There are more great players this year than in any year in the last 50 or so I've been a fan. Luka is absolutely amazing, but he isn't going to win the MVP with the Mavs in 8th place. When the dust clears, I can't see Shai getting it over Jokic, but if he does, I'll be happy for him. For him to be shooting 54% for the year is truly amazing. @rossbrydie937 If you watch the games you would see it's actually the coaching which is the problem. Kidd gives guys like THJ 20+ minutes when he only scored 3 points. None of the teams ahead of the Mavs would trade their 3rd and 4th best players for the Mavs 3rd and 4th best players. Team success takes more than 1 or 2 great players, especially in a conference as loaded as the current Western Conference.
Luka is the MVP Most valuable Player You also take this into consideration, you take Luka off the Mavs then they are probably the Hornets rn. Better organizations account for the Ws.
To answer the questions, yes, Luka will likely have multiple MVPs in his future. He has been in MVP talks since joining the league. He has been spectacular.
It's 2024 and we still debating if the MVP is "best player on the best team" award. If you take Luka out of that Dallas team they would be in contention for a lottery pick. As far as a "Most Valuable Player" goes, there's absolutely no question who deserves that award
I've always hated how in any sport you can have a player who is easily as equally valuable to their team as other players and yet because the team itself doesn't have as good of a record There's somehow not looked at for these awards. It's why these awards are so annoying every year.
I agree with Shaq, the team record is not the main criteria, the stats and how good they are is first. Westbrook and Jokic won as 6th seed so should Luka.

It's not about Edwards vs Doncic, the issue is that Jokic and Shai exist. You can't win with a low seed if there are strong candidates with the top seed
Exactly. Lukas stats put him in the convo, but then he loses to the similar mega stat guys who have had more team success. I’m a huge Luka fan but it is what it is. Some of Luka’s antics and dogging plays does hurt them in ways that don’t show up in the stats but do reflect on the teams success. Luka will have his moment though, the great ones eventually do.
I also think Luka is inherently the better player than SGA but for MVP voting it will go to SGA even though he clearly has a better team around him. They’ll both be first team all nba.
Lebron didn't win his first NBA title till he was 27 and he heard similar complaints. But Luka is a better, more versatile offensive layer than lebron ever was, and especially at the same stages of their careers - when the Mavs beat his Heat, he had no go to shot. What Doncic needs is a better more consistent dedication to D, more self control, and better teammates, especially a front line player who can shoot and score.

Yeah thats true. But what helped Westbrook is that nobody averages a triple double in decades. Value is how much does the individual make a difference. If you take Luka out of Mavs we're not in top 12. Luka has dragged that team to playoffs and now with the recent trades we're going to fight for top 4. If these Value discussions are going to be about team performance then Wemby shouldn't even be in the the conversation for Rookie of the year.
The sad truth is that it is also important that your team has to be at the top of the table so that your chances of winning the MVP trophy are higher. Luka is just unlucky that he plays for a team that doesn't offer him much. Every Dallas fan can complain, but the fact is that Dallas is not a successful team and without Luka, Dallas would probably be significantly further down in the table. If you look at Luka, he has deserved an MVP for a long time, the young man has gotten better every year. If we want to be honest, Luka is simply playing for the wrong team. For example, if Luka had ended up with the Suns (just an example!!!) then I would bet he would already have 2 titles and 2 MVPs in his pocket. And the sad thing is that Luka is happy in Dallas, which means he will stay there but as a fan of Luka you just think the boy could win a lot of titles like MJ but that won't happen because he's staying with a team that doesn't do anything for him brings because no matter how good you are, you also need good teammates and he doesn't have them and no matter who leads Dallas, they have never been good at building a strong team...waste of time for Luka
Without Luka the Mavs would be having a Pistons type year, not as bad but not too far either. Need his playmaking, seen so many games where Luka sets up open shots and they miss them back to back, numbers don't lie he has the highest ppg, 3rd in assists. Better defense and maybe get rid of Jason Kidd the Mavs would be insane
Shaq is right. I get rewarding winning but nobody in the league this season is more valuable to their team than luka, besides maybe jokic. As long as they’re in the playoffs they should realistically be eligible for mvp if they’re having as historic of a season as luka is
I wish I didn't come here after just watching @jxmyhighroller video(yes I'm name dropping) on Luka, because he just proved what these guys are saying. An individual MVP award shouldn't be based of where the team finishes. It's Most Valuable PLAYER overall...in the entire league for the season...regardless of team position.
It’s certainly an interesting question. Luka is playing at a level we have seldom seen. And it’s not simply stat padding. With the efficiency, assists, and how his number correlates to winning, he’s playing great. However, they aren’t wrong that it’s a team award. He needs to learn to either lead his team differently than stats, or find ways to upgrade the team through proactive building with the FO. Without the wins, even if it isn’t stat padding, it’s empty
If people would like to play with the semantics, sure MVP is PLAYER and not TEAM. The reality however in which the NBA operates is that the players impact is directly correlated with team success. While I stated above he is far more than a simple stat padder, as his teams record doesn't reflect his carry, it's hard to give him that award when people with slightly less gaudy numbers have vastly more wins.
Most valuable PLAYER. Man luka is the best at the moment. Close with his bro jokic ! Shaq said it right it’s an indépendant reward ! Doncic better than antman ! Doncic just beating ass in the league right now !

