Jimmy Carr has one of my favorite quotes about comedy. Jimmy Carr: “People often ask me, what is the most offensive joke. I don’t know, because I don’t know what offends you. Some people don’t seem to realize that offense is taken, not given, but I can try.”
If you’re British, you deal with the really bad stuff by laughing at it. You belittle it, you point out its absurdities. As Jimmy says, “It’s only words, nothing bad has happened”
this guy acts tough with sure i like Andrew dice clay sexist jokes and Rickles racist jokes...But if it offends him its not funny...So being racist and sexist is cool...So he could not laugh at 911 joke...or Kiddie jokes...because that against his "image" This guy would need a safe space if you did a pro trans or pro Palestine joke...or a pro woman joke...
@@i.aladdina lot of the ground roots of the U.K. comedy industry is much more aware about offensive material and refrains from jokes that include those topics. Jimmy, Frankie Boyle, Ricky Gervais etc are from a generation where this didn’t exist. Whilst Boyle doesn’t do standup anymore, Gervais and Carr have enough money and fans for any blowback from offensive jokes to not bother them.
Lol anyone who says this doesn't know many Americans and spends too much time on Twitter there are many more Americans who love dark offensive humor than Brits go touch grass
Jimmy Carr is huge , you reviewed 10 minutes of 20 years of comedy he’s brilliant at comedy back one liners, how Americans not heard of him mind blowing
100% American here, love Jimmy Car. And Sean Locke, RIP. The 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown stuff is hilarious. Since I was a kid I really liked the British sense of humor. Watched all the Monty Python stuff, Bennie Hill, etc...
You can find a clip of it, he was asked once "what is the most offensive joke you had ever written? " if only Africa had more mosquito nets, then every year we could save MILLIONS of mosquitoes from dying needlessly of AIDS "
Check out his heckler and audience roast videos, his freestyle comedy is out of this world. It is his specialty. There are no kid jokes in the heckler compilations, so don't worry. Jimmy Vs The Audience: HECKLERS & ROASTS VOL. 1 | Jimmy Carr ua-cam.com/video/wqoJolsYFO0/v-deo.html
When you watch a full special instead of curated clips there's far less/less concentrated kid jokes lol This dude is awesome, and hosts almost every British show I've ever watched
The dichotomy of Jimmy is that his TV persona is one of the cleanest around (well sort of). He hosts a show called "8 out of 10 Cats" and "9 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown". The later is basically a letters and numbers game with comics where they spend half an hr messing about. Sounds boring as hell but some of the best UK panel show TV
We Brit grow up with all types of humour and having experienced the effect of wars and depressions, we have had plenty of time to develop our dark comedy and push our jokes to the extreme. There's plenty of clips and programs out there to discover, so let see how long it takes for your sensitivity levels to drop to that of the above audience! Remember, we may laugh at the joke, but our minds separate it from reality.
If you find Jimmy Carr outside of his comedy shows, like he was on Joe Rogan’s podcast, he is a genuinely nice guy! His jokes are just that jokes…just trying to make you laugh. My comedy rule: if you laugh at it, you cant be offended by it
Jimmy Carr is still performing, he's known as the most hardworking British comedian to be honest. I think he performs even now 300 days out of the year, and that still included all the TV series he worked on. He's prolific if nothing else
It hid it EDIT: oh it actually just removed it. Usually it just hides it unless you switch to most recent comments, but it straight up removed my other comment
Even my 11 and 6yr olds know you beat the darkness by ripping the shit out of it 😂 I was lucky enough to meet Jimmy a few years back, and he is super sweet and very charming x
@@laziojohnny79 Well without the British audience, he has no comedy cv/resume to take him abroad. Nor tv/stand up career to launch himself in the US on the back of. There's numerous comedians that reached the mainstream in the UK, that were unlikely to have done so if they'd started in a less forgiving/appreciative US market. He'd be a more sanitised version of himself and that really doesn't work as well, imo. Granted I been a fan since his early days and 'my name sounds like if you tried saying "Jamaica" in a Jamaican accent', before "8 out of 10 cats" and he has a clean set that can be gleamed out of it all but the "laugh and gasp" is kinda his trademark, his own laugh aside.
