Ive never gagged on a retainer, but once when my orthodontist was taking a teeth mould, the slime or w/e they use started slowly moving down over my uvula and down my throat. I started gagging and the nurse just put a hand on my shoulder and said "i know it tastes bad but itll be over soon". The way their eyes widened when they pulled out the teeth mould followed by a uvula mould and a throat mould, they knew they fucked up.
My ortho gave me a bite block but it's not those little blue dots, it's at the front of my mouth and it's connected to my brackets, I can't bite into anything unless it's like bread bc it covers the bottom of my front teeth and I can't chew anything thin(chips and queso 😤)bc my teeth in the back don't touch enough it's been almost two weeks and idk what to do abt it
You are so lucky, I can't have my sleep apnea treated because I can't handle the CPap and my gag reflex is way too strong for me to handle wearing the retainer that would open my airway while sleeping. They kept cutting that thing down to as far as they could but I still gagged.

When you slurp and feel the cold spit I gag so hard or I remember having to wear a guard for field hockey and I always had to Wash it with water or the cold spit would make me puke. The first time I wore my retainer after braces I puked right at the front desk so it’s a mix of both issues 😂😭
I had the thinner clear ones but I still had this feeling occasionally and now I’ll randomly feel like that when I’m dreaming sometimes and it’s so uncomfortable
The only good thing about missing half my teeth (I literally only have one adult molar on each side of my mouth) is I have never had this problem and never will
I have a really strong gag reflex where sometimes brushing my teeth will make me gag so I’m not excited for a retainer and I’m hoping it’ll be like my invisalign.
I hadn't worn my retainer in like 3 months. I am now trying to fix my teeth again (they aren't bad). I very much regret waiting so long. Luckily they can seat all the way so it should be fine but I am struggling to sleep rn. I regret my life choices lol. Wear your retainer people. Wear it.
I don't have retainers but i have a gum shield and i gag a lot ( especially if you have a cheap one that's not made by a dentist) but people with retainers prob have it worse so i feel for u if u do because my friend does and she says its a lot worse than a gum shield
i had an acrylic one and i’d remove it and put it back in when concentrating and a kid saw the food from lunch and suddenly my whole class would repeatedly “SHOW ME… eugh“
What annoys me is I was told by my orthodontist was I only had to wear my retainer for two years. First week at all times then for the next two years every night. After that I didn’t have to wear it. This is going on over a decade ago. Luckily my teeth haven’t moved all that much but watching these videos made me realise either the recommendations have changed or my orthodontist got it wrong. This was the same advice my siblings got back then as well.

Sadly, yes. I had braces and if you want to keep your teeth straight you will have to wear them consistently for your life. The good news is after a while you get used to them, only have to wear them at night, and if you want I found it's fine to wear them every other night and not every night
I grind my teeth and my nightgaurd did this to me, to the point where I was vomiting because of it. I’m 15 and my teeth are worn as if I were 60, almost completely flat. First time I saw my current dentist he said “We need to help her” 😅😅
