- Spooky, strange unusual town on a remote side road not far past Area 51 way out in the Nevada Desert. Almost ghost town status! Kinda like a spooky Halloween...except all year round! Super interesting mind you. One of the oddest semi-abandoned places we've yet come across in our desert explorations. Kinda like Fallout New Vegas or even Nuketown. A scene straight out of GTA. We sometimes take this desolate road on our way driving from Las Vegas to Reno Nevada. Abandoned cars & trucks, creepy old buildings, even an active Lithium plant...yet we've never seen a car or a person the 3 times we've taken this route. This time, we even saw some rare Wild Burros....cool! Overall though...one of the spookiest places we've seen...and we've seen some strange stuff in our years of driving through the vast Desert Southwest! This place..is definitely worth a second look! Looks like Nuketown USA! Just one of the reasons we LOVE Nevada! ~Kenneth King Bear

The town is Silverpeak...... in Esmeralda County. ~Kenneth
The people are there, many vehicles had air in all four tires. I think the type of individual that would occupy a dwelling in such a remote area probably isn't much of a socialite. I wouldn't stop and dig to deep either. Brings to mind the classic line "he sure does got a purdy mouth dony".

some of those cars on "bathtub street" looked new, as if the were just parked there a few hours, no crime or rusty, shiny even....
I wouldn't go through that place unarmed. I may go when I get my car back from the body shop.

I know! It's way spookier when you're there live and in person too. So much more stuff than I was able to capture on this quick trip through.......old cars & trucks...machinery...bathtubs....you name it! Such a strange yet interesting place. That single lane road we took heading in...that's really quite the road! ~Kenneth
Hahaha...hi Josh. I put "semi abandoned" in the title...because they say the Lithium plant (that lake bed looking area we passed) is actually operational. And...they also claim that the town has 107 residents. They must just do a great job of hiding! Hahaha...you know when you'd see 'em of course...the second you tried to touch some 50 year old washing machine at the side of the road. "Hey...that's MY washing machine". Hi messos! This route is a LONG way from anywhere.....and we had hundreds of mile s to go to our evening destination. I was very fortunate to get my wife to even go along with my crazy "bypass" route...because the road looked so spooky. Narrow...one lane...even though it's two way traffic (although in over an hour of driving ...we never saw another car on the road..no people). So..I just couldn't take the time. And ya know what...haha...I was kinda spooked myself! Have a great Sunday! ~Kenneth
Ya Sonic......I spotted a few newer-ish vehicles back in there. I mean...I'm sure there must be people living in some of those houses.... but I'm still blown away we traveled all that way in on the funky one lane road....through the town...then all the way out the other side, and never saw another car on the road or another person. Over an hour of driving. Saw nobody.....nothin'! ~Kenneth
I know!! You're right...and you wouldn't believe how many more cars and trucks there are! Because we were on a strict schedule and had to be in Reno at a certain time....I was lucky to even take this video. There were other back streets which also had dozens and dozens of old or broken down vehicles! I just wasn't able to take the time to explore. Next time.....we'll really have a good look around! That's what helps make it extra weird...the fact it's so many miles/kilometres off of the main Hwy. In the vast vast desert....Nevada..California.....Colorado.....Utah..... you'll see lots of oddball quirky towns. Most of them along main or at least secondary highways. When you get to THIS place though...that's when you think...."man...we are WAY off the beaten path here". Your mind spooks you. Yes...I'll make some more vids as I get a chance to go through my tons of footage. Take care! ~K
Hey...good detective work! The Nevada Star Party...was started by people in nearby Tonopah! They have an astronomical society...and they love star gazing! So..they have started doing "star parties". People interested in astronomy gather at specified locations..usually way out in the desert where there are no distracting lights...and they get a clear view of the night sky! The 2nd annual star party you mentioned..was indeed held at Alkali!! That's neat! Each year it's a different place. ~Kenneth
Ya GR....that is one interesting trip...that Vegas to Reno trip! I'll tell ya though...this is different. This isn't along convenient US95....this is WAY out there. And GR....what gets you spooked....the driving...and driving.....and you don't pass another car. You see no other moving vehicles. Then..you get to the town...and no markers...nothing. No people. Silence. Even the drive out of the town....back out to the main Hwy...you pass not one other vehicle. It's quite the trip! ~Kenneth
Ya...a couple of newer looking trucks there...Chev and Dodge. This place...it's miles from anywhere. I was lucky to convince my wife to even take this route....hahaha....we were on a strict time frame to get to Reno from Las Vegas....so I just couldn't take the time to stop and go through the place they way I wanted too. We'll be heading back down to Vegas & the whole Desert Southwest in a month....I'll definitely plan to make time to explore this funky place again! ~Kenneth
Ya...it was great!! Never seen anything like Silverpeak where we're from...so it looks as though you've landed on the moon! That's amazing about the gold mine. Ya...knew the lithium mine was there..still...the 3 times we've been through there now (over 3 different years)...we've yet to see another living breathing human.That adds to the mystery! Hi! No....not even a hint of an open business! Other than the Post Office....which is just a trailer.....and I don't think the Post Office is even staffed. Anything that was a store.....is now empty or full of old clutter. Not been used in years. Apparently...there are about 100 people who live there....but in the 3 times we've taken that route now....3 different years...we've yet to see another person...or moving vehicle. Just broke down or parked vehicles. It's very odd when you're there! ~K
Ya....it seems like that Ram is an actual "runner". Where this place is...is WAY out in the desert...miles off the regular Highway. When we go through there....we're always trying to "get somewhere" (Vegas or Reno) and we just have enough time to "shoot on the fly." Hahahaha....although...we're probably too chicken to get out and look around anyway....hahahaha. When you're there...it's very spooky. I mean..you don't see a moving car or truck...no people. There are no "stores"...no businesses. ~K

