  • 5 Quick fixes for bumpy skin - achieve smoother skin, remove bumps on face and get rid of keratosis pilaris with these amazing skincare products.
Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin. Today we are talking smoother skin and how to remove bumps on the skin and tackle skin texture.
Who doesnt want baby soft skin and a smoother complexion, however at some point in our skincare journey we all suffer with bumps under the skin and skin texture which can knock our skin confidence. Well whether your bumps are Keratosis Pilaris on the body or clogged pores on the face, these 5 tips will help smooth everything out.
Whether you have KP ( Keratosis Pilaris ) also known as chicken skin to milia or fungal acne these skincare hacks will help to smooth the skin and bring back your confidence.
Start with an amazing exfoliator, gentle enough for using every other day but effective enough to remove the dead skin cells and smooth out the skin surface. The move to some calming and soothing serums which will minimise irritation (one of the biggest causes of skin texture) finally make sure you have azelaic acid and urea in your skincare routine to smooth out the skin and soften the cells leaving you with a major glow up and enviously smooth skin.
I would love to know what your holy grail products for smoother skin are so please leave them in the comments section below.

I had terrible KP on by thighs/butt and absolutely destroyed it with alternating 12% glycolic AHA and the CeraVe psoriasis cream, which stars salicylic acid and urea, plus exfoliation with a shower mitt and daily moisturizing. It took a few weeks but now those areas are actually *smooth,* which I never thought possible. You have to stay on it, though! Regularity is key. ^_^ thanks for this vid!

I am SO HERE for your urea enthusiasm, I've been perplexed for years that it hasn't been a front-and-center superstar skincare ingredient. I bet we'll be hearing about it from other influencers now ^_^ Bravo!

Yay! I'm so glad you mentioned urea, it's totally transformed my skin as well. My holy grail combo for smooth skin has been the Enlivaderm Hydrating Serum with 20% urea by Medline, paired with shea butter in the evening. I know 20% urea is not generally recommended for the face and will be overkill for some skin types, but I really wanted to test the exfoliating properties of urea at the 20% and see if I could make it work. It stung my skin a little at first, but after many months of use, it no longer does. I now get the hydrating and softening benefits of urea while still using it at a percentage that gives significant chemical exfoliation (concentrations below 20% will still have a keratolytic effect, but probably not enough to replace your regular AHA) After applying my urea serum at night I slug with shea butter, which is calming, emollient, and occlusive without being too heavy. I suffer from a lot of transepidermal water loss throughout the evening, and this combo has been the only thing that ensures I wake up with soft, hydrated skin the next day.

I personally didn’t know about urea and another comment (can’t find it) stated it was urine. So I googled, and while urea is a component found in mammal urine it is made synthetically in a lab for the purposes of cosmetics / skincare. So no, you’re not putting urine on your face.

I've seen urea in quite a few vegan-certified products so I was pretty sure there had to be a synthetic formula out there these days!

For facial skin I do believe that Tretinoin has had the most significant effect on texture. For the body I’m a great believer in plain old water for cleansing. In the shower I wash my armpits (and down there 👇!!) with Eucerin wash and that’s it! I also have taken fish oil for around 16 years (since my daughter was around 8, bought them to help her in her school work and of course she wouldn’t take them!). I do believe they help skin to stay soft. If I do have any dryness on the body I’ll slather a bit of CeraVe lotion on.
I have just ordered that Purito Oat moisturiser a couple of hours before this video based on a recommendation over on the Facebook page 😀

Retinoids are the thing that overhauled my skin in many ways, but texture was a big one! I would get the little bumps on my forehead from microcomedones and salicylic could only do so much. Retinoids, effectively differin in my case, totally changed that! Will never stop using! On my body, Im using the cerave SA cream (3% salicylic!!) on my arms for KP. Has been the most effective thing i've used, though i still dont have 100% clearance :(

    • @miriza2
      @miriza2 2 роки тому

For what it’s worth, Neutrogena Hydroboost overnight lotion (only available from Walmart in the US) has helped the KP in my arms more than the Cerave SA cream. But I know we are all different

I seemed to always have a little bit of texture on my forehead (not acne or congestion.) I finally smoothed my skin out by using the Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating Treatment, as I have discovered that I must use salicylic acid... because my texture was a build up of skin. (Being 59 and my skin turnover slowing to a snail's pace!) The other thing I changed was I stopped using The Ordinary's niacinamide, which has zinc in it and is very drying. I changed to the Good Molecules niacinamide which is very hydrating. Along with a retinol, urea, and ceramides, my skin is now totally smooth!!🥳🥳🥳

