I get stuck trying to cross the Saharan sand dunes of Morocco |S7 -E6|

- In this episode, I am exploring Erg Chebbi, the sand dune field at Merzouga. I am riding over 100 kilometers into the desert and try to ride some sand dunes along the way. I am inexperienced with sand dunes and my CRF300L Rally is heavy - Even though I didn't bring much luggage, a full tank of fuel will do the trick and I soon get buried into the sand with my rear tyre.

I think I made a mistake showing my mother your channel. Now everytime I get a bit lazy she goes like : well, noraly is riding a motorcycle around the world by herself but you can't go to the supermarket?! 😏🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't need my mother to tell that to me. I tell me myself! 😅😂
😂
😂😂😂😂
Always take the Dessert with a highly respect , Noraly hi.
I have been there in a Sand Storm and Atlas Hail it was some different than Germany.
😅
Anyone else wish they were riding in Morocco right now? 🥰
You have a beautiful country & amazing people Morocco 🇲🇦
Thanks and we will be happy to welcome you here.
Im also in love with my own country. Its fantastic and be Welkom to visit Morocco

I'd love to visit one day! Looks so beautiful ..
@@thearchibaldtuttle You must visit 😊
I'VE BEEN THERE,,AWESOME
My oh my. Getting to ride through the Sahara Desert of Morocco. Something most people can only dream about. Thanks for showing us this.
Agreed, its a dream for sure. Those desert landscapes are absolutely gorgeous.
@@shitholeworld A lot of people would beg to differ
@@shitholeworld Not if where you live you have beaches, forests, rivers, lakes, mountains. Then sand is different and interesting.
@@shitholeworld with that response, I can only assume you've never been into a desert, and so have no appreciation of how magnificent "just sand" can be. From the ever-changing landscapes, hues of colours, dune formations, ripples, textures, tones, lighting, remnants of former dwellings, flora and fauna etc. Deserts are incredibly beautiful in their starkness and so unbelievably "alive". They're one of my most favourite landscapes I've had the great opportunity to explore - from the Karoo, Kalahari and Namibian deserts in Southern Africa, to the Grand Bara, Nyiri, Danakil, Nubian and Sahara in north and eastern Africa - they're truly breathtaking! And, I can totally understand why Noraly loves riding there ...
@@shitholeworld surprisingly, deserts ARE living, alive and dynamic ecosystems. Understandably, not everyone's cuppa tea ... especially, the scorching heat by day, cold at night and pretty wild, blinding sand winds. It's quite something to experience. 😎😎
So Morocco looks like an amazing place to adventure, but I've always been most impressed at how much adventure you have on little bikes - really shows that it isn't the machine that makes the rider, but the rider that makes the machine!
Noraly, rules for riding the dunes: #1, don’t ride by yourself. #2, never go over the top of a dune you cannot see over. The windward side is usually pretty gently sloped, but the leeward side is often very steep and may have a witches eye at the bottom. This is like a funnel, and if you hit the bottom of the witches eye with any speed you will crash and likely get hurt. When you get to the crest of the dune, turn parallel to it, look over, then pick your path and go down. #3, stay in the tire tracks, this is where the experienced riders have ridden and is likely the proper route. If you go into virgin sand you will probably get stuck. #4 never stop going uphill, you will bury yourself trying to get going again. Get to the top, then stop. On a motorcycle speed is your friend, try to maintain as much speed as you can to float on top, slow down, you go down. And you know how much better a paddle tire works from the bike you rode in Idaho. If you can, put one of these on before you go to the dunes.
There is a rhythm to the dunes, you don’t just go up and down, you ride the bowls, crest the top and ride the next bowl. This is an acquired talent. Getting in rhythm with the dunes and flying through them is one of the most fun things I’ve done.
I'm pretty sure she's familiar with riding in sand. She's by herself because she's riding alone. Other than that, she makes the risks as safe as she can.
@@N1inSK She literally has said that she's never ridden in dunes like these before.
Thanks for taking the time Steve to share your experience with Noraly.
Some people never get it.
@@N1inSK It's obvious she does not safely ride the dunes.
No one on UA-cam injects more energy than Noraly with her signature 'Good Morning Internet!!!' Then we don our imaginary helmets & riding gear and set out to enjoy her adventures🥰
Stunning drone photography of the colours & patterns the wind draws on the desert. Thank you Noraly for showing me a side of Morocco that I never saw.
GO ITCHY BOOTS, GO ... 🏍🏍🏍
Beautifully said. Yes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday I don my imaginary gear, hop on to my bike and just follow Noraly wherever she goes 😊
@@Jay-lx7nk Thank you. I believe there is a great many of us who enjoy Noraly's adventures and look forward to her video posts. Have a great day and thank you for your comment.
Noraly shouting with delight at the freedom of riding those dunes is a sound to make me happy! 😊
I think a bulk of your 1.56M subs is due to your eternal optimism in the face of adversity. Loving this season.
I am from the north of Morocco in 2014 i have been in the same situation but with a car, i have been locking for help I found a group of children of about 12 years old playing with a ball in the middle of the desert I asked them for help and they ran away, 5 minutes later they came back with some branches with big leaves and they put them under the wheels and they asked me not to stop the car until I got to solid ground, they started to push the car and easily I came out of the dunes, these children saved my life
New Rule: When in the Sahara, always follow the tire tracks, never the camel tracks! So beautiful there; the video is fabulous, great production values as always. Look forward to seeing the desert garden bloom in the next episode.
The drone view - human trails through Nature's vast wind sculpture, with bits of vegetation, in spite of the terrain - really awe inspiring! And you have a great memory for narrating your previous research while on the trail, even remembering place names. The on-the-fly narration is a big part, imo, of what makes your journeys so fascinating.
Who was flying the drone while you were riding?
@@maxtaylor1026 She was flying it. She has really mastered the art of flying a drone while also focusing on riding. It's pretty awesome, really!
@@maxtaylor1026 her drone has option to fallow her....gps tracking ...
@@INTERNA9 Wow! How awesome that is! Good for her and her travels.
Beautiful Landscapes, Excellent Content And The Ride Of A Lifetime..Thank You Noraly. ✌👍🇨🇦
Yes, it's real life to discover what is natural and human. It's a very beautiful experience welcome to Morocco Nourali And every good and respected person in the world is welcome in Morocco, which is diverse in cultures and weather 👍
Never seen the spectacular Saharan Desert like this before. Great adventure, and thanks for taking us with you. Planet earth's geo-diversity is breathtaking -- as beautiful as it is daunting (and inspiring).
I mostly saw the option of turning back after lowering the tire pressure, yet I commend your tenacity. With heart failure, my wife of 43 years dying and hurricane Ida taking my belongings 3 months later. Medicines put me in the hospital for a few days. But I ride my C50 on curvy roads and do things my way and I`m still here. People like you are truly an inspiration. (Thank you, Noraly ;- )

