Mini is a brand that is forged on tradition and the history of the Mini Cooper is second to none. Under the hood is a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 connected to a 6-speed gearbox. Why do people complain about manual seats? How often are they adjusted? Two times during ownership. Nobody complains about manual doors...
Thanks for your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
You are right
@@cincinminus8351 Thanks for the reply!
Tore Hansen - it drives me frickin nuts when someone else drives my Cooper and I have to get back in and get it juuuust right again.
Mini gave me a couple loaners last year. Both new clubman's. Both had power seats, with memory, even. (Not a standard option) Made me a new man! It's all I dream about at night now after I close my eyes is memory power seats. Sigh. Changed my life. I want a Clubman now! 😈
I saw a 2 door mini with power seats. Couldn't believe it. Got the impression they made it an option in 2019 in the 2 doors. Was scratching my head.
But sorry, I agree with reviewer, at $40k... It should have some type of power seat. My wife's '07 Lexus has memory power seats- standard! 2007?! ...yeh.
It's also called "weight savings"
“This is my limited edition Lamborghini Adventador SV, one of only 500.”
“Oh yeah this is my limited edition Mini Cooper, one of only 150: get rekt boi”
sladdy patty exactly
Fun Fact...The Morris Minor was the first British auto to sell a million units. When I see a Mini I think of the movie The Italian Job that used them in a chase. Another great review! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇬🇧
You are so very right! I love those facts!
Only guy who talks a lot and don't get annoyed by, your enthusiasm...you just sold me one lol
That really means a lot! I just love to share my passion for cars!
Fun fact №2 : The original speedometer was centrally mounted and covered a hole in the front bulkhead. The fixed rear seats hid a reciprocal hole in the rear bulkhead. The reason ? During manufacture the bare shell was mounted on a rotating spit for painting by hand.
That is a really cool fun fact! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the review, the history lesson was phenomenal! I remember wanting these little cars when they were released in the US in the early 2000s.
I am so glad that you liked this one Henry!
Love the history bit in the beginning of your vids!
Great review, as always.
This mini is awesome.
Thanks Peter for letting me share this with you and the story behind it!
Love the center infotainment screen. Don't think I've ever seen one in the shape of a circle before.
That is so very true! I am glad that I could share this one with you!
I recently bought my first 2013 Hatchback Mini... I TRULY LOVE IT!!
I hope I can upgrade to something like this in a near future! Great car, great video! Thank you for posting!
Thanks for letting me share it with Cesar!
Thank you Joe, what a precious gem!! Btw, given they only manufactured a 150, it would have been nice if they had issued a production number on the door seal next to the name. Hate the pop up info display, wish they could have projected onto the windshield instead.
That is a very good point Greg!
Thumbs up for mentioning NC and the dragon. We have a lot of fun down here on those roads. This is a great car for it, tons of hp doesn't matter at places like that!
Air intakes increase drag so a balance of cooling and drag has to be considered, that is why some intakes are blanked off as well as aesthetics.
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Make hood scoops functional again
AGREED!
That would make a great red hat! Probably trigger some snowflakes whose weak minds thought they read something else. 😜
It would make no sense.. on the r53 it has so many heat soaking issues because the intercooler is sitting on top of an oven. FMIC is the way to go. If I could go fmic on my r53 I would but there are too many issues with boost loss.
R53 Ftw!
@@cracked302 R53 is supercharged. 2 gens and 3gens are turbo charge and have a FMIC. 2gen the intake is in the back of the motor. So you are going to get heat soak sucking in the hot engine air. 3gen the intake is up front and the exhaust is behind the motor. The intake gets its air form in front of the radiator.
Didn’t know you reviewed this one! I’m actually getting one on Saturday! I’m so excited! The previous owner did some modifications to it and it really looks great!
Did you ever get to pick it up?
i drive a manual 2014 pepper white mini cooper with black racing stripes. i love her sooo much. so much fun to drive!! definitely a huge upgrade from my 2003 VW jetta. maybe one day i’ll make enough money to own a beauty like this JVW 😍 but for now i love my white mini :)
Thank you Maggie for sharing your input from your ownership! I am so glad you are enjoying yours!
Got my Clubman S at the same dealer, Sara was great there and the service is awesome. To me it's a awesome pocket rocket to drive!
