot of the biggest questions that the past KH games had it still wasn't good at the end where the Pacing was all over the place and left us with even more questions than answers. I get they tried to keep us interested for the next KH game but at this point it just doesn't feel good where you want to feel like you got what you wanted out the story but then the game just leaves you confused and wondering what the hell is going on. If I were to rate this game it would be a 7/10 I know thats harsh but I had to be honest because after beating the game I just felt disappointed. Past KH games had their Final Mix so I wouldn't be surprised if KH3 get its own which will be a good thing but I hope they don't make us spend another $60 for a more updated game.
The problem with the game is it felt like people had their own ideas without consulting the others & they tried to mesh them together only for it to feel like a disjointed mess. Nothing really happens for like the first 2/3 of the game and the last 1/3 just feels like a checklist just to tie up loose ends before they move on to the next saga.

The game felt everything about the pacing feels like they were rushing the development of this game. I'd give this game a 6/10 at best & I feel bad that I paid full price for the Deluxe Edition.

I feel like one of the only people who doesn't think almost any of this was an issue to be honest. I think the combat is the best in the series (people say it's easy because it actually WORKS in its entirety), there's far less filler in Disney worlds even if the movie rehashes stick out more than ever and I don't mind Final Fantasy taking a 100% backseat. KH has enough world building that it doesn't NEED Final Fantasy essentially acting like awkward OC's in a single world anymore.
Really, I'm kinda shocked FF is so missed as a complaint in this game, the only negative part about the lack of it is lacking an ending to Cloud and Sephiroth's arc from 2. Otherwise...what, more shallow fanservice just hanging around Radiant Garden not even being a playable world?

@@UltimaKeyMaster no, the game is literally too easy. they throw attractions, transformations and grand magic and limit attacks at you every 3 seconds that dont use up MP and just tear through every enemy. they dont require you to think or plan out your moves, you dont even have to block or dodge roll in this game at all, hell you dont even need to use cure.

-Kingdom Hearts 2 was also waaay overstuffed. In fact, KH3 is a bit more streamlined. You either mash X, use magic and maybe an occasional triangle or Limit.
-Maleficent and Pete were NEVER useful. ESPECIALLY Pete. Maleficent could be argued because of the first game but her boss fights were pretty easy there.
-Kingdom Hearts 1 only had Destiny Islands, Hollow Bastion, and End of the World. Kingdom Hearts 2 had Keyblade Graveyard, Twilight Town, World That Never Was, and Hollow Bastion. KH3 has Final World, Keyblade Graveyard, Scala Ad Caelum, Twilight Town, Destiny Islands (technically, but I don’t count it), the Realm of Darkness, The Land of Departure and Hollow Bastion (technically, but I don’t count it). Kingdom Hearts 3 actually had the second most original worlds in the series.
-On top of that, KH3’s world’s are MASSIVE.

KH2's Final Boss Fight > KH3's Final Boss Fight
I didn't really feel anything in the fight in Master Xehanort aside from being tired. It wasn't exciting, and definitely nothing memorable within the fight itself.
Xemnas on the other hand had four phases, each one with its own memorable set piece:
-Skyscraper Slicing and superjumps
-The Dragon (The design was cool, but the fight itself was boring I will admit)
-Big Dragon with more Skyscraper Slicing
-2v1, dodging through the air, thousands of lasers (Still think this is one of the best attacks I've seen done by a final boss)
KH3 just couldn't outdo KH2's scale of crazy. I wanted to like the fight, I really do, but it was just a mess to me. Also that underwater section of his fight can kiss my ass.
Music-wise, Master Xehanort's theme sounds good but I felt cheated because it was just another remix and mashup. I was looking for something more original to the character.
Probably just me, but maybe KH3 needed more set pieces like the reaction commands. It made KH2 easy, but you can't deny it made the game look absolutely stylish and make you feel like a badass, and even helped make the fights more memorable.
I 100% agree. I went back to KH2 after KH3 just to make sure my nostalgia goggles weren't on too tight, and man the reaction commands just made each fight feel really unique and memorable.
In KH3 you get a bunch of unnecessary fluff in battle (the rides are the worst; I just refused to use them) that makes KH3 even easier, but it's the same crap every battle. This makes every battle kinda blur together.
Stark Raven Recently binged KH2FM and if there's something KH3 fails at (right now), it's game balance
You can blow through the game by spamming Firaza (which you can get very early on, wtf?), the rides get in the way, situation commands have NO COST (this is a big problem), Links aren't viable because it drains ALL YOUR MP AND FOCUS, and why use those when Firaza can do the same job for cheaper, and even better?
Physical combos don't feel as responsive as KH2's; this game really wants you to spam magic all the way through. I honestly wish the Sorcerer (The red cube Nobody that's immune to magic) was seen more often just to remind players you can't spam your way through with magic alone.
But reaction commands only look cool. They don't add anything to gameplay. I want to always be in control, being able to actually cut through the skyscrapers instead of pressing tringle and see Sora does it with no actual player input. For the first playthrough it's fine but in repeated playthroughs all I want is just to get to the actual fight with Final Xemnas (and the fight itself is kinda stupid because you suddenly play as Riku for some reason and reflect lasers, which, again, is just for style and no actual gameplay). In Xehanort's fights there aren't cool set pieces but you are always in actual control and fighting. The only legitimate fair criticizm for KH3 is that it's mechanically broken and Sora's combat tools need some limitations.
@@roiitzkovich4545 I like to be in control in a fight too. KH2's flashy reaction commands still made me feel more in control than KH3's Attraction Flows and lack of Cost Management with the situation commands. It feels as mindless as the command deck from BBS.
You can skip the Riku part in Final Xemnas's fight if you use reflect.
Thing is, KH2 gives you A LOT of options to work with that I ended up considering the Reaction Commands as a sweet bonus that made the boss fights truly alive. They just look cool, sure, but I don't mind when the game gives me some eye-candy when I can already kick some ass. If they give me an advantage in the fight, they're part of the gameplay in the end.
Like I said, the Xehanort fights at Scala ended up boring me because there wasn't flair and it couldn't outdo KH2's scale.
Osaka team still can't get out of that Command Deck buzz and it's really disappointing.
Here's hoping that KH3 DLC will somehow dethrone KH2FM.