I have texture because of a bunch of tiny scars from a car accident. All the glass shattered, and stuck in my skin. It resembles a mid type acne scarring, and is just super frustrating. I actually looked in a mirror as little as possible for over a decade. Yep, hate it that much. But, I couldn't hide from life forever. So, I am always trying to find an adequate and helpful routine. Urea is a new recommendation. I'll have to give it a try.
    PS thank you. 🥰

My skin is so unbelievably bright and smooth since I use Timeless Vit C-E Ferulic acid serum in the morning and Laroche Posay Redermic Retinol treatment at night. I've used it for 3 months now (without redness or flaking) and I will never go back to my old routine!!

Hi Robs retinoids are also great for texture - especially for making the pores look more refined. Improving the collagen and elastin plumps out the skin around the pore, whereas age related sagging can make them look for pronounced.
I use a 30% urea cream with salicylic acid on my elbows, knees and feet (SVR Xemose) - works great on my super dry and eczema prone skin. Surprisingly with the dryness and eczema I do have, KP isn't a major concern for me - could be all the skincare I use on the body lol. I can and do often use the Altruist 10% cream on my face as a night cream, but I am very dry (plus rosacea and eczema). I also use lactic acid on the body once a week - the Ammeliorate fragrance free lotion. It's a bit spendy at around £22, but as I only use it in a thin layer once a week lasts a while. I seal it in with my regular thick moisture cream (prescribed by my GP - zerobase), which I use daily anyway.
I do have some texture on the face, but I feel azelaic acid does a great job in keeping my pores clear and texture to a minimum. I use all 5 of the ingredients mentioned and considering how dry my skin is naturally - it's pretty smooth really all told. Daily skincare to face and body makes a massive difference for me, but the right ingredients are important. Best wishes.

keratolytics such as retinol, AHA, BHAs, and urea can help as suggested for KP. I suggest buying a product with multiple actives. My holy grail products are any 10% urea lotion and Amlactin (12% lactic acid), Cerave Psoriasis & Cerave SA Smoothing Crea (urea, salicylic, lactic).
For those who live in the States, Cetaphil just released a 20% urea lotion.

Hi Robert, I bought jelly cleanser from geek n gorgeous based on your recommendation in several of your videos a while ago. I just started using it lately and I really like it , previously I was using la roche posay soft gel cleanser so it took me a few days to get used to the gel , non-foamy consistency from this jelly cleanser. I thought it s going to leave a film on my skin, but it doesn’t! My skin is so soft and fresh everytime I use it. So thank you for recommendation. Could you do a video on “ best n worst from brand Noid” if it’s possible ? Thank you n love from the down under

Rob do you have any recommendations for sebaceous hyperplasia? I've got quite a lot of bumps now, including a couple of small clusters developing. I've tried stuff like Paula's Choice and nothing helps. I'm 61 now and have combination normal /dry skin with lots of empty open pores, so I moisturise like mad to keep my skin plumped up as possible to minimise the sebaceous hyperplasia. Any advice would be much appreciated. Xx

I also discovered The Ordinary’s Resveratrol and Ferulic Acid and it’s so great, especially with a vitamin C moisturiser!

I've been curious to try TO Resveratrol &FA, but heard it could be quite irritating and drying and not sure how my skin would react to it. Did you experience anything like this? What is your skin type? Do you mind sharing what good this product did for you? Thanks x

@@nasianikolova No, not really. I have normal to combination skin (I guess) :
I have to be careful because can get oily but I can get dry and irritated as well, if I use the wrong products. But my skin isn’t very sensitive and I consider my skin as normal with no real problems. But a skin can always GET problems, and we don’t want that 🙂
The Ordinary’s Resveratrol 3% & Ferulic Acid 3% is an affordable product that I am so satisfied with! It’s got a little oily feel to it, so just a couple of drops does the trick. It says on the product that it’s best to layer it last of all the serums that are water based but before moisturisers. I prefer to use The Inkey List Vitamin B C and E Moisturiser or Leneige Radiance (their vitamin C moisturiser) because I’ve heard that the combination Furulic acid, vitamin C and vitamin E (aka Tocopherol and Tocopherol Acetate in skincare) really boosts each other and packs a powerful punch 👍👍 It made my skin smooth, literally over night. So I’ve used it on my arms, my chest, everywhere.
Because a little goes a long way and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg 👍👍
      I can really recommend it!
But since it can give quite an oily feeling, I prefer to use it over night or when I’m at home and not under makeup or heavy creams.
