  • Welcome to a Learning how to Grow food on an Allotment Plot in the UK video. My name is Graeme and I started Allotment Gardening in Jan 2022 as a complete beginner on my first ever allotment plot, in the County of Warwickshire in the UK (That’s Zone 7). These are my allotment diaries.
Knowing nothing about planning, building and maintaining a successful allotment plot, these vlogs follow my journey as I have fun, learn how to grow food and share all the successes and failures (and there’s many) along the way.
    What's my mission? (updated 2023)
In truth, I started this channel for friends and family to have a laugh at what I was doing as I enjoy making videos in my spare time, this channel has grown way beyond my humble expectations over time, which is something I am very proud of, I continue to simply have fun growing food, making creative content, and if inspire anyone to have a go at growing food, the results can be so rewarding. It’s a wonderful journey like no other!
Why would you want to subscribe to Where Graeme Grows? (It is free by the way)
Believe me, if I can grow anything that resembles edible food then anyone can do it. I’m generally armed with enthusiasm rather than gardening knowledge, but overtime it’s impossible not to learn.
    What to do next….

Some of those seedlings remind of basil plants. Some.... not all. Give them a bit of growth time, rub between your fingers, and smell. And though I'm in California and have a backyard, I truly understand the peace I enjoy amongst the plants when stressed. My friends and family have often asked if they can come and sit in the garden to decompress and relax when they're stressed, grieving, and/or anxious. Gardens and allotments are more than a place to grow plants. They are a healing environment.

Nice video. You are doing just fine. Not sure what the seedlings/weeds are but I have them too and I just hoed them off. Distraction until the anxiety passed is the best remedy for me. 😊

That’s it isn’t it! Even just pottering around the plot works. Such a lovely thing to have a small piece of land to nurture and make your own. It doesn’t even have to successively producing does it! That’s just a bonus

I don’t have anxiety 🤔 I don’t think I do anyway but I can relate to the joy and uplifting feelings one gets from gardening. I hope you have or will talk to someone about this as it’s nothing to sneeze at. Hope you had a fantastic holiday with Sarah. The plots looking great you’ve done a great job. Happy Easter 🐣, Ali 🇨🇦

The fall planted garlic will split and form a cluster of cloves. The spring planted garlic will be smaller and not have the cloves….but is still tasty.
Whenever anything is bothering me I escape to the garden….it’s an all natural happiness drug.

Alls looking magic... I'm so happy I finally got my plot. I'm a nurse in a very busy and fast ward and although I don't have anxiety I think we all at times feel overwhelmed with life in general. My plot is my little sanctuary where I can just unwind, chill and enjoy. Keep doing what your doing, right, wrong or indifferent it doesn't matter. X

Hi Greame, your plots looking great don't worry about the weeds just hoe them off on a dry day. My greenhouse is the only one with anything in and it's pretty full but I'm not worried I just keep sowing more every month, I've got backups for my backups 😃😃

The pots that your cucumbers are in may be too small ..just because of the watering side of things,, if your finding there drying out too quick chop the bottoms off the pots then place the pots in compost bags this is also good for tomatoes alot of people use this method ,I hope that helps have a fab week.

What a great idea thank you. I’ll keep an eye on the watering and see how they go. They are actually bigger pots than I used last year but it’s a lot warmer in the greenhouse

I have had anxiety for 10years BUT...
.the minute I lock those allotment Gates behind me it's like ive pressed pause on the anxiety 😊
My allotment is my happy place,
Deep down you know the course of your anxiety, excepting it's real, and then dealing with it is the hardest part . Every day is a school day take each day as it comes.
    Your amazing 😊😊😊😊😊😊🎉

I love that idea of pressing pause at the gates, 😊 I go through ups and downs for sure, it never seems so extreme when I’m gardening and I feel more grounded. Right now I think I’m struggling with mid life crisis episodes and job uncertainty. Many emotions passing through. I’m 80% all good though. 😊

Just subscribed:) I’m curious…what exactly is an allotment plot? Is it similar to a community garden? Do you buy it, rent it, or is it free? Can you plant anything you want or are some things restricted? Do all plots have a greenhouse? Sorry about all the questions, but I’ve never heard of allotment plots before!

    • @Outdoorgraeme
      @Outdoorgraeme  Рік тому

Hey thanks for subscribing! Where are you located?
Allotment plots are basically a piece of land you rent to grow fruit and vegetables on. Generally 12 month rental agreements. You cannot buy it and it is not free. You can pretty much plant what you like as long as it’s legal 😉 I think there is some restrictions on certain sites about how many flowers you can grow (but I’m not 100% on that one)
Green houses, polly tunnels, raised beds are put up by the owner at the time. Or left from the previous owner. It really can be pot luck what state the plot is in when you get one. They are quite sort after here in the uk and there is generally a waiting list to get one! Hope that helps 😁
