- With the MU-X stuck in two-wheel drive, the crew travel into the night in search of a camp spot. However, as the sun begins to fall, their journey takes a turn as they find themselves stranded on a steep incline with no way out in sight. Burning the midnight oil, it's now time for the team to utilise their winches and figure out a way to recover the entire convoy...

There a few things I would of done differently I would of dumped the trailers and just pulled everything up with the ram one at a time mux first then came back for the trailers

Yes that would've been my recommendation too. But I guess it wouldn't be a good look from a company promoting off-road trailers. Sadly, the whole situation came about because of the trailers.

@@jo_clarke1960 Fair call. But I do think trailers make things so much tougher on steep narrow tracks which are very common in the VHC. Just meeting another vehicle can be a major challenge on some tracks, let alone having to back a trailer.

The Vic High Country and camper trailers are not always compatible. 90% maybe, but not always. You should see it when it rains in there. A 4wd with a winch, front & rear diff locks, and a swag is a big enough challenge.

The moment you left Wonnangatta and headed up Herne Spur in the late afternoon I knew you were gonna be in for a hell of a night. When the VHC bites, it bites hard. And that is a serious hill of consequence.

Thought it was Herne spur. Got us one day d22 Navara ended up leaving it going back next day with spares n drove it out
….and if it had rained on Herne spur while they were trying towing a camper, they would probably still be there ……it’s a challenging hill at best of times .
That was intense! Edge of the seat type stuff, up the Cummins showing all 1100 NM right there!!

Once your Down In the Wonnanagatta Valley, it's a steap climb out & if it's raining forget it. Hence the seasonal track closures. I would have unhooked all the trailers left them at the bottom & dragged up the trailers one by one. Ram to 300 to dmax and bring up 1 x 1
Wasn't the rock or the Guard. It's the shit diff exploding and a common issue with the new Damx, MUX They blow up on the highway in 2 wheel drive.
Put a elocker or air locker to stop this issue and the anytime rear locker module. Think the Patriot Game giveaway Dmax has front locker

Dam what a episode, this has just become my favourite season so far, what a epic recovery to all involved. I kinda hope Justin does a review of this trip or at least that night on what went wrong, what they would do different, that was close to nearly turning to a really bad night.

Glad to see you all got out of it ok! Tough track with the complication of a stuffed diff. Hopefully some UVP is in order for the MUX and DMAX, those stock bashies are paper thin (we found out pretty quickly with ours).
You really have to invest in a Snatch block or the new multiplier ring you can run your winch line down and back and it takes all that pressure off of your winch

Not winching the MUX on its own was probably the stupidest part out of all of this.
Geez I couldn't imagine driving these high country tracks at night. Maybe take the kids to Disneyland a resort or something next time to make up for it lol

How much that ram weigh? Would hve thought they would have fitted a bigger winch. Looked bloody hard work for all and Rob as the winch man, jeez the energy he must have. Think its time for Mum to introduce Mia to big girl pants.
Respectfully your explanation lacks understanding, why not winch the rear vehicle to release the weight of the ram then winch the ram?
Engineering is about understanding loads and minimising the load.

@@Croozzen having travelled that area many times I would have turned around gone back down the bottom of the hill, camped the night. Left the trailers there towed the Isuzu out in the daylight and come back for the trailers. Would have been very easy that way. The high country isn't the best place to take a trailer at the best of times.

But that's not gonna make exciting video to watch...🤷 I've done some time in there to with a camper trailer but setup base camps and did most of the tracks without the trailer.I sure as shit wouldn't tow a trailer on that one. It's crazy steep just with the car alone.
Says it all in my opinion, lack of research and we're Patriot we can do anything. Surely you would have known the profile of the track you were about to tackle. You seemed surprised at how steep it was. Question is why?

Did you have your eyes shut.... from the 30 minute mark on, he was pretty sideways on that track, and if you know this track, he was close to having a balls up big time. This track is crazy enough without towing anything....