The drone shots are pure cinematic magic! More, please! :D You are fortunate to be exploring all of this, and we're fortunate that you share it. Dankjewel! 👢🏍🌍💛
Erg Chebbi! My favorite part of Morocco. The sand is very fine, and you’re right: more power, less weight (and a merciless lack of mechanical sympathy) is the best way to get to the top. Never back off or you just get sucked in…
Loving this new adventure!
A better back tire would help as well. Although I haven't rode there myself, I have friends that have. As they put it- The way up those dunes is a big bore dirtbike with a good, sand friendly rear tire and lots of momentum. ;)
Hahaha. Love that wording "merciless lack of mechanical sympathy"
Love the trips and interactions but that episode bit flat, first time I’ve ever thought that and still looking forward to the next episode
@@stevenmeyer9674 Doesn't have to be a paddle. Just a more desert & sand friendly tire with bigger knobs and good spacing...Even an Ibex would work a lot better for what she's doing it you could get one in a harder compound....
I believe noraly shifts too often. It always sounds like she’s in 4th when she should be in 2nd. Think back to the cop in Latin America who drove right up the sandy hill. He just brapped the whole way up in 1st.. nothing special .. rpms vs torque. Love the show but I listen and I’m like nope sounds like wrong gear
At 70 years old, you make me want to start riding again. I sold my last bike almost 10 years ago. A BMW F650 . My arthritic hands and wife think I am nuts.
Thanks for the adventures Noraly! 😊
Both you and Alaska are beasts.
I’ve been going to ride the Morocco desert from 12 years ago. Last year I went with my family, so I rented a dacia 4x4 duster in marrakech. Amazing experience, repeating some desert tracks on car this time. We enjoyed a lot...And you know What? It’s easier to go by car when you go on sand. My wife loved it. Cheap travel. One week renting goes for 700 euro. Flights 120 euro for each one. Staying there 50 euro for the couple per day.
@@josephmccarthy2947 yes I now do my off roading and other travel in my Toyota 4x4. I used to spend alot of time in the southwestern USA deserts exploring when we lived in the west on both my bikes and my 4x4 trucks.
I would love to do what you suggest. I had a little Suzuki Sidekick that was awesome off road. Now we have Toyota SUVs.
I am 73 and planning to do the trans America trail. Part of it in a 4 wheel drive ford ranger and part of it on my DR 650. I am still working so it will take a couple of years to complete. Noraly inspires me seek out an adventure.