Thanks Angelo! How has she been reliability wise?
Fantastic car, I drive a blue JCW with a red roof and red mirrors, love my MINI.👌 Thank you very much for the review👌👌👌
Thank you for letting me share it with you!
I can tell you hands down via owning a 2019 JCW coupe that it's a mean lean speeding machine! Handles on curves like it's on rails. Rides smooth too. Add a Dinan Elite, it will boost you close to 300hp and it will not void your warranty, not that you even need 300HP. And trust me I drive super fast cars like 930 slope Porsche 1000HP and 911S and this is in the top 10 of my car likes. I own one, I drive one and I love it! Go JCW! Great Video too! Gotta test drive one before you start knocking it. I paid $47,000 plus, but it's loaded. I wish youtube would let you add photos!
@Pker Pker I went with the automatic. My wife doesn't know how to drive a manual and plus I love using the paddle shifters. My mistake too. Paid $47,000 plus...
Another awesome review. Love the mini, for me any day over a GTI. Agreed on your zonks, I like the unique interior, you know it’s a mini, manual a plus, I’ll change that shift knob, again again on the seats...manual seats for that price, WTH. Still I like the looks, awesome fun car. Great stuff Joe 👍👌
I totally agree with your points! It was a blast to drive!
I just traded my mk7.5 gti in for a 2019 Cooper S with JCW tuning kit. Manual seats save weight soo not that bad
Why dont they make the manual transmission with straight cut gears like the classic mini?. Could you find out and let me know. It would perform better with a straight cut gear manual transmission.
That would be awesome if they did!
The LED trim around center console is your RPM gauge, that's what those notches around the outside of the LED circle is for.. you should of hit the gas and watched the LEDs light up and wrap around that circle - its probably the coolest and most unique feature of the car TBH.
Thanks for sharing that extra info!
There was a knight edition for sale a few months ago at my local Mini dealer.....If only it wasn't stickered at around 40k. Looks super sexy though, this edition has some awesome visual changes.
I totally agree with you!
There is a Tach and Shift lights in the HUD, you have to activate them. FYI
Thanks for that heads up! PUN INTENDED! lol
24:00 aprox. You can actually get a digital tach right in your line of site in the Heads Up Display (HUD)
Go into settings under hud and should see a selection option.
It actually really enhances the experience to have the visual. So, I see what you mean. The visual I'm describing is only available with JCW's. Unless you know a hack
👍🏽💯 😏🚗💨
Thanks for that great info! I appreciate you watching!
in sportmode u have a jcw rev counter in the hud.
Thanks for that heads up!
Maybe you have to select in Hud program, the dealership should know. its standard with jcw, programable with cooper s.
Thanks for the heads up!
Jesus that's a gorgeous Mini. The JCW Mini has always been a guilty pleasure I could never afford to own lol
I totally agree with you!
i have the 2010 camden and would love to know if there is a way to get a shift display... i doubt it
Not that I am aware of.
Great review like always Joe. I like the MIni very much and if I would buy one - it would be a JCW or at least a Cooper S!
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
How on earth can you judge the amount of room in the back seats with the seat forward.
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Luv luv this mini they’ve all got personality😉 I’ve got a 1974 clubman, British racing green with white top, adore it.. he’s been fully restored and goes like a dream, sticks those corners like glue!!.. planning on a new one in the near future, no I’m not selling my clubman, would just luv a new mini.. don’t know how many have been sent to Australia, hubbys a diesel mechanic, he shall investigate.. luv luv this, thanks for the review👌
JCW’s do come with 18 inch wheels and the wheel arches are extended as the wheels are not legally permitted to come out further than the arch.....
if you buy a Mini Cooper John Cooper Works and it doesn't come with the active exhaust does that mean it's not going to be loud or does it mean it's going to be loud all the time and you can't make it quiet?
It's not going to be very loud.
Joe - I definitely want to get a hatchback for my next car. I’ve never driven any kind of Mini. I’m wondering how does the ride compare to say a GTI? The VW is right now at the top of my list, is the JCW comparable? Awesome video as always.