@@pokevideuz Screw scale. You seems to enjoy pazzaz more than gameplay. At least with the attractions you are actually in control. You will go nowhere if you won't move the tea cups or the splash run unlike reaction commands, where it's like "please video game, may you give me the reaction command so I can finally win?" and when they do pop up you just watch the game plays itself. The only thing that is out of your control in KH3 are the team-up attacks (appearing just whenever they want to) but they aren't for pazzaz and just for added damage, making them a necessary battle tool, and unlike reaction commands the team-up attacks require a player input, much like limits (you aren't watching stuff happening in KH3, you are DOING stuff). And BTW Xehanort is harder than Ansem or Xemnas on proud each (at least I died to Xehanort twice unlike Ansem, where I died once, or Xemnas, where I didn't die). I agree KH3 is too easy but it has more gameplay than any other game in the series (and don't forget that vanilla KH2 was also very easy until they listened to fans's issues and fixed the difficulty in Final Mix).

The gameplay is reflective of the story - so overbloated with filler and nonsense that if often feels hollow, lacking actual substance in favor of fan service. The strategy and care of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 is gone, replaced with an overdose of flashiness and fanfare. Honestly, I think the franchise peaked, in story and gameplay, with Kh2 and birth by sleep and has gone off the rails since.
I disagree. The story has gotten more confusing sure, but it’s still pretty engaging. That’s just my opinion though. :)

Thank you for addressing all the issues and strengths of this game. Kingdom Hearts 3 from the plot, easy gameplay, lack of FF chatacters, and superbosses made it seem like nomura kinda came up with this ending in like 6 months. The game still has its strengths but this was not the game I was waiting for when I finished kingdom hearts 2 back in the day (although seeing the sea salt gang back together was rather nice).
I don't thing FF is really that important to the overall plot though. I mean they were definitely a main stay, but never plot important and they should never crossover to be apart of the main plot, because this isn't dissidia.
It does suck. Also I hate the engine. Kh3 feels so much different than the other kh games

On the Terra scenario. If I remember right someone made the comparison that the Guardian was Terra's heartless and Lingering Will was effectively Terra's Nobody. Ansem and Xemnas were Xehanort's heart which hijacked Terra's body. Anyway the reveal with the Guardian and how he effectively stole the scene was one of my favorites.
Terra was always Ansem’s guardian. It was implied in Dream Drop Distance after Riku’s boss fight against him.
I thought it was implied in BBS, when Terra started fighting Xehanort from within, Terranort stabbed himself and released Terra's darkness, which became the guardian

Eh Xion was alright because the organization needed a final member to replace Sora and Xion without memories was the best they could do. Their only other option would have been to use Vexen or Demyx, and they were both weak cowards so that wouldn't have worked out. Xion basically being a clone of Sora made her a great replacement for him as well. I will agree that the game did a terrible job of explaining that though, and I'll admit I view Xion in a more favorable light than some because she, Roxas, and Axel are the only group of friends that are actually shown being friends together, so they have the most believable friendship (as far as KH characters go at least). Also it seems unclear as to whether she was actually a vessel for Xehanort or not, because we never see her with yellow eyes.
Well according to the game she's not a seeker, because she didn't die for the clashes, otherwise Kairi wouldn't have gotten killed.