At 75, the body just does not seem to want to travel this way anymore, but my mind still does! I no longer have the bike, but do have a new Ford Escape with AWD. Makes me go "hmmm" !
I'm a grown man.
But today I broke down crying.
The tragedy of my life it just hurt too much.
Watching Noraly travel I was drawn into the memories of my travels in the 70's, 80's and early 90's.
I loved my Honda but it's gone now.
I had an accident at work.
My travels ended.
I don't walk very well these days.
My friends died and I'm still aching.
I've been exercising a lot and trying to get myself healthy so I can do one last trip.
You will get there, I am rooting for you. Nothing like the freedom, serenity, and internal calmness and joy that riding in nature gives you as you know. Have a great day.
Very cool video, and Alaska is the best motorcycle I've seen that easily overcomes obstacles. The Sahara desert is the most beautiful desert in the world.🙂👍 greetings from Ukraine

What a playground, that deep sand is very unforgiving so you did well to get out of there Noraly👍 Excellent video once again, can't wait for the next episode👍
I grew up in WV. Having no trees to dodge is very foreign to me. Moved South and had to ride some sand. Don't care for that at all.
Gorgeous contrasts between dunes and blue skies. With all those footprints, I thought you might bump into a camel train. Riding those dunes must have been such a blast! 😎
those shots with the drone following you.. amazing...
That sequence of escaping the dunes, the aerial shot and then the triumphant yell was epic. Gave me goosebumps.
Well done Noraly. I admire your positive approach to even the worst situations. Big thumbs up
Fantastic way to start the day: New ItchyBoots adventure into the dunes of the Sahara! 😁😁
Love the Smiles and Giggles!!
Pretty cool furry seat cover, had not seen that before.👍
Happy Trails, Noraly !! 💖🤩🏍🤠
Best ever feeling of freedom in the drone images
I am learning the perils of riding on the sand in the Sahara desert. It looks like the sand you found yourself riding through almost every other part of the world you have shown us. You have never really been stranded, only delayed a bit and you do all of it with a smile. I admire your spirit and determination. You have shown us, there is never a “never” in your plans, always “can do”, “will do” and “DONE”….. 👍👍
What a wonderful country ❤️
Not one to be intimidated, you approach any challenge with the same determination. Most of us would not deal with lesser challenges with the same gusto that you do. KUDOS to our intrepid Dutch traveler! It is no wonder you are followed and admired by folks all over the world. There is a LOT MORE SAND out there. Are planning on conquering it all? Be safe, prayers for safe travel are flowing your way.

Sometimes following the road less traveled….

That was not meant as a disrespectful comment I am speaking from 64 years of experience that sometimes I do get stuck in the sand and other times the rewards were well worth the effort!
Good job. Your camera systems are awesome.
I am Moroccan and I watch your episodes about Morocco. I really like your manners and the way you communicate with Moroccans. In addition to that, through you, I got acquainted with beautiful places in my country that I have not visited, and perhaps I will not be able to visit in the future...