It is a fun very connected feeling when you are driving this JCW. You will get way more for your money with the VW though. The JCW has so much personality though.
he gets in back seat doesn't pull the front seat back and the man says he has room like sure thing buddy
Thanks for your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Man got no chill
The front seats are concaved and leg room is plenty. I’m six foot also
Love the new design but mini should have stuck with the supercharger it would have gave the hood scoop a purpose like in the first gen bmw minis
AGREED!
Kinda disappointing it doesn't have the SC.
My supercharger cracked on my first Mini S.
They should seriously make that hood scoop functional. The entire engine bay is crammed tightly together and with turbos heating up they really need to evacuate that generated heat. This would also assist the AC components among other benefits.
Regarding the backfire. Does it damage the car to pass gas?
Not at all
This is one car I wish I test drove. I love the Mini Cooper!
It is a blast to drive!
The Mini (& Morris 1100 & a few others) introduced the world to the first modern front wheel drive lateral engine with non cart wheel suspension. The guy whose inspiration for this was Alex Ignosis & his name should be up there with Henry Ford as giants of the Auto industry. Here in Australia, before I met her, my wife's first car was a Mini & wow, did she clock up miles in city and country. Actually, the affordable price had the Mini & hotter Mini Cooper S actually selling & racing in the very late fifties & early sixties. A mate of mine was doing 'A' Grade Mechanics Course with local BMC (Brit Motor Corp)Dealer & actually showed me what I thought impossible. Driving down the widish Bridge St Benalla, (part of the then Highway 31 from Melbourne to Sydney), at a constant 30 mph performed a 180 with no smoke or stunts, just from the north side kerb to south as if it was a regular occurrence with no lean or tyer squeal! [I though Newtonian physics had gone on holiday]. All Ignosis cars were regular 'Tardis-s'[TV'sDrWho] seemingly bigger inside than out!!!.....Fast forward to today. My wife has a lady colleague who has a Mini 'w the lot'. I think it's a 'Beamer'(BMW) now, but it too is more than a shopping trolley, (although I think that's its/her main task), it's a regular little goer!!!! ps. Really like your reviews. :-)
Thanks for that awesome history and facts!
Interesting how not much has changed interior/exterior-wise from the first-gen BMW Mini’s. My R53 JCW is still a ton of fun on and off the track!
So agreed I own one too
That is a very good point!
@@sebco1698 Very cool!
My wife drives a 2015 Mini John Cooper package. She loves it.
Very cool!
This guy definitely use to work on that channel that sold toasters and then the next minute they are selling a watch then a picture of Elvis too lonely old people at 2am! " and there is only 10 left! Get your order in now, phone ######### and quote Cooper, it's a great present for your grandchildren!"..... 🤣 Also " im going to ZONK that" 😂
Huh?
I have a JCW 2018 model. Looks exactly like this without the decals. Wouldn't be worth the extra money in all honestly. Normal JCW, have the black exterior pack, upgraded JCW seats and 18" alloy upgrade. Be cheaper to have a normal JCW but have the exact same without the decal and the "name"
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Wish it had a big power boost and id consider one, I wonder if hardware wise the B48 is the same as the one in the X2 M35i 🤔if so 300hp is a flash away lol, be so fun with 300hp like the Megane RS an Type R with alot less weight.
AGREED!
A remap with take it to 300 no problem
The B48 MIni Engine (Both MCS and JCW), BMW 320, 420 and 720 all have the same engine. They are just tuned differently at the factory. You remap the engine and it is easy to get above 300hp.
In the Philadelphia, pa. Area this Minis r famous. There good in Gas. I like them.
I am so glad to share this one with you!
A nice car in a place like that?
"Might as well throw yer wallet in the harbor." 😜
beautiful car ! great review !
Thanks Andy I am so glad that you liked it!
Looks sweet 🙌 looks similar to my all black R56 Sport Chili Cooper
Nice pocket rocket
AGREED!
Beautiful iconic car buddy! Love it! 🍻👍😍
I am glad that you liked this one and that I could share it with you!
Hey Joe and Lori, is it possible for you to review the Mini Cooper JCW Automatic 2022/2023?? Thank you in advance!
We will track one down for you Leo!
One of the best sporty hatch out there!
Sounds nothing like my GTI Clubsport on startup. The new Clubman exhaust should sound better. Hopefully coming for the upcoming Cooper S.
One little question, are the rear windows fixed or will they roll down?