Hi! Ya..that's exactly what those things are. They are called "cattle guards". Hahaha...I call 'em "cow things". My wife hates driving over them. She has to plug her ears 'cause the buzzing noise when we drive over bugs her. Hahahaha...I have to yell out "Cow Thing!!" whenever we come across one...so she can plug her ears. Hahaha...."bathtub street". Ya...there were a few newer looking trucks parked in a few spots. They say there's a population of about 100 in the town. Lots of totally abandoned stuff...but there also must be people livin' in a few of those places too. You just never see any of 'em. Some people here have suggested zombies....I may be leanin' that way myself. hahahaha. ~K
I just know there is no running water...or electricity..at Alkali. Anything electric would need a power generator. Basically, just a dark wide open space where people pitched their tents and star gazed! I see these "star parties" are all through North America. Lots of folks interested in Astronomy. Neat! ~Kenneth
Ya...so strange. The fuel truck as you mentioned. Then there's the cement truck. All those parts and pieces. Front ends of vehicles......bathtub.....Pepsi machine......Next time I go through....I'm gonna have a look at some of the back streets. hahaha...if I get out alive...I'll post up the vid. ~Kenneth
You just went through the little town of Silver Peak. Yes it is a lithium mine. They also take out silver and gold. A very large mine is up on that mountain behind it which is called Mineral Ridge. That mine is extracting 5 million dollars in gold per week. The area known as Fish Lake is on the other side and a really nice hot spring is in the middle of it.
Haha...could be! You know...they claim it ISN'T abandoned...but damn...in the 3 times I've been through that way now...never have we seen a live person or another moving car. Well...congrats on your move to Vegas! You're right though...once outside of Las Vegas...Nevada is very sparsely populated. That's what's so cool about it though! So many interesting (and spooky) places. I think as you get settled in...eventually...you'll start exploring. ~Kenneth

Ya....a now defunct Power Station! Jeez...meets or concerts? Maybe...but there is truly nothing there. Just that shed...and the little hot springs behind the shrubs. Otherwise...just barren desert for as far as the eye can see. ~K
Man...it must be ultra spooky at night. That road....would be right pitch black. The town? You would think there would be some kind of light....but you'd have yo go in there and check......hahaha....not somethin' I'm in a hurry to do! ~K
Parts of it are the same...parts are from 2011 and 2013. This is crazy though...if you "fly" over it using Google Earth...you'll see most of those cars in exactly the same spots as this 2009 vid! Take care. ~Kenneth

What a jewel of a place to discover, somewhere in Nevada I have not been. there are 100 towns just like this, Nevada is extremely poor and desolate, the military likes it that way. from this location, as from my old location, you would be able to see incredible things in the sky, day and night.

Yes, Art Bell moved to the Phillipines years ago and sold his compound which Like I said was located in Pahrump, Nevada. Years ago I was staitioned @ George AFB(long since closed) during the early 80's and a friend of mine had a 4x4 pickup truck and we would drive around the Mojave Desert in the middle of nowhere, finding old miners houses and other gems, just awesome! But @ that time I never heard about Area51, if I knew about it I damn sure would have checked that out. Beware the Reptoids HAHA
