Love this channel, it's very underrated! Could you do a tutorial on the American hand action of keeping the blade square through impact for longer? The left wrist looks flexed/bowed at the top of the backswing in your image.

Great video, superb explanation of the concept. Will be nice if you demo the draw and fade with the driver. My attempts to draw often ends up a hook, perhaps I’m flipping the palms over too soon? Thanks

Luther, to what extent is the use of the forearms in shaping the shot - imparting draw or fade spin, affected by alignment, i.e. moving left or right around the circle. It would seem from the lesson that both achieve similar affects.

Hi Craig - Alignment of itself doesn’t create fade or draw spin - it does help to start the ball on its initial path.
There are 2 ways of shaping shots - you can use the path and you can use the face. Within those two is a 3rd option - a mix of path and face manipulation.
It’s a big subject - I’ll try to find you a video clip. Luth

wouldnt it be less prone to timing issues to hit say, a draw, by aiming right but regripping the club slightly closed to path, then swing normally? It seems to me if you are relying on more moving parts you're going to get more potential mistakes....?

Hi Toby - I take your point. Your suggestion is what’s called a face fade/draw as opposed to a path fade/draw.
Turning the face is like playing with a tennis racquet twisted down to help topspin - all very well until you want to play a little backspin drop shot.
Playing a “path” fade or draw is much safer than manipulating the face AND the shaft when you twist the face at address.
Thanks for your interest and keep your questions coming, kind regards,
      Luther

@@lutherblacklockgolfcom Regarding the cocking of the wrists....this moves the clubhead approx in the plane of the club face (well, imagine a one iron anyway). This plane is at 90 degrees to the aim direction, so how does this rotation thru 90 happen?

Hi Toby - the wrists of them selves would create a cocking at 99degrees to the post, But, because the forearm bones rotate and the arms and shoulders rotate and twist simultaneously, the vertical wrist cock is conformed to live in the plane of the wooden peg.
I think I’m going to do a series on the “Swing Plane”.

@@lutherblacklockgolfcom so, uncocking gets the club moving in a target direction with the forearms still rolled lead over trail (as they still are on the downswing) then at the last moment you roll the arms so that the face is square? (together with rotation of the body).....that's one heck of a timing issue! No wonder golf is hard!