They are fixed.
Joe, size matters. I'll wait for the 2020 JCW King's Edition. 😍 Great review! 👍🏻 Save the Wave.
I heard it's powered by a C7 V8! ;-)
Boy, you've been keeping your ear to the ground, haven't you? Now, can you hear the sound of which hp C7 V8 it will be? The differences are barely distinguishable, you might want to use a stethoscope. lol I can loan you mine, I have my PHD. (Pronounced Hearing Degree.) 😍
Save the Wave.
You would be surprised what I can pick up on!
I hear that!
I would love to watch a review of the Mini Cooper Clubman JCW from you, to me that's THE best Mini EVER. Wish I have one home :(
I will try to get my hands on one!
@@RaitisRides PLEASE DO, the Clubman is the coolest looking Mini to me, some pople call it the funeral car but i dont care, its big, practical and of course its a mini.
Wawww beautiful review, u covered everything
Thanks for saying that and letting me share it with you!
Thanks to your review , i just received my JCW 2020 and I'm loving it
Great review!
Thanks Afonso for letting me share it with you!
Do they a 4 door with these specs? If not, that’s my zonk! Great review!
In Australia we get Clubman knight edition $56000aud
Yes except the Knights Edition.
Thanks for sharing that Ben.
My favorite JCW. Great presentation .......and wow sound quality from the entertainment system to blow your mind and ears!
"Knights Edition" LOL. It's nothing more than a decal on the JCW edition that they charger suckers an extra $1,000+ for.
Akeda Laevateinn surely Night edition, as in black of night
Evunturi air intake replaces the fake scoop with a functional carbon one, 8hp extra, and that noise!! 3nd mod to do to this car, 1st is tyres, get rid of the run flats, they don't get ant traction, 2nd would be the jcw pro exhaust (adds more hp) .. then everything else, wheels etc
Thanks for that great input!
"This is a british car, it isn't a hood its a bonnet" Great, then can we tell British journalists to stop calling it a bonnet on American cars?
I like how you think!
It’s actually not a British car anymore now it’s made by bmw
@@SVB02 we know. But it's still built in oxford. So.....
First world problem.
British people don't buy American cars (unless it's a jeep because you can't afford a land rover).
That's a gorgeous looking mini copper.......
So in Europe we got a “Knightsbridge” edition. Guess it’s different in the US, lol. Straightforward “Knight” and exclusive decals.. hmm.. why don’t we get this :(
It's interesting what car companies bring to different markets.
hi there please can you compare chevrolet camaro with ford Mustang GT just to see which one is better???
I will get that together for you!
thanks man :)
I actually bought that car and I’ve done a lot to. It looks awesome now.👍
I own an 09 JCW R56 and trust me, 17s are big enough.
R53 here, same conclusion. Rides like it's on rails. That automatic traction control needs to be turned off though.
Thank you for sharing some input from your experience!
Peugeot and Citroen use 18s on their small hot hatches, and they're powered by the R56's engine with similar power output (DS3 Racing, DS3 Performance, 208 GTi by Peugeot Sport) They look too big for the cars but they're amazing nonetheless.
Will it pull a caravan?
BEST REVIEW!!
Featherlight?? 1400 kgs is still a lot for such a little car. Its the same weight as my golf gti clubsport.
They have never sold the Clubsport in the States.
What a beautiful car, I have R56 cooper S but I would love to have this jcw
I totally agree with you Max!
@@RaitisRides it will surely turn heads
Still, nothing beats the R53 supercharged mini! Turbos are just cheaper to put in!
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
With only 150 in the U.S., dealers are gonna majorly mark it up the wazoo 😳
This one actually has rebates.
Red trim on the grill I think GTI. 😎
That is a very good point! Funny how that is the same.
Hey nice video, which cooper is? R56?
Model
Amazing looking car for sure but $41,000 for this? Holy Cow! For that price, you are in some great sports car alternatives with upper class versions including the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Honda Civic Type R, and Veloster N. MINI's seem to be about $5,000 more than what they should be. Great car though!!
Very good points Jason!
It's why I bought a new Golf R instead of a brand new Mini JCW to replace my 2012 Mini Cooper base.
