luckily the crew is okay. It is impressive to see how calm or better how professional the crew was handling the situation. Setting the urgency call, getting the stuff out of the water, and all of that without great nervousness (at least not shown) bcs everybody knew his/her role in this situation! wishing them the best
As a captain I've got so nervous I've had to sit down after a situation but I can't show it to my crew
Absolutely dramatic footage - good to see that nobody is hurt and the crew is working calmly to get the situation under control - Go Holcim Go!

This is leadership at its best: no break down, no hectic, no loud or harsh words, just clear communication - even in the face of such a heartbreaking catastrophe. So glad that everyone is save, team and skipper are just amazing, hope to see them coming back stronger!
We each may have a favorite - a team representing our country, (in my case USA,) but it feels like the whole community is rooting for success of all 5 teams and hoping for a close exciting competition. This is a loss to all. Glad all ar safe.
Holcim PRB looks so sad as I floats dismasted!
But Kevin keeps his so professional smile!
Such a professional job by all to wrap up this broken baby and get her back for repairs.😊
God's speed!
As Bavarian I am Malizian, but I wish Team HOLCIM all the Best to fix the mast swiftly to be able to rejoin the race by completing the leg to Newport! Good luck and fair winds. May the best team win!
Very sad about what happened to Holcim, but happy that everyone is ok! I hope they can return to competition as soon as possible and at an excellent level. Greetings from Itajaí/Brazil. Good winds to all teams!
My heart goes out to you...
This too shall be overcome.
wow. I'm glad they're safe, that's frightening, at night too
Seeing the boat so disabled is truly shocking, Kevin making a brave face is commendable. Keeping fingers crossed for a good solution. Stay strong and keep the faith!!
My heart is pounding, this footage is very dramatic. Wel done camera man.
yeah , camera man is even cutting standing rigging for a good shot..(joking)
I awoke this AM and immediately went to the tracker only to see the "SUS" for Kevin and mates. I immediately had tears and sadness for them but relieved that they were all uninjured and safe. All of Team Holcim-PRB will be challenged now. You must keep going; all of us out here are with you as you move ahead.
Kevin, we have confidence in your ability in any situation. Fight on!
What a Desaster. A very brave team. Wish you all the best. Dont give up.
Kudos Kevin. A truly seasoned seaman, genuinely nice person and hardened professional : as seen in the face of adversity. After his PRB Imoca folded and sank under him at the last Vendee Globe and ensuing epic rescue, this is probably not lower on the adrenalin scale but as he says, its all about focus teamwork and staying in the race and.., in the lead! Bonne chance pour le depart le 20 mai!
Glad you are safe. Stay that way. Very sorry this happened. Make port and repair. Back to the race then. Stay strong. 👌 💪
Kevin, he's a hero, he never loses his smile.
Been following the dismasting since shortly after it happened, notification on TOR web site. Awaiting more information, and then seeing the heart stopping footage. Shocked, to say the least, but glad crew is safe and happy to see Kevin and crew was able to recover so much of the gear, and in such a professional and steady manner, while also working on plans to continue the race. Bon chance, Kevin, and crew. You are the best! A real leader. I'd sail anywhere with you!
Very sad about what happened to Holcim but happy that nobody is hurt and everyone is ok! I But how could that happen? Wish you all the best. Dont give up.😥😥😥👍👍👍
Thankfully you’re all safe! Overcoming this disaster will make your achievements so much sweeter! Good luck! ❤
Merci Kevin, et tout l'equipe PRB pour partager cette video.
Etat d'esprit superbe. C'est ce qui compte.
Bon courage.
Tragic, yet spirits are high aboard, rigging for downwind sailing and determining options to get back in the mix. Fortunate, as reported all crew members were not hurt. Keep your spirits high and updates on this unfortunate happening would greatly be appreciated, thanks for sharing.
I feel really sorry for you guys. Hopefully you find a way to repair and start at the next leg! All the best to the whole crew and the onshore team. ❤
The most important is that you are all fine and no one is injured. It is super impressive how calm and professional you handle the situation. I would definitely sail with you all! It will all be fine - it is a sport and you are at the limits of it. Shi.. can happen!
Yes lucky no one has been hurt and the boat is one piece. In a race like this it's not a question of if something will go wrong, its a question of when. You guys are dealing with this dismasting very impressively, keeping calm and carrying on. Good job! Best of luck and fair winds to your next port
I am very happy that no one is hurt and I feel sorry for you because of your damaged boat. I keep my fingers crossed that you can repair everything and start again at Newport!
