😅 thank you for all the kind words. It was one of my first fights back in 2011. I'm from a duncan leung applied wing chun school. We do train with application in mind and do regularly spar with other styles and big gloves.
With boxing gloves some of the techniques can work in boxing. Just my opinion a lot of it is not very useful but some forearm blocks and frames can actually level up your boxing ability.
@@kermit1211 Personally i hate Wing Chun but some of the forearm blocks and stuff can be useful. A lot of similar stuff was used in old boxing techniques.
Glad to see Wing chun stepping it up and doing better not just for their system but Traditional martial artits because its showing that unorthodox techniques or rather ones less common can work and if we had more videos we can actually study and improve rather then theorize.
I think it's worth keeping in mind what the reputation muay thai developed for winning against kung fu was mostly forged by professional fighters, people who didn't just train full time, but were selected into the profession from an early age based on aptitude, fighting against mostly amateur kung fu fighters who usually didn't have any sort of ring experience. The muay thai fighters were obviously better trained, but that doesn't mean that if you go to a muay thai gym a few times a week, you'll become a more effective fighter than someone putting the same level of effort into kung fu, and equally applying their skills against opponents, because you're learning a "better style."
@@KilicArslanBahadur yes and thats how i know to tell you muay thai is better and you should just accept it it will make you happier and a better fighter
At 4:41 he does that block we drilled a lot. The shovel kicks was one of my favs to do. Shovel kick followed by a punch then followed by defense. So nostalgic to watch his moves. Great showing in this vid.
Well wingchun is definitely rebounding from some embarassing past loses. Good fight but you forgot to show who won. Fair assumption it was the man in black.
The clinch is the scariest weapon of MT, one could think that WC bridging skill could give an advantage to clinching. I believe one cannot beat MT at their own game without having a stronger clinch than theirs. Sanda may be the perfect answer for that, with reaps, upper body throws, leg catches. If there was a mixed ruleset , long standing clinches, with all throws and strikes(no headbutt), the rules would stress trapping and bridging more.
This is really some great and recognisable WC boxing in the ring. I love how the quick arrow punch usually as a follow up to his kick often catch the opponent offguard.
0:26 that guard was the first thing I was ever tought in wing chun, then only after that we started doing the first section of the first form, I can see why lol
It's pretty clear, the wing chung guy using low kicks push kicks and oblique kicks with and blocking with elbows. Lots of wing chung fundamentals adapted to kick boxing rules.
That that guy would get mullied within minutes in the ring with me, with all that telegraphing going on. Put him in with an established time and like Baukaw or Saenchai and watch all the fun unfold 🤣
Telegraphing your kicks seems to work for him, because he's feinting. The opponent may know that a kick is coming, but he's stopping the kick mid-air to punch him. So, when you see he's about to kick...he's really going to kick? Or he's making you think he's going to kick you so he can punch you through your defenses?
There should have been a barrage of low kicks from the the muay thai guy? He keeps backing up, and letting the guy keep into punch range? And he should work the angles with his foot work..
@@heliopijpe in these entry level Muay Thai tournaments, they don't allow low kicks, at least in all the ones I've participated in. Mostly just above the knee is allowed.
The wing chun is preventing the muay thai guy from getting into kicking range. Applied Wing Chun guys, (which is the style he is using) train to attack while the opponent is getting into range. That is why you see so many push kicks. Range control is a big part of training for Applied Wing Chun.
Wc block kick should be faster, even when reactive against muay kick. Even teep would be a beat slower. And block kick destroy leg as much as leg kick. And wc guy actively doing that and made miay guy hesitating.
Congrats to the WC guy but... I hate to be negative but the other just inst doing a lot of Muay Thai here, from what I can see he's too inexperienced to fight, his technique is very bad.
"Wing chun vs kickboxing" competition, lacking of knees and elbows, lots of unnecessary clinch breaks, 2 amateurs staying with 1,2 and tip kicks. Pardon my iguinorance but i didn't notice any Wing Chun technique either would be happy if someone could clarify for me.
The wing chung guy is using oblique kicks and shin kicks and push kicks, basically all kicks that doesn't go high because wing chung doesn't encourage high kicks. You can see him with wing chung style blocks with elbows and what not. You can alsow tell there's some spot where he wanted to toss the muy thai guy while in a clinch.

@ maybe no palm strikes or finger jabs but I’m sure Wing Chun has more weapons than just those two right?

Duncan Leung lineage, I felt I saw this video before on the past, they tend to do pretty decent in clips and they differ from other orthodox versions
I’m seeing the arrow punches, covering and kicks from the lineage that is their calling cards, pretty good stuff

Interesting lineage.

The wing chun guy drops his guard a lot
Is there a problem? Anyone can drop his guard as long as they aren't close to the opponent.
Looks to me like muay thai guy is like a 4 of 10 and the wing chun guy is like a 6.5 of 10. Wc guy just seems to have a higher level fight iq.
