Besides the awesome information let's appreciate the fact, that this man made a life sized cardboard-cutout of himself for a dad joke. You sir, are awesome!

It would be interesting to see slow motion of a series of someone doing katra. My bet is that they are not moving the bow while the arrow is on the string.

I have a video of that on my channel, "alibow xuanwu khatra practice." Khatra is a combination of the bow hand expanding backward through the release (due to compression of the archer's back muscles) and the bow string rotating away from the archer (due to bow hand torque). I'm still a beginner but the camera angle was pretty good and the video fairly clearly shows both of these effects occurring before the arrow clears the bow thumb. Projectile speed was around 58m/s with a 44g/250spine arrow.

It occurred to me during my practice this evening, that it would be really nice to slow the shot down so that I could feel the follow through, the bow jumping forward, the moment that the sling catches it. I know that all of these things fall, outside of the .02 seconds, but maybe I should set up a camera and film myself?

So how do you explain the phenomenon of throwing the bow, some archers sometimes do, me included. I've captured it on 1200 fps video one time and I could see my bow move slightly during the release. My theory would be that right before the clicker the archer knows that he is not in the middle, and feels that it's time to click, so he sets in the motion of throwing the bow in the direction of the gold.

I agree, the action has to start before the clicker. In fact, it may be part of how the archer actually comes through the clicker. If the archer has tension in the bow hand, trying to push it forward at the instant of the release, then his hand is already 'spring loaded', and it will throw the bow.

Thank you. I am aware that many of my viewers are not native English speakers, so I try to keep my terms and my pace very easy to understand. Pero, puedo hablar espanol bastante bien si tu tienes algunas preguntas. I can also laugh in 'Span-glish' - hajahajahaja :)

Anything "After the release" makes no sense since the arrow clears the bow so fast, you cannot influence it. Everything that influences the arrow has to start before the release happens (f.e. movement of the bow, collapsing ...).
