  • Setting out to find a new home in the 18th century was a dangerous and lonely enterprise for many. There were few established roads, few places to re-supply and few laws on the frontier. Dangers abounded on every hand from not only natural predators but also from the hostile and warring tribes that inhabited the region.
Note: This is a work of fiction. While some of the names, places and dates are historical fact, the story line itself is meant solely for entertainment and educational purposes. Any other resemblance to any actual person, living or dead, business establishments, events or locales is entirely as part of the fictional story.
A special thank you to the YMCA at Camp Kern, Ohio for letting me use their cabin!

Top notch! Thank you. I am reminded of a favorite quote once shared by Marshall Trimble, Arizona State Historian. "All America lies at the end of the wilderness road, and our past is not a dead past, but still lives in us. Our forefathers had civilization inside themselves, the wild outside. We live in the civilization they created, but within us the wilderness still lingers. What they dreamed, we live, and what they lived, we dream."
    T. K. Whipple, “Wilderness Road”

I like the part about the rifle being stored over the fireplace. A common thing to do back then that a lot of gun enthusiasts today do not understand even though they may have a vintage or replica rifle hanging over their real or faux fireplace for show. It was a good place to store your rifle particularly in humid environments to keep it from rusting. Fireplaces back then were in use all seasons since people did most of their cooking with them as well as heated their cabins in the winter. I kept my replica but working Kentucky long rifle over my fireplace in my Costa Mesa townhouse for decades for that reason rather than just showcasing my conservative roots plus it was one of my favorite guns to shoot. I had a large fireplace since the building was old and built by a Swede so I cooked in my fireplace regularly as well as used it for winter heating without worrying about creosote build up since it was easy to sweep. It kept my rifle from rusting even though I lived just a couple of miles up from the beach and had moist salty air blowing in all of the time.
A side note apparently one can no longer use the word to describe ones self as a person whos neck tends to reflect a lot of red light without getting their comment deleted by the UA-cam algorithm.

Love it! The music was a little distracting but the detail was very enjoyable.

Thanks! As this was the first episode it took me awhile to get everything balanced out properly. We are now filming for episode 15 and I hope that you continue to like the series!
