I live in Tampa. Can I go on one of these adventures with you? I’m wanting to make a Walstad with Florida native only plants and fish. But it’s tricky doing something like this alone with the potential of a venomous snake or surprising a gator (FL native here. Not “afraid” of them, but just not smart for me to get in those types waters with high vegetation ALONE and isolated 👍 I’m too accident prone to test my luck, and my friends aren’t into getting dirty in nature exploration like I am) Anyway, I wouldn’t hold y’all back. I just love to learn and am a biology nerd and plant nerd since birth. And a tomboy.
I think the cichlid is an invasive species from South America called an Acara. I could be mistaken though. The aquarium variants can be very colorful Update: i saw you mentioned the same at the end of the video 👍🏾 Also i heard there is a website database with waterways in Florida where you can find aquarium fish. It might be interesting if you have time to check it out
@mdorneich I honestly don't know if I have access to some US websites to google them. Some US websites don't comply to European privacy laws so they do not get access to the European market
I went to south Florida channel ( broward area ) and got some gambusia what I still having , the most colorless and piece …. Fish I ever had , they don’t care size or type they go nipping and torturing around ( sorry about my English )
Thank you so much! I really enjoyed this today. The Swamp Darter...OMG so cute!! Seeing the Blue Fin Killies made me want to keep them again. 🤗 Not sure why I stopped. Thanks again!
There’s a reason for the saying “nature red of tooth and claw.” Add in what humans do and it’s very rough to be a wild critter. Love the the swamp fish…that darter is a cutie pie.
Perfectly timed video! Ive been researching Elassoma evergladei to add them to my tannin stained tank that has seiryu stone in it. Couldn't find much info about them in tannin stained water so I'm glad you made this video. Looks like they may be a perfect fish for my tank.
Gotta say not having the best day the way you put together your videos are actually incredible though thank you for having pictures right away brightens my day a little
Thanks my friend! Sorry your day isn't going so well. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. If all else fails, go grab a piece of nature to enjoy. I know my editing isn't professional at all- but I want it to feel DYI and just show how the actual day turned out and share that with Y'all.. Cheers!
Well I just got confirmation that it was a least/common Darter I caught on my last collection and of course I put him back and now I'm regretting it...they are highly uncommon here...thanks for sharing brother✌️
Right on! I wish I was closer to the south to go collect more... but as soon as I get some money or a funded talk down in the south, I'll be sure to take more time and collect all new species. So far I have about 6 more videos worth of footage still
Thanks for the input (I'd love to do a lot more collecting all over the USA and world... I just need to find excuses to travel haha. ) glad you enjoyed this
@@Fishtory you're welcome, I'm in Georgia near Savannah and I would love to find a place to collect Savannah Darters and Christmas Darters. I need to find some fish friends near me to go with LoL
@@Fishtory thank you. I live on the West Coast in Warm Mineral Springs and I am trying to find some natural aquatic plants that grow wild. Looks like there were tons where you were :) would love some bluefin killies as well. All I have in my back yard seems to be rainwater and sheepshead killies :)
@Itsjustdianaa1101 so that means its not freshwater... the sheepshead only live in brackish and salt water down there. I actually just look for big ponds at the entry to housing developments, retention ponds and sometimes golf course water hazards Even. Google earth is great for scouting out bodies of water!
If the water is in fact hard, asa you say, it would be from the calcium carbonate in the lower bed rock. If this is the case, then the water may be closer to pH 6-7 from the dissolved limestone.
there first two fish are black acara they are in the cichlid family
Unfortunately FLA has a climate that is great for introduced invasive species that were introduced by careless aquarists
I love this type of content. I love to see collecting of fish videos. Thanks!

Thanks for writing! Yes gambusia are basically meaner, and less colorful guppies lol
Fun stuff!
9:51 my BN pleco disagrees bc I didn't give her a blackworm pellet today. Oh the suffering she goes through at my hands
Lol
My favourite kind of video, the variety of fish species and plant life is amazing!

Yeah I really want to keep them again also. They're beautiful little fish! Thanks for your input and comments
Aw geez, I could have asked my sunfish question in this video instead, and that way it wouldn’t have been off-topic! ROFL
😵💫🤪
S'all good haha
Where exactly in Florida is this?
Near otter otter freek jct. West of Ocala

They're a really great choice due to their complex behaviors and beautiful markings
I bet that water was coca-cola colored
Even darker in some cases... less than 2 inches of visibility from tannins
awesome video✌✌
Thank you so much 😀
Very cool video!
Im from Norway so my head immediately gets the thought of Alligator/Crocodile. Do you have that in those waters?
Yes, while filming we ran into 4 or 5 that day :)

Yes and black worms, daphnia and ostrocods. :)

Pretty sure they was a black acara
I would think a good place to find a good variety of tropical fish would be near tropical fish farms that have flooded!
Oh I know for a fact hahah
Red eyed fish is indeed a Warmouth.
Where in central florida were you im very interested in looking at what we have here but haven’t started yet..
I live in Seattle but I was right in the pine island area
All so beautiful! I envy you out there in nature! Happy fishing Alex!! ❤🇨🇦
What is the water temperature these fish are living in? Just so enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing! ❤🇨🇦

Nice catch! (Dopamine is the other arm...they're stick and pokes i did about 6 years ago)
The perfect excuse for a Florida trip and a blackwater tank.
Obviously You know me too well
Unbelievable.
:)
T'agradaria perdre't a l'oceà🌊 amb mi?
Yes!
Florida is a great place to collect. You never know what you may find.

Wish I can find something in Jax😂
