We've all seen a movie where there are these strings that sound SO AGGRESSIVE!
How do they do that? Here's my approach...

Great video. Searching for the right stacc strings was almost an obsession of mine for awhile. Found a blend of libraries and processing that gave me what I wanted :)
I remember once you said shoot for 3 layers. A big wet one, a small dry one, and an aggressive one. I was able to use HWS for my base "wet" sound with room mics and convolution reverb. Ark 1 for the aggression, and Performance Samples Fluid Shorts 2 for the definition. Worked great

And can you please tell me which reverbs do you use ?
It would be really helpful ☺️

would CSS be good for a base wet sound?

    • @acidhendrix

@@shreyas_shiralkar Sorry for late response. Hws is hollywood strings like the other gentleman said. As far as reverb I use a combination of convolution and algorithmic.. I use the stock HWS reverb "S Cal Hall" to put them in a room.. then to add the tail I just use my stock DAW verb set to however long I want

Awesome and very useful stuff. I would extremely appreciate it if you please define which libraries you used in this video? The bottom-end cellos and double basses sound so beefy and sharp.

In dis particular case most of it is CineStrings... with a bit of Spitfire Symphonic Strings. I also use CSS a lot these days (but I didn't show them in this vid)

Hey Marc, a question unrelated to the video. Do you prefer keyswitches or expression maps? I'm still testing out both to find out which is best for me. I like keyswitches but I always forget what keyswitch is for what articulation, and I have to delete all the keyswitches when I'm exporting midi to make the score, etc. But with expression maps, I find that they take so long to make. What do you use and which one do you think is best Marc?
Thanks for the videos btw, the quality is improving a lot ;)

    • @CinematicComposing
      @CinematicComposing  2 роки тому +1

Great question Bara. Thank for the input Lolo
I don't do expression maps... takes too much time 😅🤣 Plus it's an added layer of "configuration". I try to keep things as "out the box" as possible. So I prefer keyswitches.
Regarding keyswitches vs different-tracks-for-articulation... In my template is a combination of both. But when using KS, I like to at least separate Long KS and short KS patches

Good day to you Marc. I have been watching some of your videos today and recommended your channel to my wife, who works as a composer for south korea's biggest video game company.
Actually, I'm in the process of building a workstation for her and I have come to learn that you are an expert on this topic.
Sticking to 4K dollar budget, i intend to just build a single machine. Keep it clean and simple.
I have just one question. My wife expressed that she needs 128gb of ram because she uses many virtual instruments and hundreds upon hundreds of tracks. But I'm wondering if she is getting this right or wrong. It sounds like an insane amount of ram. I'm planning on storing everything on 4tb nvme. Do you think 64gb of ddr5 ram in combination with 4tb nvme would do the trick?
    Cheers!