You guys are missing the point! I've owned a 930 slope Porsche 1000HP and also a 911s very fast cars. I also own a Custom Mini JCW 2019 coupe. Trust me when I tell you that this little machine is no J.O.K.E! I own one and love it. Remember each is own. My business paartner drives. a Lambo. I hate it, rides rough and just not for me, but remember everyone is different. It's what makes the world go round! ;) peace out everyone! But test drive one first before you knock it! Oh and my JCW was custom and cost me $54,000 plus.
@@sailinginvictus1756 Which of your cars do you drive the most and what kind of power is your custom Mini putting down? My primary reason for replacing my Mini was the fact that it was a horrendous daily driver, roadtrips sucked in that thing as it did not have the dampers.
A friend on mine owns ne wish cost 60k in euro's. But let me tell you this, It's amazing. And it's super fast.
looks and sounds good
I really like it!
looks like an Abarth to me. As your grandmother used to say, not my cup of tea! Personally, I zonk the whole damn car! Great job though, Joe. keep em' comin'.
I totally get that it is not for everyone Paul!
The coolest Mini!
Yes for sure!
I had a Mini and really liked it. Very different, fun to drive and great on gas. BUT...The cars have some inherent design flaws that cause a lot of unnecessary repairs and then the repairs cost about 3 times what other cars cost to repair. If they could get the engineers to redesign a few areas for dependability and lower the price of the car it would be a slam dunk. The only downside is that it will also cause way too much to repair...nature of the beast.
Thank you Jerry for sharing that input from your experience!
I live in Munich, home of BMW, they are even expensive here, it's a prestige thing, you're buying into a brand
Labor intensive because everything is crammed there. They are fun to drive!
@@LizzyC-nf1sv that is a very good point!
Omg I love minis I own a 2003 r53 jcw love that little car
Very cool! How has it been with reliability!
Definitely needs the belt line backed out
Love this
I WANT ONE 😩
I have a ‘15 Cooper S right now
How do you like your Cooper S?
Raiti's Rides it’s a blast! The first year I owned it, I didn’t even know it had rev matching because I always had traction control off 😂

Whussup with car manufacturers not wanting to have foglights on vehicles anymore?? Noticed a lot of em not doing it anymore.
That is a very good point! I wonder if it is a combination of cost-cutting and headlight tech improvement.
From what I've seen, fog lights have become an option rather than standard (even on performance cars).
That is a goo point but many are dropping them all together.
I think if a vehicle has led drl accent lighting manufacturers are considering that a form of foglights bc they are easy to see in rain or fog. And that maybe why they aren’t adding foglights to vehicles.🤷🏻♂️
Most feel like the headlights are bright enough, the only manufacturer that said that outright is Subaru though when they dropped the fog lights on the new STI.
He made no mention of sir Alec Issigonis - who designed the mini - credit where credit is due please
Watching this on my mini-pad
Very cool! Thanks Andy!
There might be a USB port behind a panel in the boot area.
I sure the heck hope so for this price.
Aha, on my 2013 JCW, there's a cig lighter in the boot area. You can convert this to a USB charging port using an adapter.
Pop the bonnet
Pop the Bonnet?
POP THE BONNET!
Indeed!
You are a tall guy like myself how well do you fit in
Love the use of the proper terminology for this review. That hood scoop could be made useful just not sure if many people would want to cut a hole in a 40k car though LOL
Also I may have the wrong date for the 100k LOL
You are awesome!
The taillights have the British flag pattern that's neat.
It's those little touches!
I heard there is only 150 knights edition.
149
It has the old lines but only that, the first few had 3 speed, first on second second on third, third on 4 gear if I remember correctly (position ) I think R was like on first. Correct me if am wrong.🌟🌟👍👍👍🌟🌟 agree on the tach. First time hah! Din't kmow that then my previous statement will not matter.

You can make a Toyota Corolla sound like its the greatest drivers car ever made
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
2845lbs is not exactly feather-Lite for a car of this size Joe. The sticker at $41K is also not lightweight. Yikes that’s a lot of money for such a pint sized car. Being owned by BMW just tells me that the reliability will be suspect as well. 🤔hmmm.
I am going just by what is available on the market today. I totally get your points!
good choice
I really liked driving it!
This or GTI or Golf R?
I need a side by side! I think hands down performance will be the Golf R!