Jimmy is a genuinely lovely guy usually staying behind after the show for as long as it takes to meet every fan who wants to say hello. Even when he got publicly named and humiliated by the prime minister for tax avoidance he was open and honest admitting his mistake and not trying to whift the blame. Although he could have easily blamed his accountant who advised him to do it or even pointed out the PMs own father was up to his ears in similar shenanigans.
From what I understand he didn't actually break any laws, it was just a touchy issue at the time and made him look like a rich guy taking advantage of things the average person never could. So he just said "my bad" and paid up anyway.
@wallywest2360 yes he didn't do anything illegal just used the same loopholes as politicians friends do without paying the required "contributions"/ bribes to the wankners in power. It's funny how they publicly shamed Jimmy but do absolutely nothing about Google, Amazon and Starbucks who all use the same system to pay absolutely no tax at all while making a thousand times more money than he ever will.
Jimmy Carr loves his dark humor and he is actually quite intelligent. I love dark humor. I think it's the kind of comedy that has a twist. Jimmy was on the Joe Rogan podcast not too long ago and he actually impressed me with his knowledge of history and why some things are the way they are that I haven't forgotten.
My wife & I went to one of his shows earlier this year. It was hysterical. He encourages heckling at his shows & his comebacks to the heckling are one of the biggest things he’s know for.
I've seen him live here in Canada at least once, maybe twice. When you're sitting waiting for the show to start, there's a big message on screen with a hashtag or something for that specific show and you can send him questions, messages, heckles, etc. And he then responds to a handful of them at the end of the show
What you have to remember is that we have learned to laugh during dark times. Imagine trying to keep your spirits up while the Germans are bombing the shit out of you. Dark humour is our coping mechanism. Jimmy is a genuinely nice guy. Check out his appearance on the "Big Nasty show" where they roast each other.
Lee Evans is hilarious to watch, very energetic, and is a observational Comedian you will not be disappointed you literally are in pain he is so funny....
Comedy is for comedy, it's there to make people laugh, and lift them up. Regardless of the subject. It's bizarre to me why people get triggered. It isn't real, talking about it won't make the scenario real. So stop acting like it is real. The space is for laughter. Love your channel dude, especially the Ren reaction videos :)
Jimmy is out there. And brilliant - he's an expert at just crossing that line and also an expert on the history of comedy (he's written books on the subject). Definitely an acquired taste, as is fellow Brit Frankie Boyle, who is just as brutal. It's so dark you can't help but laugh, and then feel bad about laughing! But with many of the subjects they deal with, if you can't laugh about it, you'd cry because we do live in a dark world at times. You should find some videos where Jimmy and/or Frankie interacts with the audience - Jimmy really messes with the head of hecklers!.
Jimmy Carr is a true genius and philosopher. His stand-up aside, check out his interviews. Whether it is with Joe Rogan or Charlie Pickering on ABC he is a true intellectual. He goes hard in the paint with his dark humor, but it is at the least calculated and at best a brilliantly crafted tightrope walk designed to elicit humor no matter the content. He is good, but I don't begrudge anybody that dislikes the content of his edgy material.
This guy is a very intelligent and great guy. Seriously, watch his interview on The Diary of a CEO channel called "Jimmy Carr: "There's A Crisis Going On With Men!"". I have mad respect for the guy after watching his heartfelt and considered thoughts about serious issues. You have to be very intelligent to come up with fast flowing jokes like he has for his entire career.
I saw Jimmy Carr last year at Carnegie Hall. He’s a British treasure. No one does risky cringe humor better. He also hosts some British panel and game shows. He’s quick off the cuff too. Gary Delaney is up there as well.
Don't forget Ricky Gervais
F.B. is a pussycat now since he's worked for BBC and writing for newspapers!