Wow!! Just incredible!! So glad the crew is uninjured- and handled the situation totally professionally ! God speed your recovery!
Hope everyone is safe… but that just made the rest of the race WAY MORE INTERESTING
Great reaction from Monsieur Escoffier as one might expect . Fingers crossed for the next stage, team
All the best for the crew. Very good to see, that nobody is injured. Great spirit! Good luck!
Great seamanship right there! Fingers crossed for holcim beeing able to start in the next leg in Newport! The team an kevin really deserve it!
Glad they're safe. The Ocean Race is equal parts sailing at the highest level and inter-continental shipping and logistics at the highest level. I have complete faith that Kevin will start in Newport still leading the race. Courage mes amis!
Wow! Crazy. What coverage!
It hurts so much to see kevin and his crew and the boat. I wish you Good luck and all the best!!! You will make it
Thanks for the Video and the emotions shared. All the best for you guys.
what a nightmare ... in the dark - and so glad you´re all well... 🤞🤞🤞to see you soon back in the race 🌬🌬⛵
This is shocking - and I am incredibly glad that all the crew are alright, which is the most important aspect.
Regarding the material failure: They happen. Of course there should be an analysis and research into what caused it and how it can be approved, but I believe that we can summarize that this was truly, for the most part, tough luck.
Also, an incredible compliment to all the sailors: I know from my own experience how easily frayed the nerves can be in stressful situations - the way they are keeping it together, coordinating, communicating, and managing to brave a hazardous situation is a remarkable lesson for anyone.
Sods law that this happened at night, sure didn’t make sorting the mess any easier.
They obviously did a great job of protecting the hull from being holed by the fallen rig by getting rid of it really quickly.
What a nightmare, well done guys and wishing all a safe passage to a port with facilities to do the repairs.
😎👍🍻
I really feel for you. Stay safe, and all the best to get back racing soon!
Kevin said they saved the J2, and a lot of rigging. I can't tell if they were able to save the main. It is not easy pulling a main off a broken rig laying in the water. Looks like the head stay broke just above the roller furler.
Good to see this. I remember a dismasting in Southern Ocean some 20-25 yers ago, Team SEB. They were able to do a jury rig that made it possible to get forward. Perhaps jury rigging is more difficult on Imocas than on those ships. They sailed to Usahia for repairs. Guess Holcim PRB is better positioned. Not too far to Rio.
Keep on fighting Team Holcim PRB.. you are the best.. So glad that you are all safe.. fair winds alwys
I am really sad, that team Holcim-PRB is foced to give up that leg. Let's hope they can restart in Newport. Kevin is one of the best sailors in the world. After the bad accident in the vendee globe, he (and also his team, of course!) has not deserved such a heavy blow again...
Wow good luck team and incredible recovery. What harrowing footage!
Unfortunate but like you said" Having an issue is one thing but how you recover is just as important". Everyone is safe and most if not all components are on board.
Now up to the offshore team to drive solutions, replacement parts and the closest location to manage repairs.
Hoping you get to Newport intime for leg 5.
Greatful you are all Safe and Amazing what you achieved saving what you could and the excellent team work. Wishing the best outcome for you and the team
Best Wishes for the PRB success and future-Joy to come as you make your comeback- Where a Will A Way!
Kevin and the team will find a way. Chapeaux for keeping calm and dealing with such a terrible situation. Go go go Team Holcim PRB
I know its a pain the butt at least no got hurt lets hope you mange to make ashore or get the mast back up what you deside to do stay safe, I love your optimistic thinking never down always up Guys I hope you get there .👍✌🤞
Wishing you the best!
Fortunately all the crew it's OK. It's the most important think
wow! that's crazy! I am glad they were still so close to shore.
Such a tragedy can befall even the best prepared but it’s great to know that the crew are all safe, the vessel is still floating and the rescue plan is already being formulated and hopefully sail to Newport to rejoin for the next leg.
The reason for the failure won’t be known for a while, however the professionalism of the crew was outstanding and I truly commend all persons onboard for the calmness displayed including the even tone of voice when transmitting the Pan Call.
Stay safe and we all wish you a speedy repair which we shall be eagerly following as well as the race. 👏👏🙏🙏💪💪👍👍🤩🤩
All the best to the team. Having an actionable kite on-board (like SeaKite) for such situations would be fantastic
I don‘t remember any (on-board) recording so quickly after the incident in the history of sailing!
