- In this video I made a Florida biotope aquarium with some fish from my friend Ryan from Wild Fish Tanks who I met at Aquashella. I made a custom live edge shelf from cedar for it which fits it nicely. I was super excited to make this one and I think it came out awesome!
Plants used:
Hemianthus Micranthemoides
Hydrocotyle Verticillata
Bacopa Caroliniana Red
Dionaea muscipula
Juncus effusus 'Spiralis'
Stock:
Lucania goodei (Bluefin Kilifish)
elassoma evergladei (Pygmy Sunfish)
Black Banded Darter
Ghost Shrimp

“It’s got that crazy pattern, figured it’d be good in a Florida tank” 😂😂😂 You nailed it Mike! The tank came out awesome. The gator reveal was perfect haha and the fog really dialed it in!
Nice job with this biotope. LOVE Florida natives. Have been raising evergladii for many years. This is a perfect tank for them.
Thank you Father Fish 👌
So beautiful! I’m planning on setting up a Sonoran Desert river biotope in the Spring. My first rank in decades and my first planted tank.
Tank looks amazing finally something new
Super fun and super imperfect perfection!
Dude - you made an interesting and beautiful biotope. I was getting hooked on the idea, then you added the fog and totally crushed it! Definitely going to explore making a Florida biotope now. Thanks for the inspiration!
Tank looks incredible! Been wanting to do a Florida native tank too, would love to see an update
Love the gilberti I myself breed them have lots of babies
Great job love it 👍
I mix aquasoil, sand and potting soil together and don't have problems with it. One should see my plants.
Thank you for sharing and a very cool tank. God bless you and your family....🙏❤🙏❤🙏😊🙂😀
You make it look so easy compared to many other channels. Thanks
I love this build! The tank turned out amazing!!!
Lovin the low boys!!! Want one so bad! Very cool, keep up the content.
That's a really cool setup nice job. Looks so good 👍
Awesome setup
Just stumbled upon this. Got my subscription for it! I love the tank. The shimmer from the lights is really cool. What lights are those? Also if you ever change your stocking, least killifish are another super small fish to consider that are native to FL.
Thank you! The lights are from Amazon, I got them a while ago I don't know if they are even still available.
Is that shelf leaning from the weight of the tank or just the way you mounted it on the wall?
GREAT VIDEO 😀
Beautiful set up! Careful with the water flow when it comes to Pygmy Sunfish! They would be much happier in a low flow environment.
Yes it took some adjusting!
Yo what lights do you use, these little over the top guys like that? I've been using the Hygger ones that stretch across the top and they look alright, but I think this'd be better for space if I wanted to do smaller shrimp tanks.
How do you keep Venus fly traps alive I tried to grow them once and they died
Where you get that tank
Looks like a UNS 60S and you can get them on amazon
Can you put crabs
you are so cute ,❤💜
6:00 Assuming you aren't just talking about cone-like seedpods, you CANNOT have pine cones in a fish tank. They're toxic. Like, to vertebrates especially.
Sadly the minnows in that biotope are either to big fur a 15g or extinct in the wild.
I’m sorry but I can’t. Firstly not all the plants are native to southern states… the corkscrew, if you do research is actually native to japan. The biggest issue is how you “acclimated” and “cycled” your tank. Even on a speed cycle it can still take a week to properly cycle. Throwing in quick boost chemicals is a good way to show your audience how to kill off your fish. How you just moved the fish and shrimp from bag to tank and tank to tank without floating or dripping is also a good way to shock your animals and kill them. I believe if you’re going to make educational or “how to” videos then you should display the healthiest, safest ways to do so as you have sooooo many inexperienced people watching this as a “how to guide” to properly setup a tank and end up killing their tank.
lastly; the tank itself once completed just looked unnatural and messy. The stands have become repetitive after watching only a few videos… it’d be nice to see some variety.
I’m not impressed in the slightest by the tank, the “I love my own voice” impression you give off and most importantly by the lack of care you seemed to have displayed for your tanks inhabitants.
1.) I stated in the video right before I put it in that corkscrew rush is a variant of a plant native to the southern US. Look up "Juncus effusus" or "Soft Rush". Corkscrew rush just a variant with curly leaves
2.) Fritz turbo start is not a chemical, it's actual living nitrifying bacteria that needs to be refrigerated and is used by public aquariums and professionals in the hobby. (fyi I've never had an ammonia spike since the tank has been set up)
3.) As far as acclimating fish, just because I never mentioned what I did doesn't mean I didn't acclimate them. I never stated this to be a "how to" or educational video. Yes the shrimp I added directly from the bag to the tank which is not good practice so I'll give you that one that, but I also know they came from a place that uses the same tap water as I do and that ghost shrimp are very hardy. They were feeder shirmp that were going to be eaten
As far as my attitude and repetitiveness, you don't have to watch my videos if you don't like them