The Mavericks were second in injuries this season, the team was nowhere near complete for almost the entire season and Luka still held the connection to the top 7 in the West. If they didn't have so many injuries, they would now be among the top 2 or 3 in the west.
Luka Doncic in the basic categories number of points per game, rebounds, assists, number of points per game and fantasy points Luka is better than Tatum, Janis, SG and Jokic and holds the first place except for rebounds where he has almost 10 and assists where he is third. . Check the stats and admire the artist. Shame on you for constantly mentioning the team's ranking as the main criterion. This is an individual award. Luka is a magical genius and MVP 2024.
The weight attributed to team success in this, an individual award, is a complete joke. I'm not saying you should be the MVP off the back of a below .500 season, but the Mavs are winning more often than not and are priming up for what looks to be a decent run in the PlayOffs, predominantly off the back of what will go down as one of the most impressive statistical seasons in NBA history.
LUKA IS THE BEST PLAYER OF THE NBA RIGHT NOW PERIOD. SHAI, JOKIC, GIANNIS, AND ANT COMES AFTERWARDS. HE IS DEFINITELY IN HIS PRIME AND THE MOST DOMINANT PLAYER ON THE COURT.
Unfortunately, Luka’s getting the “Josh Allen” treatment. Allen had 44 overall TD, Lamar had 29 overall TD, yet Lamar won MVP because Ravens had #1 seed. (Bills had #2 seed) I don’t get it. MVP is who’s the best player statistically THAT YEAR. Luka can’t play all 5 positions the same way Allen can’t play defense & ST. Don’t punish the individual player having an outstanding year just because his teammates are injured / not great. MVP is NOT a team award- A Championship is- MVP is individual! These players are putting up All-Time great numbers & getting robbed. MVP is broken.
only shaq has a clue in this one. you can be the best player on any given season but can't get on those top spot because your team was much weaker fron other. mvp should not only factor on who the best player on those top teams. remember the term most valuable. so it should be who has the greater value and impact on the team win or loose. what your team will become without you. so if your on an any playoffs team you should have a consideration if you are performing well