I think it was quite quick even from Guyot on leg 3. Maybe even quicker.
bravo, bel esprit, la course continue...
So sorry. Praying the best for you all. Looking forward to seeing you back racing.
courage les gars, faites gaffe
Good Job , all the best❤
she looks so forlorn laying there in the light swell
my heart weeps for you and the crew
Stay brave
good luck
bon chance
Good luck guys
Glad everyone is safe
Well, that's terrifying!
Kevin Escoffier: very strong character!
Très triste pour vous tous; vous aviez été excellents jusqu'ici; on pense à vous tous; bravo à tous pour montrer que vous avez l'énergie de continuer. go ,Kevin go !!
Nice to see you all doing fine. Hope you can start in the next leg.
Great seamanship, man.
Heads up guys! You will do it! 🤞
Incroyable de voir un démâtage d'aussi près
very lucky everyone inside the boat when it break and falling off, no one hurt.
devastating news. But you will be back, come on Holcim!
Team is here only to deal with issues, that being a strong wind...no wind, a sail breaking... a mast falling... And you do very well at solving problems which is a performance...!
Big ops. The important is that every one is ok. Good luck and take care 😊👍🏻👍🏻
Spectacular! What a pity, I'm feeling deeply sorry for them. But how could that happen? Would be grateful to learn more about what was the reason for that disaster.
looks like the stay snapped. perhaps material fatigue on the wire
I'll keep my fingers crossed for the repair to be accomplished in time for Newport.
@@LuiyoSA Something up front certainly parted - although it could well be the anchor plate/fixing. I'm sure all the other teams will want to know the exact cause too.
@@LuiyoSA I sort of assumed that they’re all carbon rigs, rather than rod or wire.
It’s pretty unusual for a carbon stay to fail unless it’s been physically damaged.
It’ll be interesting to find out exactly what happened.
😎👍🍻
@@robm.4512 If one of the stays snaps, the mast is not capable to hold the forces, no matter what material he is made of. A mast is very strong for axial force, but not for bending.
Stay safe best wishes
Given that all the boats have to run the same mast curious what will be done to track down the reason for the failure.
Seeing this Video, I was close to cry 😢 Im a Fan of Malizia, but this is such a bad luck, without words! I hope that you find fast a solution to come back in the race! Keep the heads up! Fingers crossed.
Outstanding work dealing with this most disappointing setback. Amazing leadership, Kevin Escoffier!
Glad everyone is okay, hopefully they can jury-rig something. You can see them looking at the rigging failure at 3:00
So Sorry for Team Holcim PRB! I keep my fingers crossed that you will make it to Newport on time for the next leg. Most importantly: Stay safe!
One must consider that the damage done that caused the failure most likely was the result of the conditions encountered in the Southern Ocean.
Crossing all fingers that Holcim can make it back to the race quickly. Sad to see them like this, but lucky on the other hand that nobody got injured.
hope you all get back in the race as soon as possible.🏆
Glad everyone is safe.
How can they make it across the Southern Ocean so well and then their mast breaks mid Atlantic?
Was it carrying unknown damage or was it not secured properly after recent service?
Em 2012 na parada em Itajaí teve uma troca de mastro também por causa de rompimento.
Woow, this is heartbreaking! Even though I am rooting for another team, I never wish any team such bad luck. Hope you can get back soon an be back in the race, you deserve it.
Just making the race very interesting! jokes aside of course, good work in saving sales etc and fortune in getting back racing as soon as possible.
OMG So sorry for all team. Everyone is SAFE this is more important... Everything gonna be good....
All safe👍👍
Strange to see a mast fail in such moderate conditions, no broach, no UFO.
Great work from skipper and crew on this dramatic event.
However I am shocked by the lack of redundancy these boats apparently have with regards to component failure. Off course we don't know exactly what happened but apparently the forestay broke in calm weather, causing the mast to fall aft. No halyard to take the load? Do they use halyard locks for the genoa on these boats?
Also no inner forestay nor a code 0 halyard rigged?
Oh, so terrible. But feels so comforting to see the professionals dealing methodically with the calamity.
And ... am so relieved everyone is okay and the boat in some kind of order.
Sad about this event and asking what happened... Go Team Holcim, believe you are still on. Fix it and come back! 💪🤝🌊⛵️
So sorry guys. You have done such a great job. To have something like this happen is a great shame. Do you know what failed yet?
BUMMER
So sad, stay strong.
Best sailors in the world 👍
Big race. Big risks.