Enjoyed this desert ride and the sand dunes are beautiful
It is always a wonder and a concern to see you walking through areas as inhospitable as the Sahara Desert. Although when you really need help, a guardian angel always appears to help and guide you. Always with you Noraly!!!
Mapcarta shows quite a few encampments around that dune field. I think much of it due to tourism.
Where is Roger when you need him😂
Technically this isn't part of Sahara. It's also very touristic with dozens of hotels and guest houses. She will be very hard pressed to get lost there intentionally.
Proof again! Noraly and Alaska can do dunes! Oh I’m stuck…but look how beautiful this place is! What fun day the dunes and sand provided. The drone footage sure gives perspective to the vastness. Great video, Noraly’
Bravest woman on the planet. Wonderful video, especially the drone shots. I fall over every time on my Himalayan when front wheel hits sand...
About 15 years ago, I took a car off a scrap heap, fixed it and drove it from the UK to edge of the Sahara in Morocco (and back). This is bringing back memories of getting stuck in the sand!...as well as the wonderful memories of driving around Morocco. I came across Noralie this morning and have now spent my day watching so many videos of her travelling across Africa where there has been some breathtakingly beautiful scenery. I started riding motorcycle when I was 12yrs old but sadly after a car accident I'm unable to ride now Obviously you came to riding much later in life but I'm glad you discovered it now it's amazing.
From a winter wonderland just a few episodes ago... to a massive sandbox playground, where we discover that it wasn't the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back 🐫.. but actually it was the kilo of dates that buried Alaska's back🏍😂
To enjoy the moment you have to be like a small kid again, not to be bogged down by the uncertainties and its consequences. That's what makes Itchy Boots videos so much more fun and exciting to watch. But I'm certain Noraly is wise enough to retreat from continuing if a situation calls for it, as she does on few occasions in previous seasons.
That was absolutly beautiful. The desert has its own special appeal. Thank you for showing us this georgeous landscape 🌼
Indeed, you are a strong woman with ten men, making your way through the sands of the Moroccan desert without fear, and despite the drowning of the bike, you took it out by yourself without help (indeed, you are strong) so that God protects you everywhere. Who would of thought so much sand could be so beautiful, but with your camera and drone work Noraly it is surly one of the worlds wonders. How you keep battling on in such situations is surly another, the dedication and determination you show is just simply on another level. So happy to see you winning through in what must of been just sheer hard work for you. Hoping you keep conquering your goals and do well in this adventure. Sadly we have lost ( for the time being anyway ) Eva Zu Beck, who is just as much admired by all, two great and talented lady's that the world needs right now. Keep safe as always Noraly, and thank you for making this world of ours such a much better place. 👍👑
One thing for sure you are not lacking in tenacity and common sense . In my motocross days the sandtracks taught us a lesson real quick . WE...had to totally change our riding styles in Sand. On the hard packed clay of Oklahoma , Deep rich soils of Missouri , Illinois and Arkansas we could go as fast as we had the guts to go . But in the sandy tracks of some Texas tracks you and the bike had to go at maximum speeds and revs or look like an absolute beginner . You did very well and you are smart enough to know your bike was too underpowered and heavy for deep sand . You are an amazing rider Loraly...your videos are probably in my top 3 . One is Kelly who does shark diving , Deep sea fishing , snorkeling and all things in nature ( she just went fishing for piranha) and a young lady in California who builds and races top level cars and has a real thirst for life are my favorites . You're all top level next generation women ! PK
The pre-view at the end of this video reminds me so much of my trip back in 1987. We were in a similar river oasis south of Errachidia. (pre-Sahara area) These canal systems are very clever designs specially for crop irrigation. Instead of letting all the water rush downstream they divert some of the water into narrow less declining slow flowing canals. Then they divert some of the water on a patch of land, then some on another patch of land. And so on. The local people grow all kinds of vegetables and dades, etc. Absolutely wonderful to see. So be sure to watch next episode!
That sand's got to be tough on the chain and sprocket, I would think, especially when It's buried in it. But, you did a fine job of wrestling the bike into the right direction. Remind me never to arm wrestle you. 😉 I love the anomalies that the Earth provides, like how large the dunes are at this one spot. Be safe out there, Noraly.
I was fully expecting a Bedouin to appear with some camels to dig you out. Your strength and determination are unmatched.