I already posted my thoughts on the Caddicarus video, but they’re still relevant so whatever (wall of text inbound):
I know the whole “press triangle to win” joke has been beaten into the dirt ever since Vanilla KH2, but this game REALLY pushes it. A lot of the mechanics like Attraction Flow and flowmotion (which was really nerfed in this game btw) feel superfluous to the experience, and as a result the gameplay feels unfocused. Not to mention that the feeling of risk vs reward from previous installments is practically nonexistent here, as the game actively encourages you to effortlessly spam commands with little to no consequences. As you can imagine, this renders the game absurdly easy to play through, even on Proud mode. A popular counter argument I’ve been hearing is that I could just play the whole game with Zero XP on and without equipping certain abilities, but I think the people who make this argument are missing the point. I shouldn’t have to gimp myself to give myself a proper challenge; I didn’t have to do that in KH2FM (a game that’s over a decade old and STILL has 10x more post game content than this big budget 2019 title btw), so why should I have to do that here?
My main gripes with the narrative are the atrocious pacing (everything important is crammed in the last couple of hours for some inexplicable reason), the unnecessary retconning of Xehanort’s motivation (I really feel you on this one) and awkward pauses during dialogue, but the more pressing issues with this game stem from the gameplay. This is something I really didn’t expect. I did think the game was fun overall, but man is it heavily flawed. I really hope that rumored Critical Mode DLC is a thing.

One idea I have to fix Xehanort's motivation other than flat out remove it. It's for to say that there's too much light disrupting the balance, as he himself said in Birth by Sleep, that light and darkness are to be in harmony.
I feel like some context and better explanations should be added here
1. Pretty sure Yen sid stated that xehanorts attempt at taking Sora's body locked the power of waking away, they had to go around the worlds trying to figure out how to unlock it (but they still spend the majority of the time not really doing that still)
2. Ansem's research lead him to keep his heart and Terra's when he went to become a heartless by unnatural methods unlike how sora became a heartless, although his guardian not being a pure heartless despite obviously being a pure heartless is a retcon likely because Terra wasn't a thought until halfway into making the story for kh2, I put that together during terranorts bossfight in bbs
3. Xion was likely taken when Sora was captured, there is a bit of missing time in DDD and because she was trapped inside Sora's heart at the end of 358/2 days she was likely removed as a contingency when Xehanort failed to get Sora.
4. Not context but im almost certain it was Disney fuckery that made Xehanort a twist good guy because him killing Kairi was just evil and unnecessary ontop of killing Eraqus, and literally billions of people to even get to that poin. This story was forced to change so many times because Disney kept saying no and it caused an extra 3 year delay, i get the feeling the only reason Sora is now in the Quadratum is so Disney can't butt in with the story when none of their IPs are getting used.
Darkness within darkness awaits us.

Xehanort being redeemed in the end is sooooo bad and forced. I HATE IT. And this is coming from a guy who has defended a lot of the plot previously.
He wasn’t redeemed, nor was he forgiven. If you remember from Birth by sleep, Xehanort had said he wanted to bring a balance to both light and darkness. That has ALWAYS been his end goal.
Also Sora, Eraqus, and everyone else didn’t forgive Xehanort. They just understand his reasonings. And Eraqus just told him to “give up”, that was it.
I think the big thing regarding post-game content is that none of the original Japanese versions of 1, 2, or BBS had them either. The games launched in Japan first, then months later would come out in the West with additional content like superbosses and other optional post-game challenges. This is the first game that was released in Japan and the West simultaneously though, so what might be a standard KH affair for Japan feels a lot more empty to us, since we're used to these bonuses already in exchange for waiting longer.
I suspect we'll be getting more stuff as DLC, though.

I love this game but have some of the same gripes that you do. Needs more meat on it after game, easy no matter the difficulty setting, Kairi's potential was wasted but on the bright side I can see her redeeming herself if she feels bad for Sora disappearing and goes to get him back. While the Final Fantasy characters were never my reason for playing I did expect to see some sort of conclusion to Cloud vs Sephiroth cause I thought they were just gonna wait till numbered titles to continue FF plot. Also I really wish we would have gotten massive original Kingdom Hearts worlds like radiant garden or Scala ad Calem being a massive final world like TWTNW was in KH2. We could have easily fought all of the armored seekers in 1v1s in that world since each of them used one of the 13s weapons.

DZ The Legendary One I think for Kairi to get better as a character she needs to actually do something and build meaningful relationships with other characters without Sora being involved. At this point Kairi is pretty much going on route to being one of those characters who only exist to be a love interest for another character. I mean she’s supposedly good friends with Riku but it barely feels like that anymore and most of her scenes revolve around her relationship with Sora, hopefully after Sora died she can do something that isn’t Sora related but with this series track record so far I’m not holding my breath.

Some worlds in KH1 and KH2 had original stories