Shaq told it like it is, Luka is the baddest mofo in the league for sure, meaning he is the best player. He should definitely be MVP this year because none of the other players are better than him, and it's not his fault that the team is not doing as well as as some of the others. If you look at total production, ability, he's got everyone beat. He's the best player I've ever seen, and a lot of people are trying to ignore the fact that he is the baddest mofo in the league, like Barkley. And I'll save this for the record, Luka is a lot better than Barkley ever was or ever could be. He has the most all-around game I've ever seen any other player possess, that's the truth. To me, that makes him the greatest player of all time. He is better at more things, more aspects of the game than any other player that's ever played. His production is unbelievable for the minutes played. I appreciate Shaq pointing that out here. And Shaq is absolutely right, there's nobody on Minnesota better than him, there's nobody on any other team better than him. It shouldn't be based on team performance, the MVP. It should be based on total production, how much the player means to his team, how much he had to do with each and every win of the year. Also, he makes other players better, he plays unselfishly because he gets everyone involved, it's very sad to see guys like Barkley continue to put him down, he already has a lot more triple doubles than Larry Bird did in his whole career, and Larry Bird was a great player, one of the greatest actually. The fact is, Luka is a lot better than Larry Bird ever was, and that is saying an awful lot
Luka won EuroLeague Finals & he got the EuroLeague Finals MVP -- at 17 years old. He's been NBA first team 4x.. his stats are nearly identical to Lebron's stats, if u compare their first 5 or 6 years in the league. He got to a Western conference finals. LeBron did same, he got to a Finals early on with Cleveland, but he didn't win. Luka is phenomenal. He is just different, his style of play is more similar to LeBron in his 30s, he isn't as explosive and, I mean, he has a 40 inch vertical, which is not shabby. But he doesn't jump out the gym. In the US, a premium is out on athleticism, on qualities like high vertical jumps, and the average white player does not have this. It isn't a bad thing, it just means that they'll have to make up for it with a little extra space & separation, and the entertainment w/high flying isn't there. But at the end of the day, the reality is nobody in the league can guard Luka, nor have they been able to guard him since he came into the league. He's put up 60 points, several 50 points games, he has done everything except win a title. He isn't like Jayson Tatum, being on a team like the Celtics, where they have all the pieces. And even he hasn't won a title. But his stats are not comparable to Luka. Luka is a top-5 player in the league, and it's a league with so many talented guys. The league is great. But ppl need to stop finding reasons to not give this man his due, bc he is really good.
Here's something to think about... Embiid has missed quite a bit of time and the Sixers have gone from 2nd in the East (I think) to 7th... does that make him most valuable to his team? 🤔
35ppg, 9 rebounds, 10 assists, 1.5 steals, 50%fg. 78%ft for the season............Last month 38.4ppg, 10.7rebounds, 12 assists, 1.5 steals, 53%fg, 84%ft............HE BASICALLY AVERGING 38 POINT TRIPLE DOUBLE FOR THE MONTH AND 35 POINT TRIPLE DOUBLE FOR THE SEASON ON OVER 50% FG AS A GUARD!!!!! HOW IS HE NOT THE MVP???
MVP is about contribution to the team, not about how high you can put your team in the rankings. For me, the fact that Dallas is 8th seed is mostly Luka. You take him out they are maybe 13th in the west, you take out any other 2 players from the team they are still at least 10th. If a player has good enough stats and efficiency and can put his team in play to win an NBA title which for me is at least 8th seed (the old system) that means his excellence brought them into contention for winning it all and he deserves to be seriously considered for the MVP award. Now i do agree that if a team is idk 12th for ex, that player will have better stats just for the fact that his teammates are so bad because it's all on him and he didn't actually achive anything by not putting his team into the playoffs so his stats are at the end of the day "useless". I don't get this obsession with rings when considering for GOAT (I'm pretty sure that Aaron Rodgers could win 7 rings with Patriots) and i don't understand this, "they must be top 3 seed for a player to win an mvp", just ridiculous.
Barkley was about to say you can't get mvp from the 6th spot even tho jokic and westbrook both did while putting up smaller numbers then luka is this year. If the mavs hit 6 or better and luka don't win it; it's a damn shame
When Russ won MVP in 16-17 season, OKC finished 6th and lost in five games in the first round. He won only because he averaged a triple-double, and Luka's season is just as impressive (to say the least). Give this man the title he deserves!
But its in the name. The most VALUABLE player. Not the best player of one of the best teams. The most VALUABLE player. The Mavs without Luka are basically the pistons or the wizards. With Luka they are within a 1 to 2 game span of a 6th or 5th standing in one of the most stacked eras the league has ever seen if not the most. The Wolves without Antman can still beat most other teams in the NBA, just aswell as OKC and Celtics can without Shai or Tatum. But the Mavs without Luka cant beat the other teams arena upkeep staff. In regards to single player impact he is certainly the most valuable player for his team.
Isn't MVP supposed to be a player that a team couldn't do without, if that is the case then Mavericks without Luca wouldn't amount to much. Luca makes all his teammates better when on the field, he scores and makes assists that in majority lead to scoring, and just with his presence and drive makes everyone around him wanna perform. Am I wrong on this, isn't that what an MVP is??
What’s funny is, had Luka not been missing 85% of his teammates for a majority of the season Mavs very likely could be in the top 4 right now. Injuries have to be accounted for with their current ranking and thus can’t be a knock on Luka’s MVP consideration
To actually answer the question instead of just saying their 2024 roster isn't good enough for him to ever win one in his career on any roster, then do an Antman comparison; my official prediction is 1. He has the talent to win many MVP's & I hope he does (him and Kyrie are my favorite players; wasn't even a Mavs fan before they got there), but factors like team success, injuries, voter fatigue & other talent will always serve as roadblocks for a string of MVP's. The biggest factor is will he end up being the leader of a championship team, which to a capacity isn't up to him. I don't see him signing somewhere else, so his fate is somewhat up to free agent signings, lucky draft picks & good development of other talents. I fully believe that if he's on a roster that can be a top 3 seed in the league, he will do so & he will have a good chance of winning MVP. I predict he'll consistently hover around 5th seed & not win. Then near the tail end of his prime they'll make extra acquisitions, go hard & make it happen 1 time. Or the league will have a down year & he'll go Toronto Raptors Kawhii mode on the league (but actually play games).
Shaq is right, the assumption of the others is that if the team is not within the first 4 players then it is the players fault is an oversimplification. What matters us how much better a player a team makes.
Chuck is right. If Minnesota stays 1 seed that means Ant is gonna be putting up performances like he did last night. naturally his stats will rise to rival Jokic and SGAs. However, I don't think the wolves can keep the 1 seed and in that case the mvp is likely going to go to either SGA or Jokic depending on who finishes higher in the standings.
That's great and all but can we at least consider the context here? "OMG they're 8th in the west!" yeah and they're 3 wins from 4th, also they're 7th currently not 8th. "OMG he has Kyrie and they aren't winning!" cause Kyrie has been injured constantly this season as has the rest of the team "Your team has to be at the top for you to get MVP!" no, they gave it to Westbrook cause he had an insane enough season to overcome that, is an efficient 34 9 10 not insane enough?
this one of the most stupid ranking criterion ever. Player is dependent of teammate that have scoring of 0/6 in 3pt to win Mvp. For team is ring and for player is mvp and it should be like this.

