Hello! I am Katie Masters aka @nailthoughts on instagram. I am a nail tech/artist and I JUST came out with my own gel product collaboration with Kokoist gel @KOKOIST channel . In this video I am showing you how to do your nails using my new Tinted Base Gels and one of my most popular new colors! I hope you learn some stuff and here is EVERYTHING I used (I hope I got it all) listed and linked!

i decided to start doing my own nails at the beginning of the year and i DESTROYED them trying to do dip and acrylic. i switched over to gel because of you and the damage is almost all grown out and my nails aren’t ugly anymore 😭 so excited to get my hands on this collection. you’re one of my fav nail people!!

the melody susie drill on amazon is bomb! it goes up to 30,000 rpm (i honestly only ever use up to 15,000 but at least u know its powerful) and ive been using it for almost a year with no problems! ive lowkey dropped it a few times and it survived. i use it on every. single. nail client. i do recommend investing in some decent bits tho it makes a huge difference

Hi Katie! So randomly stumbled upon you and your nail amazingness when googling how to choose nail bits for at home gel mani use and went down the rabbit whole between your IG and videos. Not a pro by any means but have just always loved all things nails and beauty so adore all your insanely creative designs and ideas. You literally jump off the videos and pages in your passion and love for what you do and your business among just have such amazing energy and good vibes. 2 questions? Do you need a top coat if you decide to wear just the base color? Your polishes can be worn without a base coat?

I'm pretty sure you still need a primer!
You truly shouldn’t need one if proper prep and cleansing is done! A lot of Japanese base gels are made to not need any bonder. But if you get a little nervous, feel free to ;) not a big deal! But yes it’s lasted about 5 weeks for me before with proper prep and no bonder. Hope that helps!

I have peach base, desert sand, and favorite red coming today! Bringing peach and desert to salon tomorrow, would you have them do 2 layers of base?
the way I build it one nail at a time would be perfect! but for people who don't have that experience yet, two layers of base would be perfect! you just wanna make sure you build up that strength a bit. this is a semi hard gel base too
Its the base coat necessary or would it still work if I just put the gel color on without it??
What is the ingredients list?
There’s a moment during prep where you hold the file perpendicular to the free edge. What angle is that (90° or 45°) and why do you do that step?
Ooo is it where when my hand is facing me? I think i know what you’re talking about, I’m shaping my nails and when i shape i always check the way it looks from both angles. And I’ll file my nail to shape while i hold it out like that just to make sure it looks good from all angles. Pretty sure that’s what you saw! Hope that helps

Ive bought 5 of your polishes- and I ADORE THEM. But I'm getting so tired of all the filing and buffing when Im changing polishes. Is there an affordable e-file you would recommend particularly for a DIY-er? Thank you for this tutorial by the way!

yes! good question! I have not tried it enough yet, butttt most Japanese gels I find are pretty compatible with each other! like I always mix Kokoist base/colors with presto base/colors all the time. I've even used luminary base with my kokoist gels before as well! hope that helps
@@nailthoughts ahh yes. I asked because I brought presto base and top a couple of weeks ago and now I want your gels so I didn’t want to buy more base and gel since I do my own nails you know

Melodie Suzie Scamander is a good inexpensive one for starters and pros. Had mine for a year now and it works great.
