    I feel your pain! I was very torn between the 911 and the 987.1 2.7 Boxster. I was one of the people that just wouldn’t consider a Boxster for many years……but then I drove one. I was hooked on the Boxster from the first 2 miles of my test drive. I still deal with the complex of the poor man, hairdresser, wife car when around people who just do not know this car. I can’t imagine it not being a 5 speed manual either. Thanks for the video as I love hearing from fellow Boxster owners and how this roadster makes them feel.

      I always tell people that don’t like the Boxster that they should drive one and then give their take (as usually they haven’t bought one).

    I really like your videos. You seem like a man of character. I had lived in NYC and hadn't owned a car for 20+ years. During the Pandemic we moved to Westchester and I bought a beautiful 2007 Boxster - 27K miles and looked brand new for 18K. The seller just wanted to pick whom he sold it to , not haggle over price and we hit it off. OMG, this car has given me more happiness and joy in my life than all the hookers and coke I used in the 80's combined. The hilly twisting roads here and on Martha's Vineyard were made for this car. I also upgraded the sound system to a touch screen and have a subwoofer under the driver seat & have all my work done at Rennewerke Porsche in Elmsford.
    Regarding your video on "What people say to Boxster owners" ; The first Comment I heard was from a friend on MV - He said "Oh, Midlife Crisis, and "That's a Porsche with panties". Funny, but I can't remember another derogatory comment - EVER. SO many "Nice car" comments - too numerous to count. What I discovered is that the Boxster quickly reveals the observers character - The guy that made that comment has a horrible personality and drives a 15 yo pickup truck - so you do the math. The bottom line is - I , like you, am thinking of upgrading to a 911. I strongly think, though, that if possible, I'll keep the Boxster up on MV and store it in the winter....If you're ever in New York or on Vacation on MV, Say hello....

      Sounds like you have a nice Boxster and I hope you find a good dependable 911 and are able to keep the Boxster for the best of both worlds.
      I’m planning head up north later this year and am hoping to make it to New York, so I’ll let you know if I make it that far.

      I can relate! Late 70s and all of the 80s was a blur and the bestest of times! Driving around topdown in my 2006 boxster S is pure bliss,especially in paradise! Aloha from Hawaii! Looking for a hard top now, but ain't never gonna get rid of the boxster!

    I always get a kick out of people putting down the Tip, they obviously never drove a power glide or TH350.

      I used to say I would never own a Porsche with a Tiptronic and then I drove one and now I own one.

    Had my 986 Boxster from new. Hardly ever drive it. Think I've done about 2000 miles in the last ten years. Have a new 992GTS due to arrive in July so finally thinking of selling my Boxster. It hasn't been used at all in the last two years but not sure I can part with it. Same colour as yours Ocean Blue with Savannah interior.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  Рік тому +2

      The 992 GTS should be very good when it arrives and I can understand contemplating selling the Boxster if you haven’t driven it for a while. Of course if you can keep both of them, it will ensure you won’t miss the 986.
      Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.

    I've had these thoughts as well regarding the Boxster and 911. I do agree with the handling experience of the Boxster, I guess you have to be a better driver to get more out of the 911. Mine is a manual so I don't miss that aspect of it and I didn't want a convertible again really, sunroof is just as good, more useable in the UK I feel.
    I sold my Boxster in September last year, I was a little upset at selling it, but tbh, I always wanted the 911 996 and its not disappointed me so far! Mine does have a different exhaust system that really makes it sound awesome when your putting your right foot down. Overall, I'm not sure I'd find much that is better value for money (especially in the UK) - 997's are a scarier proposition with the bore score and something I don't want to deal with. I looked at Audi R8's - but that would be a short term car and then I'd be back looking at 911's.

      Thanks for sharing your experience and the Boxster and 911, while similar in many ways are different cars. I agree that the 996 is very good and while I recently came close to selling it, but realized how much I would miss it, so I’m just working on some minor improvements.

    I plan to get a Porsche Panamera 2019+ wanted to find out if you have any insight about those and what to look for when shopping. I only have room for one car and need the practicality of a 4door. Plus I’m in the minority I’m sure but I love how it looks.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  Рік тому

      Unfortunately, I don’t have a ton of experience with the Panamera. When I was running my car blog, Porsche did have me out to drive the Panamera lineup on the road and track and they are great to drive. It is amazing how they felt like they shrunk around you on the track and felt in a lot of ways similar to the Boxster that I had at the time.
      For what to look for you may try to find a Panamera forum to get more specific details or contact your local Porsche club to get connected with some enthusiasts with a Panamera to find out the common issues.

    Will a simple remap and ecu tune plus basic intake/exhaust upgrades be enough to make up for the base 2.7 match or even surpass the 3.2 S boxster? Thaaanks 😊

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  10 місяців тому +1

      And ECU tune made for specific intake and exhaust upgrades may get you close. Add in a bit of weight reduction and real world you could probably stay neck and neck.
      The one thing that isn’t the same and would probably be harder to match is the gearing as the 2.7 has a five-speed versus the six-speed of the 3.2 Boxster S. It would certainly be interesting to see how close you would get.

    Imo, what you really needed was a 6 speed, 986 Boxter S 3.2 liter....
    I can almost guarantee you wouldn't be feeling any regret; only mere "curiosity" about the 996 911 which might still be there... slightly 🙂

    • @OurRideLife

      The 3.2-liter 986 is a very good car and has nearly the same performance as the 911.

      @@OurRideLife yep! And if you install a cold air intake, 74 mm throttle body and Plenum, combined with a Fabspeed Maxflo (not the Supercup, ask me how I know) exhaust... lowered on H&R springs with Bilstein performance shocks and slightly widened stance, you're in for a ride... 🙂
      And it will pass CA smog! Hopefully 🤞
      Be well!

    Traded a manuel, convertable 986 Boxster for a Tiptronic 996 base.....🤔
    Yeah bro of course you're having some regrets in the overall "fun-factor" department, but its like - what we're you expecting? "everybody knows that Todd" 😂
    Ultimately though, experience is the best teacher. I hope you learned your lesson 🙂

      Very true. Of course the ability to walk without my knee seizing up from driving the manual daily has been very nice.
      Of course I have thought about adding a manual Boxster while keeping the 911, so my normal drives won’t kill the knees, but when I want to go for a weekend drive I have the option to row my own.