Lebron didn't win his first NBA title till he was 27 and he heard similar complaints. But Luka is a better, more versatile offensive layer than lebron ever was, and especially at the same stages of their careers - when the Mavs beat his Heat, he had no go to shot.
MVP translates to "best player in the NBA" - PLAYER - and as of right now this is Luka, as simple as that...
MVP is an individual award. Team record is only consideration. Wemby should not win any awards due to record and Chet should be ROY.
As long as they’re in the playoffs they should realistically be eligible for mvp if they’re having as historic of a season as luka is
if they are top 4 not only he'd be in the conversation, man should be hands down the unanimously MVP
Without the wins, even if it isn’t stat padding, it’s empty
a championship is a team award. mvp is an individual award. i know that's not how it's awarded but i don't agree with it.
convo should just be between jokic and luka, Luka's unlucky with scrub coach and org cutting brunson instead of fuking hardaway.
the award is literally called Most Valuable PLAYER, how is that a team award?
If people would like to play with the semantics, sure MVP is PLAYER and not TEAM. The reality however in which the NBA operates is that the players impact is directly correlated with team success. While I stated above he is far more than a simple stat padder, as his teams record doesn't reflect his carry, it's hard to give him that award when people with slightly less gaudy numbers have vastly more wins.

MVP has always been an award given to the player that provides the most value FOR HIS TEAM. Luka should get it
Luka is the clear MVP especially now, it’s best player not team?!? 😂

It’s not greatest player award, it’s most valuable player
Shaq is right, the assumption of the others is that if the team is not within the first 4 players then it is the players fault is an oversimplification. What matters us how much better a player a team makes.
Chuck is right. If Minnesota stays 1 seed that means Ant is gonna be putting up performances like he did last night. naturally his stats will rise to rival Jokic and SGAs. However, I don't think the wolves can keep the 1 seed and in that case the mvp is likely going to go to either SGA or Jokic depending on who finishes higher in the standings.
“i do” 🔥
That's great and all but can we at least consider the context here?
"OMG they're 8th in the west!" yeah and they're 3 wins from 4th, also they're 7th currently not 8th.
"OMG he has Kyrie and they aren't winning!" cause Kyrie has been injured constantly this season as has the rest of the team
"Your team has to be at the top for you to get MVP!" no, they gave it to Westbrook cause he had an insane enough season to overcome that, is an efficient 34 9 10 not insane enough?
Bro switch Luka with Tatum, ANT, or Shai... I promise you he'd have his championship
this one of the most stupid ranking criterion ever. Player is dependent of teammate that have scoring of 0/6 in 3pt to win Mvp. For team is ring and for player is mvp and it should be like this.
